The way I read it is that Ortega may be given another game or two before Pep decides, but who knows. Seems like I need to transfer him out anyway as there is too much risk to keep him.

Assuming you don't have Fabianski/ playing backup GK then yes consider selling Ederson to make sure you have a starting GK

Mbeumo has struggled against bigger teams this season, getting a single goal from matches against Liverpool, Man City, Spurs and Man United (albeit they weren't good at the time). His next six are against teams expected to finish top 8, plus Forest and Brighton who are exceeding expectations this season. He may just blank against all of them.

Saka seems fixture proof, has easy fixtures anyway, an easy schedule and could pay back a -4 by tomorrow night.

"Howe’s subterfuge was slightly undermined by the striker himself saying he was fit in an interview the previous day."

Made me chuckle! But I'm not willing to believe he's 100%, so minutes could be managed and I'll probably play Rogers ahead of him given the better fixture.

In Palmers 6 away games this season, he's blanked in 4 and returned in 2

2 Returns : 17 points at Wolves & 8 points at West Ham
4 Blanks: Bournemouth, Liverpool, Man United, Leicester

    Hmmm not fantastic....thoughts ?

Salah beats Palmer on all metrics apart from fixture, and good chance of Palmer reduced mins....

Salah seems a more obvious pick to me and Jackson probably better than Palmer, given his higher goal-scoring threat and Palmer being due some minutes off. On Jackson, it seems like an obvious choice for the manager to run him more ragged until he is suspended, and if the suspension doesn't come before in the next game or two, rest him then instead. Would be silly to rest him now, only for him to get a yellow in this game (off the bench) or next, and so and miss and extra match unnecessarily. All this to say that I think Palmer is more likely to have his minutes tailored significantly in this game than Jackson. Though a lot will depend on game state and tactics, so we can only make weak predictions.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years

That said, if Jackson doesn't have a yellow, he could be taken off early to ensure he doesn't get one. Swings and roundabouts. Sorry to make this all about Jackson, which was not your question.

Cheers for the reply. Interesting you favor Jackson...its not as obvious as many think....

            • 10 Years
            1 year, 3 months ago

Yeah I don't mean to say it's obvious. Just feels the path of least resistance for me. Palmer has been up and down, while Salah has been consistent and we all know he can get mega hauls as well. If I think too hard about it, I will start to get FOMO not captaining Palmer, so I'll just stick with Salah and let luck decide. Hmmm but Southampton have been quite suidical playing out from the back and Chelsea have been pressing excellently with Jackson leading the press. Oohhh my, now you've gone and done it!

Chelsea won't have the same fatigue advantage over Southampton as they did over Villa, though. Still an advantage with their massive squad, though.

I meant the captain choice this week isn't as obvious as just Palmer...

He did do a very nice goal last week though, so he's in good form !

          • 10 Years
          1 year, 3 months ago

Yeah I'm not sure it was 😆

Jackson unlikely to be benched, but likely to be taken off early if he doesn't have a yellow (and likely to play the full 90 if he gets a yellow)

Palmer more likely to be benched (but unlikely) and more likely to be taken off early than usual, but it is fairly independent of Jackson. Maybe the priority would be to take Jackson off to avoid suspension (keeping Palmer on a bit longer) or maybe the priority would be to rest Palmer and risk the suspension for Jackson. I don't know
