The dangers of a strong front eight were exposed this week as those who benched or drafted out the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Odion Ighalo were left heartbroken. The great form of Mahrez and his team-mate Jamie Vardy dominated the thoughts of our community writers and hot topic posts this week. We also look at colourful team form, the latest stats from our Members tables and catch up on those who are at the summit of our community leagues, with a little help from Leicester’s stars no doubt.

The Community Articles

Jose’s Magic Omelette has taken a detailed look at the form of Mahrez and Vardy to see if they can be season keepers or not, while the duo also get a mention in Your Mum’s Athletic‘s latest Gameweek predictions based on what the bookies say.

Form continues to be the focus of The Sarjeant’s regular weekly community article. This week his insight has been bolstered by a colourful look at the best and worst attacks and defences over the last six Gameweeks.

Bowstring the Carp’s latest monthly review provides a fascinating insight into the players that helped shape October’s scores. He also looks ahead to this month’s fixture list to pick out some key targets to consider, with Rodellegabomb‘s analysis of a trio of bandwagons ahead of the weekend providing further options.

Meanwhile, congratulations to Bowstring the Carp who wins a £20 Amazon voucher after you voted him community writer of the month for October, fittingly for his monthly review series.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Mahrez and Vardy also took centre stage in our discussion on the merits of doubling up on attackers and midfielders from the same team.

There were certainly plenty of community members who were pleased they had both in their starting XI, according to our Rough with the Smooth round up of your best and worst Gameweek 11 decisions.

But Demi wonders whether investing in the duo is sustainable through tough fixtures. Doolittle is also not getting too carried away and urges caution in considering captaining one of the pair against a resilient Watford side.

Leicester’s opponents were also the focus of Applebonkers, who watched West Brom capitulate against the might of Mahrez last weekend and wondered whether pacey wingers are their Achilles heel.

With the Sergio Aguero cash spent by many on midfield upgrades, plenty of the community find themselves with some tough selection choices ahead. Our discussion on the perils of a great front eight was particularly apt for those who benched a high scoring player last Gameweek. Help is at hand, though, with the All Out Attack chip, according to TorresMagic.

Elsewhere, S Kuqi is in the market for a new defender. Among options to be considered in his discussion on top defensive targets was Liverpool’s forward-thinking full-back, Alberto Moreno.

Arsenal’s problems in defence, with Hector Bellerin ruled out and Laurent Koscielny a doubt, mean their assets may be best avoided going into the North London Derby this weekend. Limpar was on hand with an array of statistics looking in detail at his regular fixture, while Zasa also provided a wealth of figures to prepare the community for all Gameweek 12’s matches. Sticking with the Derby, Neighmar provided an interesting analysis of just how effective Alexis Sanchez is when both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are on the pitch.

Meanwhile, our Hall of Fame has been updated to take into account Gameweek 11’s games. Members can see the latest standings here. One community member who has seen his rankings plummet this season is Boris Bodega, who bravely shared his whole season of mishaps and blunders.

The Members Tables

With Philippe Coutinho, Graziano Pelle and Ighalo proving the worth of my goals imminent table, here is the latest update ahead of Gameweek 12. Wakey’s latest table on team statistics over the last four Gameweeks gives a detailed look at how far Manchester United and Chelsea have sunk in terms of attack.

For those looking at investing in Everton Doosra has served up a deliciously named table called Doosra’s Toffee Apples looking at their best players over the last four matches.

The Community Tournaments

Congratulations to Wild Rover. He scooped £1,000 after gaining the highest October score in Ultimate Fantasy Premier League, the sister game of FPL. He is also in with a chance of winning the season-long game, too, as he is currently third in our league and sits fourth in the overall rankings.

Ahead of the launch of the FIFFSA Five-a-side competition, Gameweek 11 saw a friendly against those sides already registered. The full list of winners can be found here courtesy of Rodellegabomb’s update.

Jaffalicious also popped by with an update from the group stages of the FFS UEFA Champions League competition.

Evs takes his turn to play second fiddle to Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. League leader Andy now has a 63-point lead and has a top 100 overall rank for the first time this season.

The first round of BaldersCommunity Grand Play Offs is now complete with a number of moderators and contributors leaving, while inTorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 46, which saw 141 players depart and 1588 remain.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Just juggling the MD1 & 2 selections over the last couple of days has been entertaining. No I don't, all my ML opponents are FPL only. I've set my team up for coming month only and looking to learn the nuances of the game for the rest of the season and start at gameweek 1 next year. Hadn't ever considered it till i read your posts, so cheers again.

Give it a few weeks and you will hardly be able to look at FPL in the same light...it seems such a small game by comparison.

Thanks! I just think it will be a low scoring game and Sánchez has looked off for weeks. You could be right though I do worry I'm reading too much into recent statistics for this decision - I mean this is a guy who scored 6 goals in three games a few weeks ago!

Regrettably probably Bony again, can't justify giving it to Pellè considering his abysmal accuracy at the moment and Payet seems too much of a gamble.

Wish I had Lukaku, I'd happily give him the armband this week...

I'm a little jealous, I really wish I had Bony to captain this week. I think Lukaku is a good choice as well but don't have him either! I don't have anyone I really want to captain which is annoying..

    Current team

    Fabianski
    Francis, VvD, Janmaat
    Mahrez, KdB ©, Sanchez, Payet
    Pellé, Vardy, Lukaku

    Bench: McCarthy, Eriksen, Bellerin, Saylor

    £0.5 ITB - 1FT

Was planning on using my wildcard over the International break to get Aguero back but not so sure now.

Do I still play it and do a transfer tonight? :

    A) Janmaat to Rojo then WC tomorrow
    B) Francis to Moreno then WC tomorrow
    C) Leave as is, have 2 FT for International break and save my WC

I actually don't feel the need to use my WC yet and so if I don't use it I'd rather save the transfer and take 2 into the break with me.

I like Rojo and Moreno but I'd rather save the WC now until I know Aguero is back then I can get him in without a hit.

Is it still a case of strikers not getting many bonus points even if they do score?

What's Vardys history of bonus considering he has scored in nearly every game?

A couple of times I have catained a striker and he finishes on 12 points. Kind of feels like a blank. That extra 6 points all adds up.

    Vardy 1 goal and 0 bonus = 12 points
    Mahrez 1 goal and 3 bonus = 20 points

Mahrez the logical choice? You are gambling that Vardy doesnt score but even if he does you are losing 4 points. Haraly the end of the world.

Gtg? Don't like benching Sagna but not sure I prefer benching anyone else either...

    DDG
    Van Dijk, Moreno
    Sanchez, Ozil, Mane(c), KDB(v), Payet
    Vardy, Lukaku, Ighalo

    Hennessey, Sagna, Bellerin, Moreno

Defence for this week is Azpi Kolarov and Betrand, worth using one FT to do Azpi --> Rojo or save to have two for the int break?

I'm maybe thinking the sensible thing to do is bench Wijnaldum from this front 8.

    Sanchez, Özil, KDB, Payet, Wijnaldum
    Lukaku, Pelle, Vardy

I know. That's how hard it is. I've just looked at Newcastle's away record.
1 goal all season. Their playing Bournmouth so I expect them to score but that stat worries me.

36 shots in last 2 matches mate, I don't think you should be worried about their not scoring

Don't kill me but how about benching Sanchez?

Oh I don't know. I'm off to bed to sleep on it.

            Bench Sanchez, that's daring!

Would it be wiser play Wij but not (c) him? Lukaku might be a better (c) punt.

    Hey lads!

Defence is a bit crippled but what do you think?

    Butland
    Richards Evans Huth
    Sanchez Marhez(c) Payet KDB
    Pelle Vardy Kane

McCarthy Deadwood Bellerin Darmian 1FT 3.3 ITB

    A) Richards to Moreno
    B) Darmian to Rojo
    C) Save

I quite liked my Ozil and Sanchez double up when Wally was playing striker, it was looking great...Now suddenly without Wally up front and the annual injury pile up for Arsenal I'm not as convinced.

Yeah one injury away from a crisis ... Though it could force Ozil to shoot more if they need goals from him!

Me too. I prefer Ozil to Sanchez atm to be honest. If Silva comes back with a bang...

Sanchez looks sluggish of late by his standards...He's being pushed too much I suspect, and it won't get any easier with no chance of a rest.

No, but sport doesn't necessarily work that way though.

Just because you scored x number of goals against team A doesn't mean that you'll score as many against team B, who aren't as good as team A.

Has to be vardy captain this week.
He will be busting a gut to keep up his scoring record
He has pace to burn and his finishing has been excellent.
He has mahrez and Albrighton supplying the bullets
    Home to Watford.
    What could go wrong?
