The dangers of a strong front eight were exposed this week as those who benched or drafted out the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Odion Ighalo were left heartbroken. The great form of Mahrez and his team-mate Jamie Vardy dominated the thoughts of our community writers and hot topic posts this week. We also look at colourful team form, the latest stats from our Members tables and catch up on those who are at the summit of our community leagues, with a little help from Leicester’s stars no doubt.

The Community Articles

Jose’s Magic Omelette has taken a detailed look at the form of Mahrez and Vardy to see if they can be season keepers or not, while the duo also get a mention in Your Mum’s Athletic‘s latest Gameweek predictions based on what the bookies say.

Form continues to be the focus of The Sarjeant’s regular weekly community article. This week his insight has been bolstered by a colourful look at the best and worst attacks and defences over the last six Gameweeks.

Bowstring the Carp’s latest monthly review provides a fascinating insight into the players that helped shape October’s scores. He also looks ahead to this month’s fixture list to pick out some key targets to consider, with Rodellegabomb‘s analysis of a trio of bandwagons ahead of the weekend providing further options.

Meanwhile, congratulations to Bowstring the Carp who wins a £20 Amazon voucher after you voted him community writer of the month for October, fittingly for his monthly review series.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Mahrez and Vardy also took centre stage in our discussion on the merits of doubling up on attackers and midfielders from the same team.

There were certainly plenty of community members who were pleased they had both in their starting XI, according to our Rough with the Smooth round up of your best and worst Gameweek 11 decisions.

But Demi wonders whether investing in the duo is sustainable through tough fixtures. Doolittle is also not getting too carried away and urges caution in considering captaining one of the pair against a resilient Watford side.

Leicester’s opponents were also the focus of Applebonkers, who watched West Brom capitulate against the might of Mahrez last weekend and wondered whether pacey wingers are their Achilles heel.

With the Sergio Aguero cash spent by many on midfield upgrades, plenty of the community find themselves with some tough selection choices ahead. Our discussion on the perils of a great front eight was particularly apt for those who benched a high scoring player last Gameweek. Help is at hand, though, with the All Out Attack chip, according to TorresMagic.

Elsewhere, S Kuqi is in the market for a new defender. Among options to be considered in his discussion on top defensive targets was Liverpool’s forward-thinking full-back, Alberto Moreno.

Arsenal’s problems in defence, with Hector Bellerin ruled out and Laurent Koscielny a doubt, mean their assets may be best avoided going into the North London Derby this weekend. Limpar was on hand with an array of statistics looking in detail at his regular fixture, while Zasa also provided a wealth of figures to prepare the community for all Gameweek 12’s matches. Sticking with the Derby, Neighmar provided an interesting analysis of just how effective Alexis Sanchez is when both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are on the pitch.

Meanwhile, our Hall of Fame has been updated to take into account Gameweek 11’s games. Members can see the latest standings here. One community member who has seen his rankings plummet this season is Boris Bodega, who bravely shared his whole season of mishaps and blunders.

The Members Tables

With Philippe Coutinho, Graziano Pelle and Ighalo proving the worth of my goals imminent table, here is the latest update ahead of Gameweek 12. Wakey’s latest table on team statistics over the last four Gameweeks gives a detailed look at how far Manchester United and Chelsea have sunk in terms of attack.

For those looking at investing in Everton Doosra has served up a deliciously named table called Doosra’s Toffee Apples looking at their best players over the last four matches.

The Community Tournaments

Congratulations to Wild Rover. He scooped £1,000 after gaining the highest October score in Ultimate Fantasy Premier League, the sister game of FPL. He is also in with a chance of winning the season-long game, too, as he is currently third in our league and sits fourth in the overall rankings.

Ahead of the launch of the FIFFSA Five-a-side competition, Gameweek 11 saw a friendly against those sides already registered. The full list of winners can be found here courtesy of Rodellegabomb’s update.

Jaffalicious also popped by with an update from the group stages of the FFS UEFA Champions League competition.

Evs takes his turn to play second fiddle to Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. League leader Andy now has a 63-point lead and has a top 100 overall rank for the first time this season.

The first round of BaldersCommunity Grand Play Offs is now complete with a number of moderators and contributors leaving, while inTorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 46, which saw 141 players depart and 1588 remain.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I wonder what the chances of a good performance by Debuchy getting him in Wengers mind for a permanent spot. He was bought to be first choice after all. Can he take this opportunity?

Mahrez maintaining an 8.5 ppg average over 10 games is insane, especially given 2 of those games were 45 min cameos.

I know what you mean. But it clearly isn't a flash in the pan - Mahrez and Vardy are the top 2 scorers in the game after 11 weeks for a reason. They and LEI are great going forwards! I'm finally coming my round to considering them for captaincy (11 weeks too late!)

I totally agree, Leicester are doing well and those two players are doing great. When I suggested this earlier someone ranted at me that it was stupid to bench them. I never said bench them, I just said I'm not sure about captaining them. I have both and I'm playing both. It's nothing to do with them and nothing to do with Leicester, I'm just concerned about their opposition. Watford are a good defensive side and there are lots of other good players playing weak defensive sides. That's my reasoning, it might backfire, it might not, who knows. I wouldn't bench Vardy and Mahrez because they are too dangerous. If they score and I haven't captained them I at least need their points on the pitch.

Fair point. I have Bony and did consider him for the armband also.

I captained him at home to NOR last week (and we all know how that went), but he is a good option again this week. That being said, AVL are actually one of the better defensive sides when at home (see below). Also, Bony has registered 0 goals and only 4 shots in the box with just 2 on target in his 4 away games to date.

            4th least big chances conceded
5th least shots conceded in the box
            6th least goals conceded

This is what is putting me off Bony(c) anyway

AV have played at home: Swans, Stoke, Sunderland, and ManU in week 2. Defensive #'s might be falsely inflated.

Very good points. However, Villa have played Man Utd, Stoke, Sunderland, WBA and Swansea at home, which are hardly the cream of the attacking crop this season.

Watford are pretty good at the back though.

I know I know everybody said that against brom but I think watfords def is better.

Wouldnt go Sanchez either though, not scored in 4 and looking pretty tired for a while, just back from chasing shadows in bayen for 90 mins. Thinking spurs will upset that game

These are the stats folk should look at, simple ones. Now tell us all what Vardy's are? Does he get more than 6pts at home when he scores one goal?

That's an issue with Vardy imo. Doesn't hog the bonus when he scores which is a little strange.

Despite scoring 3 more goals than Mahrez he didn't get any bonus in 4 of the games he did score and is behind Mahrez 11-17 overall in bonus.

Still a great option mind you

I highly disagree here, simple stats like PPG really aren't indicative of much other than most basic metrics. Keeping in mind a player can still have good form with good underlying stats (Kane, among others). PPG definitely has it's merits, but I would by no means be making entire decisions on one stat like that. Pelle may have scored last week, but his away form since joining the PL is poor & his SiTB/SoT have also dropped massively.

Though this may just have been a pointless rant & you mentioned simple stats in passing.

B-sell martail, get lukaku, bench barkley, then get aguero in GW 14, move to 3-4-3

basically, get lukaku now, delay aguero by a week & bench barkley now

Yeah, completely agree. It's a tricky decision this week for the armband. City could easily hammer Villa, but they don't often convince when both Silva and Kun are out the team. There's also the spreading of points - Yaya, Sterling, KDB and Bony could all be in the mix. Picking the right one is extra difficult. Great if you pick it right, just more difficult imo.

For LEI it's really only Mahrez or Vardy.

Who are you going with this week?

I'm going KDB. Yaya seems flaky this season. Sterling I don't have. If I had Bony, I'd probably go him. It's these kind of weeks where so many guys could do well that a couple of totaly randoms score the highest. THis will be the week Hazard has a brace and Cazorla gets 3 assists and a goal.
