Burnley’s Andre Gray bags a fifth goal of the summer. Gerard Deulofeu and Ross Barkley net again for Everton, whilst Spurs hand a debut to both their pre-season signings in a 2-1 loss to Juventus.

Bolton 1 Burnley 2

Another day, another Andre Gray goal, as the striker netted for the fifth time in pre-season in Burnley’s narrow win over their Lancashire rivals.

Gray, priced at 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League, is rapidly becoming a great example of the form v fixtures debate. He is currently in nearly 10% of FPL squads even though Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester are among Burnley’s first five opponents.

The striker converted a penalty that he earned himself before Bolton hit back and continued to threaten, only for Josh Ginnelly to win it for the Clarets with a late strike.

Strikers Ashley Barnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz, who both suffered hamstring tweaks at the weekend, missed out, as did David Jones and Fredrik Ulvestad. As a result, Dan Agyei was handed a first senior start up front.

After the match, Clarets boss Sean Dyche issued some mixed news on Barnes and Jutkiewicz’ injuries:

“Ashley is unfortunately going to be a bit longer than we hoped. We are not sure exactly how long yet but he’s tweaked a hamstring muscle. The good news is it’s not in the belly of the hamstring, but we are hoping it will settle down quickly. He got off quickly (at Bradford), which is helpful, and Lukas’s is just common sense and a bit of tightness. His (injury) is very minor and he trained on grass on Tuesday and will be training the rest of the week.”

Burnley XI: Heaton (Robinson, 66); Lowton (Darikwa, 71), Keane (Mee, 45), Tarkowski (K. Long, 71), Ward (Lafferty, 66); Arfield (Jackson, 81), O’Neill, Marney (Boyd, 59), Kightly (Ginnelly, 81); Agyei (Hennings, 66), Gray (C. Long, 45).

MK Dons 1 Everton 3

Gerard Deulofeu scored one goal and set up another as Everton continued their Ronald Koeman learning curve.

With Romelu Lukaku only just back in training – and his Everton future still in doubt – the young Spaniard was again fielded as a “false nine” and seemed to take a real liking to Koeman’s desire for quick, early balls forward and a pressing game high up the pitch.

That pressure forced a defensive error that Deulofeu capitalised on for the first goal before he played in Ross Barkley for the second.

Muhamed Besic rounded off the Everton scoring late on from an Aiden McGeady assist.

Martin Stekelenburg was preferred to Joel Robles in goal and put in a performance that had the local media suggesting the number one jersey is the Dutchman’s to lose, while Koeman made a raft of changes as the match wore on, including his entire back four, with Leighton Baines and the fit-again John Stones given pitch time.

Despite the victory, Koeman conceded his side were very much a work in progress:

“The team, the players, we need to press better. The pitch in some stages of the game was too long. If you press up front, it means the midfielders they need to push up as well and it’s the same for the defenders. If one is pressing and the player behind is not following, you get problems. On that we need to improve.”

Everton XI: Stekelenburg, Coleman (Baines 61), Pennington (Holgate 61), Mori (Stones 61), Oviedo (Galloway 61), Tarashaj (McGeady 46), Cleverley (Besic 61), Davies (Gibson 61), Mirallas (Lennon 61), Barkley (Dowell 61), Deulofeu

Barnsley 2 Hull 2

A late equaliser from Jarrod Bowen kept Hull’s unbeaten pre-season record intact.

Bowen struck from a Peter Odemwingie assist as caretaker manager Mike Phelan was again forced to field a number of Academy players in light of the club’s many injury woes.

Adama Diomande had given the Tigers the lead early in the first half, finishing well from a Shaun Maloney pass, but Barnsley gave as good as they got throughout the match and came within four minutes of securing a comeback victory.

David Meyler made his first appearance of pre-season to boost Phelan’s midfield options, although the latter’s days in the role look numbered, with former Everton boss Roberto Martinez now the clear favourite to land the Hull job.

Hull XI: Kuciak, Elmohamady, Tymon, Davies, Clackstone (Barkworth 59), Diame, Clucas, Maloney (Meyler 78), Odemwingie (Olley 87), Diomande (Bowen 46), Luer (Hernandez 57).

Spurs 1 Juventus 2

Tottenham’s pre-season started with a loss to Juventus as coach Mauricio Pochettino fielded an inexperienced side that gifted the Italian giants two first half goals.

With a raft of international stars still recovering from their summer workload, Pochettino did at least manage to hand debuts to new signings Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen. Given that Kevin Wimmer (black eye) and Christian Eriksen (illness) missed out, asking such a young team to keep Juventus at bay was always going to be tricky.

Spurs improved considerably after the break and Erik Lamela, one of three half-time substitutes, cut the arrears after good work from Wanyama, who was one of only two outfield players to feature from start to finish.

Post-match, Pochettino was hopeful that Eriksen could recover in time for the upcoming clash against Atletico Madrid:

“[Eriksen] got a virus when we arrived in Australia on Saturday. It was impossible for him to be involved in the game [against Juventus]. We’ll see. We will see what happens on Friday and we hope he will be available to play 45 minutes.”

Spurs XI: Vorm; Trippier (Walkes 63), Ball (Amos 79), Carter-Vickers, Miller (Yedlin 46); Mason (Winks 46), Wanyama; Son (Lamela 46), Carroll (Edwards 63), Chadli (Onomah 46); Janssen (Harrison 63).

Couple of things I could do with help with:

Firstly any comments on my provisional team?

    DDG / (Juko)
    Walker / Gabriel / Stones / (Naylor) / (Paredes)
    Gradel / Hazard / Barkley / Siggy / (Watmore)
    Aguero / Ibra / Austin or 6.5m

Main question at the moment is DDG + Gabriel or Foster + Kosc

Also wondering who's likely to start LB for West Ham with Creswell out?

I reckon so, if not scoring, then assisting. His creativity is an underrated part of his fantasy appeal, as is his all round game including regularly reaching the passing quota(some striker like Costa don't) which increases bap likelihood also. He's much better value than Ibrahimovic, in my opinion.

Costa is defiantly the safe option, he's got the history of scoring in the Prem and a nailed on starter, but I do think Batsman is going to be awesome. Better to go Costa as its an easy swap later on.

Does anyone think its best to start with money in the bank? Thinking of downgrading my 9.5m Mid for Firmino then I can always swap in the best premium midfielder if necessary or use the money elsewhere.

yep, there is a risk. But there's no guarantee Kane will be one of the top scorers either. He has had 1.5 great seasons in the PL, but was absolutely appalling bad in the Euros.

Aguero has, plus Kane was slow off the mark last season. But he'd be in my team ahead of Ibra to be honest

That's interesting, I think the hype which Ibra creates has pushed Kane out of our thinking, but when you step back and look at it logically Kane has the form, and proven PL player, he should be ahead of Ibra. Although I expect CL to throw a spanner in the Spurs team.

For me, the reason is lack of pre-season for the whole Spurs team. Kane is not even with the team in Australia, Erikson is there but got sick, so didn't play. Most of the expected starting XI will only play some of the game in Oslo, the week before the season starts.
So no Spurs players for me till I see where they're at.
..... of course with my track record, that probably means hat-tricks all round 🙁

I'm new to fantasy football and I have a few questions about the wildcard.

    1) If your team is worth 103 million and you use a wildcard do you still have 103? Or did your whole club reset including budget?
    2) Let's say I use a wildcard in GW4 but I didn't make any transfers in GW1, GW2 and GW3. Can I keep them and use them later after the early wildcard? Or can't you save transfers at all? Otherwise I will make a well planned team for the first 3 weeks without transfers and after the early wildcard I have 4 saved transfers.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Cradders
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

You can only save one transfer to roll over so unless wildcarding you can only ever have 2 transfers at one time and they don't carry over after your wildcard

And you have a team value and a selling value when transferring players. So if your team is rated £104m your selling value may be £102m and that's what you get to spend

1.) You make transfers first, then choose to play the wildcard.
With all transfers you gain half of the appreciation of value a player has while under your ownership if you transfer them out. E.g. you buy for 10.0m, you sell while the market price is 10.2m and you will receive £10.1m,

2.) You can save one week of transfers so a total of 2 free transfers at any point. If you already have 2 free transfers available and do not make a transfer you will 'lose' the additional transfer you would have got the following week.
Following wildcards you reset to 1 available free transfer.

I've had Hazard in most of my teams so far, but I've been thinking is he still the penalty taker for Chelsea? New rules on feinting on run ups might kill his penalty technique.

Hi all, I think its now down to deciding which one of these 2 teams, A or B?:

    Any feedback greatly appreciated.

    TEAM A:
    Foster Jaku
    Alderweireld - Friend - NTaylor - Morgan - Souare
    Hazard - Mahrez - Sigurdsson - Townsend - Hojbjerg
    Aguero - Trollkaku - Long

    TEAM B:
    Foster Jaku
    Baines - Shaw - Cedric - NTaylor - Friend
    Mahrez - Mkhitaryan - Sigurdsson - Townsend - Hojbjerg
    Aguero - Costa - Long

Think he's referring to the centre mids. He has a fetish for them and would love to play a team of 10 centre mids lol

just makes me think he is going to be trying all sorts of different things with many players which can impact others too, not the best for fpl

I agree, I think he will be experimenting a lot. Clichy mentioned they've been trying lots of different systems.

How? He's not gonna use Silva, Sterling or KDB as CB's

Could see both Silva and KdB through theough the middle of midfield somwhow. He'll want pace on the wings, so either that or one of them on the bench imo

The new Ukrainian player (Zinchenko?) they signed is also a number 10. They may see him as a future prospect but I think he'll get some minutes at some point this year (perhaps in cups). Saw him vs Poland at the Euros and he was best player on the pitch for the first hour by a mile.

Its more aimed at Fernando and Fernandinho. Shouldnt impact KdB and I cant see Silva doing well at CB 🙂

If anything it makes you think a bit more about picking a CB if he's going to play a mid there.

Otherwise the mids we're interested in won't play CB

    Hi, guys!

I just wanted to hear your opinions on Leicester's 16/17 season.

With 5 years of experience for me playing FPL, I quickly learned that some players have to be in the team despite of their team's fixtures. The likes of Aguero, Sanchez and a certain Van Persie, back in the day, are just some examples. Last year, Leicester's defence was a must have (especially Fuchs). Not only that, Mahrez and Vardy were in that group of must have players that, despite the teams they were against to, they will just assist or score goals.
So what do you think? Is Fuchs a must have? And what about Mahrez and Vardy?

I think Augero is the only must have at the start of this season. Others will emerge.

I think they were a one season wonder. Losing Kante will impact their CS and Vardy will struggle this year. Only Mahrez I reckon will do well

Thoughts on lamela, deulofeu & coutinho? All seem to be massively overlooked imo. Coutinho is understandable due to fixtures but still so explosive. Deulofeu seems fairly nailed under koemann it seems & lamela the same going by last season. At least one of them is gonna fly out of the blocks no doubt
