An impressive first-half display was enough to see Liverpool beat Chelsea in their own backyard for a second successive season.

Phillipe Coutinho played his part, eased into the Liverpool starting XI courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s untimely groin tweak; he was back amongst the points. As was Diego Costa, who maintained his relentless early season form without seeing yellow. Here’s the Stock Check following Friday’s action…

On the Rise

Diego Costa
Another goal and no booking, this version of Costa undoubtedly requires serious consideration.

Many recruited the Chelsea man as an understudy for Sergio Aguero until Gameweek 6; he has passed that audition.

Some will surely be pondering their options before clicking the eject button to welcome back the City man. Having returned in each of his five Gameweeks, with five goals so far, they will be considering a downgrade in midfield to retain Costa’s services.

However, the Spaniard will need to demonstrate fixture proof qualities to maintain such form: Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United arrive in the next four Gameweeks.

Philippe Coutinho
Having blanked in three Gameweeks since his big haul at Arsenal, the Brazilian returned to the Liverpool line-up and provided a delicious assist for their opener. That was enough to seal him two bonus points.

On a night when Roberto Firmino missed out with a minor injury, Coutinho took his opportunity to strengthen the hold on his 28% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Okay, it’s too early to panic but, given the competition for spots and funds in our squads, Hazard can’t afford to embark on a run of blanks.

Three points from his last two rings alarm bells, as does the dip in his vital statistics – Hazard has mustered two goals attempts over these two blanks, compared to 14 from the opening three Gameweeks.

The Chelsea Defence
Liverpool have had a tough opening with four away trips in the first five. However, Antonio Conte’s outfit don’t have that excuse.

The Blues have enjoyed three home matches but have just the shut-out against Burnley to show for it.

With a combined ownership of 39%, Chelsea’s back five are expensive investments and, with the aforementioned tough fixtures to come, future returns appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Good evening, planning to get kun back this week.
Would you wait until end of week and hoping he drops in price?

A ibra firmino to kun and lamela

You should wait until at least Wednesday night, whether he drops in price or not, just to make sure his ban is completed. It's not like he's going to go up in price.

Only if the game is postponed or abandoned - then his ban remains. It's so, so unlikely but still possible - and buying him now serves no benefit.

Two defenders that impressed me tonight attacking wise. Luiz looked good but a tad expensive with poor fixtures....but Clyne can definitely join the likes of Walker and Valencia as a pick.

      1. Pirlø's Pen
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Agree. However, Liverpools dodgy rearguard and Clynes premier price will put off most.

        1. Dr Dream
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

They only let in a single goal against each of Spurs Lei and Chelsea....and the two London games were away matches.

I'm gonna say that the Liverpool back line isn't as dodgy as folk think after a very shaky start.

      Best Agueroback plan?

      A) Özil>Snodgrass + Lukaku>Aguero
      B) Hazard>Arnautovic + Lukaku>Aguero
      C) Özil>Firmino + Ibrahimovic>Aguero
      D) Antonio>Snodgrass + Ibrahimovic>Aguero
      E) Özil>King/Zaha + Hazard>Firmino + Defoe>Aguero (-4)
      F) Özil>Snodgrass + Hazard>Alli + Defoe>Aguero (-4)

I like the look of A, C and E, would probably come down to who perform better/worse this week.

If you wildcard, you get free transfers all week? So if you sell a player in that week who then drops in price, can you subsequently buy them back at the lower price and pocket the difference?

      Hi lads,

I'm after a bit of advice in terms of how to fit Kun back in!

      My current team is

      Foster Jaku

      Shaw Stones Friend Amat Kone

      Hazard Sanchez Lamela Bolasie Maloney

      Ibra Vardy Benteke

I have the exact cash to do Sanchez and Vardy to Kun and Firmino! Should I make this with a hit or use my WC and change the likes of Lamela?

Squad seems fine - you prepared perfectly to do the switches to get Aguero back.

I guess you could try and create wildcard teams but i doubt they would look too different.

Liverpool and Everton have been a joy to watch so far this year. Think either one of them ends the season in the top 3?

        I agree...and I hope they both do.

Liverpool definitely in with a big shout. No European competition and Klopp has them playing really good stuff. Their movement off the ball in an attacking sense is superb, they ripped us to shreds last weekend.

Everton probably not, but still fancy them for top 6. If Lukaku keeps scoring and Bolasie/Barkley/Mirallas can chip in they will do well.

After the first couple games I thought City, Utd and Chelsea had the top 3 locked up (could be any order though)

Now I think I was a bit hasty. Liverpool look very good and I also think Spurs will rally. Gonna be a rough season for Arsenal though I think
