As the first match of the 2018/19 Premier League season creeps ever closer we switch focus to Sky Sports’ Fantasy game.

We have launched our Free League for the campaign and you can find details of how to join it below.

Here we go over the basics of the game before we delve into more detail in the coming days.

How do I play?

Just like in FPL you select a squad of players that will either earn you attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than your friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world. However, you choose simply a starting XI and do not have a bench.

Gameweeks run from Friday to Thursday with managers allowed transfers in between Gamedays, allowing maximisation of potential points by bringing in an asset yet to play for one who has already been involved that week.

Also, instead of one free switch per Gameweek (and a maximum of two if a previous one is saved), the Sky Sports game allocates 40 transfers that can be used any time during the season, with a limit of five in one Gameweek, creating the need for a more long-term strategy.

Wildcards, or Overhauls, are also available in Sky Sports. The first one becomes available to use following the completion of Gameweek 4 and remains an option until the deadline for Gameweek 6. The second one becomes active after the final match of Gameweek 27, through Gameweek 28 and until the Gameweek 29 deadline.

In Sky Sports Fantasy you can name more than one captain in a Gameweek depending on who is playing on which day. Managers are limited to one captain per day allowing them to potentially have up to four in one Gameweek and get double points for all of them. For example, if there were fixtures on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in any given Gameweek, a Sky Sports Fantasy manager could name a different skipper on each of those match days, providing they did so before that day’s deadline. Managers can also schedule their captains ahead of a Gameweek too.

How do you score points?

The points structure is largely similar to FPL in Sky Sports Fantasy but tends to award more points for the actions mentioned below.

ActionPoints scored
Starting XI2
Substitution appearance1
Goal scored by a goalkeeper/defender7
Goal scored by a midfielder6
Goal scored by a striker5
Goal assist3
Clean sheet by a goalkeeper (must play 60+ mins)7
Clean sheet by a defender (must play 60+ mins)5
A penalty save by a goalkeeper5
Man of the Match5

Can My Team Lose Points?

Unfortunately, just like in FPL there are a few ways to lose points too.

ActionPoints scored
Missing a penalty-3
Every goal conceded from the second goal onwards-1
Each yellow card-1
Each red card-3
Each own goal-2

How do Bonus Points work?

Just like FPL there are additional points on offer for other events in matches, although the structure is slightly different, as you will see below.

Tier 1 Action
Points scored
5 saves made (GK only)2
3 tackles made (all)2
60 completed passes2
3 shots on target2
Tier 2 Action
Points scored
7+ saves made (GK only)3
5+ tackles made (all)3
70+ completed passes3
5+ shots on target3

How do I play against my friends?

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in Sky Sports Fantasy. You can create or join a Free League with your friends and colleagues but there are ways to win money too.

Sky Sports can actually administer your money league for you to avoid any awkwardness post-season. You can choose the entry fee (either £2, £5, £10 or £20 per person) and the prize structure beforehand and Sky Sports will take care of the rest.

How can I join the Fantasy Football Scout league?

As usual, we have got a league on Sky Sports Fantasy. It’s called FFScout and you can join using the code 8386881.

Don't pick Speroni, He won't play, has high ownership so you will only lose value. Steklenburg for a cheap keeper is the pick. Think he starts week 1 as well with Pickford yet to return.

Don't get the hype around Zaha or Arnie. Both did ok last year being classed a midfielder. 1 point extra for goals and 1 extra for clean sheets. West Ham also have shocking fixtures

      1. Patson Dabaka
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 5 months ago

Fair points but I would argue they both did better than ok. West ham do have doggo fixtures but Arnie has proved he can score against anyone and has excellent pre season form.

    rate my team please
    GK Begovic

    DEF Clyne, Daniels, Cédric

MID Redmond, D Silva, Mané, Pedro, Jota

    FWD King, Aubameyang

    subs to be rotated
    Fabianski
    Wan-Bissaka
    Jagielka
    Arnautovic

my thinking is this team until i wildcard in game week 4 or 5
a lot of usual players, KDB, Aguero, Firminho, Eriksen etc... missing due to lack of pre season and due to possible fatigue from long footballing summber.

7.5m in the bank to upgarde when needed.

with possibly no kane starting first game, he'll be more influential i guess.

could swap eriksen for pedro, and still have 4.5m in bank for further upgrades if and when needed.

Don't leave that much in the bank.

cheers to all for suggestions, guess i need to re-think my strategy a little bit.

took the below from all your comments.

more certain starters, less money keep in bank, certain big names are now to consider as they are getting minutes.

What do you think is more important - having a Man City DF or a Man City MF for the first 8 GWs

If so which player would you choose

    Any ideas would be welcomed

MF's Mahrez and David Silva double up probably...

      7 years, 5 months ago

Both if you can. As much as a midfielder could rack up the points, a city defender (I.e. Ederson) could very conceivably rack up 6 clean sheets from gw2-7.

Possibly your team structure needs tweaking if you’re looking to rotate Tosun/Zaha or Kun/Auba.Id play those two pairs every week like my old Barbara Windsor dreams.

    4. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…
      • 16 Years

Don't get too hung up on rotation it rarely works and causes more frustartion with points on the bench.
Those who are pro-rotation always look at last seasons stats in hindsight as if you would pick the correct option to play every week!
Just so you know the comment convention is to rotate cheap defenders/goalkeeper.
Occasionally people might rotate cheap forwards or mid-range mids/ forwards and defenders.
But what you are planning will make it even more likely that you leave points on the bench.
As high priced attackers are normally capable of scoring against any team regardless of the fixture difficultly.
      Good luck with it anyway.
It is nice to see someone that is not afraid to think differently.

      1. rp1501
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 5 months ago

by rotate I meant as they ar same price I would use transfers to rotate when one has an easier run of fixtures comin up effectively Im asking Salah and a 7m forward (either Tosun or Zaha) or Mane and a 11m forward (either Aguero/Auba)

    5. ritzyd
      • 8 Years

      1. rp1501

        7 years, 5 months ago

To clarify this by rotate I man by using transfers- i.e. id start with aguero becuse I like thir opening run of fixtures bu then after GW6 (or if Aguero isnt getting enough gametime) I would bring in auba

What do you guys think to the below team?

    Ederson
    Coleman Bailly VVD Daniels
    Salah Mane Sanchez Pedro
    Morata Tosun

    Button Tomkins Kamara Stephens

Depending on how teams are looking in CS and last friendlies:-
    Ederson could become Alisson
    Coleman could become Luiz
    Daniels could become Cedric
    Pedro could become Richarlison
    Morata could become Firmino/Laca
    Tomkins could become AWB

But they are all straight swaps besides if Morata becomes Firmino or Laca in which case Tomkins becomes AWB

Doing a set and forget league (manual subs allowed, though) for the season (ie, no transfers). How does this look?

    Ederson (stekelenberg)
Robertson, bellerin, tark, (wan bissaka, bednarek)
    Salah, eriksen, Ramsey, gudmundsson, (kenedy)
    Aub, arnie, Zaha

    Thanks

if its a set and forget I'd say revisit that defence- you could easily be in a position where you've only given yourself 1/2 starters at the back there some weeks. Bellerin far from nailed under new manager with lichsteiner in there, wan-bisaka not nailed neither is bednarek. Add in Tarkowski being quite injury prone and Robbo likely to be rotated with Moreno around CL fixtures and you could be in trouble. Like the rest although is quite reliant on arsenal

Lack of City attack is a concern. Wouldn't have Gunners double so Ramsey would have to make room. Ideally for KDB.

Think you need 15 first teamers if its set and forget so 4.0m dF's won't cut it

      Thanks all! All good points.

I hadn't thought about the robbo and bellerin risks. Or that I'd accidentally tripled on arsenal!

I was a bit concerned guessing at the city attack to be honest but kdb is probably the best option, yes.

Hey ! Hope y'all had a good summer.

Random Q for the experts - are BOU looking for a new keeper? 9.5 for the two BOU keepers seems reasonable.

Like the team for the opening few weeks but can you see the likes of Shaw and Pedro lasting beyond that? They are 2 transfers waiting to happen for you - I'd maybe consider downgrading Pedro and upgrading Shaw to VA and Jagielka to a 5.5er maybe?

      Love the front three though!!

Sane / Kenedy / Zaha plus 0.5 ITB or change to:
    Ozil / Morata / Stephens 0 ITB

Yeah I know but Kenedy is my 5th mid, so likely benched in my 343.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see them turn Spurs over 1st game though!!
