Why I am Wildcarding for FPL Gameweek 9 and the key players I am signing

My Fantasy Premier League Wildcard is now active and in this article I will be going through the list of players and teams I am targeting.

With eight Gameweeks now gone, I feel I have enough data to make an informed decision.

As I am using this so extensively, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

Just wait until next week's fpl wire episode, all will be revealed (for free) then.

        I'm going to guess:

        Martinez Forster
        Cancelo, Chilwell, Kilman, Lamptey, Ayling
Salah, Fernandes (1 week punt before KDB), Ziyech, Grealish, Stephens
        Werner, DCL, Watkins

think grealish + watkins is just silly overuse. but flavor of the week I guess

Similar to my 352 wc draft if going that route

What do you think about Vardy (liv FUL shu BHA) instead of Ziyech/Bruno in a 343 team?

Vardy vs Bruno comes down to personal preference really, Vardy hasn't offered enough in open play for my liking

That's interesting. I thought Bruno would offer less in open play than Vardy.

If you had to rank the players you want most of the following, what would your preference be?

      KdB, Salah, Bruno, Vardy

My 2pworth: 1. Salah (season keeper), 2/3. KDB (fixtures, no form yet) or Vardy (form and reasonable fixtures), 4. Fernandes (form but can't trust Utd week to week).

Great reading, thanks. I had just posted on the previous article about my dilemma regarding my midfield slots. I'm on WC now too and I think a strong midfield 5 is the way forward. Do you have any thoughts on Jota? I think at the moment I'm leaning towards Salah, Grealish, KdB, Fernandes and Son/Ziyech. That could be tough to afford though without weakening the rest of my team. I'm unsure about Son's spot in my team still, as part of me says it's madness to sell the top scoring midfielder in the game.

What I end up with on WC is likely going to be very similar to yours.

Thanks Zophar. I played my WC last night for the same reasons you state, and read this knowing your team wouldn’t likely be v similar. And it’s exactly the same! I’m thinking that power 5 in midfield ahead of this run could be season defining

Nice first draft @zophar but I think cancelo, bernardo and brewster are traps given the season we are in. Covid could hit any game and any player on any given weekend and as such I don't think non starting/ not nailed/ young cheap players in struggling team with no form should be brought in on a wc. Might mean sacrificing a little bit in midfield but maybe zyech to soucek could free up money to help sort out the other three spots?

TV of 103.4 is same as mine. Reckon that's good at this stage. Play it right and you're probably looking at 105+ by xmas. Key is getting (and keeping) the right players - as in the ones scoring points - and not focusing on TV. Everything else will follow from that.

Great team Zoph. Similar to what I'm moving towards myself with a budget forward line of DCL, Bamford, and Watkins, and going with the big hitters in midfield (Bruno, Salah, KDB, and one of Grealish/Ziyech) by GW11, who I'll rotate captaincy between. Only reservation here would be Brewster as he has done absolutely nothing of note so far, but if you are going to stick with 3-5-2 formation then it scarcely matters (I'll be 3-4-3 myself). Good luck.

yeah there's a good argument for that with the value bamford is offering but I couldn't not have either ziyech or grealish so decided 3-5-2 was the way to go.

Thinking of going with Hamez & Martial for now and switching to Fernandez & sub 6.2M striker in 3-4 weeks as I really want hamez for now.

Or should I just bring in fernandez and Watkins in now?

    1. Bojam
      • 6 Years
      3 years, 4 months ago

It isn't clear if you already have Hamez and Martial and are keeping them or if you are planning to transfer them in?

I'd say that if you have Hamez he's a keep for now. Bringing him in could also be a good shout but there might be better options depending on your team.

Not at all sure about Martial - he's done nothing in the PL yet this season. Utd's form isn't reliable and West Brom are the kind of team they can struggle to break down.

Watkins is a great option given form and fixtures. Fernandes has form too but it's Utd...

        • 7 Years

Thanks for the input. I dont have hamez and martial atm. I would b doing costa + jimmy out to one of the above options. I just have a strong feeling about hamez.
With united I feel when its an easier team, martial & rash are good shouts.

Hmm something I gotta think about.

That's a great WC team. But Spurs will score in those games. They scored 6 away at Old Trafford. Liverpool conceded 7 from Villa, City 5 from Leicester, Chelsea 3 in a couple of games. Isn't it obvious form is over fixtures, specially this year, there is no away games technically.

Thanks, of course I'm not saying Spurs won't score, but Mourinho is likely to adopt a more cautious approach so the cash can be better to used to get captain options from other teams , thats the point im making

Really nice. If I wildcard, I think that's what I would go for.

However, with an 8 pt hit I can get
    Mccarthy button
    Chilwell James ayling Taylor mitchell
    Mané kdb Bruno grealish soucek
    DCL Watkins bamford

Even enough itb to go James to cancelo.

    WC or - 8?

I wouldn’t WC if I could achieve the same outcome for -8 - if that’s what you’re suggesting

Yes, kdb. But I could just do

        Kdb and coufal/targett

I'm thinking of WC in GW9 as well but struggling with final two slots - £17m ITB - thinking Zaha and Werner?

    GK : McCarthy
    DEF : Chilwell
    DEF : Cancelo
    DEF : Target
    DEF : Kilman (Bench 1/2)
    DEF : Bernando (Bench 3)
    MID : Salah
    MID : Ziyech
    MID : Fernandes
    MID : Grealish
    MID : ?
    FWD : DCL
    FWD : ?
    FWD : Brewster (Bench 1/2)

I understand that Rashford should be fine as he has not withdrawn from international camp.

Just in case the price force my hand. Would it be too much to double Bruno & Rashford in the coming games : WBA / sou / whu ?

    (A) Son > Bruno and double United
    (B) Rashford > Bruno and keep Spurs duo

    Salah - Son - Rashford - Grealish - Zaha
    Kane - DCL (Brewster)

If you have to play both every week then 2. Especially since you won't captain Spurs until GW16, so Kane being better than Son doesn't matter as much.

What would you do with this team: 1 free transfer and nothing in the bank.

    McCarty (button)
    Trent Bellerin Chilwell (Justin Mitchell)
    Bruno(c) Salah Son Soucek ASM
    Kane Calvert (Davis)

I’m 300k in the world atm but not sure if I need to wildcard that team

I know two guys who achieved top 10k finishes last season. They don't watch or read any FPL content. They dont do FPL statistics to choose players. It gets better, neither of them actually watch football. They follow the BBC football scores at the weekend and that's it.
They just pick players based on who they think is doing well and take hits to get in the players they want straight away. If a decent player scores a brace they will transfer them in immediately regardless if its for a hit. Sorry if this depresses you in any way 🙂

      1. The Mandalorian

For captain they pick either the best player or most inform player who has the easiest fixture.

I find a player who is on the verge of being sold by most, is right for the picking. Frightening how many times a player performs when all looks lost.
