International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty and who will miss Gameweek 4?

The first international break of the season got underway today, with not far off 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players in action for their countries over the next week.

Some national sides are cramming in a triple-header of games over this period and a handful of Fantasy assets will be taking part in all three of their nations’ respective matches.

Others won’t be featuring at all, with the Premier League clubs digging their heels in and (mostly) refusing to release players for national team duty if they are representing, or playing a match in, a country on the UK government’s red list.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Raphinha (£6.5m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Richarlison (£7.6m) look set to have the fortnight off and – as it stands – be available for Gameweek 4, then, although the threat of five-day sanctions beyond the international window for Brazil players still hangs in the air at present.

Who Will Miss Out in Gameweek 4?

Toney off the mark as injuries and Covid impact Villa 3

Anyone travelling to a red-list country faces quarantine for 10 full days in a managed hotel on their return to the UK, and Premier League players are no exception.

As far as we’re aware, there are only five such FPL assets who fall into this category in the September international break.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m), Emiliano Buendia (£6.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£4.5m), Giovani Lo Celso (£5.9m) and Cristian Romero (£4.9m) have been given permission by their clubs to head to South America and all of them will miss Gameweek 4 as a result.

The quintet are available for their countries’ first two World Cup qualifying matches but will not take part in the third international match – meaning that their quarantine periods will have ended by the time Gameweek 5 comes around.

OTHER PLAYERS WHOSE COUNTRIES FACE RED-LIST NATIONS

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 3?

You may notice some players in the club-by-club list below whose names we originally listed as being at risk of missing Gameweek 4 if they went away on international duty.

There is a compromise of sorts for these FPL assets: they are being allowed to represent their countries but in only the fixtures not staged in a red-list nation.

For example, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is being allowed to turn out for Jamaica in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at home to Panama on Sunday.

But Antonio will miss the Reggae Boyz’ other two games, away at Mexico and Costa Rica, as both of those countries are on the UK’s red list for international travel.

As a result, and barring injury or illness, he’ll be allowed to play in Gameweek 4 for West Ham.

I think I'm going to try one whole season without City assets

Grealish ticking over, but for 8.0 you get Jota/Greenwood etc.

      Mahrez rotation

Torres will be a whole lot of 1 pointers

      and so on.

I think hitting the right player on purple patch is great, but I fail every time with City players

I think a lot of us are going that way - not intentionally as such; there just don't seem to be any City players worth taking such a risk on. Tell you when it all might change though - I can see Salah and Mane off to Africa just as KDB hits a streak.

          True

But in that period it might be even more tempting going Ronaldo/Kane + Lukaku instead

    My team is

    Martinez, Steele
    TAA, Shaw, Livramento, White, Veltman
    Salah, Benrahma, Fernandes, Raph, Biss
    Antonio, Wilson, Ings

Would a (-4) be a good move for
    Martinez to Sa
    Fernandes to Sarr/Jota
    Ings to Ronaldo

I am thinking of a wildcard but not sure if necessary yet…

For those asking about Ronaldo's gametime, his minutes, his impact on Bruno and his output, I have one thing to say

"there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know."

    So sit tight

It did say it last year. I paid for it last year will the full knowledge that it would be a recurring subscription - I then manually cancelled it in January as I was having my worst season ever and had just benched Soucek, Bamford and Gundogan in consecutive weeks for their braces.

If you click on your profile, down in the section where it says subscription, I have my next renewal date of September 2022. There's a button I can click that says cancel. I assume if I pressed it, that would mean that my subscription will cease after this.

People are underestimating Arsenal defensive assets way too much. I think a double-up on Arsenal defense can be an absolute goldmine of points per million.

Most manageres do. If a player scores they have to get him, even if his next 5 fixtures are trash. Same with Arsenal, they've had bad luck with injuries, and everyone writes them off.

So you're saying it's not true, or you just trying to make fun of people? People are reactionary and make decisions game by game, as you can see with the price rises and drops.

I did not say Arsenal was a good choice, Im saying people are overreacting, as we often see in fotball and FPL.

Exactly, I find most people on here are reactive rather than proactive and just follow the hurd. Take a look at Pepe for example. Ended up towards the latter part of the season playing very well and scored 10 goals [6 in Europe]. Once he is back to fitness and plays [assuming Arteta plays him!!!], he has the potential to do very well this season and especially once a new manager comes in [fingers crossed]. You watch everyone on here then jump on the bandwagon and pick up Pepe!

I don't think this is as stupid as it sounds at first. Arsenal are top of the fixture ticker. They just played literally the two best teams in the country and the 2nd game with 10 men for the majority.

I wouldn't double up, but having one cheap Arsenal defender could be very good.

we are in dire shape at the moment but most teams will lose to chelski and man city this season so WHATEVA HATERRZ

if you aren't getting white in at 4.4 or tierney at 4.9 your loss

I have had White from the start and I have been happy to hold despite price drops. Arsenal will get better and I think Arteta will start from the back for improving results. They just need a bit of confidence to get going. If you don't have any Arsenal players I would wait and see, not owning them will not hurt your rank and they have a good fixture run for a while so jumping on later will still give you opportunity to capitalize.

Hopefully the find that bit of solidity they had for the final stretch last season

But Arteta is in real danger if they lose the next game - and even though they’ll be favourites & couldn’t really ask for a better fixture to bounce back - any team can lose any game at any time

      So it’s a good test

I have 4.4 Ben White stinking up my team so he better play, and return while he’s at it

A nice a fixture as Wolves has, it's still a less than 50% chance they get a clean sheet, so you're looking at a likely 2 points for a 4-point hit. I just play one I've got and do the transfer next week for no hit.

My point was you're getting a defender for the run in not just for one GW but I get what you're saying. -4 if no other defender to jump in is not a problem for me but it's always team dependant of course.

Depends on your defence. If you have cover for the next few weeks. If you’re wildcarding within next few weeks

Play Cash (che) or Ayling (liv)?
Or Cash to under 6.0m defender is worth a hit?

I'd play Cash. Think Leeds mat concede quite a few against Liverpool

    What to do with Ronaldo?

This question is highly important, and one that feels pivotal in rank for the next 4/5 weeks l, and certainly a defining moment for the overall narrative of our individual seasons.

Guided by nostalgia, fully-functioning eyes, or both, many are using their free transfers, even the precious Wildcard chip, to accommodate the sensational Portuguese goal-machine. Deciding your own stance is essential, one that requires a quick, snappy answer, considering that plum Newcastle (H) fixture.

Ownership statistics are currently above 10% already, for the player with a hefty 12.5m price tag. This tag alone can help determine the stance; if you don’t plan to captain Ronaldo in atleast 3 of the next 4, the answer is clear: do not get Ronaldo.

For others, if you plan to transfer him in, then, considering United’s form is key. In my opinion (I am not driven by stats, mainly the eye test) United have looked distinctly average against two average teams. Will United show their gameweek one form in the next few weeks? Nobody knows. The Mctominay injury, certainly has that feeling of ‘importance’ - Fred is in poor form. Assessing your stance on United’s future form, particularly when many will be taking a hit, is essential, yet tricky.

Getting Ronaldo or not isn’t a clear-cut answer, but it could certainly feel
like it was come Saturday afternoon, as captain hindsight caps are swiftly and en masse placed on heads as he scores big this gameweek, and felt more acutely when effective ownership comes into play.

I’m leaning towards Ronaldo. For those fpl managers who fervently argue that they pick players based on who they think scores the most points, Ronaldo will demonstrate how the crowd can (and more importantly does) influence them. Fear is pervasive. Certainly excitement isn’t the only driving factor behind this incredibly ownership rise.

I’d planned a gamweek 7/8 Wildcard, with the team structure radically altering as I acquired Lukaku (Kane if he went to City). Ronaldo brings this restricting forward, and gives me that option to get Lukaku as his replacement when United’s fixtures turn after the Everton (H) game. This could be very handy.

Do I take a -4 or lose my mind behind the sofa for the weekend? That -4 suddenly seems less painful.

Adios. Good luck all. P.S. if I had Lukaku I’d (C)

There's a potential Black Swan (/Black Magpie) event in the making at Old Trafford GW4

The atmosphere for the Leeds game was electric when Varane was being introduced... with CR7, it has the potential to be up another couple of notches again - and I personally just can't see utd (or their fans) settling for 1 or 2 goals, they will be going for a full blooded evisceration goal fest

Plus Newcastle are a much worse team than Leeds

Even though I'm not a fan of expensive strikers in FPL - longer term there actually does look to be a nice little Ronaldo/Lukaku hokey coming into view with the switchover around the GW7 mark and the switch back around GW14 - it's pretty neat & clean

Very much agreed. Not often I’d say I’m on the same page as yourself, here I fully am.
