Scout Picks

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 4 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

The final selection is partly based on the Scout Squad consensus picks but budgetary constraints, midweek minutes and injury updates from the pre-match press conferences are all factored in, too.

We line up in a 4-3-3 formation this week and, as ever, are limited to £83.0m for our first XI.

SCOUT PICKS CHANGES FOR 2022/23

While the maximum starting XI budget remains the same, there has been a slight change to how we nominate substitutes following our on-site poll.

FPL Gameweek 3 Scout Picks: Kane returns, Maddison in

As a result, given that our starting XI costs £82.9m, we have £17.1m to spend on the four substitutes you see on our Scout Picks graphic.

However, in an attempt to please both crowds (the poll was extremely tight after all), we’ll be giving some slightly more expensive alternatives below where appropriate, who in most cases, carry a bit more potential.

GOALKEEPER

FPL 2022/23 'sleeper' picks: David Raya 1

Brentford’s defensive form remains a bit of a concern, particularly when Thomas Frank opts for a 4-3-3 formation over a wing-back system. However, given Everton’s lack of attacking threat, we’re backing ‘keeper David Raya (£4.5m) to collect his second clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 4. The Spaniard has managed 13 saves across his first three games – only Dean Henderson (£4.6m) has managed more. The Toffees, meanwhile, have created only three big chances so far this season and won just twice on the road in 2021/22.

Each week, a member of the Fantasy Football Scout community takes on the Scout Picks.

The community member who beats our team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Moderators and Contributors League for the following season.

Our champion this week is Boris Bodega, the organiser of the SKLW community competition, who has gone with the following selection: Pope; James, Cucurella, Dalot; Son (c), Sterling, Kulusevski, Diaz, Rashford; Ings, Welbeck

Anyone considering bringing in Rashford as a cheeky punt?

Looked incredible vs LIV...now has two of the weakest defenses (SOU & LEI).

Wildcarded....got the heck out of Liverpool's defence.

Thoughts? I did this last Saturday and the side is now about 100.6m...

    Reya (Ward)
Saliba Trippier Perisic (N Williams Patterson)
    Salah KDB Rodrigo Martinelli (Andreas)
    Kane Jesus Toney

Yes, being able to cram Kane/KDB/Salah in was a now or never unless I wanted a completely useless defence. TAA looked awful in that United game, he's not at his best.

Similar team (except Sanchez and Haaland), similar thought process. Easy to downgrade one of the premiums if it all goes wrong or Liverpool looks themselves again. Do you think Kane is the better pick, or couldn't you stretch to Haaland?

          1. Donnie Chen
            • 15 Years
            3 years, 5 months ago

Haaland works for now, but as Pep says, he won't play twice in a week, and when Europe kicks in that'll be a premium on the bench some weeks. Kane is just cast iron in.

I think if wildcarding now you need to shift one of Salah or Kane and imvest funds Elsewhere.

I think it is way too early to ditch both trent and robbo alo

      1. Donnie Chen

It does feel strong across the board though - not sure who I'd prefer to get in. Zaha would be nice but can't drop Martinelli for him and Rodrigo is an equivalent. Liverpool looked awful against United - I can't have that much money tied up in TAA & Robbo as it stands. Hoping Salah/KDB/Kane will fire to cover that gap if they do start up, but can always drop one and have funds to play with in a normal transfer week.

        1. Team Bobcat
          • 9 Years

I think is salah starts scoring it is universal accross the team. Robbo may be worth holding onto if not prepared to keep both. Salah can be dropped to Diaz if you fancy liverpol to come strong soon otherwise look elsewhere.

I would change kane for haaland also if dropping salah

          1. Donnie Chen

My thought is Haaland will be rotated soon (Pep's said so) - for sure this coming triple match week. Kane will start all of the games and has NFO/WHM/FUL - good fixtures.

The nice thing about this wildcard is that I can drop a premium and get a Liverpool defender in if things start picking up (with their CB rotation problems I can't see it happening soon, they're leaky). For now, it's way too much money tied up to have TAA+Robbo, my mini league position is the proof! 😀

If Liverpool gets the clean sheet, you risk a red arrow which is not a good idea with the WC. Actually it's between TAA and Toney. Although Toney is a great pick but TAA will outscore Toney both in the short and long runs.

      1. Donnie Chen
        • 15 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

Upgrading my most expensive defender Perisic to TAA only leaves me with 5.1m for a Toney replacement. No worthwhile forward is under 6m, so it's just condemning a slot to bench-meat for me. TAA may eventually outscore Toney (although not on last week's form) but Perisic + Toney is surely going to outscore TAA + a 5.1m FW.

I think he might play with azpi thiago and cucu as a back 3 with chilwel and james LCB & RWB

    Ederson
    TAA, Trippier, Gabriel, Jonny

with the Martial injury it does make him interesting.
i might do it if i had the flexibility. if the other options are Zaha/Rodrigo/Gross etc then I'd say Rashford ain't a bad alternate for the fun of it.

    B) Saliba, Emerson Royal, KDB

Is Rashford classed as a punt? More than capable of 15-20 goals this season if United build on the midweek victory. I've had him since the start. I'm not saying I'll hold if United's form drops off again, but definitely in for next few matches.

Veltman goes under the radar a lot, always done well for me. Seems to pick up more bonus points than Dunk. His goal threat is actually greater than Dunk's so far too (that may not last though). Either is fine.

    Sanchez

There are plenty of value for money players. It's just a case of picking them at the right time . There are certainly more than the 3 you list
