It’s time for our semi-regular look at which Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are on penalties, corner-kicks and free-kicks for their respective clubs.

Our Set-Piece Takers tab rounds up our estimated pecking order but these shorter-term recaps look at what’s happened in the Gameweeks just gone.

Our last such article came in the New Year, so here we focus on Gameweeks 20-22.

KEY OBSERVATIONS AND NOTEWORTHY CHANGES

  • Christian Eriksen‘s (£6.3m) injury alerted us to the possibility of Bruno Fernandes (£9.9m) getting a bigger share of corners and free-kicks but don’t forget Luke Shaw (£5.3m), either: the Manchester United left-back took two of the Red Devils’ five corners against Crystal Palace on Saturday (Fernandes delivered the other three), having taken another four in Gameweeks 20-21 before Eriksen’s injury.
  • Fernandes scored from the spot in that win over the Eagles, with Rashford on the pitch – you can read more about the (confusing) United penalty-taking pecking order in our Scout Notes here.
  • The previously uninvolved Declan Rice (£4.7m) has taken five corners or indirect free-kicks and corners in the last three Gameweeks, assisting from a corner in West Ham United’s draw with Newcastle United.
  • Defender Victor Kristiansen (£4.5m) made his Premier League debut in Gameweek 22 and was immediately on dead-ball duties, taking all three of Leicester City’s corners in their win over Aston Villa.
  • Demarai Gray (£5.3m) has taken the lion’s share of Everton’s set plays this season but wasn’t part of Sean Dyche’s first line-up as Toffees boss. Instead, Dyche turned to wide-midfielders Dwight McNeil (£5.1m) and Alex Iwobi (£5.4m) for dead-ball duties – and the former duly delivered an assist from a corner.
  • Aleksandar Mitrovic‘s (£7.0m) blunder from 12 yards in Gameweek 20 was his third miss from the spot of the season, with Marco Silva saying afterwards that he may reassess who was on penalty-taking duty for Fulham going forward.
  • Douglas Luiz (£4.8m) delivered nine corners in Gameweek 22 alone. He’s joint-10th among midfielders for chances created over the last 10 Gameweeks and joint-second for assists.

Who are folks eyeing up for DGW25 captaincy?

I'm looking at Saka and feel it might be worth taking the hit to bring him in this GW for Martinelli

He isn't the most explosive captaincy pick but probably the most reliable in that GW.

Arsenal had no answer to Everton's pressing game. I'd be very surprised if they don't do something about it (assuming Brentford saw how effective it was) otherwise they could be easily stifled again by a Brentford team who can and do play that way. Especially the effect on wider players; namely Saka/Martinelli.

    A.
    GW23 Bruno> Mahrez
    Gw24 Mitrovic > Darwin
    Gw25 KDB, Shaw > Salah, Tarkowski (-4)

    B.
    Gw23 Shaw > Ake

    Gw25 KDB > Salah

The annoying thing about nketiah is jesus may return by gw25/26.. That's the double and bournemouth h games.

Will cost a negative just to replace nketiah with arsenal midfielder in this case.

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

I think we'll get plenty of warning as Jesus gradually builds up mins off the bench. Think I'll just go Nketiah - Jesus if he's ready in the middle of this great run of fixtures

      1. Hy liverpool
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 10 months ago

That would be the optimum solution.

    2. Tcheco
      • 8 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

Look at it as an easier way of getting Jesus then. Straight swap.

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 6 Years
        2 years, 10 months ago

Well, but they will just share minutes - once Nketiah gets 60 then 30, Jesus the same.

So it's not a straightforward swap.

    3. Conners
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

If Nketiah keeps scoring, who's to say Jesus walks straight back into the team?

Arteta has previously commented about being fair with Nketiah's playing time, and dropping him whilst he's in-form would contradict this.

I actually had a question relating to this, is there any chance Maddison takes over penalties for Leicester? Used to deputise for Vardy when he was out, Tielemans since took over but he's missed his last 2

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

      Sounds like it's likely.

Fixtures aren't really great until GW28/32 anyway so we have time to monitor.

I'm still disappointed Rashford isn't on pens. Thought he might've been.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

I'm pretty happy to punt early, he's generally pretty fixture proof and Leicester look pretty exciting now with Maddison more central and Tete there too.

I'm actually wondering if Rashford and Bruno may rotate pens. Maybe it's still Bruno and he just gave that recent pen to Rashford because he was chasing the record but I'm nit sure

Yeah, possibly! Last on duty over four years ago (missing v Cardiff in Dec 2018). Iheanacho another candidate, having scored in the Community Shield last season, but you do wonder whether his first-team stint will be another brief one and if he'll be back among the subs before you know it.

Cheers Neale, yeah agree about Iheanacho, I've always rated him highly but I just can't understand why he's never first choice for Rodgers. Although I feel like I remember him missing one or two penalties as well!

I think it's a possibility but it depends if Sancho is ready to start PL games again.

    My United prediction

    DDG
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Sabitzer Fred
    Rashford Bruno Garnacho
    Weghorst

Good point on Sancho. Without Antony they might not have the bodies to put Rashy up front.

I hope Sancho starts though. Could be a good game for him to pick up some confidence.

Hugo Lloris set to miss 6-8 weeks with ligament damage after a challenge late in the win against City. Time for Fraser Forster to come in. The Frenchman isn't expected to need an operation at this stage @Alasdair

    Best combo till gw25:

    A: White + Saka + Andreas (in starting 11) (-4)
    B: White + Martenelli + Mahrez (-4)
    C: Lewis + Martenelli + Saka (-8)

If going for a city Mid who is your preference (excluding KDB due to price)? Will be keeping for the foreseeable.

    Mahrez? Grealish?

None seem to be completely nailed atm, especially with incoming UCL games, which City will likely prioritise as usual.

But Mahrez looks the best bet atm.

Mahrez if you must. Would consider ignoring if long term

Similar dilemma here but Kane, Mitoma, Rashford. I’m benching Kane I think

Bruno, although I wouldn't be too surprised if he outscores Mahrez

Looking ahead to next week. What would you do?

Bruno and Mitro to Mahreze and Kane? Or Martinelli to Saka

    2ft / 2.9 ITB

    Ward, Kepa
    Gabriel, Trippier, Bueno, Shaw, Schar
    Martinelli, Bruno, KdB, Odegaard, Rashford
    Mitro, Haaland, Greenwood

Similar problem here - Almiron to Mahrez, or Martinelli to Saka/Odegaard. Don't want to burn a transfer. Mahrez was first choice before hearing Arsenal have two double gameweeks and my Arsenal players at Marti, Eddie and Gabriel.
