We continue to assess the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Gameweek 26 in our Scout Notes series.

Here, we focus on Nottingham Forest’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Everton.

The numbers and graphics you see in this article are taken from our Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data from every single Premier League fixture.

IN-FORM JOHNSON

Brennan Johnson’s (£5.9m) brace made it a ninth successive home match without defeat for Nott’m Forest, as they twice came from behind to earn a draw at The City Ground.

The 21-year-old was excellent, finding the net with two of his four efforts on goal and going close to a hat-trick late on.

Johnson is now up to seven attacking returns from Gameweek 17 onwards – among all FPL forwards, only Erling Haaland (£12.2m), Harry Kane (£11.7m) and Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) have more.

Above: Forwards sorted by attacking returns since the World Cup

Nott’m Forest’s fixtures aren’t great, but they do have a match in Blank Gameweek 28 and follow it up with a very appealing Double Gameweek 29 against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United, so interest in Johnson could pick up.

FOREST HARD TO BEAT AT HOME

Nott’m Forest haven’t lost at home in the league since Gameweek 8, a run that has seen them take 17 points from 27.

They have also scored in 12 consecutive home league matches since a 2-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 4, with Newcastle United’s defenders next to visit The City Ground in Blank Gameweek 28.

GameweekOpponentScore
26Everton2-2
24Man City1-1
22Leeds1-0
20Leicester2-0
18Chelsea1-1
16Crystal Palace1-0
15Brentford2-2
13Liverpool1-0
10Aston Villa1-1

Steve Cooper made just one change from the heavy 4-0 defeat at West Ham United and it came at right-back, with Serge Aurier (£4.4m) returning a week earlier than expected in place of Neco Williams (£3.9m).

Fellow full-back Renan Lodi (£4.3m) also recovered to start, and despite conceding two goals and receiving a yellow card, picked up a bonus point.

GRAY AND DOUCOURE ON TARGET

Everton picked up their first point on the road under Sean Dyche and scored multiple goals in a match for the first time since Gameweek 13.

In the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m), Demarai Gray (£5.3m) led the line, with Neal Maupay (£5.9m) and Ellis Simms (£4.5m) named among the substitutes.

And it was Gray who put Everton ahead, with a terrific spot kick after Dwight McNeil (£5.1m) was fouled.

Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.3m) was also on the scoresheet from a set-piece. Three of Everton’s four goals under Dyche have now come from dead-ball situations.

After the match, an upbeat Sean Dyche said:

“I’m pleased, we’re doing the right things and there’s been real commitment to the cause since I joined. We got in so many good positions today. We know that they have a good record here too. It’s just the details now, we’ve got to stamp out the mistakes but we defended well and countered today. There was a lot of plusses about the performance. We know that we have to win games but you have to re-start and this showed a step forward. This was a really good away performance. It’s a great building block to carry on the journey with.” – Sean Dyche

Still, Everton remain winless in their last nine Premier League away matches, with just two wins in their last 30 fixtures on the road.

Up next for the Toffees is a Premier League home game against Brentford in Double Gameweek 27, before travelling to Chelsea in Blank Gameweek 28.

Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m), meanwhile, missed out because of illness, with Ben Godfrey (£4.3m) deputising at left-back.

They’re a decent team regardless of today - but they’ve not superseded the same team under Ole or Jose who both had good times.

Most expensive squad in the league - the media hype has been ridiculous.

I am not saying it will work but I am showing you how catch up mentality works after the leader plays the wildcard. He has three arsenal. To say gw 27 wildcards are going to be the same as 26 is flawed logic imo

Fair enough. I play the game in a different style, I ignore all my mini leagues and play my own game. Is being influenced by what your mini league leader does the right way to play the game?

                  It's a way.

I usually just target overall position but I am doing so poorly I have to target him.

But I am also going super aggressive off template now to chase overall rank. The content creators gave me an unexpected roadmap as I did not forsee most players laying their cards on the table via the current template. Hope has increased.

I assume everyone who wild carded is sad and being told they have made a huge mistake and everyone who kept Liverpool players is congratulating themselves on being a genius?

Seems reasonable - Liverpool winning 7-0 was pretty much the likely result. Surprised no one was that vocal about it pre deadline

Funnily enough selling Salah, Gakpo and Darwin on wildcard only lost 8 points across the team (the rest only got 16 between them) so pretty happy with the decision.

Surely the only sad ones are those that had 3x Liverpool and opted to sell (and perhaps benched Mitoma/Mac).

I wildcarded and am still relatively happy. Missed a mega-pool haul but doesn't change my plans that much 🙂

I honestly believe content creators are on their way to ruin FPL. I'm not talking about their track record which is really impressive for some. I'm talking about the amount of influence they have on everyone's team. They're probably the main reason we keep seeing these templates. They are indeed nice blokes and very knowledgeable, but I want them gone! Because it is very hard to drop players that everyone own because of them. Even if I'm not taking their advice if I see a player with a very high ownership all of a sudden or a spike in chip usage I'm getting a massive FOMO and end up going with the wagon. Criticize me all you want these guys are on their way to completely take all the fun out.

It's true in many ways. But then I probably wouldn't be as invested in the game without their content.

The ownership point definitely sucks and does sometimes limit your team to 6 players or so. But if you are brave and you go against them you can have massive gains. Like this week.

It makes it annoying that Nick from finance has a good rank literally because he copies the twitter template. But it makes it even sweeter when you smash his smug face season after season

Maybe so many were willing to WC because the game seems to feel a bit more boring this year and wanted to do something proactive. I've saved my WC, but it'll almost be a relief once I've used it. I probably would have quit FPL had it not been for the reset after the world cup. Not sure if I'll bother playing next year.

I'm a content creator and didn't wildcard last week so in GW26 I had quite a differential squad. Found it quite easy to take on board the wonderful array of advice all week and cherry pick those that are applicable to my team.

Also most content creators offer opinions and thoughts on an array of options. So for example last week on Burning Questions and Scoutcast an array of options were put forward for us to choose from. Neither said one way or one set of players are the best.

Then there is more specialist content, like goals imminent which Tom and I do that looks at underlying stats and under the radar players. That offers another piece to the jigsaw, but just one small piece.

The best content creators do just that create interesting content for us to use.

Speaking of great content. Check out the Scoutcast tonight, when Seb, Andy, Rich chat about their wildcards, hope for goals for their teams from Brentford tonight and look ahead to DGW27. As ever they will offer a range of views and have a good chat about fantasy football.

On the flipside, this could also be seen as an advantage. If/when you believe you have an edge over the general content creator consensus your gains should be greater than they would have been in the past. Tour de FPL - stay in that peloton until the right moment and then strike out for the win!

Nice to see you guys on here but I don't think you really need to defend yourselves against this venting of frustration. Its totally riddled with contradictions - ruining the game because everyone has the same team & there's no edge to be found - yet what has actually kicked this off is the shock result of the season that no one saw coming.

Been a bit out of the loop recently but enjoyed your show last year, especially when you were on Seb 🙂

I want to stick up for content creators & say for me you make game more fun.

I like looking at stats & then making my own decisions.

This week I captained haaland when most went Saka.
I captained Rashford when most Haaland.
I didn't TC haaland in GW20 when lot of people did.
        Play your own game

At the end of the day people posting on here complaining are signed up to fantasy football website that gives advice which you're more perfectly happy to digest but you want don't other people to go on YouTube? Seems selfish to me

There's nothing wrong with the content that most put out. What I would say is that given how fluid the game is, you're best listening to different contributors as and when they perform well. It's not about who is the most interesting to listen to.

It's all got to be measured against your team too. I rolled the dice this week with a squad that sets me up well enough with a couple of hits but not optimally for the next few weeks and a big differential in Salah; it worked - this time. It felt like I was against the herd, but for now I feel happy to be in almost a better position than a number of WC'ers as I gathered the same points but have a WC to spare.

Yes eventually. More and more people are becoming tired of them. Anyone who thinks they help the game must be the ones who are happy to not think and just follow. I see them as a huge problem to the game . Imagine how much fun it would be if there was no Ben Crellin for example. I played this game a long time before Mr Crayola himself got his crayons out and started planning everyones gw for a quick buck. Believe me we got through it and the game was more enjoyable than it ever will be again.

The twitter template is annoyingly strong, and far more teams than usual are too similar to each other.

There does appear to be more luck and less skill in FPL this season. The prices were set too low to present much of a challenge, and even on a wildcard it is too easy to afford all the players I want without having to make any compromises on account of price. The Unlimited Transfers also made it too easy to reset teams after the World Cup break, the Wildcards and Free Hit make it easier to negotiate blanks and doubles without having to plan transfers ahead of them, and the Triple Captain and Bench Boost chips are a bit of a lottery, adding to the luck factor.

It's all very fluid at the top of the overall rankings this season and keeps changing, with many big red and green arrows each week. Most of the top thousand have not had high ranks in previous seasons, and many experienced players with strong previous track records have been struggling to keep up with them.

Agree although I don't think they are all as ' nice ' as they come across because most of them are after a handout or a free fiver hidden in the form of a ' coffee' so they have to play the butter wouldn't melt role. I mean a lot of them do it for the enjoyment but the bigger ones are making a killing off of feeding you all utter garbage. I would be happy to keep the ones who actually know something about football but all the stat junkies who hide behind XG because they don't know anything about the game can just go do one. I always said at some point the community will eventually turn on them a while ago. I think that time will soon come.

Need some help. Decided to save WC. Just .1 ITB but got 2FT. Team looks good but feel like I want to get 2-3 doublers. And therefore need to get rid of someone who could generate som cash without backfiring. Suggestions ?

    Kepa

    Shaw - Trippier - Gabriel - Tarkowksi

    Salah - Saka - Rashford - Martinelli

    Haaland - Kane

Ward - Andreas - Bueno -BJ

Basically want to get doublers in for Andreas and Bueno. But need someone who gives a bit of cash.

Salah - Probably ok over next 4 but hard to get rid before bournemouth
Haaland/Kane - hard to get rid
Martinelli - Possibly as many have ditched, so lesser risk, but prefer him as the 3rd arsenal pick for now.

GW27 WC ripped up after Sanchez benching, plus Brighton and Salah's preferences.

    How is this looking ?

    Raya, Ward
    Trippier, Gabreil, Pinnock, Estupiñán, Burn
    Salah, Rashford, Martinelli, McAllister, Mitoma,
    Haaland, Kane, Toney

0.1m ITB for Gabreil to Shaw (before GW29) leaving me with 6 GW27 DGWers, 9 in GW28, and 12 DGWers plus Martinelli, Haaland, and Kane on DGW29 BB. Will FH GW30.

The obvious omission is Saka I can't see an obvious way of squeezing him in before GW30.
