The Gameweek 31 analysis is wrapped up with Scout Notes on Monday’s clash between Leeds United and Liverpool.

FPL notes: Liverpool 1

JOTA AND GAKPO STAKE A CLAIM

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) cemented their places into Gameweek 32 teams on Monday night, each playing a part in two of Liverpool’s six goals in the demolition of Leeds.

Alexander-Arnold has now delivered six assists since the Boxing Day restart, twice as many as any other FPL defender.

And Salah’s brace at Elland Road took him joint-top of the midfielders’ points standings, level with Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m).

For managers considering a Liverpool triple-up, whether on a Free Hit or otherwise, Monday’s win may have upset the apple cart.

Andrew Robertson (£6.8m) was the nominal third Red for many FPL managers before the game, featuring in our own Scout Picks ‘bus team’ and former winner Simon March’s selection, but double-digit hauls from Cody Gakpo (£7.6m) and Diogo Jota (£8.7m) have got some FPL managers thinking.

The ongoing problem is the six-into-three attacking conundrum that Jurgen Klopp now faces on a weekly basis, although it may be some time before Luis Diaz (£7.8m) is fit enough for a start and Roberto Firmino (£8.0m) is winding down his Liverpool career with mostly late cameos.

“Yeah, super important, so Luis is back. He’s now lacking rhythm, which is normal, [and] a bit of sharpness, but that’s normal as well. In training sessions you cannot get there to the final degree of sharpness, so we now try to just help him [get there] step by step back really into the team [and] give him minutes. It’s just nice to see him play to be honest. We missed him so long, so it’s just nice to see him being involved again.” – Jurgen Klopp on Luis Diaz, who made his first appearance in six months on Monday

Darwin Nunez (£8.7m) is the biggest immediate threat to the Salah-Gakpo-Jota frontline, emerging from the bench in West Yorkshire to grab Liverpool’s sixth of the evening.

The hope for Gameweek 32 Free Hitters is that Klopp does exactly what he did on Monday and names an unchanged XI for the visit of travel-sick Nottingham Forest this weekend.

But there are no guarantees of that (a Friday deadline nixes any hope of early team news from Anfield) and, if you’re thinking of bringing these Liverpool B-listers in using normal, permanent transfers rather than as part of a Free Hit, there is even more medium-term uncertainty given the schedule that Klopp’s troops now have:

Above: Liverpool’s upcoming schedule via Legomane, looking at the rest days in between games

Rotation could hit hard in Double Gameweek 34, for example, when there’s a Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday turnaround.

“Yeah, [he was] injured too long, same like Lucho [Diaz], and that’s obviously tricky. Diogo was involved in a lot of top, top moments, won the ball back and set up Mo’s first. Still, you can see there is space for improvement and he has some moments where you can see the rhythm maybe [is] not 100 per cent. The front three played tonight – and we could’ve had a completely different front three – the way they defended tonight, that was an important part of it, because they all can play football, but we need to understand it starts there.” – Jurgen Klopp on Diogo Jota

TRENT’S POSITION – AND THE EFFECT ON ROBERTSON

LEEDS CAPITULATE… AGAIN

Gameweek 29: 0-0 after 35 minutes, lost 4-1.

Gameweek 30: 1-0 up after 45 minutes, lost 5-1.

Gameweek 31: 0-0 after 35 minutes, lost 6-1.

Leeds have looked very decent for the bulk of the first half in recent matches against Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Liverpool, only to fold like a deck of cards in all three games.

Liverpool hadn’t had a shot on target until Gakpo broke the deadlock on Monday night but went on to carve out four big chances and around 2.5 expected goals (xG).

The three capitulations now mean that Leeds have the worst defensive record in the division in terms of goals conceded (60), while only Southampton have kept fewer clean sheets (five).

Fulham are the next team to try and take advantage of that soft underbelly when they entertain the Whites in Gameweek 32.

Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m) at least made it two goals from his last three starts when pouncing on a Liverpool error to temporarily reduce the arrears.

Strange old season for me so far. This week I have just crept into the top 500k. A pretty lowly position on this forum.

But I was ranked 3.9mil going into the world cup, and have enjoyed 13 green arrows out of 15 since then. If I get another 8 green arrows I will be incredibly happy with this season, even though I would probably end up with one of my worst ever ranks!

        Almost identical - I was around 4.6mil in gw14.

        Was even worse in gw10 - 5.1mil!!!

In gwk 8 was 6 mil all my own fault didn't have haaland in my team, being stubborn doesn't work sometimes and definitely cost me still 150 pts behind in ml .
Keep up your green arrow streak

Wow. That was a LOW position!

Yeah I didn't have haaland gw1 and left it until all games had been played before going to buy him for kane, which priced me out as he rose in gw1. I remember that really frustrated me - had to wait a few more weeks and LOTS of haaland goals before getting him in

Seems like a great turnaround, don't mind the others around here. Getting harder to stay with the pack these days so reducing your rank by that much is pretty damn good so well done. I was just over 2m going into the break and have only managed to creep towards 1.2m since then (and that's after having a few green arrows recently)

So the correct answer to 'What is Liverpool's best front 3?' was Jota Gakpo Salah.

Liverpool have badly missed Jota this season. Step up in quality.

Ruling out Diaz on the basis of his 1st 6mins in 6 months? And using Leeds defence as the barometer?

I don't know, I might have been wrong on Darwin, but I don't think this one game answers that question. And although he's improving I'm still skeptical that Gakpo is good enough for where Liverpool really want to be

Not sure about the Leno pick. What are people expecting from a team with 1 win in 6, a keeper with no decent returns in 7 GW’s and no clean sheets since GW24? Leeds are poor but they have a goal in them so I don’t think he is a great pick. Would prefer Martinez/Raya/Palace keeper and I would switch Trippier > Guehi/Moreno.

I have Trippier and Kane in my team this week (FH in 34) and I would swap them out this week if I could. Free Hit is a great opportunity to choose players you might normally choose and avoid the monotony of a Trippier/Kane so I think you are well set.

I also have both in my team too.

Seriously contemplated FH34. But can only get to 9 starters with -4. And those I'll want won't double in gw34 anyway

I think my mind is made up. Done well recently by making decisions early and not switching last minute. Arsenal could annihilate Southampton on Friday but in that case I see points across the side and neither Martinelli or Jesus stands out as the one to captain. Forest really poor away from home, Liverpool picking up in form and they owe Forest one after the game at the City Ground.

Do you think I can max out points in 34 with the team below (and some tweaks) and or better off using my FH in 34? Can field 9 players for 32 and have a FT..

    Raya Kepa
    Shaw Trippier White Mings Veltman
    Mac Mito Saka Marti Maddison
    Kane Haaland Watkins

interesting.. you don't think you can get more out of a FH 34?

I think so. Even dgw 37 is appealing for FH.

But i can field 10 (-4) this week and if salah and co decided to run havoc my season is Over.

yea my worry is salah and pool for 32 but trying to convince myself that the upside of FH34 is better

    Meslier (De Gea)
    Mings Moreno Trippier (Dias Bueno)
Salah (c) Saka Bowen Neves (Grealish)
    Kane Watkins Jesus

Not much I can do about Meslier but at least it’s a back up keeper…

    Gtg?

      I have Meslier too!
He's one of those players that when I look at him in my squad, I'm like "What was I thinking?"

I'm convincing myself to change the FH setup a bit. Initially been thinking about double Pool def and double Arsenal mid. For sure locked are Jesus, Martinelli, Salah and TAA. As Robo been kinda underwhelming, I may go with Jota or Gakpo over him. And for for Arsenal, White appears to be much more consistent right now compared to Ode and Saka.
    Thoughts?
White Martinelli Jesus + TAA Salah Gakpo/Jota?

Yep think most are leaning that way, I'm just stuck on the final mid and bench spots.

      Johnstone
      TAA White Moreno
      Salah Martinelli Eze
      Jesus Jota Watkins
      Iverson Andreas Toti

I'd say Ramsey or Buendia for the mid but wondering if 3up AVL away to BRE is sound thinking. Is the villa wave still rising or is it about to crash?

Yeah that looks good, or Trippier over Moreno, can’t really decide, could punt on Son in mid as well, spread the risk

FH is a chance to ditch highly owned players like Trippier especially when they have a poor fixture!

    How’s this FH?

    Leno
    TAA Trippier Guehi
    Salah Martinelli Saka Eze
    Jesus Jota Watkins

    Neto Billing Ream Henry

I know.... why on earth would they pick Maddison?

Because Leicester'll turn it round, and Maddo will come good.

Leicester did ok in the second half v City and could still have a new manager bounce.

Seems like people are overreacting to LEI's second-half 'revival' against Man City after the hosts had basically packed it in by half-time...

Going to FH 34 so this gw will be rough.

I have: Mitoma Shaw Rashford March and Haaland not playing and don't own Salah.

    A) Shaw to White
    B) March to Eze
    C) Both (-4)
    D) Something else

    Cheers all.

Would you bring in Zouma or Castagne?

The player will be played in GW32, could be played in GW33 due to tricky fixtures and will used on BB in GW34.

    GW32:
    Alisson
    TAA - Trippier - Zinchenko - Zouma/Castagne - Tarkowski
    Salah - Saka - Martinelli
    Watkins - Vinicious

    (Ederson, Haaland, Grealish, Mitoma)

Tarkowski, Zinchenko and Saka/Martinelli will become Estupinan, Shaw and Rashford/MacA/March for GW34 BB.
