Pending no injuries to Man Utd assets tonight and and eye test on Shaw I think I will have both by GW3. Probably Gabriel > Chilwell.

Shearer calling pools transfer strategy 'embarrassing' is a bit rich from a guy whose just seen his beloved club taken over by a nation state which has even allowed them to sell back players at inflated prices (please dont tell me that was St maximan's market value).

My estimation of shearer is close to zero now. he's a spineless pundit who when asked on the last Match of the Day last season by gary lineker was citys treble tainted in any way by a 100 charges hanging over them? and be basically said no, you just have to judge the players (because if he criticises city he criticises Newcastle). yep lets forget how it was they managed to get some of those players onto the pitch in the first place and that the only reason other earlier charges were dropped was because they were 'time barred' (the were still fined 10m euros btw for obstruction).

yes Liverpool could have handled the window better but they cant play Boehly ball and just hoard the best players around until you land on a team that might actually work. there has to be a plan. caicedo would have probabaly fit the bill in that regard that but they got outbid by a man with seemingly no restrictions on fee or lenght of contract(chelsea by the way also have been charged recently for FFP breaches) And Lavia is 19 and barely played any league games so no wonder they balked at 50 million.

gary lineker is a host and still manages to have opinions on things as much as that annoys the beeb. shearer totally avoiding a question on issues that may arise from nation state run football teams can be put down to oh hes just a pundit this is beyond his remit. like or loath someone like chris sutton the man at least says it how he sees it. i just think its really hypocritical of shearer to criticise a club who arent oil rich and run by a state who in all probability sanctioned the murder and butchering of jamal kashoogi 5 years ago. Newcastle and City have no cash restrictions on spending other than staying within FFP rules which even then can be got round.

No reason for Shearer to comment on this unless he personally wants to. He is a football pundit, not a politician.

If you feel passionately about it then contact your local MP, join a campaign group, donate to amnesty international etc.

The only reason you're bringing it up is because it effects your precious football team. You're the real hypocrite here.

Carragher, Neville et al. have basically said that Newcastle have had a rubbish transfer window, all of the signings are mediocre and not good enough for Europe and we will struggle, probably finishing 7th/8th.

It's not 'a bit rich', Shearer has absolutely nothing to do with our transfer strategy and is fully entitled as a pundit to comment on the transfer strategies of others.

St Maximin is one of the closer to market value signings the Saudi league has made. £12m for Henderson is the real joke, he is 33 and doesn't add any value to the league. St Max is just 26 and is one of the most exciting players to watch in world football. He is perfect for that league. Comments on St Max being fair market value from the likes of Liverpool fans are laughable.

Don't take pundits comments so seriously, they're all fans at the end of the day and massively struggle to hide their biases.

inflated? age has nothing to do with that saudi league, henderson actually won things in his career and was a club captain when they won the league and champions league and is and england international. st maximan in fits and bursts wowed the crowd when he wasnt on the physio table but check his goals and assists and tell me he's worth that price. lets be real here. 33m? not a chance

          You're missing the point completely.

He will get goals and assists galore at that level.

The point is he is exciting to watch, he will make people tune in, make games enjoyable.

          Henderson won't

Why would Newcastle's takeover have anything to do with Shearer's comments on Liverpool hahahaha this is just typical 'how can we compete' whining mentality, despite the club spending £100m on midfielders and offering £111m for another one.

Shearer's a pundit, so it's literally his job to talk about football and express his opinion as he sees fit.

To call you up on "has even allowed them to sell back players at inflated prices (please dont tell me that was St maximan's market value)"...

Firstly, they've sold one player, not players. Secondly ASM was 26, he was bought as a player who'd done little in the French league (other than show some glimpses of potential) for about £16.5m when the transfer market was less nuts than now.

He's been sold to the Saudi league, with years left on his contract, for £26m. He'd played over 111 games for a Prem side.

I'm not saying he's worth far more than that, he's amazing on his day and absolutely anonymous on other days... but to suggest that his market price has been inflated is absolutely insane. While a lot of NUFC's practises will need examining in the months and years ahead, I actually think they've very deliberately undervalued that. Any other club could have expected to get at least £10m more IMO.

I read he was assessed during the break but he realized he couldn’t continue.
I could keep but with Zink coming back, his game time could be challenged. Chelsea has better fixtures beyond the west ham game.
For me Timber was a ‘short time player’ and my plan was to replace with a Chelsea asset around GW3. I might do this for this round then.

Yeah he's not a bad option by any means (well, except the obvious injury-proneness). I just didn't expect Poch to play with WBs as he's been using a back 4 with Chilwell playing just like yesterday & RB more reserved. So I'm probably leaning Jackson if I get a 2nd Chelsea player for GW3/4

If you want to be aggressive then do it if Bruno hauls tonight. If he blanks then more people will come off, but a decent score will make those owners reluctant to sell. The aggressive move is to sell after a good score.

And what happens the following week when Bruno is at home to Forest and Diaz is away at Newcastle? You gonna be aggressive and switch back again?

Too much rotation for Diaz and at the very least early subs, he's also not on set pieces. The Bournemouth game is being overblown a bit. They're not Luton.

My gf is on 95 + Rashford and no chip played! No price point spreadsheets, no YouTube videos of what Kevin De Bruyne ate for breakfast, no games watched. Just good old fashioned pick a team in 5 mins the day before it starts - the way it should be really.

    Current team

    Pickford
    Gabriel Stones* Estupinan
    Mitoma Rashford Saka Richarlison
    Alvarez Pedro Haaland

    Subs: Turner, Beyer, Bell, Baptiste

Thinking of Stones & Rashford > Chilwell & Salah would still leave me with £3.0m ITB - is that stupid for -4?

Am I the only one who's kinda surprised by this? From what I've seen from him at WH and during WC for Brazil, he wasn't really screaming "Man City player and worth 70m+". Might just be me, but I don't really see it with him.

Market is absolutely on its arse - we've got (multiple) DMs going for British transfer fees, so it's hardly surprising an attacking mid would fetch this price. Especially when the player is a Brazilian international, the season's already started and the buying club have infinite money.

Players who look undervalued for me currently :

Alvarez - KDB injured, a short term bet for 4-5 weeks with those fixtures he could get 30 - 40+ points from week 3-7

Pedro - pen taker at 5.5 mil for an attacking side speaks for itself. Only United away looks a fixture issue in the coming weeks.

Richarlison - if Spurs dont buy a striker, he will make a mockery of his price. Again people over react on one game, he was 1 inch from getting the cross that Romero scored from.

Liverpool also look like the old Klopp team who score but cant defend

    - So Salah could be a capable of double digit returns in any fixture. Newcastle away will actually suit him i reckon, playing more central on the break.

Almost nobody looking at him but Antoine Semenyo is a snip at 4.5m. Really low ownership, your 4.5m is safe and his price will rise with time. If you need a 3rd forward you don’t intend to play, then look no further. He is also a real handful, and going to give tired defenders nightmares in stoppage time.

Issue is there are 3-4 strikers already at value

        Pedro Alvarez Haaland

Even Jackson could be decent but at 7mil is hard to take over Alvarez for me.

I think Alvarez will play 80min a game the next 4-5 weeks

Mahrez gone and KDB injured means he will play support striker, AM or wide right

Look at that Spurs backline. Rashford is definitely a option for the armband and Onana is getting an assist, guaranteed.

    1. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
      • 5 Years

I don't think that's so relevant seeing as Brentford spent entire phases of the game with 11 camped deep (Spurs second goal felt inevitable as BFC just sat back for a full 5 mins waiting for HT, including all 11 in the box at one point - in open play).

Plus Micky VdV is built for getting back and stop Rashford/breakaways.

Although it was a factor for me going Rashford over Bruno - he could still do well but not (c) for me.

        • 11 Years

I wasn't being massively serious but I do think Spurs' back-line is incredibly vulnerable, and they will be encouraged to attack at home, which would be great for our transitional play. It would be extremely naive of them to go as gung-ho as they did against Brentford, but Emerson and Udogie are not defensively sound, the CBs are questionable, and the new keeper has a case of flap-itis.

We're hoping to bring in one more defender, then we will pretty much have 2 players for each position. If we continue to play like we did on Saturday the sky is the limit, but some tough competition in the league this year.

Anyone thinks Diaz seems to be most nailed Pool attacker after Salah? Looks like Jota will be main striker, Gakpo interchanging with him and playing at 8, Nunez being more of a impact sub, but Diaz having left wing for himself

I do like Díaz for this season, ideal playing on the left and score goals so I think he will be the main player for them in that position.

Probably true, he's a top player but I still think he can be rotated as klopo can use both Jota and Nunez LW. I think Diaz Gakpo Salah is their best 3 but they can't play the mid they played against Chelsea, was wide open.

I was just going for a spread of players across teams that I liked. Diaz/Jota was a 50/50 call and I knew Darwin wasn’t going to be a starter initially but I think he will have a good impact. I have Wilson also bit away to City so I will bench him this week.
