Who do you think will score more points in GW1-3?

    A) Johnson (vs lei, EVE, new)
    B) Szoboszlai (vs ips, BRE, mun)

Also potentially on a share of set pieces and playing central closer to CF

I've got Son already and no Salah.
However, something tells me Spurs will haul under Ange in GW1&2.

Don't think we have the info to state Johnson is "more nailed" than Szoboszlai under new manager

I disagree Tony - with respect obviously.
Liverpool are a complete unknown at the moment whereas Spurs are far more settled and as it stands I believe Johnson will start, Szoboszlai may well but we just don't know - so as of today I stand by Johnson is more nailed

That's the problem - when you mention "on his day" when discussing a player, that's acknowledgement of an issue with consistency, whatever the cause.

yeah would be good, but not sure how suited he would be to the system

but they should be targeting a left footed LW. Thats if Postegoclou still wants his wingers to hit the byline. And of course a striker

They are in the hunt for Eze and Toney. I don't think Palace will sell Eze, but if Spurs get Toney then Son perhaps goes back to LW, however whether he would get to the byline is debatable.

Alright new strategy, is it viable?

First 1-3 GWs, no FTs used, 2 saved. Go into the season with a squad that is for the first 3 GWs. Something like:

    Pickford
    Gabriel White TAA
    Odegaard Mbeumo Bruno Son Gordon
    Wood Isak

    4.0 Muniz VDV Munoz

if injury happens so be it and cover from the bench. Playing the fixtures

GW3-4 first Int. Break, hit WC. Had 3 GWs to see new manager set-ups and by GW4 all players heavily involved in Summer tournaments are back and firing again.
GW4-5 save another FT. Just WC'd, team is good enough to go first 1 more GW
Head into GW6 with 4 FTs in back pocket. Essentially earning a chance to play another WC with 1 hit.
Lets you attack first 3 GWs, WC early after seeing who is starting the season on form and get them in, then gives the insurance of almost another WC with 4FT from GW to GW when needs be.

Think that I might have at least nailed two of my squad. By picking the first choice goalkeepers from Brentford and Liverpool, you get the following games up to the international break:

    Home to Crystal Palace
    Home to Brentford
    Home to Southampton
    Home to Notttingham
    Home to Bournemouth
    How to West Ham
    Home to Wolves
    Home to Chelsea
    Home to Ipswich

Woudn't it 🙂 Flekken is a god send at 4.5 but Alison is pricey at 5.5. Way I see it though, those two up to the international break means that there's no need to use a transfer at all really (unless perhaps a week 1 unuspected rotation or major injury), which can only be a good thing....

I dont think so, I did some analysis on the goalkeeper performance for the last few seasons and unlike outfield players, there was a much stronger swing in performance to goalkeepers at home.

I don't being home/away would make up for the gap in quality between them as fantasy options. It certainly wouldn't be worth the extra .5 invested in any case

Well, that's the game, you get to make your own choices. Dont forget though, Flekken was in the top 5 goalkeepers last season. Obvious some notable ones had injuries such as Ederson and Alisson, but that's still not to be sniffed at....

            1. Ze_Austin
              • 7 Years

Arrange by points per match, and Flekken was one of the worst among regulars

Only 4 GKs available this season started 38 games last season, with Flekken the 5th for starts with 37

Points totals for keepers last season can be ery misleading, imo

Indeed - I’m not suggesting taking Flekken as a season long set and forget - I’ll be wildcarding at the international break. If you look at his performance at home, against average teams, it’s a rosier picture.

Palace, Liverpool, Southampton, Man City, Spurs in their first five? They don't feel like average attacks...

Only sniff of a CS I'm getting there is Southampton, but Brentford defence was so shockingly bad last season that I stopped expecting clean sheets even in easy games, with the hope being attacking returns from the likes of Henry and Reguilon. They still don't have full backs back, but maybe they're looking at that in the transfer window

Not much faith in those starting fixtures for me, tbh. While I'd rather go to the likes of Areola, Sa (not for me) and Muric for reliable save points

I think you’re missing the point - with Alisson and Flekken, you’re first games are:

                    Home to Crystal Palace
                    Home to Brentford
                    Home to Southampton
                    Home to Notttingham
                    Home to Bournemouth
                    How to West Ham
                    Home to Wolves
                    Home to Chelsea
                    Home to Ipswich

My point is that the defence ahead of Flekken is so unreliable that he's among the worst performing GKs, making rotating him in less likely to bring more points than just starting that other keeper in all games

There isn't some reliable upside to Brentford's defending or Flekken's save count that makes him more appealing than Alison's save points in those tough Liverpool games

And that’s the point - everybody gets to choose based on whatever they want to. I’m basing my decision on the data from the last three years, you’re choosing your goalkeepers on your subjective view of each team - that’s the fun of the game, you get to do what makes most sense to you.

Of course, I always an advocate of making your own judgements rather than following the crowd. That said, Flekken was pretty awful last season statistically, however Brentford are historically very good at conceding lower than average xG shots. If Flekken improves then he'll do well I'm sure, but his save percentage last season was significantly lower than Alisson in any of his seasons for Liverpool. Just worth considering, I think

But again, that’s the point. He didn’t have a flat an even distribution of scores. When at home against average people, he did really well, when away at top teams, he got battered. I wouldn’t choose him if he was against top teams, but for 3 or 4 games where he’s against lower teams, he could be a great shout

Even if Flekken does as well as you expect, he would still need to outscore Alisson by enough points (in the few games you play him) to justify the extra .5, which could have been reinvested elsewhere in your squad. That seems highly unlikely to me

    Starting draft:

    Areola, Turner
    Burn, Munoz, Pau, Quansah, Barco
    Son, Foden, Gordon, CHO, Garnacho
    Haaland, Isak, Muniz

    Thought process:

Goalkeeper: I think Areola will still get the nod in goal, despite the arrival of Foderingham.
Defence: Clean sheet potential for Newcastle, Palace, Villa, and Liverpool during the first several GWs.
Midfield: Son could get off to great start in first two GWs. After that it looks difficult for Spurs, but will use that time to assess Palmer and Saka - there's £0.5m spare if needed. I'm a little unsure on Salah, his performance levels have dropped over the last year or two and it's just a matter of time before that shows in his numbers - we're also yet to find out what influence Slot's tactics will have on this.
Attack: Haaland should benefit from a good rest, and could run riot against Chelsea and Ipswich. Isak has also benefited from a break. Jury is out on Muniz, great performances second half of last season but I predict a very tough season for Fulham after the exit of Palhinha and Willian. Muniz could be their talisman.

I think he will for the first few GWs, momentum is on his side. Will have an advantage over Konate and Gomez in terms of match sharpness by GW1, and he also had a good run of starts towards the end of last season.

For your A combo, Ramsey could be an inspired pick if he starts regularly but I doubt he will.

Looking at a third Striker(Other two are Isak and Muniz) and trying to decide between Mateta and Solanke. Do we think Mateta will go right into the lineup or will he be eased in depending on how far France goes in the Olympic Games?

Two LBs I'll probably have at some early point this season, but am reluctant to start with: Davis and Maatsen

True, but I’m convinced it’s safer to start with him, if it doesn’t work out you just sell them, easier than buying them trying to stop the gap increasing

Picking the highest owned players doesn't guarantee you a good start. The game is about points not ownership.

I know but if you have them and they do bad that it is status quo because most others have done bad, less upside yes but far less downside risk owning them

Are there players you would pick ahead of them though? Or are you picking out of fear?

If anything, Gabriel is a better pick than Saliba anyway. Bigger threat from set pieces.

    Thoughts on this Draft ?

    Flekken
Gabriel / Gvardiol / TAA (Faes, Konsa)
Eze / Salah / Gordon / Szoboszlai (Nkunku)
    Toney / Isak / Havertz

Have you noticed with drafting, you are actually always 0.5m short of your ideal team, and try to settle on combinations that satisfy the sacrifices.

It's like FPL know the optimal team and it is 100.5m in value at the start haha

I seem to recall they did something like what they did under Glasner 12 months earlier with Hodgson. Are they just slow starters? The attacking data for the season as a whole wasnt great. Eze is probably still good value at 7m regardless if he stays fit and that is the big if. Mateta needs to prove hes that good this season for me, felt like it was a bit of a streaky thing with him, surprised hes more than Eze. Defence is still fine at 4.5m but not sure on the 5m full backs because I dont think they'll outscore Guehi and Andersen by much if at all.

Cover is such a poor choice. Pick players that you feel will score the most points- Nobody covers for Salah, except Salah
