New whipping boys I reckon. You always worry about the possession-based teams coming up.

Ipswich are a bit more direct, so I'd back them to adapt quicker.

Agree with whipping boys sentiment, RM's comments after 0-2 defeat to Oxford reminded me of Scott Parker defeatism.
He's going to take some spankings and he knows it, playing out from the back with either GK they have is suicide.

Isak (C) and Mbeumo/Toney (C) in week 3 on this basis alone.

Yeah, I'm not convinced McCarthy is up to it. I thought the same reading those Oxford comments.

I've got Isak + Gibbs-White in my current draft, just not sure I can find a spot for Mbeumo.

I'm quite heavy on Brentford because I think my strategy will be FH 2 and WC 4, possibly with a BB in week 1 or 3. Would have preferred Toney leaving (in FPL at least) so Mbeumo claims pens, but Igor injury will make this less likely.

MGW is the player I said I would have this year, towards the end of last season. Went under the radar a bit. Jota Silva's arrival might make CHO or Wood riskier than I would like, so might go back to MGW.

Isn't Jota Silva a winger? Why does he make Wood riskier?

I'm not asking this as a form of disagreement. Just trying to find out more, as I don't know so much about him or Forest

Forest blurb said he can play anywhere across the front, transfermarkt backs that up.
transfermarkt also shows that his output is far stronger as a RAM. Jota Silva only 2 goals in 10 cf appearances, but the last 7 games of the Portuguese league season he was played up top.

I’m down to these 2 final draft structures, which do you prefer please?

    A)

    Areola
    Gvardiol | Porro | MYKOLENKO
    Salah | SON | GORDON | Mgw | Andreas
    HAALAND | MUNIZ

    B)

    Areola
    TRENT | Gvardiol | Porro
    Salah | PALMER | FODEN | Mgw | Andreas
    ISAK | SOLANKE

Palmer/Foden in B could easily be Son/Saka but it’s about which structure really, and who to forfeit out of Haaland and Isak.

    Thanks guys!

Halland is not an essential pick for GW 1 considering he is a FTB(flat track bully), also chelsea's defence is more or less set for past one year so can't predict halland hatrick or something in GW 1 . so keep funds for halland from GW 2 by bringing in Havertz for SOLANKE.

      1. Scapegoat Salah

Thanks appreciate it, are you saying A then with Isak instead of Haaland, but funds in the bank to get Haaland?

        1. fantasyeleven91

Nope B looks better on paper because of SOLANKE's GW 1 fixture. But no need to rush into Foden, Palmer in GW 1. Also you can do away with Porro and choose good 4.5m options from crystal palace and free funds for Halland in GW 2.

My present draft : (still confused about goalkeepers)

          Leno

          TAA | Gvardiol | faes/vestergaard

Salah | Eze | Mgw | Dewsburry Hall

          Havertz | Isak | Armstrong

Chelsea are a team that qualify for flat-track bullying. Dodgy new keeper, new CB, James suspended - their defence is anything but set. They're a shambles

    2. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…

A for sure - Chelsea could hardly be described as defensively sound. Haaland could destroy them.

      I don't like B -
Foden will definitely be eased in at the start of the season Pep said so.
Palmer - will he start the season? Will a change in style mean that he will still be the Chelsea FPL darling? Son is a better option IMO.

Havertz now gets a point less per goal and has effectively lost 22 points off of his total from his clean sheets alone.

It’s a massive point drop off. Larger than the gain that will be made from bonus points

I do want to but it would mean sacrificing Haaland or Isak, I think my mind is made up now.

Hoping for another Palmer-esque player this season I can jump on haha

I think it’s a case of using pre season purely for that spot.
Do need minutes and for them to start every week though, which Soucek should offer if I go cold on the idea of Willock

Think Newcastle midfield will be Bruno, Joelinton & Willock, with Longstaff & Tonali rotating

What position is he going to start in Howe's 4-3-3?

One of the central 3 I think along with Bruno G and Joelinton I think.

May share minutes with Longstaff I guess

Got a lot of advice not to include Havertz so I’ve upgraded him to Odegaard, what do you think?

    Raya
    Gvardiol Porro Mykolenko
    Salah Son Odegaard Eze Nkunku
    Watkins Isak

This is the reply I had.

I'll be honest, I don't get the Havertz hype...
He has had back to back 30 starts per season. Let's say he replicates his form from last year again this year... (important stats for what I'm going to discuss; G13, CS22)

Moving from Midfield to Forward is going to cost him 13 points from goals and 22 points from clean sheets this year, that's a 35 point reduction. That drops him to 145 points (assuming he maintains the same # of bonus points). That means for 0.5M more than Nicholas Jackson you would've got 3 extra points or he'd have less points that JWP (6.5) got for West Ham last year (146).

I just don't get it, please feel free to let me know what I'm missing? I just think for 0.5M more you can have Odegaard who has scored 186 and 212 in his past two seasons and is the captain."

If he replicates his form UP FRONT, he'd be on for 25G and 22A (based on 38 starts), which would land him 244 points, not including bonus. Obviously this is all 'what if' and to be taken with a massive pinch of salt, but it's not hard to see why people think he'll do well if he keeps his place as a 9.

I think he’ll do well but with Jesus about anything like 38 starts is unlikely

Hence why I said to take with a pinch of salt. Either if he only starts 30 games, that's nearly 200 points if he keeps that form up. Isak got 175 last season and people are calling him essential - Havertz is cheaper, less injury-prone and playing for a better team, so the appeal is obviously there.

I get that mate but for 0.5 more you get mids that can score well over 200

No midfielder priced 8.5 or under scored 200 last season, never mind "well over."

Can see Merino taking up quite a bit of Odegaard's minutes and Bruno isn't hitting anywhere near that unless we get gifted like 12 pens

                IF.
IF he gets constant starts up front.
                IF he gets 38 starts.
IF he keeps up what appears to be a purple patch.
IF Jesus & Trossard don’t fill in for him.
IF he isn’t played further back.

He loses a point per goal this year compared to last year and loses all clean sheet points (which was 22 last year) before a ball is even kicked.

Don’t think he’s worth it over Ode, personally.

You could make a list of ifs about any player in the game. The whole point of the post was that Havertz ended the season playing striker, and is obviously Arsenal's best option there unless they buy someone.

IF he gets constant starts up front - Jesus is injury-prone and a worse option
IF he gets 38 starts - obviously won't because of injuries/rests but will start most games (30 last season)
IF he keeps up what appears to be a purple patch - the "purple patch" lasted 3 months
IF Jesus & Trossard don’t fill in for him - again, Jesus is crocked and Trossard will probably play off the left
IF he isn’t played further back - see your first bulletpoint
