The only way I could get Saliba/Gabriel or Saka is to lose one of Havertz or Isak to Pedro. Which one would you sell to do this or leave both and go with Arsenal defence and Saka?

I'm on option 1 below, but can see the merit of option 2

        2. Raya Saka Havertz

Saka priority over defence especially if you could get Raya as excellent cover

I'd ditch Havertz to spread the risk a bit?

At least let Isak play today first.

I'd be happy that Havertz can cover Saka especially if Arsenal don't sign a striker before the gameweek 3 deadline.

Being red flagged for injury apparently increases the threshold for price falls, but not necessarily full protection like in the case of leaving the PL.

Do you rate Villa defence that highly? I find even though they perform well to get results they don’t have that shut out, no goals conceded mentality.

I don't rate Villa as highly as Arsenal or City. I do rate them more highly than Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton, Fulham, Palace, Wolves, Bournemouth etc. I think they are similar (maybe not quite as good as) Liverpool.

But I caveat that with my opinion that Villa will be a team to target once the CL kicks in. They don't have the squad to cope with the CL.

I’d say Mateta didn’t pass the eye test yesterday, his stats were ok, .39xg .27xa but not great either considering playing at home. Muniz looked better as in he got into good positions and had 7 shots worth .58xg, but he missed them all including a golden headed chance from a peach of a cross from Robinson (both of whom I have in my 11 ofc).
Based on current evidence so far I’d say its the Brighton fwds we ought to be looking at.

Non Haaland owners, how are we feeling this morning? I’ve somehow ended up with a green arrow, which is a very pleasant surprise! Still have 4 to play too, including Salah (c). If he does something it could end up being a pretty great gameweek, which seemed completely out of the question after yesterday’s hat trick!

    1. diesel001
      • 9 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

So far, Haaland hasn't been 'essential'. There are combinations that are keeping pace with Haaland plus £4.5m e.g., Son and Saka, Smith-Rowe, Gibbs-White, TAA, Arsenal defence double up or triple-up. It needs some more players to join the pack to keep that up (e.g., Solanke, Fernandes, Eze, Gordon, Isak, Palmer)

    2. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

Expected a hat trick. My fear was 4+ returns, which were very possible

There will be GWs such as these. Haaland is at that price for a good reason

The task without him is to spend the funds on higher performing assets than the players Haaland owners have

I think this season will come down how the cheap guys play. If we get a truly emerging 4.0/4.5 defender and some excellent 5.0/5.5 attackers, Haaland teams win

I didn't go down that path because I couldn't predict this season's Palmer or Doherty based on what I knew before GW1

      1. Fat Frank
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

I was the same, also expected a hat trick and prepared for one but feared worse, relief seeing he was on a brace after just 16 minutes too!

Son saved my day! Salah (C) to go, plus Trent, Isak and Nkunku, on 43 currently.

As a Haaland owner, I also still have quite a few to play, like Isak, Trent and Jota.
My main fear is that Jota will be injured soon and I might switch to team Salah now the IPS game is behind us. Alternative is Szoboszlai in for Jota and using funds to get Watkins. Apparently I’m one of the few naive enough to believe in Jolly Ollie.

For this week I intend to roll, and with 15 active players (including rotating 4.5 goalkeepers), my intention is to roll until I mini-wildcard in GW6 when hordes are using their chip. But unforeseen developments could cause me to compromise.

I like the flexibility offered by being able to roll FTs, but I'll adapt to the team I have

No changes unless they seem obvious (Man City attacker vs Ipswich) or forced (dropped, red-flagged). Roll as many as possible, then make wholesale changes for fixture swings. Like reducing my Newcastle triple-up for GW6

Hard to improve decision making. Decision making in football is instinct-based. How can you improve your instinct if you are playing matches every week where you rely on instinct and can't focus on making the slow deliberate changes required to improve your instinct.

I've seen a few tools used to improve decision-making, like a company who makes a VR headset app that simulates decision-making moments and gives the player/coaches feedback on the player's vision and decision

Here I agree. However, you can train correct patterns in different situations. Just like learned reactions. It'll take time though.

His decision making or his team mates lack of awareness? I think it's an integration thing, United need a settled team to play for a few weeks and get to gel. But half the time the players don't make the runs expected and everyone looks daft.

He delayed some few passes which would have been big chances and made a few mishit passes as well. Needs to improve on decision but as you said, more gametime will help

    My team;

    Sels Ward
    Saliba Porro Munoz Barco Harwood
    Saka Doku ESR Jota Rogers
    Haaland Havertz Isak

    1ft 1M itb

Did a mistake if bringing in Doku for Gordon and having watched City, Doku won't get many points or at least be consistent with Grealish also lurking.

    What will you here?

    1. Is Munoz a concern?
    2. Should I give Diku few more gw's?
    3. Who between Isak/Havertz should maje way for Watkins? Is it even worth a transfer?
    4. Any other ideas/recommendations welcome

a lot of solid options at 7. really like minteh, very forwards and attacking. others may be Bruno G with tonali back in the mix/ gordon/ eze.

    I’m thinking of bringing Watkins:
    Lei(a), Eve(h), Wol(h), Ips(a), Mun(h), Ful(a), Bou(h)
Surely Villa will score around 15 goals in this fixture run and Watkins can get 6-7 returns imo

Players who don't score pts end up not scoring pts in the foreseeable future. Players who score pts, end up scoring even more pts in the foreseeable (Welbeck). Law of moving averages. I'd wait for Watkins to score before moving him in. He looks off of it.

Eye test, Rogers looks a class above for Villa atm and only 5m. I know you can't cover attacking players, but I wouldn't want to pass that up (unless you fancy the double up with Watkins - who admittedly does look well off the pace atm).

Congrats on the Quansah solution 🙂

I'd wait for some info on Cash's injury though. Villa's 4.0 RB might be an even better solution if Cash is out for months rather than weeks

This is shaping up to be an excellent season. So many options and so many tough decisions. You can't have em all.

Add in the rolling of 5FT, less double game weeks (hopefully), a new UCL format, BPS changes and the mystery chip (whatever that may be) and it feels like there are a whole load of new strategies available.

Thought about wildcarding this week and it's so tough. Love it. That said, we're probably only a Haaland/Salah injury away from a template again.

Solanke might play in GW3. Maybe sell if he's confirmed out

I'd also note that the striker and GK you're buying for a hit face each other. Good chance that one of them affects the other's ability to pay back the hit. I get the idea of transfers being long-term and hedging your bets, but one/both of these moves can be delayed by one GW. Henderson can get one more week against the out-of-sorts Chelsea, imo. Take the save points and then switch for free after?

Morning all. Just wondering what you'd advise to do with the following team:

    Sanchez (4.0)
    TAA Robinson Lewis (Livramento Greaves)
    ESR Doku Saka Jota Eze
    Havertz Haaland Muniz

    2 FTs. 1.5m ITB.

I feel like I've been very unlucky so far with Eze's disallowed goal and Lewis hitting the bar from a Doku assist 🙁 On the subject of Doku, it's him I want to shift the most due to rotation fears.

Is Sels the standout 4.5 keeper? NFO have continued their defensive focus, with very low xGC in the first two (0.22 and 0.45). Good fixtures.

I might so Henderson to Sels for an unusual GK transfer to stave off the WC.

I thought Sels was one of the works GKs last season, due to goal prevention stats

I don’t disagree. Definitely trust ARS defence more.

Just wondering if that 0.5 saving is worth it along with considering the Villa fixture run.

Also contemplating if it’s worth having an ARS defender instead of Raya blocking that 3rd spot…what was the total points differences last season?
