I've considered this for my team but I don't know if juggling cheap forwards is worth 2ft. You just know Solanke or DCL will get a goal or two over the next games if you sell them. Maybe choose the one you hate most and sell him.

When looking at the premiums for captaincy picks in GW 10-19 (end of the year), Haaland doesn't feature heavily.

There are good cheap enablers for MIDs and FWDs which allows folks to pick 3 from Haaland/Salah/Palmer/Saka and have a balanced and robust team.

Is this GW a good opportunity to go against Haaland until GW18?

Do folks agree with the captaincy list (only premiums)?

    GW10 - Salah (vs BHA)
GW11 - Son (vs IPS) or Haaland (vs bha)
GW12 - Salah (vs sou), Palmer (vs lei) or Haaland (vs TOT)
    GW13 - Saka (vs whu)
    GW14 - Palmer (vs sou)
    GW15 - Salah (vs eve)
    GW16 - Saka (vs EVE)
    GW17 - Palmer (vs eve)
GW18 - Haaland (vs EVE), Salah (vs LEI) or Saka (vs IPS)
GW19 - Haaland (vs lei), Palmer (vs ips) or Son (vs WOL)

Yes on paper it seems a fine strat.

But as you said, there are good cheap enablers which mean that having Haaland doesn't actually restrict your team very much. It's basically Salah vs Haaland and I'm not seeing what the extra 2.5m from Salah over Haaland gets you. That plus the opportunity cost of using 2 transfers to restructure and it becomes quite a difficult move to justify.

If on WC in GW10, saved 3+ FTs, or if you're planning WC12, I think I would definitely do it because you could utilize the entire 2.5m savings across the whole squad but otherwise, I think sticking with Haaland is the sensible play.

Food for thought with those Good points you bring up:
        - what does 2.5m difference give you?
        - the number of transfers required to pivot between Haaland and Salah and factor in how robust the rest of your squad is with future transfers

Like you state, lack of captaining Haaland will probably lead me to transfer him out after Brighton.
Go big in midfield and reasses after gw18.

As long as I dont see a clearly cpt fixture for him like Sou at home, i dont mind going without.

Haaland plays bou, NFO and cpl in GW10, 14 and 15. Feels like confirmation bias to exclude those options to make your point. If you include only one of those games, he features as much as Salah in your list, and more than the others.

This such a long-term plan that I think you need to widen the net to account for potential change. For example, Everton are already tightening up defensively, so they could be one of the best defences come GW19, or they could regress to their poorer early season form. Planning to captain against them 3-4 times in a row from GW15-18 could go well, but it's not an obvious move for me, and could easily fail too. At the very least, you have to consider Haaland against cpl in GW15 at this early stage IMO.

No. But unless the game is against Liverpool or Arsenal, he's going to have the highest goalscoring odds every week and it's hard to bet against him while his data is overwhelmingly better than other players in the league.

It's nothing to do with the cost or being fixture proof. He's just the most likely to score in any given week.

It's basically that simple. Most of us C the player that is most likely to score.

So when you have a player like Haaland(who's a scoring machine) and plays for City who create chances for fun, the decision is often simple(maybe not the correct outcome, but can't predict the future).

Pretty much. I captain whoever I think has the highest ceiling and it's always Haaland. Would captain Salah this week if I had him.
If I didn't think he has the highest ceiling over a spell of games I wouldn't own him.

I feel like with the cheap forward discussion there's a lot more focus on fixture difficulty than on the actual ability and underlying data of the forwards - simply because it's identify which fixture runs are easier than it is to figure out which forward is better.

From what I've researched so far, Raul's stats and underlyings are just straight up better than the Wolves boys - Cunha, Strand-Larsen. He's creating more chances, he's shooting more in the box and he might be on pens after Pereira missed.

The fixtures are good for 5 weeks too at least. We really don't have to look further ahead than 5 weeks imo. Yes Wolves' fixtures are better for longer, but as a team they are unconvincing and their data is worse.

According to Scouts data - Raul’s stats aren’t straight up better than Cunha’s. Cunha has more assist potential.

They are. In the last 6 weeks since Jimenez started, he is ahead of Cunha in every key stat.

Higher xG, xA, more shots, more shots in the box etc.

The only argument is that Cunha has had slightly tougher fixtures than Jimenez.

Not sure I’d say slightly tougher. And doesn’t the much lower xG speak to Cunha out performing that stat where as Raul is not as much? Cunha has more involvement and better BPS and Ffs tool rates him slightly better.

Haaland is over priced at £15.4m. I would urge anyone who wants to sell him do it if you have a hunch it’s the right way to go. All the stats tell you what everyone already knows. There isn’t anything clever about seeing xG stats. Haaland is a great goalscorer you aren’t a bad fantasy football player if you don’t pick him and you aren’t a good one if you do. So many different routes.

Hi - in a bit of a conundrum and could do with an outside perspective - to frame this, I am a very patient/conservative FPL player. Very rarely take hits, don't switch players like pairs of socks and like to back my choices.

More often then not, this leads to relative FPL success (used to be top 10k finishes, but these days somewhere between 10k and 80k).

Sometimes though...I am too stubborn. My current team still has its chips and I have carried many of these players from start of the season:

    Raya

    Trent, Porro, Timber

    Salah, Fernandes, Mbeumo, Eze

    Isak, Havertz, Solanke

Fabianski, Rogers, Mykolenko, van den Berg

Players I am starting to waiver on are the two spurs lads, but equally the next two fixtures are good. I think if I was to move off Porro, a boring player like Konate would be my preferred choice!

Solanke on paper has what I like in a pick, minutes and plays for a good team.

Solanke, Fernandes and Eze are players I think given time, may still come good. But not sure if that is now stubbornness speaking?

You've picked quality players overall but the downside of playing patient/conservative is that you plow through bad fixtures and poor runs of form with players that have historic success.

This is particularly notable with you sticking with Isak, Fernandes, Eze and Solanke.

These are players that are nailed with good underlyings in past seasons, but they haven't had the best run of games fixture and form wise.

I'd look to find a balance in trying to get ahead of the curve and staying patient. Decide on which players you feel have lower potential and move them on for a player that has a good run of games and showing more promise.

      1. @Bryan
        • 16 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

Thanks and true, there is a fine balance. Where I get stuck, is the next new 'must have' comes up and more often then not, it does not work out.

So players like Johnson, McNeil and Wood give me pause. Where I know what you're getting with other players, so I tend to stick.

Palmer is one I like at now, and think he is stepping into that Salah role. But equally, I have owned Salah since start of season and he has performed...well Salah like. I don't tend to think two premiums is optimal, as you can only captain one (this is a debatable point I know!). I may make that move, but again Salah is hitting a good run again and has done nothing wrong.

I think you may be bordeing on being a little too stubborn, Bruno / Eze only have 2 returns each and playing for bang average teams. It's difficult to see where your Haaland money has gone with only Salah and no Saka/Palmer who are 90 minute men playing for top 6 sides, safe choices for long term holds barring injuries. I'd be happy starting Rogers most weeks to enable this.

      1. @Bryan
        • 16 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

Aye, Bruno and Eze have disappointed. Underperformed their stats I think to an extent and both have set pieces (or at least share them in Eze case) and are the playmakers for teams, I expect to be in the top half of the league sooner then later.

That said, I can see how that reads like a football manager sticking to his older players, as they fail to produce, and hoping they come good...which rarely ends well!

I've had this conundrum too this season - ultimately I decided if the team is struggling then to get rid. I had Garnacho for first 5 GWs while he kept hitting the post... Just had to get rid of him when it seemed Man Utd were really struggling - same could be said for Crystal Palace and Eze & potentially Newcastle too - stats are one thing but a whole team struggling means its time to get rid (for me). Spurs I actually think are different as they are scoring well

I like your approach and it's still a good team. Fernandez and Eze are the obvious ones but they might be worth holding given the fixtures coming up. You could move one of them up to Palmer by downgrading Porro and Solanke come GW12; there are plenty of value to be had. You can find further funds from TAA to Konate if needed. Otherwise I think it still looks good and a steady ship for the medium term. By then you can consider Haaland for the next City fixture swing.

I think you have to choose between Salah + Haaland. And I'd have Saka + Palmer in either configuration now to get ahead of the curve even with the slightly tougher fixtures.

Vardy isn't one of the 4 cheap forwards I'd consider also - Cunha, Wood, Wissa, Raul.

    Hi everyone I have questions.
Is it worth selling Watkins and Johnson for Salah and Larsen for -4.

Is it better to focus on defense. Because I have Dunk,Konsa,Faes,Gabriel and Ait Nouri there.

My lineup looks like this Pickford-Valdek
    Dunk-Konsa-Faes-Gabriel-Ait Nouri
    Palmer-Mbeumo-Rogers-Dibling-Johnson
    DCL-Haaland-Watkins

    1FT 3.2$

It's better to focus on the better mids and value budget forwards. If you sell Watkins you're relying on Haaland to haul every week, because DCL is a numpty and offers nothing. Get rid of DCL for one of the more reliable forwards like Raul, Wissa, etc. who actually score goals.

      1. FPL Zdzichu LFC

Well seemingly yes,but isn't this defense too weak,Ait nouri will earn a card then have to play Faes and Dunk is out 2-3 Weeks with an injury,Konsa has 2 tough meetings, and with Gabriel we don't know anything. It is known that DCL is weak unless there would be some mention that Beto will play, then I could take even Cunha.

But is it better to let go because we have little CS this season anyway and defense is not that important.

      Prefer Watkins + Dibling > Saka + Raul/Wissa

It's a good time to get off Watkins because he has tot, liv, che in his next 4 games and there are lots of cheap forwards to get. I'm planning to keep Johnson for the next two weeks. He's still getting chances and the next two games look decent.

Well, seemingly so, but doesn't this defense look average under the account that I have few players there to rotate. Plus as Ait nouri will earn a card,I have only to play the unreliable Gabriel,Konsa with 2 Tough games Faes because Dunk caught an injury and I think he will return after the national team break.

Is Gabriel, DCL, N Fraser to Aina, Cunha, Wissa for a -8 out of the question? I know its -8 but I wonder do I benefit in the long run. Gives me an 8th attacker rather than N Fraser just being fodder

It looks fine on paper but the missing info is who is the cover for Gabriel if you don't? And who is the mid/attacker you'd play before but will end up benched after?

ok so my team currently is:

        Raya,
        Gabriel, Ait Nouri, Robinson,
        Salah, Palmer, Mbuemo, McNeil, ESR,
        Haaland, DCL,

        Lis, Faes, Harwood B, Fraser

So if Gab doesnt play its either Faes or Harwood and then its either a McNeil or ESR that'll be benched

I don't know if it needs it this week necessarily. Faes plays for a poor defence but they've got a good fixture against Ipswich so thats not ideal but not horrendous. Great fixture for McNeil if fit. Pretty good fixture for ESR, Brentford are bad at the back. The caveats are I'm about 3m rank currently so my advice is pretty crap generally and if we get news either McNeil or Gabriel or both are out you've probably got to do it.

Saving my current plan here. Feel free to comment with your words, or don't, it's your dime.

    Pope Fabianski
    Lewis Digne Robinson Mazraoui Keane
    Salah Foden Mbeumo Johnson Rogers
    Haaland Solanke Wood | 3FT. 0.1 ITB

    GW10+11: Save
    GW12:
    Sell = Maz + Foden + Johnson + Haaland + Solanke
    Buy = Saliba + Saka + Palmer + Havertz + Jackson

Thoughts: Far from certain which defender I would sell and buy. Currently, this plan leaves me with 0.0, so might not be possible anyway. Not desperate to sell Haaland or buy Jackson, and things can change regarding Solanke. The main thing is to try and save 4-5FTs for GW12 fixture swing.

Sounds like a good plan! I'm far too trigger happy to get anywhere near 5FT. But the team looks good

Annoying but it's better to plan and change plans if necessary than to never plan anything.

For my plan, the defender transfer is not very important, so it can change or wait. I can be flexible there if the price is not right.

Could easily get to one of Saka/Palmer this gw, waiting means missing out on 2 gw of potential returns

Not sure about Havertz...not really getting into double figure returns, ppm low, other options for less money

        1. Deulofail

Yeah, let's see about that in GW12. Arsenal have had a tricky start with fixtures, injuries, red cards and suspensions so far, but there's a swing, at least in fixtures, in GW12, plus hopefully they will have 11 players on the pitch more often from now on. Looking more to the future and the past generally than the most recent, unfortunate past 😀

I think I'm in a good position to wait on Saka and Palmer. I don't need to make decisions on the non-premium players before the time comes, and the time comes in GW12. I'm not sure on the cheaper forward options. They are good, but I don't want to spend a FT getting one and then realising I want to spend another FT (or more) to sell them again for Havertz/Jackson (or getting Solanke back), because they suddenly look much better. Moving early, I could also miss out on points from Haaland and Foden.

Palmer this week could be great, but I think it's a sideways move from Haaland, at best. And then a cheap forward, likewise, feels like a sideways move from, say Foden, at best. What moves would you make?

Possibly Solanke to a budget forward to fund Foden up to Saka/Palmer, not sure how thats for budget

Liked Havertz at start, but disappointed and fair comment on the red cards, but he's returned in 4 of the 9 fixtures, only once getting double digits, two 8s and a 6

Palmer leaves me 5.9 for a FWD so it works for most of the cheapos if they don't rise in price. Far from convinced though due to the GW12 opportunity cost, including potentially Havertz, but there could be other opportunities too.

I think 4G 1A for Havertz isn't bad considering the circumstances tbh. One more goal than Saka. Yes, we want points, but he could be getting a heap of those as the foremost goalscorer when things improve for Arsenal, which I expect they will. One more circumstance that could change is the return of Odegaard. I'll monitor and see. Thanks for your input. Appreciate it

I made the move for Watkins and Havertz to Wissa and Cunha last night. I now have 3 moves I want to make. ESR to Palmer; Barco to Keane; Raya to Sanchez.
    1) are these good moves?
    2) What would the best order to do them in? If I don't do Barco to Keane in the next 1-2 matches, there may not be much point in bringing him in as Everton's fixtures change in the next 4-5 matches. Similarly, Raya's also get easier in the next 2-3 and Palmer is probably fixture proof, but the Chelsea fixtures do not get better for another 2 GWs.

I could also do Rogers or Lavia to Palmer but if I do Lavia, I think I will have a benching headache every week and Rogers' fixtures change and is an OOP midfielder in a very good team with a very good manager.

    Any advice?

I love benching headache as i can keep transfers and re-access again. It is like you can bring in anyone from bench instead of transfer.

No right or wrong, it is how you play the game.

I get rage when I bench a player that scores and play a player that does not. My stress levels do not need this. Better to have a starting 11 with 3 players that can come off the bench and get me 2 points with an occasional added return (which is why I have Lavia to begin with)
