Good morning all. Hope everyone had a lovely Xmas.

Is this team good enough to roll and is the current bench order correct?

    Sanchez
    TAA | Gabriel | Robinson
    Salah | Palmer | Gordon | Jota | Semenyo
    Isak | Jackson

SUBS: Muric | Pedro | Kerkez | Hall

Considering Semenyo or Jota > Sarr or Rogers, but also thinking it could wait a week and assess again after New Years.

Would you sell Bruno or bench him and play Rogers?
If not selling him, I could upgrade the def: Gab/Timber/Hall - Lewis/Greaves.

Honestly Gordon/Murphy are really tempting, probably could add Arsenal mid to the list after the game tonight, or even Mbeumo

Morning folks, some press conference times (in GMT) from Sky Sports. I think most/all of these will have been pre-filmed after GW18 and embargoed till today - so of limited use.

    11.30am - Postecoglou (TOT)
    12pm - Dyche (EVE)
1pm - Amorim (MUN), Maresca (CHE)
1.30pm - Slot (LIV), van Nistelrooy (LEI), Glasner (CRY)

There'll be more to come, too. I know Pep's is embargoed until tomorrow and I think there'll be others today/tonight that Sky haven't listed yet.

I wish that Arteta comment about playing Martinelli more with Saka out hadn't been embargoed - that would have been my transfer.

So Foden wasn't a total disaster - currently 4 points up on Bruno and at least played unlike Diaz. Still, having a player fail in the first game of Boxing Day isn't ideal - wish I'd got Mbeumo back in for 24 hours more anticipation

Gabriel is arguably the best defender in the game and looks like scoring from every corner. Even if they only get 1 clean sheet in next 5 I’d still expect a couple attacking returns

As someone who started the season with a double defence only to see them get humiliated by the likes of Leicester or Southampton - I’d say, yes.

Arsenal is not worth doubling up at the back.

Can't believe what I'm hearing from Amorin . You'd swear ten hag ran the club into the ground judging by the narrative he's spinning. The club obviously has issues from the bottom right to the top be it leaky roofs and run down facilities but that's a good squad of players he has. A 3 5 2 formation shouldn't break their brains. 6 transfer windows could pass and Amorin may never get the players to play the way he wants for the simple reason the calibre of player he needs won't go to a club not playing in the elite competitions. Why aren't united looking at the Bournemouth/ Brighton model? Maybe that's where they are at as a club. That's something you can build on.

ETH abandoned his style at the two games because he knew he needed to get results. Amorim shows no sign of any pragmatism. I'm all for the Rashford decision but targeting both him and Garnacho is overkill.

I honestly think Amorim very quickly regretted this move and is now focused on salvaging his career after it. In hindsight the writing was on the wall the moment he was speaking openly about the fact he wanted to wait until the end of the season.

ETH abandoned his philosophy, as did Rangnik before him. How did they work out?
On the other hand, we all reviled and mocked Chelsea for their 'novel approach'. They're laughing at us now.
I don't know if Amorim's approach will turn out to be right or wrong - nobody has the hindsight, but I don't think any of us keyboard warriors have the answer.

The squad is incredibly unbalanced and has very little depth due to injuries / age / ability.

No strikers, no fullbacks - the best players the squad are young prospects like Mainoo and Yoro.

Any manager would struggle to get a tune out of this rabble.

      1. Hits-Taken
          11 months, 14 days ago

This is utter rubbish talk. The average age of our squad is 26.3 and average starting age at 26.5 which aren't high. You really lost me at age. Finding excuses for the crap we have turned into as a club. Heck!

            • 11 Years

“Age” was referring to players like Casemiro, Eriksen and Evans who have saved us multiple times recently, but need replacing. Weird to kick off over a single word that made perfect sense.

            1. Hits-Taken
                11 months, 13 days ago

You can't mention age & then list only 3 players?! It makes no sense buddy. Just remove age because that isn't part of the reason for the current failure at our club.

I can believe what Amorim is doing, because he is a system manager. And he wants money to buy players for his system. It is obvious to me how Man Utd should play:

          Onana
          Dalot De-Ligt Martinez Shaw
          Ugarte Eriksen Mainoo
          Antony Fernandes Rashford

          Bayindir
          Lindelof Yoro Maguire Malacia
          Casemiro Mount Mazraoui
          Diallo Zirkzee Garnacho

It isn't perfect as the squad needs to get rid of Lindelof so Mazraoui can go to RB and then sign a DM. Fernandes as a false nine worked well against Fulham as a process. The outcome wasn't perfect because Fernandes missed some good chances, but that happens - even the best like Messi, Kane, Ronaldo, Mbappe miss chances. But in that Fulham game, Man Utd had a higher xG and a lower xGC.

And that's why you are a deluded Man Utd fan. You want to play 'good' football and then you are angry when the team is leaking goals and then losing.

How is a team made up of…

                * glacial centreback pairing
                * leftback who can only play 45 mins at a time
                * the ghost of Eriksen
                * arguably the worst signing ever
                * no recognised striker
                * Rashford who’s trying to leave

… expected to play good football? Even on FIFA this would get pummeled.

We (United) haven't got a good squad of players as being shown by their current position in the table. The majority of the team needs selling in order to start a sqaud rebuild.

Then obviously the stadium/training facilities need dealing with. How can you say that Amorim won't get backing from INEOS? If they don't back him then they're no better than the Glazers.

Fixtures do not breed form. If teams are bad in attack they are bad in attack, they might get slightly better in attack against weaker opposition but they arent suddenly going to start winning games scoring 4 goals in the process. The transfer being thrown around I'm baffled by most is Mateta. A 7m+ striker from Palace?

Six red arrows on the bounce and my rank has gone from 242k > 505k.

Had two good GW’s in there and above average on the poor weeks. Captaincy has been Palmer or Salah and that has gone well. I guess it must be the differentials hurting me and lack of defensive returns.

Sold Cunha but got Isak. Just not sure if I will be 1 million rank soon if I keep this going.

None of them. With most not owning Haaland or Saka you shouldnt need a 4.5m mid this year and especially when theres loads of options around 5m who offer you 300% more in output.

+1. Makes it much easier to keep rolling transfers if you have an eighth attacker.

Winks likely to drop to 4.4m, worried new Saints boss doesn’t trust Dibling - hooked at HT and then benched in the two games

Knowing Spurs they'll probably stick 6 past Wolves next and then blank again after.

Was going to do Enzo to Sarr this week, but watching the highlights of Enzo has put me off. He seemed very involved.

I know most people here don’t care what this person says, but it is quite remarkable how much content creators hide behind xG, for making bad decisions

If it goes well = great pick

If it goes wrong = xG shows we were unlucky ;(((

Some people can never just admit they messed up. How could anyone watch Cunha play yesterday and say he overperformed or got lucky? Probably someone that doesn’t watch football and looks at stat tables all day

I think it makes them lazy. its easier to say buy so and so because look I've got this data that looks good in my content that backs up my narrative, rather than trying to explain an opinion based on what you've seen with your eyes.

Scoring from a corner flag is always lucky, especially when the player committed actual assault that somehow the officials missed only 2 weeks ago

Scoring from a corner is a rare event yeah, but to say Cunha owners are lucky is not true. He should have had 2 clear cut penalties against West Ham a few weeks ago

They can be simultaneously both unlucky for some things and lucky for others

A couple of 50/50 pen calls don't make up for the fact many managers sold/avoided buying him because of this impending ban of his, which would have resulted in around 30 pts less for Cunha owners had it been spotted by officials at the time

Anyone who sold him didn’t need to and they probably sold him for Isak rather than another player

There was no need to sell until the ban is announced. Leicester and Man Utd are plum fixtures

Scoring directly from a corner kick doesn't happen everyday though, does it? Other than that, he wasn't anywhere close to scoring a goal, so I can see where he is coming from.

Yeah its a fair point about the corner. But we know Cunha mainly scores bangers so his xg probably isnt that relevant. Just because your average player can't score from 20 yards and that makes it look unlikely, doesn't mean he can't and it doesnt make it lucky if it happens (although i agree about corners going straight in)

Son used to score braces and hat-tricks from very low xG all the time and people owned him for that

They weren’t mentioning stats then. Thats why I think they just hide behind them when it suits, just to make it seem like they didn’t make a bad call, when in fact they most certainly did

I didn't say anything about xG, it's specifically the direct corner kick that I brought up. I bought Cunha when he was 6.5, I know what he can do.

Yep you nailed it. Everything this guy says reeks of "I've not watched an actual game in years". I guess it's a way to play and I don't necessarily want to demean that, but the limitations of his arguments / ideas are plain to see

Bakar can be a limited manager and Cunha owners can still also be very lucky though, they're not mutually exclusive
