Bukayo Saka (£10.5m) was undoubtedly the main Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking point from a busy day of football.

Ipswich Town v Arsenal and Fulham v Chelsea are the focus of this Gameweek 33 Scout Notes article.

ARTETA ON SAKA…

Having somehow swerved the attacking returns in the first half of Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Ipswich, Saka was substituted on 57 minutes.

He’d previously been subjected to a reckless challenge on the back of his ankle by Leif Davis (£4.2m), who was sent off.

Quickly strapped with an ice pack, Mikel Arteta provided a positive update after full-time.

“He was a bit sore but it’s nothing serious, so that’s good.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka

The Spaniard was later asked if he was worried Saka had picked up a serious injury.

“I do, especially with the numbers we have right now and especially when [tackles] are with your back to goal because normally it’s the moment when the foot is planted, your weight is there and you cannot really react to it, but he’s fine.

“I haven’t seen it in slow motion, I’ve just seen the normal pace image and yeah, he cuts him from the back. I don’t think it’s intentional at all but obviously it’s dangerous because he cannot really react to anything because you cannot see him coming.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka

Arteta also told the BBC:

“He was hurt because of the tackle but it didn’t look anything serious.

“He was demanding it, he wanted those minutes, he needs to feel now the capacity and consistency of the minutes, I think he was really good.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka

… AND ROTATION

Arteta also discussed rotation ahead of Wednesday’s home meeting with Crystal Palace.

Arsenal’s Blank Gameweek 34 does at least allow Arteta a touch more breathing space, however.

“We have to somehow put 11 players out there and have four or five changes, so let’s see how they recover in the next few days. The good thing is they are willing to play because they like the rhythm as well.

“We are so used to that rhythm every three days that the boys are demanding and then we don’t have a game at the weekend, so we have a gap there, so let’s see how we get on on Wednesday.” – Mikel Arteta on rotation against Crystal Palace

At Portman Road, Arteta made three changes from the team that beat Real Madrid in midweek.

Two of them were at full-back, as Ben White (£6.1m) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (£4.8m) came in for Jurrien Timber (£5.7m) and Myles Lewis-Skelly (£4.5m).

Two goals from Leandro Trossard (£6.7m), the other alteration, plus strikes from Gabriel Martinelli (£6.5m) and substitute Ethan Nwaneri (£4.5m), helped Arsenal cruise to a 4-0 win.

Trossard was one of the best players on the pitch and deservedly scooped up the maximum bonus.

“He looked very sharp. We know his quality, put him right, left or centre and he will deliver.” – Mikel Arteta on Leandro Trossard

Overall, this was one of the most comfortable afternoons in the Premier League so far this season for Arsenal, with Ipswich barely given a sniff.

Indeed, the hosts had just five touches in the Gunners’ box.

Arsenal, meanwhile, had 71 in the Tractor Boys’ penalty area.

Saka accounted for 12 of those penalty box touches in just 57 minutes of action, with three shots, five chances created and 1.39 expected goal involvement (xGI).

As for Ipswich, with Davis suspended, they could be short of left-back options in Gameweek 34, with no guarantee Conor Townsend (£3.9m) will be fit for the trip to St James’ Park.

Jacob Greaves (£3.8m) played at left-back following Davis’ red card on Sunday. A potential boost for Newcastle United’s right-sided attackers, then.

Liam Delap (£5.6m), meanwhile, continued on the bench as he battles with an ongoing rib injury.

MUNIZ INJURY

Rodrigo Muniz (£5.5m) missed out for Fulham on Sunday, having picked up an injury against Bournemouth in Gameweek 32.

“Unfortunately for us he was injured. He got a tackle in the last game against Bournemouth.

“He wasn’t in perfect condition to train this week. We tried and we tested him yesterday, but he wasn’t in condition to be in contention.” – Marco Silva on Rodrigo Muniz

If Muniz is ruled out for a longer period, attention will quickly turn to Raul Jimenez (£5.3m), who led the line here.

Emile Smith Rowe (£5.1m) was also absent through injury.

SESSEGNON IMPACT

Despite suffering late heartbreak, Fulham were in control for large periods at Craven Cottage.

Out-of-position defender Ryan Sessegnon (£4.1m) lined up on the right of Marco Silva’s attack for the third successive match and provided the assist for Alex Iwobi’s (£5.5m) opener, bullying Reece James (£4.8m) off the ball before fizzing it into his team-mate.

And make no mistake, Sessegnon was one of Fulham’s chief attacking threats, despite underwhelming on the stats front.

With a trip to Southampton in Blank Gameweek 34, he could be a handy differential pick, having served up three goals and two assists in his last seven appearances.

It’s worth keeping an ear out for any injury updates, however, as the BBC live feed mentioned an issue, although he did play on for a few minutes after receiving treatment.

As for Chelsea, a well-taken goal by substitute Tyrique George (£4.5m) drew the visitors level.

Pedro Neto (£6.1m) then arrowed in the winner with a rocket of a shot.

There was another blank for Cole Palmer (£10.6m), however: he’s now gone 16 games without a goal in all competitions.

On the injury front, Malo Gusto (£4.9m) suffered a muscle issue, while Christopher Nkunku‘s (£5.7m) exclusion from the matchday squad was a “technical decision”.

“Unfortunately, it’s not a good one, a muscle problem and you can see against Ipswich, second half he was inside, changed the game, today he was inside, changed the game, how important is Malo for us and unfortunately it looks like a muscle injury.” – Enzo Maresca on Malo Gusto

Yeah Marco Silva can't be trusted with Muniz info if going for Jimenez on FH34

If Gordon was to start does he replace Barnes or Murphy?

      I don't think it's a straightforward call.

Previously Gordon would have replaced Barnes but Barnes has played well in recent games. Gordon/Barnes aren't particularly great at RW. Also Murphy has been the one subbed off before Barnes.

Barnes is on the sell list this summer if they cant make the Barnes/Gordon combo work. So, I think they will be trying it.

I don't think the reason you have given will have any impact to Tindall/Howe/Newcastle team selection.

At this stage of the season and aim to finish top 5 for UCL football next season, they will pick the best players for the fixture.

Normally I’d say Barnes for sure but he’s looking the goods atm - as is Murphy. With Gordon still working up to full steam, Murphy is usually the one replaced. Buyer beware though - Howe roulette…

I'm just not sure liverpool is the safest defence which is putting me off TAA. Like the rest, but thinking of getting Kluivert for the pens, just not sure over who yet!

Similar to my starting 11 except I have Diaz instead of Palmer and Strand Larsen (my 3rd Wolves player and in starting 11) instead of Wood and I have Mbeumo on bench. Other bench players are Sanchez, Robinson and Milenkovic. Will continue to tinker!

Honestly think Bournemouth could batter United. I would have one or both of Kluivert and Evanilson. Is Palmer really the play? Chelsea and him are in terrible form and that Everton low block is hard to break down.

    Sela ( Areola )

Prefer Leno or Sa as the keeper. Sessegnon looks an interesting option instead of Robinson.

Which forward would you buy for the rest of the season?

    A) Wood (BRE cry LEI* whu CHE)
    B) Cunha (LEI mcy BHA* cry BRE)
    C) Wissa (nfo MUN ips* FUL wol)

GW36 is starred because I plan to FH that week so can basically rule out that fixture from consideration.

It feels very close between these options. I'm leaning away from Wood because if Forest make the FA Cup final they could blank in 37 and I'd prefer to have fewer potential blank 37s so I'm stronger in that week where most are weak from holding onto DGW36 assets.

United in GW35 is actually one of the plummest fixtures possible. It's the week before the UEL semi. They'll rest everyone.

It is a plum fixture for sure but its the only one, Wissa's in great form but did blank v Forest and Fulham this season (missed the wolves game)

Cunha got returns from Lei, Palace and Brentford and i expect him to again.

After the trauma of selecting it for the golden Moyes spell, but forgetting to click the button (!), i have recovered my lost sleepless nights and got Howe 11 +10 +13 + Arteta 12 (plus 1 to go). No FH34 and originally planned to field 9 with a backline of Bradley, AWB, Castagne.

Now that TAA is back, AWB fitness is unclear, and Tete return from injury, should I pull trigger on WC instead of trying to hold on until GW35 so i can make a WC with 36/37 fixtures confirmed?

BGW34 currently this after a hit:

    Livra - Bradley* - AWB* - Castagne*
    Diaz - Salah - Murphy
    Cunha - Isak

Build a WC draft, you will get a better idea. That team wont be able to compete with FH but covers most of the key players, with a -4, you might just survive.

Yeah built a WC draft and just impossible to hone in on which teams to go in on because we dont know what 36/37 looks like. Also Newcastle + Wolves are very much needed this GW, but their fixtures are meh at best for 36/37

WC looks like something like this, to try to maximize on 36/37 as well and get a good team out this week.

        Leno
        RAN - Kerkez* - Livramento - Murillo*
        Mbeumo - Bowen - Salah - Murphy
        Cunha - Isak

        Sels* - Rogers* - Gvardiol* - Marmoush*

Cheers a bunch! I think two Bournemouth attackers is a bit too much, but maybe Welbeck. Fulham attack is notoriously difficult.

I'm going for Sessegnon over Robinson, haven't really seen much for Robinson lately. Murphy may just be rotated, as Gordon will be looking to return to the starting XI. Also, I think I'd go for another Wolves attacker rather than GK.

I am debating holding my FH until
GW36 and getting Haaland in and 3 Forest players (not sure who else will be doubling that week, if anybody) as I can get 9 out this week, or 10 with a -4:

              Sels
              Livramento, Konate,
              Salah, Bowen Murphy
              Isak

Plus 2-3 more players. Any thoughts?

I think its a wise strategy. Because a -4 is basically a minus 2 if your player plays both halves without getting a card. If they return, then it would result in a gain

Is it best to steer clear of Barnes/Gordon/Murphy due to minutes uncertainty and go with Isak, Pope & Schar?

So Leicester are down, won’t hear a peep for another year or two.
Getting rid of Copper when 16th & getting Rudd was terrible decision.
Cooper at least ground out results & got wins & draws.
Rudd’s record, is probably one of the worst - leaves him with the unenviable record of having lost 17 of his 22 games, winning just three. He has lost 16 of his last 18 matches in charge, and what manager with that record survives?
Yesterday extended the home goal drought to nine league games and 810 minutes - the worst in top-flight history.

I agree - the appointment of RVN was disastrous. Cooper wouldn't have saved them (appreciate that's not the focus of your post), but I'm baffled by the volume of chat from Forest fans swearing Cooper would have kept them up. I just don't see it - they had Wolves and Palace behind them but they got their acts together - it was more than new manager bounce for Wolves. If you had to make up a first XI from those three teams, I don't see a single LCFC player getting a look in.

It's been a long time coming, but the damage was done with the mismanagement that led to the first relegation - they should not have gone down with that squad. Since then recruitment has been poor, and that's on LCFC too.

But my concern is that the restrictions of FFP on clubs coming up and the general gulf means that it is no coincidence that this is the second time in a row that the three that came up are going down. Before that it happened in 1998, and it was the second time ever. Now it's twice in a row. That's the problem that needs fixing or it will mean that poor clubs in the bottom third of the Premier league save for the promoted clubs will always stay there, get the TV money and there will be no jeopardy (or accountability for mediocre performances). The only interest will be in who wins.

I would have left Ruud in charge at Man U for the rest of the season and let Amorim come in the summer like he wanted to. Cooper should have been given more time. Man U, Amorim and Leicester would all be in better positions.

Crikey these FH34 teams with triple Wolves and Fulham. It might be okay but it doesn't fill you with much excitement does it? As much based on how bad the opposition is as how good they are. Everyone has triple Newcastle so that doesn't count. Everyone has Salah. Other Liverpool options are a bit dicey on the mins front. As someone who didn't play it in either, FH29 was definitely the better week on paper with Bruno vs Leicester and Haaland as options. I'm sure plenty can get to Cunha if they need to, not as if we're all short of cash.

Every FH team looks similar, Trippier vs. Schar, Sessegnon vs Robinson, Barnes vs Murphy...
Bookies have Newcastle to score most goals, followed by Pool. Tough to pick a Pool attacker other than Salah.

Haven't seen one FH with balls to pick a double-double or a triple defense, which makes you think they're all in the top 1k/10k and none are chasing.

Once the content comes out and the parrots in here will start parroting, it will be even more template.

BGW and DGW season can become very boring with most of the CCs having the same strategies. I find it fun to try and bet against it. It doesn't always work, but at least I don't feel like I'm forced into playing someone else's game.

If they take risks and they don't work out, they'll lose viewers/followers, so they have to finish on a decent rank. Being dull while ranked 100k-200k is still a must for them.
Most CCs that are doing well will pick a high owned player over a low owned one even if they think the low owned one will do better just to play safe and preserve rank.

Most in here don't make money and are not in money leagues, yet they played both WCs when most played, picked the template. Then BBed when everyone else BBed and now are playing the FH when most are playing it and picking the same players.
One would think they've learned something after failing both WCs and the BB, but nope. Once in the herd always with the herd.

Taken in isolation GW29 does look like being the better of the two GW to FH but the GWs around it come into the equation as well. There is no way you could have had 12 GW33 DGWers, and potentially up to 9 GW36 DGWers without taking multiple hits if you used FH in GW29

It depends on chip strategy. I didn't need 12 GW DGWers as I was on AM. I've still got my WC and BB.

It's hard to judge true success in chips, as you're right, there are things that you do in other GWs to facilitate them. I got a 4 digit GW rank last season by using my FH early when Man City had a blank for club world cup, but I'll have lost some ground later in DGW/BGW weeks.

Stuck on what to do. No chips left. Have already done Marmoush and Sarr to Bowen + Wood for -4 (minus 2 if they both play 60+ mins) to give me 10 players. With Sa injury might be down to 9. Any thoughts on what to do? Team as follows
                      Sa (Henderson)
                      VVD, Neco, Burn (Gvardiol, Saliba)
                      Salah, Bowen, Murphy (Saka, Rogers)
                      Isak, Wood, Wissa

Do you think its also wise to move Saka out to either Mbeumo, Palmer or anyone else? Would definitely ned the player to give me some return to make it count
