Marmoush Rashford

MUCH FPL MISERY

Around 1.5 million managers captained Omar Marmoush (£7.7m) for his two matches, with 117,000 trusting him as Triple Captain. Yet he’ll go down in FPL infamy as both occasions were depressing blanks, accumulating no more than one shot on target and one big chance.

There were some half-hearted claims that the Egyptian was robbed of an assist for this opening goal, when his left-sided cross was diverted into a central Bernardo Silva’s (£6.1m) shot that Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) couldn’t hold onto. But it was never likely to be given.

Marmoush did eventually put the ball past Martinez late on but it was immediately ruled offside. There was also disappointment for Kevin De Bruyne’s (£9.4m) new owners.

700,000 decided to take a romantic punt on the Belgian for his recently announced farewell tour but, despite playing 177 minutes across the two matches, he also failed to deliver anything. These latest 10 corners and six chances created didn’t assist, though he did pick up a bonus point.

Making things worse, this night of blanks and bookings brought yellow cards to Morgan Rogers (£5.7m) and Josko Gvardiol (£6.3m). No clean sheets either.

RASHFORD V WATKINS

However, this huge match in the race to secure Champions League football could’ve been so different had Marcus Rashford (£6.7m) scored after 17 seconds. With minimal effort, he was through on Man City’s goal but his strike instead clipped the post.

He almost one-upped Ollie Watkins (£8.9m), having seen his centre-forward rival break Saturday’s deadlock after 33 seconds. The latter starred against Newcastle United, taking out his frustrations regarding Unai Emery’s European lineups by scoring and assisting.

Yet Watkins was back on the bench here, witnessing Rashford have four big chances and 1.40 expected goals (xG). The latter equalised at the Etihad with a controversial penalty given against Ruben Dias (£5.4m), even though the defender got his toe to the ball.

Then, after an hour, Rashford took the same ball around a stranded Stefan Ortega (£5.2m) but hit the side netting.

Watkins replaced him for the final stages – coming on alongside Marco Asensio (£6.2m) – but could only secure his own yellow card, making it zero points for the night.

With Villa and Man City missing Blank Gameweek 34 due to their FA Cup semi-finals, owners of such players will need to judge their potential for Gameweeks 35 to 38. This incredible top-five race remains tight but we’re no closer to knowing who’ll start more often: Rashford or Watkins. That massively dents the FPL appeal of both.

NO MINUTES FOR FODEN OR SAVINHO

Pep Guardiola named no wingers in this starting XI and, predictably, his team struggled to carve out big chances that could win the match. Then, he threw on Jeremy Doku (£6.2m).

In the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, the Belgian accelerated past Axel Disasi (£4.2m) and played a pass across goal for Matheus Nunes (£4.9m) to tap in a dramatic, unexpected winner.

It sparked huge celebrations in Manchester but Phil Foden (£9.1m) and Savinho (£6.2m) could only do it from the sidelines. Neither were called upon here, just like the England international wasn’t used on Saturday at Everton.

Last season’s second-highest FPL points scorer has played 71 of Man City’s last 540 minutes.

“I’m not playing the wingers because now, lately, I’m open with the full-backs. That’s the reason why. The moment he learns to play inside, because I think he has the quality to do it, he will play inside. Always I have played nine years with the wingers high and wide, one against one, but lately for the reasons, for stability, for many reasons, we need more control or whatever, we play with full-backs wide. So that’s why he’s maybe playing less but not because he’s playing bad.” – Pep Guardiola on Jeremy Doku

FH draft - looking for thoughts on the defence mainly...

Not hugely keen on the Fulham double up, as Southampton tend to nick a goal. Would you switch Sess for Trent/VVD?

    Leno
    RAN Schar Sessegnon
Salah (c) Diaz Palmer Barnes Mbuemo
    Isak Cunha

Keep Sessegnon but maybe swap Leno out for a different keeper i.e. Pope then swap out Schar for a Pool DEF.

If Sess is fit he’s got to be Fulham’s best option, OOP but yeah wouldn’t double up on their defence. Sels still the best gk for me, they keep so many cs at home. I’m currently on TAA over Diaz if we get news he starts.

Is anyone going for Gordon over Barnes / Murphy - or too risky still?

Most of what I’ve seen suggests Barnes and Murphy will keep their spots to start with

I'll stick with Barnes for now then, seems to be getting the best minutes out of the three in recent matches.

Notice FPL has tweaked the FDR tool, most notably they have applied a fixture difficulty rating of 1 for games against Leicester and Southampton.

What I cant understand is why they have not applied the same 1 rating for games against Ipswich.

For example Newcastle are at home to Ipswich at this week but the fixture is a 2 rating for Newcastle.

Ipswich have only 3 more pts than Leicester and are 15pts behind the team above them. Clearly they should be in the same bracket as Southampton and Leicester in terms of FDR so why haven't they applied the same FDR for Ipswich. It makes no sense.

To me no it doesn’t, they should be rated 1 but to FPL it does

Just checked how many points my SIX platers in last nights match got:
    Marmoush (c) 4, Ortega 2, Gvardiol 1, Watkins 0, Rogers1, Disasi 1
    9 points from 7 !
Lucky wasn't the only game of midweek.
Will Isak, Murphy, Livramento, Sarr, Munoz and Henderson do any better tonight!

Saka will probably sit it out

        Merino should do well

If Palace score you'd hope for some involvement or maybe Mateta will come back into things?

Has there ever been this big a gap beween 17th and 18th in the Premier League? i.e. there really hasn't been a relegation battle of any sort this season.

Obviously I can't plan ahead so have Emery as AM in GW34 (last GW for AM for me) and they are not playing...

    a) Slot (Spurs) - can see the win and a good number of goals
    b) Howe (Ips) - already maxed out on Newcastle so would require another transfer
    c) Nuno (Brentford) - can see win but not a goalfest
    d) anyone else

I'd say Brighton should be pretty strong favourites to win too.

I'd go Thomas Frank and it wouldn't even be that close of a decision imo.

Brentford have like 10 days rest vs Forest who play vs City in the FA Cup semi final on Sunday. Forest's defensive stats have sunk pretty badly. They are 17th for xGC over the last few games, only above the relegated 3.

A 1-0 Brentford win is worth 18 points. A 0-0 draw is worth 10 points. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Brentford get a result here and a win would have you laughing all the way home.

I've seen him in a few.

I reckon Brighton do well against West Ham but Bowen could easily score too.

So Newcastle the stronger goalkeeper/ defence pick on FH.

There's always a trade off in this game.

Ditching Isak on my FH, going Pope, Trippier, Barnes. Wood, Cunha and Welbeck front line. I've just no faith in Isak right now. Am I mad?

        - Sanchez is not even in top 5 goalkeepers I would play in this blank gameweek
        - TAA not even remotely assured of starting, and Tottenham can still score
        - Palmer just devoid of form, don't see any legitimate reason why anyone would go with him

Why not go for Leno + Konaté + Cucurella + Luis Diaz

Liverpool can secure the league this weekend, no?

I won’t double up on Fulham defence that’s for sure but I do like Cucurella, why would you go Konate over VVD?

You're right. Checked the statistics and VVD > Konaté.

I was under the illusion VVD more prone to YC but incorrect.
