Two weekend goals have caused Bryan Mbeumo (£8.2m) to be the most-bought Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player in the run-up to Gameweek 10. By Wednesday afternoon, he’s already reached 750,000 purchases.

However, while he’s ahead of costlier Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes (£8.9m) for points, committing to the Cameroon international isn’t a straightforward decision.

Using basic numbers, deeper stats from our Members Area and some additional context, let’s try to determine which midfielder is best.

RECENT FORM

It’s not just Mbeumo’s brace, but also his Gameweek 8 goal at Anfield, which followed an assist against Sunderland. Whereas Fernandes has only one attacking return over the last four Gameweeks.

During this period, Mbeumo dominates his colleague for both goals and points, while both have created the same number of big chances (two).

[GAMEWEEKS

FERNANDES14104291.54 (-1.54)2.17 (-1.17)
MBEUMO3286471.05 (+1.95)1.82 (+2.18)

Fernandes’ shots are more about quantity than quality, as Mbeumo makes up for his fewer efforts by having a high accuracy (85.7%).

Yet here we have a case of overachievement versus underachievement when it comes to expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI) tallies.

Despite the worse FPL output from Gameweek 6, Fernandes has still outdone Mbeumo for both. Still, it’s worth remembering that the latter, when at Brentford, had 2024/25’s biggest xG Delta (+7.74), showing a recent history of beating the data.

Why would they blank in 17 on a weekend? Surely the game to put it in is the existing midweek slot when they play Burnley - no idea which week that is but the whole league play midweek. Palace could end up getting Cardiff too.

Not even close to sacking even if this was his first season. Underperforming xg has cost points. Defence is the only area where Pool actually is not on adequate level consistently at the moment.

Slot will rightly get pelters for this. It’s one thing resting the first team, but not having any of them on the bench in case it goes tits up, is plain negligence.

Away to Newcastle may have been a rest as opposed to a drop, for King, vs that Newcastle power midfield
And as above Esr seems crocked

I have to either start Stach (or Senesi vs MCI or take -4 and sell Stach for Sarr with exact money. That -4 alone isn't mathematically sound for this gw only, but I can see upside with having the transfer done and perhaps being able to save one next week. Would give me this:

    Pope/Dub
    Gabi, Timber, VvD, Senesi, Andersen
Saka, Semenyo, Enzo, Sarr, 4.3 (Essugo)
    Erling, Wolte, Mateta

    A) Start Stach
    B) Stach to Sarr (-4)

Yes. Sarr is going to be 6.6 before deadline. That would mean taking a hit next week and downgrade elsewhere to get him. I prefer biting the bullet now and hoping that he hauls. Upside chasing is more fun than seeing team get worse for the future. Funnier also.

Not sure about that. It isn't that easy to have 5 good mids and have better 5th mid than Nick who scored also today. He will perhaps blank every third game.

Noe one at Liverpool cares about the Mickey Mouse cup of course, but this was a chance for Slot to make a statement and stop the rot and he didnt. I think its a bit underestimated what it does mentally to a team thats already performing poorly to go out of a cup as well. It just solidifies the "we are not very good" feeling.

    1. Nightcrawler
      • 6 Years

They destroyed Frankfurt in UCL and that did nothing from them in the league. League cup results would have no impact on the premier league either. It's just made up narrative

Just because you cant quantify it doesnt mean there isnt a psychological impact of losing games and going out of cups.

Got to disagree. Season after season this cup is irrelevant until the final/semifinal. Play the second team until that and see where it gets you. No need to panic change the strategy.
