634x258 Suspensions

A busy weekend on the suspension tightrope has seen the eight residents of the previous Gameweek joined by seven new additions. With the loss of two unfortunate souls to suspension, we’re left with a Hallowe’en worthy band of 13 trick or treaters to tread carefully through Gameweek 10.

If you’ve been following the various Scout outlets, such as the handy sidebar widget, the detailed data of the members area or even stumbled across my twitter feed (hashtag: #suspensiontightrope), then you’ll know much of this already, but read on for the disciplinary highlights that the weekend had to offer…

Despite the upturn in goalscoring accuracy for Luis Suárez this season and his steady stream of Fantasy points, the disciplinary cloud is never far from the Uruguayan. A fourth yellow card of the campaign, picked up in the Merseyside derby (for the controversial foul on Sylvain Distin) adds him to our rogues gallery this week, just one more booking from a single match ban. Theoretically, a card received in the midweek cup tie against Swansea would therefore see Suárez suspended for the next league game (home to Newcastle).

Highlighted in the article last week, with his fourth caution collected in Gameweek 8, many thought a tactical booking for Michu was a likely occurrence last weekend but, perhaps with a higher moral regard for these things, the Spaniard completed the game untarnished and, as with Suárez, will still be available for the cup game at Anfield.

Fellow tightrope mainstay Marouane Fellaini is also present and correct on the graphic this week as he negotiated that fiery derby date unscathed and continues his Damoclean adventure into Gameweek 10. No cup game to complicate matters for the flocculent Belgian means he’ll definitely be playing ‘under the sword’ as Everton visit Craven Cottage next weekend.

Finally, West Ham defender and Fantasy favourite Winston Reid is the last name picked out from the tainted hordes. His quarter of a million ownership now also face an anxious wait to see when his fifth booking will arrive, bringing with it the customary ban – again no cup exploits for The Hammers to interfere.

On to the suspensions and we’ve seen a flurry of those this week, too. Angel Rangel and James McArthur (originally missed by Opta, but since corrected) have both falled from the high wire this week with their fifth yellow cards, jointly winning the tightrope race conveniently in time to serve out their single match suspension in the midweek Capital One Cup ties.

Also sitting out the handy cup fixtures are Branislav Ivanovic (one match ban for his dismissal in denying a goalscoring opportunity), Fernando Torres and Aston Villa’s Joe Bennett (both dismissed for two cautions resulting in a one match ban),

The longer term absentees, Stéphane M’Bia (first match of three), Cheick Tioté (second match of three) and John Terry (last of a four match ban) will all remain suspended for the upcoming return to league action.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

How do I fix this mess lads? Want RVP back but quite a lot of injuries

    Foster - Begovic
    Baines - Gibbs - Demel - Cuellar - Davies
    Hazard - Pienaar - Michu - Cazorla - Guthrie
    Aguero - Ba - Berb

2.8 in the bank so Aguero > RVP is staring me in the face. Doubts elsewhere with Ba, Berb, Guthrie, Demel and Gibbs all have me worried though. Looks like a hit or two are necessary?
Cheers for any help lads, much appreciated 🙂

There are various theories about why Verm is not moving forward. Aside from Santos being crap and Verm covering the left, it's also suggested that Song used to drop back as a replacement CB when Verm went forwarded but Arteta can't. That sounds plausible but tbh I was rarely looking out for that. I believe song has been fielded CB by Barca before but Arteta never has by anyone.

Yeah, that might be true. Song is a true DM, so is capable of that whereas Arteta isn't. He's just filling that role as he's the best for it. I really don't know any CMs who can play at CB, whereas Song and Mascherano both play at CB for Barca.

I am keeping Santi. I think he'll be pretty steady - and may even prove to be a big game hitter like Mata so want to give him this Utd fixture to test that theory. I'm wildcarding and kicked Giroud to touch - but I reckon it's not the last I'll see of him. Soon as he gets his eye in I think he'll be back. Those stats!

Yeah I'm looking at getting Mata in, but then it's either Bale or Santi who have to go, and I fancy Bale more than Santi atm. I still have a couple of days to mull over it. On WC I would definitely keep Santi though.

Hoping for a high-scoring Utd V AFC match...

Some good season-keeper material in the spine here. Type of team you could just pop the armband on VP and leave alone til Xmas and still do better than you would tinkering the hell out of it, over-thinking fixtures etc etc.

He's always described as hirsute, and I'm bored of that word. As a scientist, flocculent was just too good to pass up when it came into my head. Glad you liked it.

Marc Wilson -> Huth. What a miserable transfer to have to make. If only i'd just got Huth in last week instead of trying to save some cash.

Just think more potential for goals, and good a differential since no-one seems to have him.

I was in the same boat, as just having transferred Wilson in, then he gets injured. Stuffed up my gameplan, so had to take points hits to stay on track. Santi was a failed punt too, and he had to go. knowing my luck, he will play a blinder against United and get a ht-trick, or something!

You have to summon it with hits. It senses the player's need to Go Wild. Make changes that take you into hit territory and it shall magically appear.

      Start Ivanovic ahead of Caulker.

    someon help me here
I have a 15pounds free bet which I am planning to put on Swindon DNB, which if I win, I get 19pounds.
I am planning to hedge it with buyng AVI win which has a odd of 11/10,
how much should I put in that?

It depends on who you think will be the most likely to win, therefore increasing your winfall.

E.g. if you think Swindon most chance of winning, put say £4 on AVI, then you will be up either £15 or £4.40
      or

Put £10 on AVI and you will be up £9 for swindon or £11 for AVI

Have 2FT, not too happy having Cazorla (rather have Bale), Guthrie, Lambert. 0.1m in the bank.

Any cheap strikers it worth downgrading Lambert to so I can upgrade Caz to Bale or Guthrie to someone who actually plays e.g. Sterling?

Pog looks a decent cheap striker. Hasn't performed too well so far but Reading are starting to look like scoring quite a few.

Sagna. Both will concede, Sagna has more assist potential.
FWIW Im planning to take a hit this week to bring in Cameron and bench Sagna.

    My Team:

    Jaask/Beg
    Hughes/Cuellar/Baines/Clyne/Rangel
    Bale/Hazard/Cazorla/Michu/Sterling
    Berb/Tevez/Jelavic

I was thinking of doing an 8 point hit for Hazard, Cazorla, Berb > Mata, Morrison, RVP leaving 0 in the bank. Think this will pay off, if not immediately then over the next few weeks?

Play Berb this week! Fulham are at home!

Hazard and Caz to Mata and Morrison this week could pay off. Then bring in RVP the week after for free.

Btw mental. On an old copy of fifa I just used a formation editor to create a 3-3-1-3 formation (took me 2 hours) for Athletic Bilbao, played United and won 4-1.

Crazy formation but it really works. Even in this old game that's basic the pressing works, kept winning the ball in the united half. Flanks are EXTREMELY vulnerable though. Always shuffling over to try to shut down the winger.

Will it be crazy to have BOTH Rooney and RVPin my squad? I remember the Man U - Arsenal rapefest from last year, and Man U have a delicious run of fixtures after this week. Will require a 4-pt hit, sacrificing Suarez, and trading Gibbs down for a sub 4.1 defender. Should I do it?

I don't see Arse losing in such spectacular fashion again. I don't rate Arse very much - but I do rate Arsene very highly. He'll have them organized and motivated.

Roon + RVP is team-killing overkill, imo.

Arsenal are in far better shape than they were at that point last season, so I don't see them scoring more than 4. However, I do see RVP doing very well. If you go sub-4.1 you will never play them, so that seems risky, but depends on the rest of your back line. I wouldn't do it personally.
