Injuries to some of the Premier League’s biggest stars have dominated discussion amongst the community, with wildcards and hits falling like confetti. We also catch up on those in far better health in our community leagues.

Hottest Topic

Greenwindmill posed a timely question this week. Given injuries to Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott (and with Robin Van Persie still a doubt for the weekend), our moderator contemplated just how we judge whether a hit is worthwhile or not. Among those to answer was Brutus619, who puts forward a good case for hits and an even better case for inclusion in a forthcoming Scoutcast Full Jonty.

Many Fantasy Football managers almost fainted when they saw Robin Van Persie had been handed a 14m price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season. But even though other strikers such as Olivier Giroud have outscored him for a fraction of his price, Jonny believes his price may have been perfect. His reasoning is that despite a volatile market in the last two weeks  in the FPL game, RVP’s ownership has remained relatively steady. Could he remain 14m for the rest of the season? Even though he missed last Sunday’s Manchester derby, RVP has still not dropped in price this week.

For those considering drafting in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the likes of Van Persie or Benteke, Blue Lion’s post will prove fruitful reading. With another loan move under his belt the young striker looks prime for points, he argues. This was certainly the case against West Ham.

Wakey’s regular Falling Stars posts offer a welcome antidote to those of us with jerky knees, looking to transfer out poor performers. Each week he profiles a selection of players who have dropped in value to show how sometimes it is worth hanging on to unfashionable players. Stephane Sessegnon, who is 0.3m cheaper than his starting price, is among his pick of the Gameweek 5 Falling Stars.

HeelsOverHead has been delving into the history books to see which of the current crop of Premier League players have the best track record of hattricks and braces. Turns out there are nine current Premier League players who managed a hat-trick last season. Find out who they are here.

The penny has long since dropped that the bonus point system favours defenders. But could this mean we experience the first season where defenders become the highest scorers in FPL? Going into Gameweek 5 Ryan found that nine teams had a defender as their highest scoring player. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?

One of this week’s most popular hot topics, with 30 votes at the time of writing, was Portsmouth Bubblejet’s epic look at the best rotation options over the coming weeks. Certainly plenty to ponder there as we look to prepare our teams for the weeks ahead.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHeads’ Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, now has five out of the 23 teams that entered in the top 1,000,000. Bales of Fury continues to lead the league with an overall rank of 344,013.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix‘s Friends Life competition the three league leaders are Forca, Daniel and Thomass.

Meanwhile, the five league leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things…. leagues are TheRealAVB, Tommy Tour, LawnDart, Mind over Mata and Binij.

LawnDart topped Torres Magic’s Early Bird league with a score of 64. Just 14 survivors remain, but entry is still open for more to join. In his Last Man Standing league 847 are left.

Those successfully traversing the It’s A Long And Winding Road (LAWR) H2H leagues are TommyTour59, Turbo Dog, IAmSuarez, Beric, Super Hans, ManAmongst and DonTheSpecialOne. TommyTour59 is also the LAWR main league leader.

Elsewhere, the 552-strong UEFA FFS FA Cup kicks off this week with its preliminary round. Team allocations and the Preliminary Round Draw will be posted on the FFS Uefa website by Friday, Sept 27.

Didn't see the MUN v LIV game last night but I hear that Sakho was not looking at all comfortable and made a few errors.

Toure safe for a start this weekend?

To be fair, Sakho was worst in the opening 10 mins. He settled a bit after that and made some excellent blocks.

      I fear for my Kolo.

Grauniad said that they played 3412 last night

Sakho, Toure and Skrtel as the CB's

Can't see him playing that at the weekend, but you never know

Either way, Toure seems to have the RB spot til Johnson is back, so they're not really competeing for a CBV slot (unless Wisdom comes in)

Yeah he was shaky.. Rodgers shouldn't change his position for every game though, difficult enough for him to adjust to a new league already.

Very few City players in people's Wildcard teams. Surely Villa game is a plum fixture for them to knock in a few.

Yeah I think Negredo is way down on the radar. He could really announce himself in that game.

Unless Dzeko starts and Negredo is saved for the Bayern game.

I did Negredo > Rooney for a -4 last week (at bloody 11.27). Wasn't as shambolic as it could have been I suppose.

Main concern at time was just no idea whether Negredo was going to start each match and that will probably continue until Dzeko is injured.

Both a bit unsure of starts, surely. How long is Silva out? Negredo is great and will do well basicallly whenever he plays, but surely at danger of being rotated.

Jovetic in the picture now too...

There has been a lot of opinions on Hits.

Lets go from an experience point of view.
What was your experience of taking hits the previous seasons?. Did it really help to build a better for the future and amass a lot of points or was it an utter failure?

I took a few hits in the first half of the season. I think 6 out of 8 paid off.

I'm still not an advocate of them though.

I took 4 hits last year and about half payed off. This season I have already taken an 8pt hit and that paid itself off in the first week. Currently on my second 8pt hit as a result of injuries and its likely that will pay off too.

Suarez played better and looked more dangerous, however quite a fair few chances and half chances fell Studge's way. I'd say the majority of time Suarez was deeper but he got into the box just as much as Studge. I think he is worth the extra if you take into account set pieces and the fact that he doesn't get injured as much.

I'm pretty set on a -4 this week to take Rooney in for Benteke but how do I fund it?

      a) Walcott to Lallana
      b) Walcott to Arnautovic
      c) Soldado to Lambert
      d) something else

      have 0.3 in the bank

If I do a or b i'll do Suarez for Soldado or Giroud next week but if I do c then i'd do Walcott for Ozil next week

      Any advice appreciated!

Don't know how he looked but he assisted a goal. There was a video a couple of days ago where Mark Hughes talked about him very positively and said he was going to get better and better.

Stoke's attacking options are so limited (Crouch scored his 4th goal in 35 games last night), I don't see how he could afford not to gamble on Arnie.

My starting 11. I have only Redmond on the bench and he could not start.

Am I in danger not to have 11 out fielded players this week. Already made a 4pt hit and want just to go with it. Deal with Tekekek next week.

        Mig
        Hang Lovren Vidic Coleman
        Ozil Lamps Brady Whitts
        Rooney Sturridge
        bench: Redmond, Benteke, Wisdom.

Actually I like my first 11 but if I go down to possible 9 I would we worried. Thoughts appreciated.

Nah as great as Suarez is, Lukaku with regular starts would be beast and Spurs look very strong at the back this year. People here seem to think Chiriches or Kaboul will take Dawson's place but I really don't see it, and Zab is just a great player so i'd go without Suarez

Showed that he's better than Valencia and Young put together. Imo if he gets regular starts he will hands down be the most value for money player in fpl. Couple of dangerous crosses, sharp on the ball, a few wayward shots, made a couple of mistakes but all in all we know that when he's on it he's gonna be first choice. If he was a definite to start this week I'd get him in a heartbeat but I have a feeling Moyes will stick with dependable Valencia for now, however Nani may play left wing

I suspect that from here Lukaku will match Giroud - could be a route to freeing a bit of dosh for the back. BUt very strong

          Sturridge RVP (c) Giroud

          Subs: Daniels Ivan JWP Chester

.7 in the bank. Plan is if RVP doesn't play Ivan will come off bench

It seems RVP is your only concern( besides Chester I guess, who can be dealt with later) , although your midfield seems quite weak in my opinion

Personally, I'd bring in Rooney. Looks to be in good form. He's my captain for this week. Surely if United put a couple past West Brom, Rooney will be involved in at least 1 if not all of the goals.

RVP on the other hand probably won't start, and if he does feature, it probably won't be long enough for him to do anything. I feel that Moyes won't risk him, and will save him for the CL match

On a Wc and swapped Mirallas to Barkley, which makes sense considering the price difference.

But do I feel Mirallas will start to score

Yup same here, I had both but had to finally move Mirallas to get others in and free up cash.

I do feel that one of these weeks he will have a big scoring game or two.

Waiting in my hospital room. I have an ACL reconstruction knee op in a couple of hours and Im starving.

          This is my current draft

          Boruc (Marshall)
          Terry Baines Lovren (Wilson Faye)
          Eriksen Ozil Arnautovic Barkley (Amalfitano)
          Suarez Rooney Negredo

Currently sitting on Giroud but like Negredo too. As much as I'd like Michu cant do it as it messes with my other wants.
I have the option of swapping Wilson and Amalf to Dawson and Ravel and play 4 at the back. Seems crazy to play 4 at the back though.

Not if one of them is Baines, 4 at the back is a viable option.

4 at the back is a seriously viable tactic IMO. I'm moving to 4-3-3 for a few weeks.

Wilson concerns me slightly - he's only been playing because Palacios injured himself in the warm up in GW1 otherwise he'd have been on the bench, Palacios is fit now (came on for the last 25 minutes against Arsenal and played the full match last night). If Pieters is out for a while then he should still play but long term he strikes me as a risk. Price is right though.

Thanks for the info, i didn't know this. I was personally looking at Ben Davies too, he is taking a few corners, but Taylor is coming back and who knows what will happen there.
I will probably get Wilson in however, he is looking really solid, and his versitility may keep him in the squad a bit longer.

morning chaps, got a dilema and half. walcot out for 4-6, benteke out for 4-6 and rvp doubtful. I figured out of those 3 I could gamble and hope that rvp plays and then even though I don't do 4pt hits, to get Walcott and benteke out for 2 players of equal value a 4pt hit could be beneficial and im resigned to that that is whats needed this gw. front 7 are

Walcott ben-arfa Nolan ward-prowse whittingham (weak mids I know, work in progress)
            rvp benteke bent

question is which mid and which forward do I bring in. generally want to bring 2 in that have good next 6 fixtures. with benteke and Walcott out and my current bank I've got a maximum of £22.8m for the 2 players.

            Thanks for advice chaps

I had exact same headache with those 3 players. For what it's worth I took a hit and did Michu & Giroud in for Benteke & Walcott. Debating whether to do a -8 for the first time ever and get Rooney in for RVP, guess I will wiat for tomorrow's pessers. Far too late in week to play the wildcard having missed all the price changes.

Question:- why has Suarez price not risen? He's had circa 90k+ net transfers in this week I'd say and still 10.9.

Is it frozen as he just came out of the red? Or something else?

Not got him yet but anticipating a huge price rise, so wondering when/if it may start.

Sunderland vs Liverpool they are at home, DiCanio gone so whatever tension was in the dressing room cleared up. I can see one of those caretaker performances on the horizon.

I was all set from Soldado to Suarez, but starting to consider Aguero.

Good discussion topic. The old cliche is 'never bench never captain' for Baines. But this season I'm not so sure. Even without clean sheets his attacking play is clearly being rewarded by the BPS. As last week showed he is clearly the main man set piece wise. I think that he is now a viable captain choice for easy home games.

Agreed. Basically in a game where Everton get a cleanie it wont take much for him to walk away with the 3 bonus as well.

I just have to find a way to get him in! Probably means ill have to hang on to Soldado over getting Rooney. Not sure i like that.

                  This.

Currently bringing in Walker instead of Baines to allow me to upgrade to Studge/Soldado to Rooney/Suarez/Aguero if needed.

If he had scored 8 or 9 points again then yes viable option.

I don't think you used enough variations of discuss in your post.

I did notice that afterwards - but it worked, must be a keyword so mods picked up on it straight away. My first green post 🙂

I did try to start the how long to take a hit for discussion last week, twice, but my post's were largely ignored but Greenwindmill started it again and got it hot topic'ed and even got a community mention!

Yes. All players carry the risk of blanking but he is arguably more explosive than many of the options being considered

            A) Suarez -4

            or

            B) Play Whittingham

              IMO:

B - Ya Ya is nailed on and Lukaku will surely take over from Jelavic who has not been great for some time now.

Lukaku will benefit from his physical presence, and with Baines whipping in cross after cross, he is sure to benefit.

              very shame 🙁

wondering for how long Ramires is gonna be out. This situation may nail Lampard down for couple of upcoming GWs

            Dawson / Coleman/ Mertesacker / Collins

            Who to bench?

I'm thinking Dawson bench'd as I see Chelsea scoring...

On the other hand, West Ham have Hull so Collins may keep that cleany
