Southampton’s displays under Ronald Koeman have been one of the success stories of 2014/15 so far. Few believed the Saints were capable of replicating last term’s eight-placed finish after a handful of their leading lights followed Mauricio Pochettino through the exit door but Koeman’s canny dealings in the transfer market have steered his side into third spot after seven rounds of fixtures.

Whilst Graziano Pelle has hit the ground running as a replacement for Rickie Lambert, fellow new boy Dusan Tadic has yet step out of Adam Lallana’s 2013/14 shadow. The latter served up 178 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game last year, courtesy of nine goals, nine assists and 20 bonus points, whereas Tadic – who arrived on the back of 28 goals and 29 assists in his two seasons with FC Twente – has mustered just a trio of assists so far.

With spot-kick and dead-ball duties in his favour, the Serbian playmaker certainly has the upcoming fixtures to improve. Home showdowns against Sunderland, Stoke and Leicester, allied with trips to Hull and Villa in the next five, look tailor-made for the 7.5-priced, 2%-owned midfielder to finally make an impact before the schedule takes a turn for the worse in Gameweek 13.

With that in mind, we compare Tadic’s displays to Lallana’s from last season and also cast an eye over his displays relative to this term’s main men in the midfield bracket.

Gimme Nacer 'second striker' Chadli or Gyfli 'shoot on sight' Sigurdsson for much less money any day.

This is what I'm thinking. I know the stats look good, and had Christina have a pop at me for saying this but, Tadic is not the solution for midfields that need a freshen up imo

I can see the statistical argument, absolutely. And i am certain he'll do well.

Buuuttttt, he just has a touch of Coutinho about him at the moment. If he was 6m I would be happy to punt away, but when he's 7.5m I am expecting big or regular returns and at the moment he ain't inspiring me with confidence.

Unsurprising, really. He's doing his talking on the pitch and he's like a new player now. They didn't really get to see the real Chadli in his debut season amid the shambles at WHL.

Would be horrible if he was vilified for the club lacking any real leadership when he's only a young man himself.

Hard to say really. I was expecting longer, but never expected a start for the u21s already.

2 weeks is Burnley at home, so that'd be very tempting! After that, there isn't really a stand-out fixture to get him for. Just consistently half-decent games.

    Very very interesting article.

Just judging by what I've seen of Tadic this season he looks pretty expensive for what he has to offer, but I will probably have to watch him some more after reading this.

Stats can be funny though and differ very much from one player to another for many many reasons, so I remain skeptical.

I have watched him a few times this season, very good and rather unlucky.

I wish I had him for the next run of fixtures, obviously if he doesn't perform over the next 4 then time to get rid but he is a good choice as any other midfielder with the fixtures

      • 12 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

He's a potential explosion imminent. 😕 But remains unproven and owned by few. With only 5 fixtures worth owning for, the risk of not getting is minimal right now.

Rolando Aarons is due back for GW 10. Could be good news for Newcastle, good news for Cisse and good news for those looking for a cheap midfield punt in a couple of weeks

      Obertan....

Never thought I'd say it but if he produces regular performances like last gw and when he came on against stoke, the right wing is his to lose

He needs to show me a level of consistency that I've never seen from him, to even consider him. Aarons looks like he could be something special on the left flank. Worth keeping an eye on IMO

Obertan has proven in his first season that he can do a very good jon, but has lost his way the last couple of years, starting to show that form again. Aarons has potential, no doubt but it's extremely unlikely he'll be thrust straight into the first team

If Aarons hadn't injured his hammy, it was very likely that he would have started the game against Stoke. The Geordie's love this kid.

Disagree there pal, would have been off the bench. Purely because of Pardews history with bedding young players. He won't walk into the starting 11. I wouldn't save love him, he's a decent looking option but so was Sammy 2 seasons back....

Two different opinions I guess. The pressure was certainly on pardew to start Aarons and there was a lot of noise from the press for Aarons to start after his super sub goal and assist cameo against Palace. He then went and scored on his debut for the England U20 side. The hype around him is substantial..just wait and see 🙂

was wandering opinion which national team one would prefer to stick with, if had to depend on these 5 players from each national team...? 🙂

senegal has a very very nice front 4 w/ these...
4 forwards in cisse, demba ba, Diouf, Sakho of which one could play in the Midfield w/ Diame behind...

Ivory Coast looking solid as well, altho at WC they didnt perform up to par imo.
3 forwards in Bony, gervinho and kalo w/ Yaya and Diomande behind in midfield...

Cisse started, Ba and Sakho benched. I think Diouf is injured.

Mane is looking threatening, but keeps losing the ball on the final dribble.

feck, wat flexibility to have both ba and sakho bench! who started then along cisse?

an offensive minded coach thinking 4-3-3 could do wonders w/ those attacking players that senegal has. imagine cisse-sakho-ba upfront and in midfield you make diouf play in midfield w/ Mane. if trained well, could perfrm.
