The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

      I decided to skip CHE defence at the beginning and observe how it will be settled by Jose. And I'll probably go for one after 5-6 GWs or sth like this...

      Don't like Debuchy from the beginning either tbh. I'd rather go for Palace coverage in Ward.

          I'm a Saints fan, personally, I hope he starts, but New manager = new formation and we have lots of CMs and we have three places to be filled by three of Schneiderlin, Davies, Cork, JWP, Reed and Taider. We've played about with all of them in pre-season for our mid-field three. I have no idea who's going to start though.

              Yeah, Most of out team is pretty uncertain. The only players nailed on our Back 4 (and we're still looking to strengthen CB, so maybe not for long), Pelle upfront & Tadic on the wing. Having said that, Davis has been involved in almost every pre-season game in CM (certainly more nailed on than Wanayma, more threat too).
              A hidden gem could be Isgrove for only 4.5. He's an academy product been involved on the wing opposite Tadic in every pre-season match - it looks like Koeman rates him, but I'm waiting to see if he actually starts against Liverpool before picking him (again, we've been linked with multiple wingers as well, so who knows what our team will look like come transfer deadline day).

          If Evans or Terry get injured/dropped, then bring in Jones/Cahill for the same price. I like the team alot.

        And i wouldn't worry about your 4 mil defs, your hardly going to rotate any of them with your awesome starting 11! And if one of your 11 gets a reasonable injury, that's what your free transfers are there for. I hate having money on the bench, personally.

        Wouldn't want to play Wanyama or any other 4./5 million subs anyway, if you have such a good well balanced starting 11 you have to compromise on the bench. Try and upgrade your bench you end up damaging your starting 11 in my opinion.

          There are 4.0 defenders and 4.5 midfielders who are better value and more likely starters though.

          Plus you lose the advantage of rotating through tough fixtures, you're probably a FF rookie so I suggest you look into getting the best out of your squad rather than getting the best out if your starting eleven.

            I don't consider it a risk pal, i got in the top 10k last year and rarely touched my bench to be honest. Every season is different though so maybe i was just lucky.

            I don't think he's a rookie, his team looks spot on.

        Elliot would start if Krul was injured 😉

        But, yeh, you're right about the 2 defenders. It's a bit of a risk.

          Could drop Giroud to a 7 million to gain an extra million to add 2 x 4.5 defenders to your bench if you were that worried. Remy would be the obvious choice but i'm not sure if he is even match fit.

            No, I don't think he is.

            My team 2, with Bojan, gives me a stronger bench. But then the obvious gamble is that Bojan carries his pre-season form into the Prem. And we know from years' past that often that just doesn't happen ...

            But there's always a bit of a gamble with anything isn't there? So maybe I should just flip a coin!

              Problem with Bojan, or so i am informed...during his time in Italy and Holland he rarely lasted longer than 60 minutes, and it's actually looking like he's been playing on the right side with Arny or Odemwingie on the left.

              For all Villa are awful, i really like Weiman and Aghbonlahor for 5.5. They do play every week and usually last the full match, especially while Benteke is out.

              Team 1 is my verdict. Hate having money on the bench, i would rather have it in the bank pal. There is no right and wrong way, it's all about luck to be honest.

      I like team 2 looks very balanced just Chambers might only get 1 week and my feeling on Costa is he's to hot headed and might see red....

      Maybe a Crystal Palace defender to rotate with Ferdinand in case Chambers is on bench?

      Good keepers.
      Defence is awful. Cameron isn't nailed on and I wouldn't want to have to play a £4m defender every week.
      Think Giroud or one of the mids has to be downgraded to improve the defence. There's many decent mid priced midfielders and forwards so it shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement

          O'Shea is good but Van Aanholt is meant to be very attacking so I'd go with him.

      Looks good, Clyne should be a really good pick if Saints doesnt ultimately fail.
      Not liking the Krelliot solution ,only 15 CS in the last 2 seasons together.
      Would prefer having Costa & Eriksen, over Hazard//Dzeko

        Thanks Steady. Krelliot isn't ideal, but Newcastle got more CSs than Stoke last year.

    Any thoughts? Worried about the 2x 4m defenders, and 2x 4.5m midfielders - but not sure the extra 0.5m/1m I'd need to spend warrants downgrading one of my starting 11?

          I would try to find the extra to move one of those to Siggy or another 6m.

          Perhaps Hazard > 9m (Fabregas a good shout) and Debuchy > 5.0m

          But up to you.

      Awesome. I've gone very similar. Same main front 7, Terry and keepers but Marney for Davies and Hutton, Coloccini, Cameron and Taylor.

      Is it worth downgrading Davis to bump one of your £4m up at there are a lot of options at £4.5m.

      I got rid of Ferdinand as I'm nervous about fitness.

      Coutinho great player but only steady on FPL so i would consider him a risk, could work though. Would prefer Eriksen personally.

        Coutinho was a pain last season but I have faith, also .5 in the bank for Sterling maybe? Eriksen has been quiet so far in preseason (minus the freekick - yido!)

          I dunno, he hasn't played that much pre season at all, he may play but is it worth all the headaches of worrying if he'll play or not? If you want Man u back line i'd go De Gea and hes cheaper.

          Eriksen has been steady pre season but the fact he's on all set plays, minus pens, sells it for me.

    1.5 in bank which is potentially to upgrade Mata/Rambo to Sanchez or to upgrade Bojan if not (probably around GW3 or 4 but obviously flexible)

      Looks really good, Albrighton is an injury doubt though and I would not be super-confident about playing Krul every week - maybe upgrade to someone like Begovic.

        i can only afford a 4.5 GK as it stands..may have to sell either WARD or CAULKER to make room.
        what do u think of mannone? last season he was amazing...this season not so sure.
        and wat about Patrick van Aanholt? thoughts on him.

          Yeah true, it's a tough one - maybe downgrade Caulker to Ferdinand or another 4.5? Probably won't do as well but it would allow you to upgrade either Gilks or Krul.

          Sunderland's defence looks shonky but I think van Aanholt is one of the better 4.5 options because of his attacking potential.

    What do you think of this lot:

    Terry - Chester - Wisdom (PvA - Bartley)
    Ramsey - Eriksen - Sterling - Tadic (Albrighton)
    Rooney - Costa - Dzeko

    Would really like to squeeze Mata in but I cannot find the 1.5m to upgrade Tadic, since I am not willing to downgrade front 3 or Terry. Only option would be to downgrade Eriksen or Sterling to Siggy. Thoughts?

      Okay let's see.

      Downgrade DDG to Bego so yo have 0.5 in hand.

      Downgrade Eriksen to Siggy, and you have 2.5 in total. Upgrade Tadic and you'd still have 1.0, which you can use to upgrade your defence. Voila!

      The only thing I don't like is Albrighton. I know its a popular pick around here because of 4.5

      But for me, I don't like doing that. The more options you've got at hand, the better. I know a lot of people will say its a selection headache. But I'd rather have that headache, if it means I can be flexible. Its better to have the option of another player, rather than be hesitant of picking the bench fodder if you have problems getting a full team out one GW.

      I get why people are going with a 4.5 mid. But for me. I prefer spending a little bit extra and going for a 5.0 to 6.0 mid.

        Ok , thanks. There's the contrast to my comment above. I can see pros and cons with both approaches, but I do prefer a cheap bench. Over the course of the season you will need back-up players, but transfers will often free up funds to allow transfers like Albrighton to Siggy.

          Id actually swap hendo for a 5.0 and bank the cash or upgrade your defence. You'll end up taking a 4 pt hit to release the extra value at some point of you start with too many mid priced players.

            I get where you're coming from with that, & see you've done just that with yours, not sure about Barton though, that's risky - he'll either get you a goal or a red card!

            I just get the feeling Henderson is gonna come good this year the way Ramsey did last year, so I'm taking a punt on that.

            Defensively I'm looking at rotating the 4 cheapies, & swapping Chambers out for an emerging cheapie (like last year's Fonte), there's bound to be one!

      Albrighton is injured, Bruce might not play much, and I believe Lukaku will most likely miss the start of the season.

      And I think there are better players to invest 5.5 in than Debuchy. I will be waiting until later on to get Arsenal defenders.

      Too much value on your bench. Siggy, Mangala and Bojan could be an extra 4 million for your starting 11.

      Turns Henderson into Fabregas with 1 mill left over or Hazard.

      Defence (5/10) is probably too weak, Only reliable points might come from Evans and only if he can get a clean sheet. I think you need some goal threats in defence.

      Midfield (9/10) is class!

      heard that Speroni may not be nailed. Would avoid Man U def until they settle in. Would rather have a 3rd top striker than 4 big mids, unless ur gonna play 2 upfront (which is a waste of an oppurtunity imo).

        There were some suggestions and forecasts that midfielders are going to be bringing most of the points this year and not the forwards (based on the tweaked BPS).

        If I take 3rd top striker (Giroud, Sturridge) my mid is going to hurt bad and I'll end up with 2 big mids instead of 4.

        Man Utd defence... yeah that's the toughest question... They have the easiest schedule in the starting GWs so ...

        I appreciate your comment about Speroni, will do more research before the kick-off.

    Hi all. Would really appreciate some advice on the below:

    Krul / Foster
    Evans / Luis / Chambers / (Huton) / (Wisdom)
    Haz / Ramsey / Sterling / Young / (4.5 albrighton)
    Rooney / Costa / Giroud

    Considering taking out Giroud or Costa for a cheaper forward option like Bojan, and then upgrading young to another premium Mid such as Mata.

    I know chambers will likely have to go GW3 and also uncertainty on Luis but Chelsea coverage needed.

      I wouldn't put chambers, you can't plan to offload someone sometime, if you know he is not regular , avoid. Transfers are too precious to be wasted just like that.
      In the end you will have other more pressing trfs to do or chasing bandwagons
      Price rises will push a lot of ppl to press the wild button
