Welcome to the new timeslot for the Community Round-Up, where will we cherry pick the week’s best community articles, hot topics and members tables to help with those last-minute Gameweek-deadline decisions. Our selection of cuts this week include some advice on the players to draft in, those to ditch and the targets to pencil in for forthcoming Gameweeks. Our new time also allows us to look back on last weekend’s community tournaments to bring you the very latest league and head-to-head standings.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster continues to impress with his weekly three punts. At least two of his selections have notched up points on a weekly basis. Last time out both Nikica Jelavic and Stewart Downing dropped in with hauls to maintain his soothsaying run of form. Given his track record you’re advised to keep a close eye on this week’s trio. Arvin-ation is another who has impressed with his differential tipping. Here are his three attack-minded punts for Gameweek 6.

Another regular community article was launched this week when The Sarjeant published his inaugural Form Gauge. The format is simple but brilliantly effective: he analyses recent form to help us predict the results for the forthcoming Gameweek. This week he reckons there will be goals on Merseyside and in Hampshire, with a tight encounter on Humberside.

Meanwhile, Sticky Mockwell has been looking at recent bandwagons to assess whether they have matched the expectations of their new owners.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Wakey has been ferreting in his lab this week to emerge with a new invention – the Wakatronics. This new piece of kit claims to be able to assess goal-scoring threat for the forthcoming Gameweek and over the short-term fixtures. For those paying close attention to Southampton’s form, it will come as no surprise to see Graziano Pelle at the top of his list. However, his second placed striker will be sure to raise eyebrows.

Sticking with the stylish south coasters, our resident Saints expert Lucy has been looking at Ronald Koeman’s tactical switch designed to fetch his central midfielders score more goals. Her hot topic will come as welcome reading for those who have drafted in Morgan Schneiderlin ahead of the weekend encounter with QPR.

Lucy was also asking for the community’s views on the best goalkeeper combination in the coming Gameweeks. For Doosra, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski are the duo to recommend, while Yomoe favours Sunderland stopper Vito Mannone and a non-playing 4.0-priced option to save funds.

On paper, Sergio Aguero has a plum fixture with City’s trip to Hull this weekend. However, two of our contributors urge caution: 7 Shades of Smoke believes investment in Aguero may be fool’s gold, while Applebonkers has examined the Argentine’s home and away record. His findings certainly indicate he may not enjoy his visit to the KC Stadium this weekend.

Liverpool fans are understandably eager to see Daniel Sturridge back on the team sheet. According to Ludo, Fantasy managers should be welcoming him back with open arms as well, with the Reds’ upcoming fixtures handing the striker a series of potential hauls. Ludo’s analysis demonstrates that the England forward shows little mercy when he encounters minnows.

For every new recruit, there’s a departure in our squads. Manchester United forwards are top of Ryan’s list of departees. He argues that, with so many sources for goals in Louis van Gaal’s squad, we’re better off investing in strikers who hog their team’s goal output. Meanwhile, Parm is pondering ways to push Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey through the exit door.

The community is struggling to find a champion to keep up with Paul’s Scout-Picking skills. Going into Gameweek 6, the community is 45 points behind our editor and will be hoping that Giggs Boson can steer them to glory this week. He won the vote to be Gameweek 6’s Community Champion and you can see his selection right here. This week also saw a lively discussion about the best way to pick community champions, with a range of intricate alternative voting systems put forward.

Long-term strategy was another focus of the hot topics this week, with Get Yer Yayas Out using his data science expertise to debunk theories about “being due” a goal and “coverage.”

We also posed a couple of strategic questions over the past seven days. The first looked at whether holding back your wildcard can work. Greenwindmill was among those to reveal it can be both a blessing and a curse in our discussion.

Our second revolved around the jerky knees and the optimum time to ditch a player. Valargentina was among those who responded and revealed himself to be among our most patient community members, particularly with midfielders.

The Members Tables

Snevitz has constructed two notable tables this week ahead of Gameweek 6’s action. His first looks at attacking threat and offers plenty of comfort to those pinning their hopes on Graziano Pelle. His second, looking at assist potential, clearly highlights just why Stewart Downing has become an unlikely pick this week.

I turned my attention to Crystal Palace to look in detail at their new attacking verve and key goal-scoring contenders, while Granville cast his eye over the most creative defenders. Doosra, meanwhile, was looking at some of the worst defences on show so far this season in his Dodgy Defences – The Hole in the Wall table.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In @ofcprodigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks, there are four joint leaders going into Gameweek 6: Krzys, Timtastic03, Lionel’s Messy Boxers and Iniesta Fiesta.

The “Early Bird Cup”, organised by AZ, reaches the semi-final stage in Gameweek 6 where Dusan Citizen will take on Costa – The Chosen One, while AZ faces DT42, who was the quarter-finals’ highest scorer with 56 points.

The safety score in TorresMagic‘s “Last Man Standing” league was 28 in Gameweek 5. This meant 76 teams were eliminated and 1,256 progress.

The ghost ship teams sail on in Zep’s “Dead Team Challenge”, where managers make no alterations to a team all season. The leader going into Gameweek 6 is Hymie, who has 310 points, the equivalent of a top-5,000 rank.

Darko is among our community managers having a great start. He goes into Gameweek 6 topping the “Top 1,000 Any Season” and Fantasy Football Scout Members leagues with an overall rank of 418.

Elsewhere, Greek Fan has reclaimed top spot in the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league, Triggerlips clings on first in the “Long and Winding Road” main league, while Rasping Drive has a commanding 13-point lead in the “FFS Old Farts Club league” for the “oldest and wisest” members of the community.

Finally, Australia and New Zealand are the group leaders following Matchday 1 in FFS UEFA’s Hockey World Cup.

I feel uncomfortable going into this week without a West Ham forward or midfielder when United are down to youth team defenders. But it means a hit and getting rid of a nailed on, productive player like Siggy. Odds of United not giving up 3+ goals?

To be honest, I think you're right. Your defence is good enough without needing another 'expensive' addition. Get Duff/Shackell or someone of that price, and upgrade Ulloa in the future at some point?

            my original plan was

            downgrade terry to duff,

            upgrade tadic to Ozil/Ramsey

            and upgrade welbeck to pelle

that sounds pretty nice...pelle is probably a better short-term prospect than welbeck...

id also suggest you get ramsey - I feel he will return to his best very shortly

Love this team! Terry could move for Cahill/Azpilicueta if you still fancy Chelsea defence, otherwise, change Terry next week for a cheaper defender maybe 4.5-5.0 which will give you enough to possible upgrade Ulloa

        Cheers, thats a decent plan.

Had Terry originally so feels strange to keep him in a WC but fear not having chelsea defensive cover.

my other option was to downgrade tadic to downing, upgrade terry to ivan but thats a bit heavy on defense.

        1. The Count of Monte Cristo

          11 years, 5 months ago

Yeah I agree, don't need to spend THAT much on defence! You've got Baines already; and Clyne isn't that cheap.

Not a fan of that last suggestion involving Downing, even if you stick with that this week, I think you'll be fine, although if you want to get rid of Terry now, then that'll give you a FT next week not involving Terry. And if after this week, you're still happy with the team, you'll have 2FT for the following week to upgrade Ulloa?

Hope I'm making sense - about to drop off to sleep!

Looking good Gatsby (missed your reply much earlier). Personally I prefer lighter defences and heavier attacks but Ulloa really does provide good value and has good fixtures to add to his appeal. Like the Tadic pick as well!

I have Welbeck, Courtois, Cahill and Hazard. I know it seems odd not to have Costa, but I hate the guy behind the player. Upfront I have Pellé and Rooney next to Welbeck. Rooney is another one I'd like to swap, but my dislike for Costa makes things difficult. I was thinking about gettting Aguero there..

my final WC draft. Rip into it please

    Mannone, Heaton
    Bertrand, Clyne, N.Taylor, Hutton, Duff
    Hazard, ADM, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Welbeck, Falcao, Costa.

-No Aguero: not convinced on gametime with the must-win CL game mid-week & the supposed injury
-Falcao: showed promise last week and will score more goals than Rooney
    -No Chambers: suspension looming
-No WBA defence as I don't like their fixtures and still don't rate them

I like the clyne/betrand combo. Had it in an earlier draft. Manonne is a great FPL keep but after next two our fixtures are poor for a while. Hope that falcao does do the business as I'd happily bring him in, but went for aguero personally. It's obviously an easy downgrade. I think you're looking decent. The hazard pick is one which I was strongly considering. He's certainly been bubbling!

Few people may have seen this earlier but thought I'd repost to a different crowd. As there's been a lot of talk about tadic & pelle this week, I decided to watch a full re-run of the Arsenal vs Southampton game from Tuesday night to see how they fared. Also wanted to run the rule over Mané seeing as it was his first appearance.

I noted all of their shots (inside & outside box) plus chances created and touches inside the box. Data below:

    Mins Played

    Tadic 90
    Pelle 90
    Mané 70

    Touches in the box

    Tadic 5
    Pelle 3
    Mané 4

    Shots (inside/outside)

    Tadic 2 (1/1)
    Pelle 4 (2/2)
    Mané 1 (1/0)

    Chances created

    Tadic 4
    Pelle 1
    Mané 1

    Notes:

    Tadic

Creatively he looks fantastic. Constantly finding space and linking play up. He started on the left but switched with Mané on 18mins and played the rest of the game on the right (until Long came on for Mane on 70 mins and he went back to the left). In the first half he was drifting inside a lot, whilst second half he stuck out to the right and Mane seemed to play more inside. He set up a couple of decent chances, however worth noting his only two shots were a penalty and free kick. I think he should get plenty of assists, but he seems almost too unselfish, so apart from set pieces, don't think he'll score a bucket load of goals. Move on the right may help him though as he can cut onto his left foot. Koeman also has option to play long on right and tadic behind pelle. On all set pieces apart from corners on the right which Davies takes.

    Pelle

First thing to note was that Pelle hardly got a kick all game, however his two shots inside the box, one hit the post and the other he should have scored with a header from 8 yrds out from a corner that went over the bar. His two shots outside the box were high, wide and ugly. He reminds me of a giroud type player. Won't do much in the game but will get plenty of chances due to the creative players around him, so he'll score goals. They may come in bursts though and I think owners should expect runs of 2pts too. I think he's certainly viable as a third striker, but maybe not so much in second spot, i.e. alongside welbeck/ulloa. Booked in stoppage time for a clumsy foul.

    Mané

Looks a very exciting prospect. Stats above don't tell the whole story. He was constantly running in behind the arsenal defence (more so than Pelle/Tadic) and looks a handful due to his speed. Had one decent chance when he shot wide under pressure and fizzed a great ball across in the second half that no one was able to get onto. Also won the penalty for tadic. Probably too early to get him yet, but I think his pace will cause QPR's defence problems on Sat. At 6.9m he's one to monitor, but wouldn't be surprised if he starts getting a few goals/assists and looks like he could be a future bandwagon.

    Conclusion

All of tadic/pelle/mane look decent prospects. I'd say pelle for goals, tadic for assists and leave an expectant question mark over Mane. I'm currently on WC and was going to get tadic, but I think I'll hold off for now. Fantastic player but could have a bit of Silva syndrome where it doesn't translate into FPL points. I could well be proved wrong though. Pelle could score a hat trick or do absolutely nothing on sat, that's kind of player he his. I'm personally still not 100% convinced but hard to ignore with those fixtures and I’ve actually brought him in on WC for this game in particular. If Mane shows more of what he did on Tues then he'll definitely be a viable option. Hope this posts proves useful one way or the other anyway.

Yep. I chose ADM over Cesc this GW, but it's a complete waste of a FT to do that move

Its really annoying how I had Costa when he was at like 20% ownership (Bojan higher. LOL) and now im just a mere part of a whopping 60-odd %.

Having him is just like Suarez last year. Just inflates points totals and everyone has him so a haul is really nothing special.

A haul works if captain. Going against & finding a better captain is another way of winning.

    Moore & Rooney >> Bertrand & Pelle

Make sense? Just worried I have no SOT cover, and need to make room for him with another transfer...

No. Can see Moore and Rooney doing well this week with their respective fixtures.

Alternatively could do Siggy >> Downing to make room for SOT defender.

... esp with WHM playing Utd's youth defence

I was going to give Moreno one more week but just noticed that Everton have scored 2 goals or more in their first 5 games.

Which is the best transfer NEXT gw:
    A) Ramsey > Cesc
    B) Rooney > Falcao

Depending on form/injuries this weekend of course.

Really not many decent options - Rodwell and Catamole would work I think, but not too exciting points-wise.

    Am I good to go?

    Forster
    Bertrand - Duff - Williams - (chambers - Vlaar)
    Cesc - sterling - ramsey - siggy - ADM
    Ulloa - Costa ( Adebayor)

    1FT 0.0M in the bank

    OR:
    A) Adebayor - > Pelle
    B) Adebayor - > Dzeko
    C) Ramsay + Ade --> Aguero + somone cheap
    D) something else?

Im a bit lost.. Im leaning towards option Zero , that is do not do anything. but im a bit afraid of the ramsey situation.. (not as far forward as before)

Who do I start and who to captain:

    Begovic (Krul)
    Rafael, Duff, Clyne (Wilson, Manquillo)
Sterling, Di Maria, Sigurdsson, Fabregas (Puncheon)
    Ulloa, Costa, Balotelli

Want to start puncheon but feel ulloa and sigs are the two i should decide between. Although could be worth it to bench balotelli this week. Hasn't impressed so far.

    Please help!
