Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Im heading to bed following a day where two of Citys best players were injured.

But I will say this, Aguero and Silva will be back. KDB, Sterling, Bony, etc just have to make sure that there is something to come back to.

    Good night all.

Is there a general rule on numbers of hits taken for those who finish consistently high (top 40k) every year?

    1. Dr Dream
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

Dunno....I always play to average at least a hit a week every week and finish top 10k...That's always my target.

      1. Zizoulicious
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

I see, does that mean you are okay with taking multiple hits one week, then none for a while?

Yeah.....I like to change my team a lot and so it suits me fine. I try to get people to play a hit a week league every year on here but nobody actually takes me up on it.

Top 40K can have various numbers. Top 100 is normally on the safe side. Last years winner had no hits.

Big difference between top 100 and 10K so various. In big scoring seasons, hits work more.

40 transfers is the absolute maximum. Remove the first round and the two WCs and you're down to 35 rounds. 4-5 hits. Never for a defender and a couple of the hits will be in DGWs.

      1. Zizoulicious
        • 10 Years

4-5 sounds an impressively low number 🙂

Players with 1 to 4 top 10k finishes up to and including the 2013-14 season took 12-13 hits on average, and players with 5 to 7 top 10k finishes took 14-16.

But hits were less justified in 2014-15 since prices were rising more slowly - most top 100k players only took 8 or 9 hits, the top 100 averaged 5, and champion Simon March took none at all.

Still slower. Two years ago I had 110 mill by Christmas and 117.0 by seasons end...and I didn't even try for it, it just happened due to a lot of transfers for form players.

      Lukaku or Costa.

Even with Kun out I don't think Bony is guaranteed 90 mins or starts. A couple blanks and they'll try Sterling upfront or give the kid a chance.

Lukaku has great long term fixtures and does well in big games. Costa could bag you a haul against Villa and it will be easier to upgrade him to Aguero when he's back. I went with Lukaku because I own Hazard and don't want to double up on Chelsea attack in this form.

I'm assuming you own already own Pelle (or Mane).

I'm shocked on here reading some of the comments, yes I understand some have not done it and considering their options but people talking about taking a -4 to transfer out the most expensive player in the game to maybe save 0.1 with international games to go, have people not learnt anything from this international break with games still to be played, hold for now and ask again mid week would be my advice

You would think so, Kermit, but people genuinely don't learn.

They'll panic and buy in another player now to stop a £0.1m price drop and have to hope that this new replacement player doesn't get injured next week either.

Just wait till next week already, innit.

Loads of hits are going down this GW. Manic stuff!

I may have to take a 4 pointer but at least wait till the dust has settled before jumping in and getting replacements.

Even with 2 FT's this GW I won't be making any moves till next Friday.

I did gomis>pelle on monday before his rise, I never do early transfers, and I was so happy I got him before the rise and everything was dandy. Now I just look like a w*nker having sold a decent striker with good games whos playing and being left with aguero to deal with. and silva. and possibly naughton. oh boy.

So I'm hearing that Aguero is possibly out for up to 8 weeks. I'm guessing everyone has already asked this question before but I'd like a general list of players that are decent replacements for him. I'll start it off...

    1) Sturridge
    2) Lukaku

Yh i'm thinking the in form player is the player to go for until aguero comes back. It does bring Pelle into the equation also.

Only 18k have taken aguero out so far so I think the price drop will not happen tonight. Gives us all another day to think about it.
