A transfer story that broke on Friday afternoon was finally concluded on Tuesday evening, as Richarlison completed his £35m move (rising to £50m) from Watford to Everton.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder is reunited with Marco Silva, the manager responsible for bringing Richarlison to England a year ago while boss of the Hornets.

Everton’s first capture of the summer has signed a five-year deal with the club and this second link-up with Silva is significant for prospective Fantasy owners, as it was under the Portuguese manager that the young Brazilian played his best football at Watford and delivered significant attacking returns: 103 of his 125 FPL points were registered before Silva departed Vicarage Road following the 2-0 defeat to Leicester City in Gameweek 24.

There is clearly a lot of love between manager and player. Upon signing for the Toffees, Richarlison said:

I think it is going to be important for me here to be with Marco Silva again. I will learn more because I am still learning as a player and I aim to develop and grow here.

I’ve known the manager for a while obviously, so I know how he works. I developed really well with him while he was with me at Watford. It was really good working with him and one day I believe he can help me to be selected for Brazil in the full national team.

Silva meanwhile has now persuaded two boards to take a gamble on the player in less than 12 months. While for Watford the financial outlay was not as extortionate (just over £11m), the fee was a significant one for a player who was largely an unknown quantity at the time.

To convince Farhad Moshiri and co. to pay what could turn out to be over four times that fee just under a year later is indicative of Silva’s faith in the mercurial Brazilian.

Richarlison’s 2017/18 campaign was a season of contrasts. Bursting onto the scene in August following his summer move from Fluminense, the Brazilian winger scored on five occasions and registered as many assists in his first 13 appearances for Watford.

The 21-year-old winger’s excellent start to life in the Premier League mirrored his new club’s impressive early-season form, but the story after Gameweek 13 was one of frustration – particularly for the legions of Fantasy Premier League managers who drafted the mid-price midfielder (who started at £6.0m) into their squads.

In his final 25 appearances of the season, Richarlison’s sum attacking returns amounted to no goals and three assists. The tussle between Everton and Watford for Silva’s services last October appeared to have irreparably damaged the Hornets’ season but in truth, Richarlison’s own loss of form was as much down to fatigue as it was club unrest.

Starting this season with a minor price rise to £6.5m, Richarlison will have burnt his bridges with many a Fantasy manager after his finish to 2017/18.

The young attacking midfielder is a name worth considering again this season, however, particularly given the Toffees’ promising-looking start to the season. Everton play only one of last season’s top six in the first nine Gameweeks, a run of fixtures that includes home matches against Southampton, Huddersfield Town, West Ham United, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

GOAL THREAT

Just two midfielders, Mohamed Salah and Christian Eriksen, had more attempts on goal than Richarlison (95) in 2017/18. Salah, Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Zaha – since reclassified as a forward – were the only players in Richarlison’s position to have more penalty box touches, meanwhile. Only three midfielders were deemed to have had more “big chances”, too.

Between Gameweeks 1 and 12 (when Richarlison scored all of his goals), the Brazilian ranked highest among midfielders for goal attempts and touches in the opposition area.

AERIAL MENACE

Richarlison had almost twice as many headed attempts on goal (24) as any other midfielder in 2017/18. While only one of those headed chances led to a goal, the Brazilian is a rare beast among wide players in that he offers a threat in the air from set-piece situations.

Richarlison also contested more aerial duels than any other FPL midfielder last season.

SUMMER BREAK

Everton’s gifted Brazilian looked fatigued towards the end of 2017/18 – and with good cause. Not only had Richarlison featured in all 38 of Watford’s Premier League matches last season, he also played 14 league fixtures and 22 other competitive matches for Fluminense immediately prior to his arrival at Vicarage Road.

With the Brazilian top-flight running from spring to winter, Richarlison had no summer break prior to his move to England in July 2017.

A well-earned rest this summer should help Richarlison’s cause this season and the enigmatic midfielder looked sprightly in Watford’s first pre-season friendly against Koln, setting up Andre Gray’s goal.

ROTATION-PROOF?

Richarlison was one of only four FPL midfielders to feature in all 38 of their club’s Premier League fixtures last season, starting 32 of those matches.

The Brazilian started every single Watford league fixture between Gameweeks 2 and 31, featuring as a substitute on five occasions in the last seven Gameweeks as fatigue (and a lack of form) well and truly set in.

Under Silva, though, Richarlison was a sure starter, even over the busy Christmas period. Having only used the Brazilian as a substitute in Gameweek 1, Silva was to never again rotate, rest or drop Richarlison until his tenure at Watford ended in January of this year.

Silva has shrewdly downplayed the signing, perhaps to alleviate the pressure on his multi-million-pound asset, describing Richarlison as “one more player who can help us” and talking up the competition for places in the Everton squad.

Given the pair’s history, however, and the money and faith invested by Silva in the 21-year-old over the last 12 months, we can be confident that rotation is an unlikely prospect in the first months of the season at least.

Richarlison’s ability to play across the front line – he featured on both flanks and through the middle for Watford last season – would also stand him in good stead.

Richarlison’s FPL ownership has almost doubled since Everton’s bid was lodged and the Brazilian now sits in 6.6% of Fantasy squads. Rested, reunited with a manager who venerates him and lining up against favourable opposition in the first quarter of the season, we can only hope his maddening loss of form in 2017/18 can quickly become a distant memory.

Schlupp is playing left midfield in a 4-4-2, doesn't fit in a 4-3-3 and is second choice left back.

Plenty of Everton talk but lets collect our choices in one place:

    1. How many Everton players are in your side?
    2. Are you considering Richarlison?
    3. Baines or Coleman?
    4. Are you considering anyone other than Tosun, Richarlison, Baines, Coleman, or Pickford?

      3. Coleman
      4. Nah but read here that Niasse might play regularly as Silva liked him when they were at Hull C

Also, Walcott is a good option too but personally wasn't satisfied with his returns last season

I'd rather have a 6.5 forward in Chris Wood, or a 6.5 defender in Azpi than a 6.5 midfielder.

Even so I'd rather go Maddison/Jota if I was forced to pick a 6.5 midfielder.

Hi Geoff, with the manager being largely focused on attack I'm avoiding his defenders. Richarlison will get game time, and Tosun has been starting in the pre-season matches so they're good options. I'm perhaps alone is also liking Niasse at 5.5 even though he might only be used as an impact sub.

          1.) Zero.
2.) No, though I am enjoying the love-hate see-saw that is opinion on Richarlison. 6 months ago he was hated. He’s neither as bad as previously claimed or as great as currently claimed.
3.) If I had to pick, Coleman.
4.) I think Niasse bears watching. I’m not convinced of Tosun and think Niasse could unseat him if Tosun doesn’t deliver early.

So, yes, I’m not buying the Everton hype. I don’t see them keeping clean sheets with those CBs which makes 5.5 for attacking returns from Baines or Coleman a stretch for me with other/better options out there. While I do believe that they will be a better attacking team under Silva, I think it may take some time for him to figure out how all the pieces fit and for those players to gel.

          2. Yes, considering him now as 1m cheaper than Siggy, who was in my team, and feel he could be a gem under Silva.
          3. Coleman but prob not going to start with him. A little worried he could be deployed as a more conventional FB.
          4. Siggy but Richarlison is winning that one now. Stek is my set and forget 4.0 as Im not a fan of rotating keepers.

          1. I've currently got 4 (don't tell the Fantasy League police!!)
          2. Richy Rich is one of those 4.
          3. Coleman for me.
          4. Siggy, but he might become somebody else. I haven't decided yet...

2, Richarlison and Coleman. Considered Tosun, but Rich is better for my 442/532 formation.

Had Coleman since the start and ditched Siggy for Rich to save 1.0

Considering Stekel if I end up going for Ederson instead of two starting 4.5s

I'm on Richarlison and Tosun(maybe). Tosun/Wood will be my 2nd striker. I picked PVA in place of Coleman. Silva's teams aren't known for CS and hence Coleman is a big no for me.

And Baines at the back if you trust the defense. Baines over coleman for me, due to set pieces.

I've Tosun but I dont know whether i should bin or not.

Got a front 3 of Firmino, Tosun and Zaha. Want to fit Auba in there instead but trying to move players around elsewhere is killing me.

          Current squad is =
          Ryan (Bettinelli)
          Bailly/VVD/Ward (Dunk & Daniels)
          Salah, KDB, Mkhi, Cairney (Jorginho)
          Firmino, Tosun, Zaha

          £2m ITB

Reposting my thoughts on the 6.5m midfielders.

Fàbregas: Not nailed. Could be great value if he nails the pivotal role (https://goo.gl/T6C1RP), similar to Hamsik in Napoli. With no further signings, I think Fábregas/Barkley/Loftus-Cheek will compete for that role. Possible differential.

Pedro: Not nailed. Will probably play for the first few weeks in the front 3 before Willian starts playing. Hence, could be a good option for those planning early wildcards.

Milivojevic: Nailed. Easy fixtures. On penalties. Boring but secure.

Walcott: Potential for goals and assists. Proven in the EPL. Even in 2016/17 season, he scored 120 points while playing only 1900 minutes. Will he get enough time of the pitch this season? If so, he could become the best value player this season.

Sessegnon: Good history in the Championship, but I don't expect Fulham to be an attacking team. For me, wait and watch.

Maddisson: Norwich fans will swear by him. Gray and Maddisson are vying for that vacancy left by Mahrez. Lets see who gets that spot. Could be potentially interesting. If you have the guts, go for him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: Injured and ruled out for the season. Avoid.

Mata: Good option before the players from World Cup gets back to the squad. But, I would not pick an attacker from a Mourinho team.

        Elyounoussi: Unknown as of yet.

Lamela: People have been touting him as a potential bargain in fpl for years but it never really happens for him. He just doesn't get enough goals or assists to be a good pick even if he starts.

Richarlison: Exciting prospect. Had a fantastic few games with Marco Silva, and then fizzled out, so price is low. Reunited with Silva, can he regain his form?

Jota: Unknown. Many scouts are touting him as a potential bargain. I have not seen him enough to comment.

Lanzini: Injured and will probably miss entire season. Avoid.

I am currently on Richarlison. Fingers twitching for a switch.

        1. Christina.

Not too sure on that. Not sure what also needs to added? They very well be excuses but could easy be the reason. I would rather a player I had was getting chances than not. Don’t think the article has over hyped him. Do you think he is not a decent option? Going to be patches of form and dry spells, like 95% of players, timing likely to be key with him again

I haven’t got him in mine for the reason is he still young and I think he will sussed out by defenders with his late runs in the box (Fulham fan) which is how he scored a fair few of his goals. Also thinking people are looking at our team at the moment thinking we haven’t got a lot in at the moment but we’ve just signed fabri who looks pretty good, I hear Mawson could be coming in and We need to get Mitrovic over the line as well.

I think people think Wolves will adapt to the premier league better than Fulham due to the international level players they have signed, also Jota could well be OOP up front, whereas Sess is likely to stay out wide.

But the key to that is they are Kane's comments NOT Pochettino's

                  http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/11438387/harry-kane-keen-to-start-premier-league-season-with-a-bang

Of course every player wants to play every game.
But do you seriously think a manager is going to risk injury and fatigue to his star man?

You are right... if you have a team with no City attackers or midfielders, no Mendy, no Spurs full backs, no Liverpool full backs, no Man United players, no Mane/Firmino, no Arsenal attackers except Auba and have no last minute injuries or players falling out of favor during the entire season. Good luck with that.

Maybe Dale Stephens over Masuaku if you want more of a guaranteed starter but other than that looks fine.

Could also make an argument for Cairney over Neves if Cairney is on pens.

In the first weeks of the game you don't want too much cash sat on the bench really so I disagree with the comments calling for more $$. 18M on the bench is standard.

Mourinho has said the back four at the start of the season is likely to be Valencia - Bailey - Smalling - Shaw.
Because all other defenders were involved at the WC, so they won't have much pre-season.
He said this before Valencia got injured...although he's still expected to start GW1.

          Siggy IMO.

Martial clearly wants out so will be rotated or sold by GW3 (if he even gets to play vs LEI/bri).

Ramsey could be an option but i'm waiting until GW3 to see (own Auba so didn't want early double up) also waiting to see exactly where he fits in the midfield. Not keen if he's in double pivot.

Willian is the absolute master at looking really dangerous without ever actually doing anything.

Please don't hunt me down if the opposite of all the above happens!!

Hahahah willian certainly is that mate!! Bang on there!! Yeah Ramsey was also plan for Gameweek 3 onwards when Arsenal’s fixtures look very tasty!!! I feel safer with him over mikki just if he can stay fit or not!! I already have Richarlison in atm so don’t know if id double up there tho.... deffo something to ponder!!

Ah OK - if you've got Richarlison then I'd even consider a 6.5 like Jota or Pedro? Gives you another 1m to improve elsewhere.

or you take the punt on Martial!

Oddly... My team went from having the likes of Coleman and Tosun nailed in it from the early drafts...

...to having no Everton at all. I think I've managed to come to my senses.

Don't get me wrong I have WIllian as a pick and if he looks like he's moving on I may punt Siggy.
But even the plum fixtures doesn't fill me with confidence in them.

I'm genuinely not convinced they have whet it takes.
I don't see them pushing out the likes of arsenal, united, chelsea this season and I see if being City/Liv/Spurs up top.

            7th/8th maybe

There is a direct correlation between how refined a team is and how few Everton players it has.

I was exactly the same as you.
Despite the good fixtures it is a new manager and may take time to settle.
I dumped Coleman because Everton supporters on here reminded me that silva teams are very attacking and concede a lot of goals.
I was not convinced by Tosun went Wood instead cheaper.
I did keep sigurdsson because I do expect him to be the main man.

Yeah I went Wood as well funnily enough. Keeping an eye on that knock.
But as I say may go Siggy in the end depending what happens.

What are peoples opinion on Eriksen. I don`t see him in many teams. Seems to me as a quality pick. Afraid he won`t start after the WC or are there just better options for the price of 9.5?

Lloris, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose, Tripper, Dier, Dembele, Alli, Kane possibly all rested/exhausted after going the distance in the world cup.

If Eriksen can still perform to a 9.5 value playing in a team of back-ups, then fair play to him and what a pick by those who choose him.

Too risky for me though, will definitely want him when the aforementioned players are back though.

Spurs seem to always take a while to get going, especially with Kanes so called August Voodoo. I don't see why Erikson or someone like Bavies can't get off to a flyer either. wouldn't say its risky but definitely a good point of difference to start your season with.

One of the first names on my team sheet. Consistent returns year over year.

I can’t see him not starting due to WC. The Danes were out of the competition in June.

And I’m not concerned about other Spurs players being impacted by WC. Eriksen seems capable of goals and assists regardless of who’s on the pitch.

Have Jota and Richarlison at the moment, thinking I should shift Jota out for James Maddison, he seems like he could occupy the number 10 role behind Vardy and offer up FK and assist potential with a decent view of goal. I'm not so well versed in his prospects so if any one else is considering him would you care to share your rational? Getting a little antsy here with the Wolves XI becoming increasingly crowded and likelier to share rewards imo

That's what I've done. Also think Maddison will be a better option than Jota. But impossible to know.

Agree with you that Wolves squad is getting a bit crowded. Although it seems Jota should be nailed, Maddison is even more nailed imo. Plus Foxes have pretty good fixtures.

Cheers! I reckon Jota will be nailed but with Jimenez's emergence and the signing of some players who will be keen sitting back i'm wondering if they'll share the spoils more than not and don't want to wait and find out. Wolves and Leicester I thought were pretty even in their first few fixtures but given Wolves' spending and Leicester's likely putting Maddison in the number 10 role I think I should go with the latter and instead load up on cheap Wolves defensive assets.

Jota is surely nailed. He could even be playing OOP if they don't bring in another decent striker. I've had my eye on Maddison since a NCFC regular told me he was too good for Leicester. The only problem is that I think they'll start slowly. But so many good 6.5 mid options, it would be an easy transfer if they start to look coherent.

Don’t rate Maddison, it’ll be a wait and see. He was the best of a bad bunch at Norwich. Besides Vardy likes the long ball behind the defender so the ball will go sailing by Maddison

Been unsure about Richarlison but think this article has convinced me to start the season with him. Everton and Silva dont pay that much money without seeing him as a key player. I also didn't realise about the no summer rest at the start of the season, so the fatigue is understandable. Given Evertons opening fixtures now is a better time than any to give him a trial.

Agree with this. His head dropped after his mentor left & all those extra games, playing in a new league at such a young age... now he's rested with those fixtures he's in my team for sure.
