As more of the premium Fantasy Premier League assets return to their clubs following the World Cup, the debate over which of them to include has ramped up this week.

Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard have all been at the centre of discussions while Everton seem to be the team everybody is talking about.

Here’s the latest from our community this week.

Community Articles

WesMantooth went searching for value this week and did an in-depth comparison between points-per-million and value added per million.

Rossi3254 broke down the arguments for and against Harry Kane, while MathewNixon examined the potential impact of Marco Silva on Everton’s FPL assets.

The Hottest Topics

The old debate of form versus fixtures was the subject of much debate this week as Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) continues to perform well ahead of some difficult matches with West Ham in 2018/19. Original Pirate Material believes he can still score against the big teams.

With Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) returning to match action with Liverpool this week, naturally there were several conversations concerning the Egyptian. Sanchit put out a request for the pros and cons of owning Salah and whether there were any advantages to leaving him out.

Deulofale was keen to sample thoughts on which assets outside of Salah (and Alexis Sanchez) managers are consdering captaining in the first two Gameweeks.

Another big-name player to get the ‘yes or no’ treatment this week was Sergio Aguero (£11.0m). Mikeharbrw began the discussion on whether the Manchester City man is worth having this season. Final Fantasy XI asked the same question of Eden Hazard.

With Liverpool’s defence looking strong this year, Berbinho’s Forehead drew attention to the case for investing in goalkeeper Alisson Becker (£5.5m). On the other side of the river Mersey, plenty of Everton options have been catching our eye too.

Finally, we have already started to cast our minds a few weeks into the 2018/19 season as Geoff asked the community when they were planning on using their first Wildcard.

Members Tables

manchesterfordutd looked at a way of comparing midfielders for their ability to either score or assist in his latest table.

Meanwhile, choppers13 analysed the form of players from the second half of 2017/18 to see which of them can pick up where they left off next term.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

Keep swinging between thinking this team is great and think it’s awful , can I get some constructive criticism ?

    Ederson (Speroni)
    Mendy Robertson Coleman (Cedric) (Wan-Bissaka)
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Deulofeu (Cairney)

If Hazard leaves or looks like he won’t be fit for GW1 he’ll be a straight swap for Sanchez
    Firmino Zaha Tosun

I'd probably just go Sanchez over hazard from the start anyway, could be up top and had a summer off

They've been showing all Top 6 full games from last season on tv and I've been watching a few of them.

1 thing that struck me was how Salah had things fall perfectly for him a lot of times.

The Tot game where he dribbles a few defenders and the ball ricochets off a few shins and still falls into his path, the Ederson clearance directly to him, his shot deflecting off Mustafi's calf and curls around Cech etc are a few examples

I just can't see Salah getting as much good luck next season and will gamble on him not scoring as much so I'm starting without him especially since Firmino won't be fully fit by gw 1.

he also missed quite a few chances last season....plus I always believe a good player can make his own luck

Salah gets lots of chances, if he improves his goal conversion then it would be worse not to have him in your team this season than the last.

Salah’s goal conversion was one of the highest last season. 22%. Pretty sure it was the second highest after Vardy

          • 12 Years

I think his conversion rate will regress to his career average. He was lucky last season

But did you also see the volume of chances Salah got? He missed at least 20 Big chances last season so a few of those getting a bit of a lucky deflection and he could've scored more! Can see him getting 25 goals again easily and probably exceeding that. I am a Liverpool fan so I'm biased! 🙂

Also had many he made that he didn't score. With his confidence now sky high he'll be putting them away. If you're going off lucky/bad goals, I'd stay well clear of Jota; over half his goals wouldn't have happened in prem

    7. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, a lot of the time it felt like defences were gifting him goals. Hard to say whether that would remain the same through fear or regress, but I very much doubt it'll get easier for him, even if he improves.

I reckon its the best time to gamble on Salah blanking with Firmino unlikely to start or being matchfit by gw 1.

    Ederson
    Aké - Cedric - Coleman
    Salah - Eriksen - Sané - Sanchez
    Zaha - King - Arnie

    Bench: Stekelenburg - Kaikai - Wan-Bissaka - Bednerak

Bench not that strong. But considering Wildcarding my team GW 4 or so when the WC hitters are all back and playing

He'll certainly get a lot more game time this season, but he'll definitely be subject to some rotation, so you should ensure you have decent bench options.

I may be wrong but I've been under the impression that Keita is a fantastic player IRL but not necessarily so for FPL. Will set up a lot of goals but often one pass prior to assist.

He's got a good record for goals and assists at his previous clubs and will be playing as one of the advanced forwards in the Liverpool central three. There may well be a few occasions where he passes to Firmino who sets up Salah etc. but he'll also get his fair share of goals and assists as well. The OP essentially asked how he compares in a two player contrast with Mikhi as his alternative and I think Keita will win that comparison hands down.

the biggest winners will be established European sides who, with the move to 48 entrants are now pretty much guaranteed a place. every world cup 1-2 big sides (e.g. Italy, Netherlands) miss out on the world cup which will become a thing of the past. I think we wont see a non-European winner for many years

I've tried to build a squad without any rotation risks, apart from Kamara who I'm never going to use, and AWB who is only 4m. As a result, I don't have any City players, but I can easily do Sanchez -> KdB in GW 3. No premium strikers because none look like good options to start the season with - I'll probably reassess when I wildcard sometime within the first 10 GWs. Thoughts?

    Foster - Ryan
    Robertson - Azpi - Cedric - Bamba - AWB
    Salah - Sanchez - Eriksen - Ramsey - Richarlison
    Tosun - Arnie - Kamara

It's good. I like having one premium striker personally. No city is bold but as you say Sanchez is an easy downgrade to KDB or whoever looks more secure to start out of mahrez/Sane/silva etc

      flawed logic imo.
fwds too weak, and you say you haven't included premiums as they "don't look like good options to start with" but you've 2 mid pricers of which 1 is a rotation risk and the other has poor fixtures

      1. stat
        8 years, 1 month ago

I'd rather have Arnie + Sanchez than Auba + 6.5m mid. West Ham didn't struggle to score against bigger sides last season and with Pellegrini and attacking reinforcements that should be even less of a problem this season. There's a difference between spending 11m on a player whose first couple of fixtures are dodgy and spending 7m on one, as the expectations are much lower. I'm willing to take the risk on Tosun because he might be on pens and his fixtures are fantastic.

Some of the numbers especially for smaller nations are seriously flawed because groups of managers will join just to win the country as kind of a piss take.

Take Pitcairn Island for instance where the descendants of the crew of HMS Bounty live. The island has a population of around 50 people but has 381 FPL managers. 😉

I once missed out on 1st place in my country (Republic of Ireland by 2 points and finished 2nd 🙁 but that will not stop me from trying for the top spot.

It's quite weird when you think about it considering theres no price for the overall winner in a country. Really wonder why some people do that. Maybe just to see the no.1 ranking somewhere:) Finished 42nd or so in Nigeria last year. Aiming for a top 20 finish this time around. Lot more fpl players here than I initially thought

The 27-year-old [Alonso] is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "We are working on some new things - a new formation and a new style. He wants us to press high and he wants the team together for possession of the ball.

"A lot of the things we have just started working on but it is looking good. I don't have to run as much as last year! It's good, more for us to defend and when I can, try and help the team in attack."

Laca is an interesting one...Arsenal's first couple of fixtures don't get me too excited though.

Think the likes of Auba + Laca are good picks from the start?

Tosun has better fixtures than Arnie though?

Not convinced by Tosun. Arnie has that arrogance about him he can score against anyone
