As more of the premium Fantasy Premier League assets return to their clubs following the World Cup, the debate over which of them to include has ramped up this week.

Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard have all been at the centre of discussions while Everton seem to be the team everybody is talking about.

Here’s the latest from our community this week.

Community Articles

WesMantooth went searching for value this week and did an in-depth comparison between points-per-million and value added per million.

Rossi3254 broke down the arguments for and against Harry Kane, while MathewNixon examined the potential impact of Marco Silva on Everton’s FPL assets.

The Hottest Topics

The old debate of form versus fixtures was the subject of much debate this week as Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) continues to perform well ahead of some difficult matches with West Ham in 2018/19. Original Pirate Material believes he can still score against the big teams.

With Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) returning to match action with Liverpool this week, naturally there were several conversations concerning the Egyptian. Sanchit put out a request for the pros and cons of owning Salah and whether there were any advantages to leaving him out.

Deulofale was keen to sample thoughts on which assets outside of Salah (and Alexis Sanchez) managers are consdering captaining in the first two Gameweeks.

Another big-name player to get the ‘yes or no’ treatment this week was Sergio Aguero (£11.0m). Mikeharbrw began the discussion on whether the Manchester City man is worth having this season. Final Fantasy XI asked the same question of Eden Hazard.

With Liverpool’s defence looking strong this year, Berbinho’s Forehead drew attention to the case for investing in goalkeeper Alisson Becker (£5.5m). On the other side of the river Mersey, plenty of Everton options have been catching our eye too.

Finally, we have already started to cast our minds a few weeks into the 2018/19 season as Geoff asked the community when they were planning on using their first Wildcard.

Members Tables

manchesterfordutd looked at a way of comparing midfielders for their ability to either score or assist in his latest table.

Meanwhile, choppers13 analysed the form of players from the second half of 2017/18 to see which of them can pick up where they left off next term.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

Thoughts on a Silva Mahrez double up (+Ederson..) for the first couple weeks? Better bet than starting with Auba Ramsey double up surely?

If Willian looks set to start for CHE, i may get him instead

    OK, comments / suggestions please:

    Ederson
    Cedric - AlexArnold - Lowton
Sane - Salah - Richarlison - Deulofeu (Mkhitarian from gw 3)
    Zaha - Firmino - Aubameyang

    + rubish bench

TAA may not start GW1, same with firmino apparently. even if firm were to start, I think you may be better off with arnie / cheapie. quite a good team, but knda week defence (other than ederson). also even when back and ready to play, taa could likely get rotated with clyne at RB

I'll make this it's own post....

why do so many people think richarlison is a better option than sigurdsson? I just do not see. definitely gotta prove it to me for a few weeks before I consider getting him. was awful end of last season, never gets baps, and sigurdsson surely nailed on all set pieces and playing behind striker...?

Because Sigurdsson was terrific last season with his 96 points?

Do bear in mind that Everton were pretty god-awful for most of last year. Big Sam and his defensive tactics giving them 1 goal per game in a lot of cases, and playing Sigurdsson too deep for him to get meaningful attacking returns. Sigurdsson also wasn't on all set pieces last season I might add.

Silva is a far better manager, and Everton can be a lot better going forward this year as he's alot more of an attacking manager as well. Add that to Sigurdsson's set pieces and the fact he'll like play directly behind Tosun/ the rest of a front 3...

But they're not the same price.

That doesn't really have anything to do with that argument; I was making the point that Sigurdsson should be hard pressed not to far outscore his 96 points from last season.

But still, I won't be convinced by Richarlison unless I see some consistency, and none of signs of huge blank runs like last year. Also Richarlison is the opposite of a BAPS magnet

The only thing I fancy more in Richarlison is his price. Concerning the rest, I prefer Siggy all the way.

1m cheaper. Should have even more chances than he did at Watford to score goals

Fair point. I'd say sigurdsson will be provider for a lot of chances at everton, though, and should also chip in with goals. But, if he ends up playing too deep, or isn't getting attacking returns like richarlison, it's an easier swap to go sig --> rich than rich --> sig

Fair enough. Gone for Sig due to the reasons above myself, as well as Everton having some great opening fixtures, but sigurdsson is an easy switch to good players with even better fixtures like ramsey and mhki

        1. stat
          8 years, 1 month ago

Actually tempted to get Siggy instead of Ramsey, meaning I would have Siggy + Richarlison + Tosun.
Obviously Siggy's performance isn't affected by my selection of Richarlison and Tosun but I can't get over the psychological barrier of seeing three Everton attacking options in my team.

I know. He did well even from a deeper position last season, but my point is that none of these players warrant a placeholder this early. They're all wait-and-sees at best. People are exaggerating these mid-priced midfielders who had very average seasons last time out like they're going to have an instant transformation this time. How was Ramsey the seasons before last?

Currently got Jagielka only due to value and Everton fans think he will start. Probably wait and see for rest. No one sticks out really.

Lot of people got Tosic but he scored 5 goals from 9 chances. Not going to keep that up and he's very sluggish on the ball

Expect him to possibly match his form of the first half of last season now he has had his first rest in about 18 months.

Nothing against Sigurdsson but I'd prefer the surplus 1m to improve elsewhere.

    Would appreciate some feedback:

    Alisson Stekelenburg
    Otamendi Bailly Coleman Cedric Wan-Bissaka
    Salah Sane Keita Jota Deulofeu
    Aguero Tosun Kamara

Keita is a bit of a differential which I know wont be many peoples tastes but he's looked so sharp preseason getting 3 assists without having any of Salah, Mane or Firmino playing I want to take a punt on him. This is just for the first 4 gameweeks then I'll be wildcarding.

TAA is a rotation risk with Clyne back imo. Would take Sane over Sanchez, as he plays for a much more attacking team.

I agree about Sane being a rotation risk & Sanchez nailed but i just think that Sane could get a shed load of points when he plays, as Man City are so attacking. Sanchez is unfortunate that he plays in a more defensive set up imo.

Yeah, fair point. For some reason I would risk it for an attacking player because of the potentially high returns but not so for defenders.

No. If I get another rotation risk my team cant handle rotation as well as it can now. I already have rotation risks in my team.

    How're these 15 plonkers currently looking? 0.0ITB

    Ederson Stekelenburg
    Bailly Robertson Mee Tomkins Peltier
    Salah Mahrez Silva Sigurdsson Costa
    Aubameyang Arnautovic Quaner

    - Not currently sold on Richarlison over Sig
    - Could Mahrez+Silva work out for the first couple (probably 2) GWs, before swapping out (probably) Silva?

Go premium defenders/ mids over Strikers. My team for now

      Pickford
      Shaw Davies Robertson Mendy
      Mahrez Eriksen Salah Willian Richarlison
      Aguero

    Draft #32452

    Ederson / Speroni
    Robertson / Mendy / Bailly
    Salah / Pogba / Richarlison / Mhki
    Aubs / Arnie / Zaha

    Fabianski / Kelly / Peltier / Cairney

0.5 in the bank. Unsure on Pogba and Richarlison but other than them pretty happy

    A)

    GK: Fabi/ Foster
    DEF: Bailly / Robertson / Coleman (W-B / Peltier)
MID: Martial / Salah / Sane / Richarlison / Stephens
    ATTK: Firmino / Kane (Kamara)

    B)

    Possible changes:

DEF: Alexander-Arnold or Gomez / Shaw / Danilo or Stones
MID: Eriksen / Mahrez / Salah / Richarlison / Stephens

Would you stick with A, or implement the B changes?

    Thanks in advance.

Anybody care to offer any advice?

Overall pretty happy, some niggles still, but based on first 6 GW's only, expect to WC around that time.

    Patricio
    Robbo Azpi Shaw
    Salah Sanchez Richarlison Neves
    Aguero Arnie Tosun

    Fab Cairney Wan-Bissaka Cedric

Some concerns on Everton defence with Pickford rumoured to be on the move, and maybe no need for Richarlison and/or Tosun, perhaps opportunities to bring in a different 7.0 forward, or like priced mid.

But, good options to downgrade/change if need be.

Sorry lads, posted the team further up but is there any real places in this team:

    Ederson Stekelenburg
    Bailly Robertson Mee Tomkins Peltier
    Salah Mahrez Silva *Sigurdsson* Costa
    Aubameyang Arnautovic Quaner

where 1.0 could be used to upgrade?

Looks alright but a cheap keeper and another top defender will look better, maybe give Shaw a run too

I think you have one to many cheapies
Personally I’d sacrifice Siggy to a 6.5 probably Richarlison and upgrade Quaner to King or find another .5 to get Tosun or Arnie

Something like that depending you you fancy

Meet the worst bench known to man. Decent starting team though.

    Lossl
    Mendy Robbo Bailly Coleman
    Salah Sanchez Mahrez Richarlison
    Firmino Arnie

    Hamer, Wan-Bisaka, Stephens, Kamara

I actually really like this team!

Only 2 mid priced options. Cheap keeper can easily be moved on.
bench is horrible but as long as one of them plays each week I don't think I'll mind!

Take away Zaha's clean sheet points and extra points for goals last season and he managed 117 points in 2550 mins to Woods 103 in 1620 yet he's seeing a lot more love in RMTs on here.
