As more of the premium Fantasy Premier League assets return to their clubs following the World Cup, the debate over which of them to include has ramped up this week.

Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard have all been at the centre of discussions while Everton seem to be the team everybody is talking about.

Here’s the latest from our community this week.

Community Articles

WesMantooth went searching for value this week and did an in-depth comparison between points-per-million and value added per million.

Rossi3254 broke down the arguments for and against Harry Kane, while MathewNixon examined the potential impact of Marco Silva on Everton’s FPL assets.

The Hottest Topics

The old debate of form versus fixtures was the subject of much debate this week as Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) continues to perform well ahead of some difficult matches with West Ham in 2018/19. Original Pirate Material believes he can still score against the big teams.

With Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) returning to match action with Liverpool this week, naturally there were several conversations concerning the Egyptian. Sanchit put out a request for the pros and cons of owning Salah and whether there were any advantages to leaving him out.

Deulofale was keen to sample thoughts on which assets outside of Salah (and Alexis Sanchez) managers are consdering captaining in the first two Gameweeks.

Another big-name player to get the ‘yes or no’ treatment this week was Sergio Aguero (£11.0m). Mikeharbrw began the discussion on whether the Manchester City man is worth having this season. Final Fantasy XI asked the same question of Eden Hazard.

With Liverpool’s defence looking strong this year, Berbinho’s Forehead drew attention to the case for investing in goalkeeper Alisson Becker (£5.5m). On the other side of the river Mersey, plenty of Everton options have been catching our eye too.

Finally, we have already started to cast our minds a few weeks into the 2018/19 season as Geoff asked the community when they were planning on using their first Wildcard.

Members Tables

manchesterfordutd looked at a way of comparing midfielders for their ability to either score or assist in his latest table.

Meanwhile, choppers13 analysed the form of players from the second half of 2017/18 to see which of them can pick up where they left off next term.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

King or Tosun (already have Richarlison & Coleman from EVE)

Is King worth a punt with Bournemouth fixtures?

      I’d go with King.

I prefer him over Tosun anyway but triple Everton seems excessive, even with their good fixtures.

King is putting in a good pre season, either playing behind the striker or up front come season start. Good look at a point of difference. You still have Wood, Gray and Jimenez to fall back on, as well as a 7.0 forward upgrade if things go sour. Trust your gut!

Yeh last season I definitely started spending more in defence than before and doing the same this year. Defenders at 5.5-6 look better value than the attackers at the same price.

I know that in the past the player with the highest point total didn't repeat but Salah looked great the other night in 30 minutes of play.

Haha. Yeh he is actually in my team despite the name. Too scared to go without him especially at the start as he’s the best captaincy option. But if he doesn’t live up to his price early I’ll be selling.

Is there a worry Charlie Daniels won’t be starting? Steve cook the better pick at 4.5?

At this stage there's literally only four players I'm 100% set on having in my final team.

Salah, Robertson, Aguero, Cairney (value, probably slightly biased).

    1. Kambo
      • 9 Years

If you pull up Agueros season history for minutes he tends to play close to 2/3 of the season. 11.0 is a heavy price tag for those numbers. Short term for season start with those fixtures is hard to ignore, personally I’ll be doubling up on city midfielders to start the season.

The vast majority of that is down to Aguero's injury record

        8 years, 1 month ago

Yeh thanks. I did actually have Ed and Bailly initially and had Siggy instead of Richarlison. Do you think that’s better? I’m just kinda thinking Rich might do as well as Sig, but De Gea and Mendy gives me more in defence.

        1. Kambo
          • 9 Years

Might be worth keeping Richarlison at that price too since there are so many 6.5 options to change to if he doesn’t fire. That 1.0 could go a long way if you bank it for moves such as sane->De bruyne and wood to Arnaut if decisions come to that

ahaha the problem with taking salah first round is you dont get another pick till pick 20/21 and then strikers are long gone

          • 15 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

I tend to think that’s the problem with taking any mid first overall. There are just too many other options (Mahrez and Mkhi, for example) at mid to justify it. If you’re using captaincy, then I think it’s easier to justify, otherwise I think Kane is the no-brained #1, and you should probably take Aguero, Lukaku, and Aubameyang before Salah.

Last season i took Vardy and Firm as pick 8/9 and finished 3rd.

I ummed and ahh'd all week about who I'd take if I was first, I was on Kane up until the day before. The fact that even if Salah drops off a bit & still scores 20 goals, he will get an extra point per goal.

I also thought that 4-5-1 would be fine, as I've packed my midfield & have good defenders. So we will see how it goes, I tend to agree with your statement though, I'm just trying another tactic this time around. I also remain hopeful that I can nab a good striker at some point during the season and maybe trade for one as well.

              Seems fair enough to me.
And honestly, he’s probably the most exciting player in the game, as well as the one I’d least like to play against. Good luck with the striker situation, and here’s hoping Zaha stays put!

Hi guys. Could you rate my team and potential changes, please?

    Team:
    GK: Fabi/ Foster
    DEF: Bailly / Robertson / Coleman (W-B / Peltier)
MID: Martial / Salah / Sane / Richarlison / Stephens
    ATTK: Firmino / Kane (Kamara)

    Possible changes:

DEF: Alexander-Arnold or Gomez / Shaw / Danilo or Stones
MID: Eriksen / Mahrez / Salah / Richarlison / Stephens

    Hot Topic: No.10

So obvs we've had some great no. 10's over the years - George Best, Erik Cantona, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Christiano Ronaldo.

So our question is: who do you think should be pur next number 10? I think personally Lukaku because he's really good and he's really attacking.

I was saying Beckham had #10 in 96/97 because Cantona was still there, once he retired Beckham took the #7, as it's the most revered number at United since George Best's days.

With Laca potentially plating centrally, Its really tempting to use that 1.5m from Auba sale elsewhere.

    Thoughts on this lot?

    Foster
    Robertson-Shaw-Tomkins
    Salah-Eriksen-Ramsey-Jota-5.5mid
    Lacazette-Aguero

    Bench nothing worth showing.

Have a play with losing Aguero for Arnaut or another 7.0 forward and try bolster that midfield with some city and see what you think

Jose selling Martial to accommodate Willian will be such a classic JM move of preferring a 7/8 out of 10 steady performer over flair. Martial probably doesn't have the work ethic and grit to make him and United pay if they sell him to the Bundesliga or the Serie A, but sell him to Chelsea and Sarri could turn this guy into a beast. Could end up joining a list that includes KDB and Salah, the two best players of last year.

I don't really rate Martial. But getting Willian would be classic for the money being rumored would be classic Mourinho. Buying established quality players with a few seasons at most left in them that are on massive wages, then when he inevitably leaves in a year or two, his successor is left with an aging squad with wages so high there are few clubs willing to take them off his hands.

I only will play Coleman only because of 5.5m price tag in fantasy. In reality, I think Cedric have more chance to cs than Coleman tbh.

My team at the moment is:

      Ederson (Speroni)

      Bailly coleman robertson (wan-bissaka) (cedric)
      salah mahrez richarlison pedro (masuaku)
      aguero king zaha

Any changes to formation or transfers I should make?

Might sound crazy but was thinking of getting arny in for king and benching him gw1 as I'm gonna likely transfer king for him in gw2 anyway and than playing cedric to switch to a 442 formation..

Why are the odds slashed on Kane joining United ??
    Some real weird news

Odds are still a longish 4/1. They're slashed because a lot of money is being bet on Kane joining United, so the bookies have to limit their exposure.

Spurs played away to Newcastle on the opening day of last season... Bavies goal and cleanie... one of the few things that went right for me that week.

    To summarise: Bavies essential.
