Gameweek 1 of the 2022/23 Premier League season continues at Craven Cottage this Saturday lunchtime, where newly promoted Fulham take on Liverpool.

Kick-off in west London is at 12:30 BST.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) might not be the most-owned player in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but he is by some distance the most-captained of the opening weekend, with just short of 3.3 million Fantasy managers handing him the armband.

He’s the only player whose effective ownership (EO) exceeds 100% in Gameweek 1, meaning that even if you have him but haven’t captained him, you’ll be marginally worse off for every point he scores.

READ MORE: What is ‘effective ownership’ in FPL?

(via LiveFPL)

There are plenty of other well-owned players on show at the Cottage, with Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) in around 60% of squads and Luis Diaz (£8.0m) sitting in more than one in five of our sides.

All of these Fantasy assets start this afternoon but the 20%-owned Darwin Nunez (£9.0m) does not, with the Uruguayan forced to make do with bench duty once again as Roberto Firmino (£8.0m) leads the line.

(via LiveFPL)

Bar the recall for the fit-again Alisson (£5.5m), Liverpool are unchanged from the Community Shield last weekend.

As for Fulham, new signings Bernd Leno (£4.5m), Shane Duffy (£4.5m), Kevin Mbabu (£4.5m) and Manor Solomon are all among the substitutes.

Andreas Pereira (£4.5m) does start, however: he is, remarkably, FPL’s second most-owned midfielder, although he’ll be serving as bench fodder for over 90% of his owners this weekend.

GAMEWEEK 1 LINE-UPS

Fulham XI: Rodak, Tete, Adarabioyo, Ream, Robinson, Reed, Palhinha, Reid, Pereira, Kebano, Mitrovic.

Subs: Solomon, Leno, Duffy, Mbabu, Cairney, Muniz, Francois, Harris, Stansfield.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Firmino, Diaz.

Subs: Gomez, Milner, Adrian, Elliott, Nunez, Carvalho, van den Berg, Bajcetic, Chambers.

Can someone point me in the direction of an EO explainer? Even though they literally have explained in the second part of that sentence, I still have no idea what it means haha.

You captain someone, it's EO of 200%.

So Salah is captained by lots of people who are currently in the top 10K.

        Cheers. That makes sense.

Does EO have an impact, also, on non-owners? Like, a non-captaining owner is worse off than a captaining owner if Salah scores; but does a really high EO have much effect for a non-owner? Obvs apart from hoping the player blanks entirely.

It's the relative value of points against you.

Fpl Live breaks it down well with threats to your rank. And gains.

It's important but also boring. Don't transfer on EO. It's stifling.

      Go for expected points.

Thanks, that's really helpful context - especially re: transfer strategy.

I started playing FPL about a decade ago but drifted away from it for ages and only got back into it last year. So much had changed in that time haha not just the sheer volume of data, but all the different metrics and ways to cut it: EO and xG (Delta) etc. are things I just really haven't engaged with.

I'm still following the form and fixture approach haha.

    6. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years

It treats captains as double ownership. So if everyone owned Salah, and everyone captained, he'd have 200% EO.,

300% is the absolute max. That would mean every person in the game has triple captained. It will NEVER happen. Maybe.

It means that every time Salah scores a point, all the Salah Captainers get 2pts and overtake the guys just ahead of them who didn't so only get the 1pt

This is what I'm confused about. There are 10 other players and lots of permutations of player combos. I would have thought impact of EO is relative to the rest of your team and who else you might have captained?

        1. KAPTAIN KANE SERVES THE PAI…
          • 9 Years

Basically each player has an EO, most players will be virtually what their % selected by is.
Big hitters like Salah, Son, Haaland and Kane will be higher since they are frequently captained

If Leicester are meant to be in financial trouble, how come they are rejecting £70 million for Forfana? Surely that's a more than generous offer even if they didn't have money worries.

Their problem is their wage bill is over 100% of income, and the reason is a bloated squad on high salaries. They want to get rid of a load of non-essential players but no one wants them. The few essential ones like Fofana are in demand. If they can move on the unwanted ones, they can keep Fofana. They're still trying to reduce the wage bill in other ways; if no one leaves by TDD, I'd expect them to cave in over Fofana.

How can Leicester be in trouble?
They buy for peanuts & sell for gazillions, Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell, Kante etc etc.
They own the stadium & probably the best training ground facility in the uk.
The owner is a multi billionaire.

And what England should be doing. If you took the top 10 most creative / attacking English players, TAA, James and Chilwell would be in there (along with Foden, Grealish, Kane, Saka, Mount and Maddison). TAA and James would be in the Top 5. So why don't England unleash their creativity?

Pereira showing some ability. Great for 4.5m in FPL.

Fulham may just stay up this season. There is enough dross in the PL they can fight with this time round - Everton, Leeds, Southampton, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and potentially Wolves.

Southampton, are a JWP long-term injury away from relegation.

Their team is shocking. Take out JWP and they are relying on Championship players.

      Haven't Forest spent £100 million?

Sometimes sticking with a winning team works well.

Fulham criticised for only spending £33 million by BT Sports.

Forest would have probably spent that much if they'd have stayed in the Championship too

Fulham keeper wants to belt that ball as far away from himself as possible!
