Baldock is first choice at wing back, but will often come off early for Bogle, and during periods of congestion he'll share starts with him. I think he's a good choice for the start of the season up until the first wildcard.

Beckenbeyer and Bell are nailed on, but have little threat. Beyer will wonder forward in open play from CB, but it's not like he'll be in the box a lot.

Kaboure I don't know much about, but I believe he plays at RWB. Not sure on his competition though. Anyone have any info about him?

On Darwin at the moment. Wouldn't mind a 0-0 until half time and then he comes on to score.

It would be a major scare for me that he's omitted from the strong starting line up.

On the other hand, could we see Gakpo against stronger opposition where you need another player in the build up, and Nunez more direct against a team that sits deep?

      1. TheBiffas
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 8 months ago

Did you expect him to be nailed? There isn't a clear first choice front line. I thought that most people who were punting on the likes of Darwin were doing so knowing that he'll see plenty of minutes on the bench

Judging what we saw in preseason, I expected Darwin to start this game, and to be the first choice #9 as the season starts, but surely with high risk coming due Gakpo waiting. Now, I would definitely stay clear of Nunez, but it's just me.

The fact he’s not starting in this game should be enough to show he might not be the one

The fact that Liverpool has changed the entire 11 in the previous three games tells me it doesn't matter who starts, only who performs.

This, only Salah is nailed, the rest will rotate on form/fixtures, it's Salah or no-one and we know it!

Not true. We know they can all do damage from the bench. But the idea from some people that there would be a first choice XI was always delusional.

I'd normally agree but this is Liverpool's only preseason game against a top flight side. Every other side either was last season or will next season be in a second division, and of the players Liverpool have this looks like a first XI they'd play in the PL.

Anyone else tempted to swap Salah for Jota?

Jota will start the season as Liverpool's left winger, imo.

There's a lot of talk that Trent's new positions allows Salah to tuck in and be more inside right, closer to goal, but as long as Jota is on the pitch at the same time, I might say that Jota outscores Salah. Of course, you can't disregard the penalties, but Jota is better value still, imo.

On the other hand, Klopp said that Diaz looks sharp, so there's minutes uncertainty for sure.

I'm not really interested in what went in the past to be honest but I'll do what I can to try and get a better outcome for us.

I've got Sam as a key advocate for the websites progression so I'll continue to help push our agenda to her and she can then hopefully align the sprints for the dev teams.

Can I just say that I'm really against this "tagging" phenomenon in social media.

I would really like on-site notifications for replies to threads that you choose to follow (perhaps an option in your profile to turn on/off whether you automatically 'follow' threads you comment on or not).

But I would probably stop using the site if it started filling up with replies of just:

            @deulofail

            @FPL Brains

            @SAM FPLFAMILY

Adding humungously to the noise. In general, the site should be designed for its users without taking inspiration from twitter and the like that are designed to maximise your notifications and addiction. Just build what we need for QUALITY football discussion.

E.g. if you need to send something to another user, add the ability to send things to...send things with another user. That may or may not include a system to connect people like friends or follows, and may include blocking... but whatever is needed should be built, not copied wholesale from social media.

Many people here don't use and don't want to participate in a twittershere. However, they would benefit from specific things, chosen and implemented carefully to increase quality of football chat and not quantity of posts, whichis is the conflict of interest that you should be fighting instead of encouraging.

That was a bit rambly sorry, but I hope you understand my point and concern

The General has found a cool hat in the FFS drama cupboard but, unlike any discerning military tyrant, has opted for a Puma trackie top. Bold.
Munday was unable to find any cool headgear, so is relegated to wearing his FFS branded leprachaun top, a potent reminder that FFS owns him. He is but chattel.
I do appreciate the emotional range of David in this one though, like he is complicit to a heinous crime and will be on the dock in The Hague in several years. The image is a timely reminder of the perils of submitting to totalitarian figures, whether they are wearing jogging gear or not.

Tempted to gamble & book a transfer from GW2 & 3, from Gakpo to Darwin to Nkunku:

    GW1: Gakpo (vs CHE)
    GW2: Darwin (vs BOU)
    GW3 Nkunku (vs LUT)

    Thoughts?

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I was thinking on similar lines (albeit without changing Pool fwd between 1-2). Plausible that Darwin starts only BOU but I'm not so sure that I'd necessarily spend an extra transfer on it. Also for me this kind of strategy is concomitant with an early WC but I do like the idea of going aggressive with initial FTs & ignoring long-term squad structure til WC5

        Yeah, it's a tough call.
I think I might actually consider sticking with Gakpo.
It's just deciding who would score more points: Darwin off the bench vs CHE & start vs BOU, or Gakpo vs CHE & off the bench vs BOU

Jota with a cute pass and Gakpo scores a well taken goal.

      Dodgy keeper tho!

Gakpo much better player than Nunez IMO offers so much more. Surely Gakpo starts more than Nunez?

You'd think Gakpo is more likely as he's versatile too.

First time playing in a good few years, any help, tips or advice is much appreciated. I obviously plan to play about if KDB is not fit.

    Onana
    Gabriel Pinnock Estupinan
    Salah KDB Enciso Bowen Saka
    Haalnd Wissa

Nothing in the bank and reasonable enough subs.

Yep, now they'll have to use one of their unlimited transfers to take him out!!

The Liverpool attacking options are going to be a selection minefield at the start of the season.

Anyone watched any of the Womens World Cup? Just flicked Brazil v Jamaica on whilst having my lunch. The quality is seriously low.

It should get much better in the latter stages, but agree the tourney has been a bit rubbish so far.

Maybe in the Semis / Final. Until then it's pretty much unwatchable

Australia v France is a potentially interesting quarter final, but yes it looks like the best sides are going to avoid each other until the semis.

The Chinese keeper against England yesterday was the worst performance from a GK I've ever seen. You only need a few amateurs on the pitch to make the whole match look amateurish. As Eugene says, quality should improve in the latter stages.

Am I right in thinking Jota has started in all but one of Liverpool's pre season friendlies?

I was working on the assumption that I start a 3-5-2 team this season, but some of the forwards look to be really good value.

How does this 3-4-3 draft look?

    Onana
    Gabriel | Chilwell | Estupinan
    Saka | Rashford | Maddison | Foden
    Haaland | Watkins | Jesus
    -----------------------------------------------
    Areola | Henry | Baldock | Sarr

Probably most beautiful draft I've seen so far!

All this talk about Darwin and Gakpo but if I was going to punt on a Liverpool minutes risk (I'm not going to but if) it would be Jota. That guy is a fantasy beast when he plays.

Been decent in pre season, not seeing him in drafts, Nunez Gakpo seen in a couple
They will all get minutes, hopefully you get the one who starts more, gets the most minutes

That little bit too expensive for a player not nailed. If you're good for that, Foden is cheaper.

Do you think this is balanced?

    Areola
    Kabore Baldock Trusty
    Salah Rashford Saka Fernandes
    Haaland Darwin Nkunku

    4.0 Bell Beyer 4.5

Not really. You will probably need to spend a bit more in defence

7x 4.0 at the back? I think you know its not balanced

Not balanced at all, and with that lightweight a defence, you'd hope for more security up top as well (which it doesn't look like you have).

For people trying to keep up, we've had a VVD goal, nutted in from a corner, and a Bayern reply. 2-1 as it stands

Final 4 positions which is better?

How he looks in pre season?

He's only had about 45 mins in pre-season so far and looked really poor during that run-out.

Wait and see how he starts the season, going for him from GW1 seems an unnecessary risk
