Kane just came off the back of a 36 goal campaign and is only 30. He is still one of England's best players and one of the best in the world. He wasn't at his best this tournament as he was clearly struggling for fitness, as a result of this I would like to see his minutes managed more, but to say he should retire is lunacy your either very young or very very stupid.

Price was okayish when you could get stats that weren't easily available elsewhere. Some articles used be very precise / had a lotvof depth on which teams conceded chances from which side etc. Season or two ago I had issues renewing my membership and Geoff promised it in old price, but I got extra time instead and was asked much higher price when that had expired. 40£ is simply too much for me for this service, I barely use membership area. But let us see...

Southgates greatest contribution to football was being part of the 2011 team that revulsionised English football.

This new FA coaching system in 2011 focused on technical development.

Phil Foden and Saka are poster boys for the new FA youth development system.
Small players who may never have made it under the previous system that promoted big physical boys through the youth system and into professional clubs.

The mainstream media has massively failed in recognising this pivotal change in English football that has produced the best technical squad in English history.

Southgate was the first England manager to benefit from this new group of technical players.

Say, hypothetically, you had one striker renowned for his energy, constant movement and stretching of defensive lines, and another limited in movement but famed for his clinical finishing. Which one would you start, and which one would you bring on after 60-70 mins?

(Assuming of course that you aren't bestest bumchums with the one that can't run)

        1. InsertPunHere
          • 4 Years
          2 years, 6 days ago

Isn’t the conventional wisdom that it’s a good idea to bring on defence-stretching players later on when the defenders are tired? Otherwise the defenders would be running around a lot at the start, and then just when they started feeling it a bit would be able to take a breather because they’re now up against someone just as slow as they are.

            • 3 Years

Another way of seeing it I guess!
I would counter that "marking" Kane (or another immobile striker) for 70 mins would not tire out an elite centre half pairing, and that trying to keep up with Watkins (or another striker with the legs and lungs of a racehorse) for that long would have them out on their feet.
Different ways of seeing it. I'd go with wear them down then punch them out.

Exactly. When people say how well Southgate did as manager, they're usually not aware of the change in how academies developed young players. Southgate benefited from this, but his tactical limitations held the team back

A journalist visited the FA youth development program a few years back and took a picture of one of the players, it was Phil Foden.

Wow, that's why he insist to play Foden and reluctant to sub off him, the one without single goal contribution in 7 consecutive matches. Crazy.

Yes I think they have over done it. A bit boring now , into the 6th day of it. Fine line between building anticipation and just prolonging it. There really is only a select amount of players we are interested in due to the scoring nature of the game, releasing player's prices' who will have approx 1% ownership is a bore and doesn't build too much excitement.

Not a similar level of threat+cleansheet potential from the 4.5s as compared to Munoz though. I'd wanna have him and only rotate him against the top 7-8 probably.
