Bench order guide

The order of your bench is something to keep in mind when selecting your team each Gameweek.

Essentially, the order in which you place players on your bench is the order in which they will come off your bench, if one of your starting 11 doesn’t feature. For this reason, it is a good idea to position players you think could score well, at the front of your bench, and those that you are less confident in, at the back.

There are certain exceptions to this rule, however.

For example, if you have fielded three defenders in your starting lineup and one of them does not play, then he will be replaced by a substitute from your bench.

If however, your first substitute is not a defender (as shown above), then that player cannot be substituted in, as playing with two defenders is not a viable formation.

Any formation must include at least three defenders, so in this instance your first defender will come into play as opposed to simply the first player on your bench.
