Despite their defeat against Swansea, interest in Arsenal’s key players has picked up considerably this week as the Gunners, as well as Sunderland, prepare for double Gameweek 37. Our community writers and posters were full of good advice on the best players to draft, while our hot topics also take a look back at the season’s best, cheapest and most unlikely stars. We also catch up on the latest scraps for mini-league glory in our community tournaments as well as showcase the week’s best latest statistics in our Members area.

The Community Articles

Our resident Arsenal expert Jaffalicious has returned with a timely update on the best attacking assets from among the Gunners ranks. This has already proved essential reading for those wondering which players to bring in ahead of their double fixtures in Gameweek 37. AZ has also been helping out those looking for Arsenal’s assets with this close look at three of their midfielders.

However, early investment in Arsenal players in Gameweek 36 proved disastrous for many, according to our latest Rough with the Smooth round up of your week’s best and worst transfers, captaincy decisions and team selections.

The Puntmaster is among those to be cautious about Arsenal’s differential targets and has instead focused on a Sunderland midfielder and two single Gameweek players in his latest look at the week’s best punts.

Congratulations to Gussy whose guide to Fantasy Football success without ever watching a match proved to be the most popular community article of April. He earns a £20 Amazon voucher for his efforts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Although Arsenal players will be the main attraction during Gameweek 37, the community is clearly keen on taking some punts on Sunderland players ahead of their double fixtures. In our discussion on the best Black Cat options Brian Utd – Why Always We favours Jordi Gomez (prior to his injury), while HVT has his eye on Jermaine Defoe.

For those considering even more daring punts Jose Mourinho has indicated that some of his fringe players such as Izzy Brown and Nathan Ake are set to start against West Brom this weekend. Patch was keen to know more about these young stars and the community was only too happy to help out.

While price used to be a good indicator of a player’s points potential, Punty believes that this season has ended the notion that a budget price tag indicates less chance of racking up a good score. He wonders whether the large array of quality budget options this season, including Harry Kane and Leicester’s defenders, has made transfer value largely irrelevant this season.

The Puntmaster took a break from offering up the week’s best differential picks to ask which players have proved to be the most disappointing this season. With Manchester United and Liverpool’s ranks beset with injury and poor form for large parts of the season, it was no surprise to see their players amongst those mentioned.

In contrast, Kricky is for Kinear asked the community to name their surprise stars of the season as he compiles a 2014/15 Bargain Basement Cult Differentials XI. To start things off he asked the community to name their favourite budget friendly cult hero goalkeepers of the year and defenders.

Delaying transfers for this season’s unlikely budget stars has cost many dearly this season. Just a Hat’s discussion looked back at this season to see what other key lessons the community has learned.

Cutting down on points hits has been among lessons learned by many this year. But as Goodfella’s discussion on the links between hits and rank found, even the highest placed managers are keen on the odd points deduction.

The Members Tables

To give some further insight into the best double Gameweek players to consider I’ve constructed this table looking at Arsenal’s assets, as well as this look at Sunderland’s most attacking players. Both are sorted by shots in the box, one of the best indicators of goal scoring potential.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In the Official Deadzone League mateen .a. bakar has a strong lead of two points going into the final two Gameweeks. Ralph Noodles is leading the chasing pack in second place.

Greenwindmill, who sits in 27th overall, has consolidated a commanding lead at the summit of The Long and Winding Road main league and The FFScout Moderators & Contributors league. However, he dropped to third in the Top 1000 Any Season league in Gameweek 36, with Stuart Shingler’s impressive tally of 107 propelling him into first.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, Mark K., Winter_is_coming, HuttonDressedasLahm, ManTree(v2!) or just JAY! and Arfield Boyd have made the DGW37 final.

So i've been reading through a few comments/discussions regarding take points hits throughout the season. The general consensus seems to be that you need to take as little hits as possible with proof that a lot of the top players in FPL haven't taken many.

But surely we're looking at this the wrong way... You take points hits when there are issues with your team, not taking those hits just means you carry on with those issues for longer and that especially hurts at the beginning of the season with the price rises/drops. It just happens to be that the players at the top of the FPL standings happen to be the ones that did not make mistakes, and thats why they don't need the hits. Any thoughts?

This is exactly it. The ones at the top have had good planning, a lot of patience and a bit of luck. Means they've been able to avoid hits.

Mmmm...If you see a player you fancy watching at the weekend and he's playing well/has a good fixture then take the hit...I may get Gerrard in the morning for no other reason than I wanna have him in my team for his last game at Anfield. I don't really care about the (-4)

You have to weigh up the odds. Sometimes its worth it, sometimes it isn't. I think it depends on the individual circumstance.

Oh i took a bunch of hits this season, i don't believe that not taking hits is the way to go. I really believe that sitting on an issue on your team just so you don't take hits will bite you in the long-run.

I was just saying that the people at the top happen to be there because they haven't made mistakes and hence no/low number of hits

one year the overall winner of FPL was a man of steel and took no points hits at all...the runner up got the same score and lost on tie-break...he took 33 4-point hits

so just do what you think best is my advice

Honestly, when they introduced the two free transfers, it really added to the benefit of not taking hits. I've taken a lot less hits this season and it's suited me well. I'm not challenging for any overall honours, but I'm winning all my leagues. It's all about planning and sticking to the plan. Just because a player doesn't do well one week, doesn't mean he won't do well the following week.

i have a system...first i look for my worst player and hit the down arrow...then i start thinking about who to buy...i do this every week and think of it as my plan A...sometimes I end up doing something else but I always know that Plan A will be used most weeks

      Taking hits is more fun.

The other thing is that if you take a hit to get a player who scores, say, fifty points over next five games then that's clearly a good move.

"Taking hits is more fun"...this is certainly true...you get more "gambling kick" that way...it takes patience and determination to avoid hits and still do well...you're constantly looking at other people's teams and thinking that they're better than yours...but the hitters suffer when scores are low

and I get my kick by looking at my overall score

What seems to have worked well for me early in the season - was to roll over my free transfers and then take a hit giving me 3 transfers. This gave some great flexibility to reshape my team to follow form and fixtures.

After being 62 points behind about 4 weeks ago very comfortable-I normally win or come 2nd in my ML so well set. Messed up last two seasons as I ended up with Mata and benched him for last game over previous two seasons and if I had played him I'd have won.

Baines to Kolarov if you're feeling punty, but not sure MC will get any more clean sheets. What about Cambiasso to Larson? Unless you're planning on playing Cambi vs QPR in GW38. If so, then do Hendo -> Larsson. I'd say no reason to save a FT for GW38, unless you need it for a critical ML matchup that week.

Just logged into FPL to see the news about Gomez, pretty gutted that I went for him yesterday, I rarely due transfers before the Friday because of the risk of this sort of thing, sacrificing millions in TV as a result, so it's a kick in the teeth that I got stung by it this GW.

Start Fellaini, Toby or Vlaar in his place?

Good job you didn't come on earlier-people lolling at those who went early.

I nearly did last night due to potential price rise but resisted...

There will always be idiots who do that. The popularity of lol@ on here has been the worst part of this FPL season, it's just pointless.

And yes someone's going to lol@ this.

Vlaar, I guess. But this is tough one. Maybe a hit to get some decent punt in his place?

What position will Gerrard play tomorrow...Will it be his usual deep role of the last couple of years, or will he be pushed further up if the situation allows ?

I could only afford that if I sell Hazard. Is that really a better option?

    Evenin chaps, my team

    Kasper
    Terry. Moreno. PVA
    Sanchez. Ramsey. Hazard. Henderson
    Kun. Giroud. Vardy

    Krul. Grealish. Duff. Schlup

    1FT & 0.1 itb

Couple of concerns over game time with Haz,Moreno and Ramsey also considering starting Grealish instead of Hendo.
Tempted to take a hit for Haz + Moreno »»» Silva + Kolarov.
Any other glaring errors or inspiring suggestions ??
