2017/18 was a season of mixed fortunes for Fantasy owners of Tottenham Hotspur players.

Harry Kane matched his best-ever single-season haul for league goals (technically beating it after the Premier League goals accreditation panel retrospectively awarded him Christian Eriksen’s strike in the 2-1 win over Stoke City), but will also be remembered for frustrating blanks in home matches against Swansea City, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United and Huddersfield Town. A fair share of Fantasy Premier League managers will, meanwhile, still be ruing their “Kanexit” strategy in December when the England striker punished his deserting owners with back-to-back hat-tricks.

Christian Eriksen‘s total of 11 strikes (one subsequently scratched) was his best goal haul in a Premier League season, but the Danish international recorded only half of the assists (ten) he had managed in 2016/17.

Dele Alli scored 50 fewer FPL points in 2017/18 than he had managed the previous campaign, with his goal tally (nine) exactly halved. Even Son Heung-min‘s goal (12) and assist (eight) returns, as impressive as they were, were down on 2016/17.

Spurs’ wing-backs, most notably Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier, coupled their clean sheet prospects with regular attacking returns but were at the mercy of Mauricio Pochettino’s irksome rotation policy on the flanks; not one of the Lilywhites’ four full-backs started more than 26 league matches in 2017/18.

The north London club are, at least, a comfortingly unchanging presence amid this summer of big-money moves and new manager recruitment. At the time of writing, Spurs were one of only two Premier League clubs – the other being Burnley – who have yet to sign a player during the current transfer window.

Pochettino will be taking charge of Spurs for the fifth successive season, meanwhile, and we can expect the same brand of quick-pressing, attacking football he has cultivated in his four years at White Hart Lane. Although Pochettino occasionally rolled out a three-man backline in 2017/18, we will inevitably see more of the Argentinean coach’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system again this season.

In-depth data on Spurs’ season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

Reposting this Salah-less team that I hink looks preeeetty slick once the big world cup boys are back in action. It requires Hazard to stay though.

    4.5/4.0
    Mendy - Bailly - Robbo - Davies - TAA
    Hazard - KDB - Mahrez - Pogba - 5.0
    Auba - 5.0 - 4.5

...good luck finding two forwards at that price who'll even get a look in 😐

You're effectively benchless as well as Salah-less

Sorloth seems decent at 5.0, 4.5 seems unlikely for a striker though. So there will be 2 ok bench players with the 5.0 mid as well. If you want a sturdier bench its pretty easy by going Arnie instead of Pogba and having two 5.0 mids

Hazard may be a beast under Sarri if he stays, but surely he won't start the season after making it as far as England in the World Cup?

This team would have to involve a plan to use 2 transfers after gw2 to get in KDB and Hazard, not a GW1 team.

Any thoughts on Robbo vs VVD for this season? The stats seem to have favoured Robbo as goal threat.

Robbo will lose games to Moreno as he did last year. He’ll probably pick up similar points to VVD in the games he plays, but VVD the better long term option. VVD is going to score 5 goals this year minimum.

He’s well overdue, Liverpool target him at every corner & I think it’s just a matter of time before he gets a few goals. I think he even has one of those legendary games in him where he scores 2 & keeps a cleansheet.... hopefully!

I’d be interested if anyone had the stats on liverpool’s Starting left back when both were fit - i’d Warrant a guess it’s not that far off 50/50 between them

            Surely not

It's not like Spurs where you can argue each fullback is roughly as good as the other guy

There's clearly a yawning chasm in quality between Robertson and Moreno...Robertson is firmly #1 on that side

TAA and Clyne on the other side is far closer and reflected in the 5m price...they probably will 50/50 rotate

I remember monitoring their left back a lot last year, I had Moreno as he was a bargain at 4.5 & he got a lot of starts then got injured & let Robertson into the team. Maybe Robertson was injured while Moreno was starting but I don’t think so... I agree when I saw Robertson play he always did look a better all round player than Moreno but Klopp seemed to like starting Moreno a lot.

As I say I’d love to see the stats on when they were both available just to see am I imagining things!

No chance of him playing 50/50 games.

If Liverpool want to win the league they need their best LB playing.

Moreno is rubbish, Robertson is not.....

Just done my first draft. Can already see plenty of problem areas myself but interested to hear what others think.

    Fabianski - Patricio
    Douglas - Cedric - Daniels - TAA - Wan-Bissaka
    Jota - Mahrez - Mkhi - Salah - Richarlison
    Aguero - Firmino - Sorloth

How worried should I be about playing time for Douglas, Daniels, TAA and Sorloth?

I think getting Arnie is a good move. Zaha exists to keep Mili tee’d up with FK’s & Pens, so just get Mili & PVA & no need for Zaha

Mili doesn't seem like value anymore at the same price as Richarlison, Pedro etc.

He comfortably outscored both Richarlison & Pedro last season, and that was after Palace lost their first 5 games. Since Hodgson came in he has been an FPL beast for 6.5m.

The reason he gets so many penalties & DFK’s is down to palace’s tactics & the sheer amount of fouls Zaha draws. That’s going to increase if anything this year.

He’ll likely be 7.5 or even 8.0 after another 10 goal season from midfield.

          1. Blanka
            • 11 Years
            7 years, 4 months ago

            Wasn't he 5m last year?

He only outscored Zaha by 8 points, and played more minutes.

Wpuld be shocked if he outscored Zaha again.

Just think at 5m he was a bargain, but 6.5m, you do have other options.

Really, would you want a midfielder who plays in an attacking front three for a big club, or a defensive midfielder for a team potentially fighting to stay up?

Yep he has been priced very fairly this year, 6.5 for a mid who hit almost 150 points is great value. Another big factor in his favour. If he were 7.5 or 8.0 I’d have to think twice after only one 10 goal season, but at 6.5 he’s very low risk, and there are many other unproven/risky 6.5 picks who you can swap him to if he doesn’t perform

(Just posted this somewhere random by mistake):
Already swapped Tosun out (for Arnautovic) when I decided to bring Siggy in.
Had Richarlison while down as Watford. Feel like I shouldn't have 2 Everton until we see how they perform (maybe not even then!)
People think 2 Everton too much?Thinking of keeping Siggy and swapping Richarlison (for Jota).

    1. A.T
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

Think of it this way. Siggy won’t score less points just because you also have Richarlison. Neither will he score more just because you do. In other words you are talking about coverage and coverage doesn’t exist for midfielders and forwards.

      1. Nuka Girl
        • 9 Years

Not so much coverage as a team not scoring enough. Think I'd want a team to be potentially scoring 3 or more goals before having 2 players.
        That's my (false?) logic

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years

If you dont think the team will score many goals you shouldnt have any player from there unless hes the main man/talisman/whatever you want to call it in my opinion. I think Siggy fits that bill the best at Everton.

            • 9 Years

True. That's why I would wait and see. If Everton have a goal-fest every game then I would consider a second.
For GW1 I think I would only consider doubling mid/fwds for Liverpool and Man City.

No you are right. You are not trying to cover anything there. I’m not sure why I said that. It is a question of how many goals the team is capable of scoring. 3 a game seems to only come from City and Liverpool potentially. One would expect A Silva team to be offensive but I have doubts how long that will take to come into effect. After a season with Alladyce they will be very much a team in transition.

Kind of the reason why I don’t want him. He got 29 goals last year for a measly 215 points. I want 260 minimum from a 12.5 & I just can’t see Kane scoring 39 goals in a season (he probably will now lol)

Na he needs to do more than 215 points... I think his first full champions league season takes a toll on his premier league performances too & that’s repeating itself this year, after a long World Cup summer, I just see him being a bit jaded & possibly picking up more injuries. I’ll take my chances with Salah perma captain.

Kane in GW’s 2, 8 & 15 are the only ones I’d be behind the sofa for this side of Christmas, and Salah has Palace away, City home, Burnley away those weeks so has a chance of scoring in all of those.

Yes I’ve noticed lots of teams on here without them. I’m quite surprised as I thought it would be the opposite. I suppose it will change once an idea of the team evolves. I like the look of Pedro and Fabregas too if he is relieved of defensive duties and players higher up the pitch.

Part of the plobrem is that we don’t know who to get. I’d love any one of Pedro, Fab, RLC, Giroud, Morata to nail down a slot & id definitely get them. Haz also.

      Too much uncertainty though.

Will Azpi get his 6 assists to match last year’s scores? Not so sure... he might return more like a good 6.0 this year

How's she looking just now? 0.5 ITB

    Ederson Stekelenburg
    Robertson Bailly Mee Tomkins Peltier
    Salah Mahrez Silva Sigurdsson Ward
    Auba Zaha Quaner

    - Relucant to do Sigurdsson to Richarl before anyone says that. May consider if Sig plays too deep, etc.
    - Silva will likely become Ramsey after the MCI HUD match in GW2
    - If Kane starts exploding ( 😆 ) may have to WC to get him in for Zaha, or will wait til Auba fixtures turn

        I'm paying 13.0m for RWer.

The attacking moves all seem to end with Aubameyang though. They build on the right through Mkhytaryan, before crossing/switching play to the left. Auba spends a lot of time in the box once the ball is in the final third.

Firmino doesn't join the squad til next week. Sturridge been playing well by all accounts and praised by klopp.

You won’t get much better for 8.0m, totally nailed & many ways to score.

I’m stunned at how underplayed last season was for him on here... 6 goals, and 13 assists from central midfield in 27 games

Those are numbers in anyone’s book. He managed it despite missing 10 games with serious hamstring injury. And also a stupid sending off & a few YC’s that he can easily clean up this year.

I think he’s an FPL beast in waiting, think we’ve been given a gift that he’s 8.0 & will probably be a 9.0 or 9.5 next year

It’s the Mourinho factor unfortunately. But I think if Pogba stays, he’ll be a definite FPL,option as long as he’s on the pitch, he just has far too much quality for teams to handle, he must be genuinely terrifying to play against

    3. Brosstan
      • 11 Years

If Pogba comes back with normal black hair and no dumb haircut he will be straight in my team. But he will probably be dabbing into the stadium with his head shaved and dyed to resemble the World Cup trophy.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 15 Years

He did all that shite last year though & still posted the numbers... I think you just have to put up with the nonsense, give him a few games & watch the goals & assists & baps & clean sheets come rolling in & just hope he doesn’t get himself sent off

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

That nonsense is an indicator of him acting exactly the way Mourinho hates though, which means more chance of him being told to sit back and more chance of him being subbed off or benched.

          1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
            • 15 Years

Yeah, it’s a bit of a game of chicken with Mourinho & Pogba tomsee who blinks first. The players have so much more power these days now though, but Mourinho still has that disciplinarian approach & has to be the biggest ego in the dressing room.

If he were a better man manager he’d be doing the arm around the shoulder approach with both Pogba & Martial & he’d be a lot closer than 19 points off Man City.
