Best West Ham players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

West Ham United’s line-up for their trip to Anfield in Gameweek 1 will have a very different look to the side that sleepwalked to a 13th-place finish in 2017/18.

Summer signings Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m), Issa Diop (£4.5m), Fabian Balbuena (£4.5m), Ryan Fredericks (£5.0m), Jack Wilshere (£5.0m), Andriy Yarmolenko (£7.0m) and Felipe Anderson (£7.0m) all have realistic chances of starting against Liverpool a week on Sunday, while new manager Manuel Pellegrini has ditched the three-man backline favoured by predecessor David Moyes in favour of an attacking 4-3-3.

West Ham were a team of contradictions last season; no side conceded more league goals than the Hammers, but only the clubs finishing in the top seven kept more clean sheets.

Similarly, while their total of 48 goals scored was the eighth-best in the division, their underlying attacking statistics were mostly unremarkable – more of which we will discuss later in this article.

A grim-looking opening run of fixtures in which the Hammers play five of the “big six” in the first nine Gameweeks will likely deter too much Fantasy investment in Pellegrini’s side, but in Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) the east London club have a player bang in form and in high demand among Fantasy Premier League managers.

In-depth data on West Ham’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the feature below.

I like this latest but what do you think?

    Ederson
    Robertson, Bailly, Tomkins
    Salah, Silva, Mane, Jota
    Aguero, Arnautovic, Austin

    Subs: Skel, Cairney, Suttner, WB

Looks very good, but Austin to Wood/King needed. Is it DSilva? Suttner to Bennett/Peltier?

    Pick A or B

    A. Mane + Tomkins
    B. 6.5-7.5 mid(Pedro/Mkhi/Ramsey/Jota) + Davies

In A need to play Tomkins probably every week (bech; AWB and Peltier).

    Thanks.

Clyne will most definitive play a vital part this season, so TAA as much as he has great attacking potential, is a rotation risk. Lovren is atm a more secure option, albeit not from the get go, as he will be late for the first gw. B, if someone more nailed 5m defender.

Posted this on the previous page as a reply, but I feel like this needs more exposure.

Quaner's FPL prospects from a Huddersfield fan:

It was never the plan to have him as a starter last year but with Kachunga injured and Ince heavily underperforming, Quaner played a lot of games and even managed to find 4 assists. His crosses from the back line were not bad actually. That being said, with the addition of Sobhi and Diakhaby, and Kachunga back in the team, there is no place for Quaner. He is next to Malone and Hefele the third player not invited to the training camp in Vienna and should be on his way out. So to the 7 pct of participants with Quaner in your squad. Don’t.

Is it time to find a new 4.5 striker who may get minutes?

nah, they´ve got some players in that supposedly leaves Kamara further back in the pecking order. But playing 4.5m strikers are a rarity anyway and if going 3-5-2 with decent back up defenders it could be viable to go in that direction, perhaps

Good info, cheers! Kamara might not get many mins also. Much better having 4.0-4.5 defender or 4.5 mid on your bench. Partially for this reason Im gonna start with King in a front three.

Who will play further up the field - kante or jorginho?
this Jorginho dude is quality - for 5.0 he is certain to get over 100 points no?

      Kante will play further forward.

Jorginho is the metronome at the base of the midfield.

    3. bench boost for every gamew…
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

if he plays 60min in 38 games that´s 76 points-) adding 1 pointers for cs, but seriously speaking, that 5m midfielder bracket has several candidates who will perform at various times in the season, so to me this will be a question wether you play it safe and dull with Jorginho, who might get you the odd assist or a goal, or the tactic to hunt those inform players that inevitable pops up during the season. Set and forget Jorginho or spending transfers chasing the inform players seems to be the conundrum, difficult to say before the season. If Chelsea performs well, you could also be in danger of using a valuable spot.

He is extremely good, but not necessary good for FPL points, but who knows?

Thoughts on this? A few punts but not too many:

    Pickford/4.0
Vvd, mee, cedric, wan b, Tomkins
    Salah, Alli, mane, richarlison, Gunnar
    Kun, arnie, Wood

I don't think I'd want Pickford between the sticks week in, week out and not real keen on Alli but apart from that looks solid. Defense is a bit week but I think your attackers make up for it.

3 right backs (Kiko, January and Navarro) and 3 left backs (Holebas, Zeegelaar and Masina) on Watfords books. Hard to nail down the starters atm.

    3. bench boost for every gamew…

Holebas got competition from Masina, whom i think will start the season at left back. A player that fights for a place in the italian national team, tipped by some to be quite a signing actually. Kiko seems more safe, but injury prone and got some rivals for his spot as well. Kabasele might be the safest pick imo, albeit dull one.

Choosing last players to the team is becoming like a coin toss. Now wondering whether to have A or B? Mahrez is likely injury risk, but better 2nd fixture. Auba would be ready in the team, but I do have also Agüero already as place holder for him.

Back 3 all at risk of not playing at some point in the opening fixtures, so be careful. Willian a risk too. Shouldn't be benching tarkowski, need someone cheaper and reinvest cash in defence

Is Jota worth a 1.5mil over Costa or Neves?

Probably not. He'll bag 10 or so goals I expect though, so a good pick

Costa could be a season bargain and with those fixtures i wouldn't want a 6.5 promoted mid.

Hard to say. Neves is card magnet and perhaps most certain player to get red also. I rather have Costa to start with and not risk that 1.5 million, which certainly gives better defence.

Neves will probably be on every set piece, but Jota is a lot more lethal imo

Depends where Jota gets played, could line up wide or in the middle, if he plays middle expect him to be involved heavily with anything wolves do.

        I think hes worth it

How does this look so far?

      Ederson / Hamer
      Bailly / Robertson / van Aanholt / Peltier / Wan-Bissaka
      Eriksen / Mané / Pedro / Jota / Cairney
      Agüero / Firmino / Zaha

Solid, albeit template, team. Big issue that people will see is no Salah, and the rest of the team doesn't look that good despite the increase in funds. Reinvest that 1 mil, preferably to get Salah 😉 But that's just me!

With 9.0m best defenders to sign from West Ham and Watford? I was thinking kabasele and balendeua myself

Alright lads, tell me what's wrong in this team 🙂

      Ederson - 4.0
      Robertson - Bailly(?) - Cedric - Ward - AWB
      Salah - Mane - Pedro - Richarlison - Cairney
      Kun - Arnie - Zaha

Not sure about double Liverpool attack but could work though..

First of all, it's in the wrong article 😉

Cedric is late to preseason thanks to the WC, so watch him, and Pedro in the CS. Otherwise looks decent

Haven't seen a lot of Goalkeeper rotations going around lately, but I'm currently set on Foster / Ryan as the fixture rotation for Watford & Brighton is incredible for a long, long time. In fact, if you want to keep your Wildcard until Christmas, you can go GW1 - GW18 only having your GK face 1 top 6 team (Arsenal away in GW7).

Not only do you avoid the top 6, you also have countless fixtures against the teams right down in the bottom scrapheap of the league. Just look at these delightful match-ups for CS potential...

BRIGHTON, Burnley, PALACE, FULHAM, Southampton, Fulham, Arsenal, BOURNEMOUTH, Newcastle, HUDDERSFIELD, Newcastle, Cardiff, LEICESTER, Huddersfield, PALACE, Burnley, CARDIFF, Bournemouth.

No worries. I personally think it's so much more fun (and potentially valuable) to try a rotation like this than go for Ederson. Ederson is not getting you save points or bonus points, so even when City when 6-1 you're getting your 2 points. He'll be reliable, but it's high a price to pay for something so dull for me.

Anyway, Watford and Brighton are both relatively sound defensively, at least we know what these teams and keepers are like in the PL already. Of course there's the horrible feeling of benching more points, but I'm willing to roll the dice.

I’m going for the Foster/Ryan combination too. I was on Ederson/4.0 but I’m favouring the rotation. The 0.5mill saving comes in handy too.

Nice one. Good luck to you (and me!). The 0.5 saving tips it over the edge for me, and I actually like having to make decisions. 'Set and forget' keeper is a bit overrated imo, but everyone wants to play differently.

A few essential questions in my opinion....

Why the love for Aguero? Everybody forgot the rotationrisk?

Will Firmino start in GW 1? Is Morata replacement for short term?

What are the rumours about a transfer for Daniels?

      Auba or Laca?

      Cheers fellas!!
