Reguilón benched as Gameweek 6 continues to hurt FPL managers

The latest unfortunate turn of events in Gameweek 6 of Fantasy Premier League is a Monday-night benching for Sergio Reguilón (£5.6m).

Over 120,000 Fantasy managers picked up Spurs’ left-back for Gameweek 6, inspired by his role in the 6-1 win at Old Trafford and the 3-3- draw with West Ham.

However, Jose Mourinho had other plans, selecting Ben Davies (£4.8m) on the left-hand side of his back-four at Burnley.

Serge Aurier (£5.2m) has suffered the same treatment, replaced at right-back by Matt Doherty (£5.8m).

Thankfully, the rest of the Spurs team lines up mostly as we expected with the heavily backed pairing of Harry Kane (£10.9m) and Son Heung-min (£9.5m) selected at centre-forward and left-wing respectively.

All eyes will be on the right-hand side of Burnley’s defence tonight as Matt Lowton (£4.4m) comes in for his first start of the season.

His preparation for this match has not been ideal as he only recently returned to training from a knee injury, forced into action against Spurs with Phil Bardsley (£4.5m) and Gameweek 5 stand-in Erik Pieters (£4.4m) missing out.

Ben Mee (£4.9m) remains absent so Kevin Long (£4.5m) is James Tarkowski‘s (£5.4m) centre-back partner once again as Charlie Taylor (£4.5m) continues his extended run as the first-choice left-back.

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Pope; C Taylor, Tarkowski, K Long, Lowton; McNeil, Brownhill, Westwood, Gudmundsson; Wood, A Barnes.

Tottenham Hotspur XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; B Davies, Dier, Alderweireld, Doherty; Højbjerg, Sissoko; Son, Ndombele, Moura; Kane.

Someone in the FPL towers didn't own Kane so they took the assist away... Safe to say they no longer work there. 😀

Mitchell, Semedo and Lamptey all losing their clean sheets in the last 10 minutes was a sickner tbh but 44 all out seems quite decent.

    Early thoughts here?

    (European fixtures dependent)

    A) Jimi > Kane (free)

    B) TAA + Maupay > (up to 5.4 def) + Kane (-4)

    1FT 2.5 ITB
    Martinez
    TAA Saiss Justin
    Salah Son Bruno Podence
    Jimi DCL Maupay

    Steer Struijk Mitchell Reed

    Thanks!

46 all out. Il take it with the mistake of benching antonio , losing Kilman cleansheet in the last minute , not having Kane and going TAA (c) + Robbo.

Gameweek went largely how I predicted here on Friday with Spurs winning 1-0 , albeit i had liverpool to win 2-0 not 2-1 and Salah blanking

I also had no team scoring over 3 (only leeds got more than 2) . All the underlying data was pointing to a regression and less goals scored. Underlying data will always win out eventually.

It also pointed to both Sheffield and Burnley being good defensively. Based on this I had sheffiled to concede 2 and Burnley 1 this weekend ( check on the Friday predictions thread)

Smallish red arrow from 290k to 380k. No idea what im doing with my team which needs surgery. Will again be using the underlying data to guide.

      1. FPL_trail_runner

        TLDR

The underlying data was predicting fewer goals were gona be scored going forward

The underlying data was showing Burnley and Sheffield were in the top 3 defences this season before this weekend (despite the narrative here)

The underlying data had Villa as the most overperforming team and attack in the league

        1. Seanigula
          • 14 Years

            Why the tone?

Im not professing to be some fpl guru, im just pro stats. They can help , and people are free to take or leave

Plus the format of fpl doesnt allow you to react so quickly unless it had a wildcard each week

The underlying data helps you longterm to try and build a squad

There will always be random luck and poor calls.

Dont see why you have such an issue with my post.

I could have got 100 points this week and it would mean nothing in the 'pro' underlying stats camp either,

Are you saying the majority of the top 10k managers are there solely down to skill and skill alone?

That's 100% not the case this season. We've been inundated with anomalies for results since GW1. Things are started to level out a bit now and you'd wager on normal service-ish being resumed soon.

I think that was the point of the comment. No idea why you think because someone has a score of 46 in a GW that their opinion isn't worth listening to.

Elitism is an ugly, ugly practice and in this case it misses the point. FPL is a 38 week long journey. A season will not be defined by a single gameweek.

Spurs are going to win the league.

It has shades of the Leicester season.

Two top attacking players hit the season of their lives.

Other big teams in a state of flux.

      Managerial redemption story.

      That’s all it takes.

6 games in. Or 15.79% complete. That leaves an outstanding 84.21% of the season yet to play.

I'd say it's a bit too early to be claiming anything.

They've only scored one more than Liverpool and two more than Everton and have conceded three more than Villa whilst playing one game more. They've also won 50% of their games - the worst win percentage in of all top 5 and as good as Leeds'. One saving grace is they're unbeaten in their last five Premier League games but still, if we're going to be making decisions based on early form, I'd say Everton have a great shout of winning the league.

All it takes is an injury to either Kane or Son. They just don't have the squad depth to sustain this momentum.

Kane stopping Tarkowski shot on the line should have been a 5 point play. As good as scoring is stopping a goal.

      That’s like stopping a PK.

My boy did not even get a bonus point - the clear Man of the Match
