The best mid-price FPL midfielders for 2021/22

Having scoured the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price list for the pick of the budget midfielders, we now switch our focus to the best players in the mid-price bracket.

For the purposes of this piece, we are looking at the best FPL midfielders with a starting price between £5.5m and £7.0m inclusive.

THE BEST FPL MIDFIELDERS… BIG-SIX STARTERS AND BACK-UPS

Hat-trick hero Torres making late-season claim as powerful FPL differential

After scoring five goals, including a hat-trick, in Manchester City’s final seven league games, Ferran Torres (£7.0m) is a watchlist candidate heading into the new season.

As ever, trying to predict Pep Guardiola is a fool’s game but based on Champions League line-ups we might expect the Spaniard not to be part of City’s ‘best XI’.

We’ve got every position covered, so take your pick!

Torres’ colleague Bernardo Silva comes in at the same price. The Portugal player is probably more assured of minutes but lacks Fantasy appeal, having notched just nine attacking returns over the course of 2020/21.

Jesse Lingard (£7.0m) currently wears a Manchester United shirt on FPL. His transfer situation is one to monitor after he bagged nine goals and five assists in half a season at West Ham.

Of Arsenal midfielders who played over 1,000 minutes last season, only Nicolas Pepe (£7.5m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.0m, FWD) amassed a goal chance quicker than Bukayo Saka (£6.5m).

The England international also created the joint-most big chances for the Gunners (5) along with Willian (£6.5m). Lagging just behind on four is Emile Smith-Rowe (£5.5m). It appears as though Martin Odegaard will not be coming back to the Emirates, though transfers are a fickle business at the best of times.

“Real Madrid have been clear that they would like me back. So then it will be time to go there when the training starts up again. Of course it has always been a dream to play there. I have been in the club for over six years now and that has always been the goal.” – Odegaard speaking to TV2

However, after an eight-goal loan spell at Newcastle, Joe Willock (£6.0m) could put a spanner in the Smith-Rowe works. If he remains at Arsenal, Willock would also be vying for one of Mikel Arteta’s attacking midfield spots.

As Chelsea’s first-choice penalty taker, Jorginho (£6.0m) deserves a mention considering his consistency of minutes. The Blues do begin with a difficult run of games but spot-kicks can arrive in any fixture.

Depending on who takes the manager’s hotseat at Spurs, Dele Alli (£6.5m) could make a resurgence as a Fantasy asset. The midfielder broke back into the Tottenham team in the final five Gameweeks of the season under Ryan Mason, picking up two assists along the way.

“For me, Dele was excellent. I don’t really like singling out players but it’s hard not to because I’m sure everyone felt it. He ran, he competed, he pressed, he created opportunities. I’m sure he’s disappointed not to get a goal himself. [But] it was an excellent number 10 performance, I’m really, really pleased.” – Mason on Alli’s performance v Wolves in BGW36

The Liverpool midfield in this price bracket is a slight wasteland, with Fantasy bosses unlikely to use up a precious Reds spot here.

THE BEST… NEWLY-PROMOTED ASSETS

Using the ‘per 90’ tool to assess FPL midfielders with the best goal threat 1

Ismaila Sarr (£6.0m) is a known quantity in Fantasy terms, having scored five goals and provided seven assists in Watford’s 2019/20 campaign.

The Senegal international was the Hornets’ top scorer (13) in the Championship last season. He also chipped in with four assists, playing first as a right midfielder before Xisco Munoz took over and employed a 4-3-3 system where Sarr was given greater attacking licence.

Ken Sema (£5.5m) played on the opposite side from Sarr in Watford’s three-man attack under Munoz. Over the season, the Sweden international contributed five goals and five assists. Sema scored all five of those from a wide-left attacking role, while Sarr notched eight of his tally from the other side.

At Brentford, Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m) is the standout mid-priced pick. The winger amassed eight goals and ten assists in 37 Championship starts. Mbuemo may struggle for suitors, however, considering Bees striker Ivan Toney (£6.5m) is available for an extra £1.0m.

Another former Fantasy favourite is Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell (£5.5m), who scored six times and notched two assists during the 2019/20 campaign.

The Canaries’ opening fixture run is nothing short of horrendous, so Cantwell can take a place on the watchlist as we assess this season’s version of Norwich before the fixtures turn for the better in Gameweek 5.

THE BEST FPL MIDFIELDERS… TOP-HALF OPTIONS

Raphina celebrating by hugging a teammate - mid-priced FPL midfielders

In this entire bracket, Raphinha (£6.5m) is probably the standout pick. The brilliant Brazilian scored six goals and contributed 10 assists in his debut season at Elland Road.

Only nine players had a higher expected goal involvement (xGI) over the campaign than the Leeds winger. Apart from Matheus Pereira – who was on penalties – only Mason Mount (£7.5m) is anywhere close in price to Raphinha on the rest of that list.

Leeds may have a mixed fixture list over the first six Gameweeks but their style of play lends itself to attacking returns in any game. At £6.5m, Raphinha could prove a real bargain in his second campaign under Marcelo Bielsa.

Team-mate Stuart Dallas (£5.5m) joins Raphinha in the midfield bracket, having lit up FPL last season as a £4.5m defender. The Northern Ireland man struck eight goals from an xG of 4.25 and his reclassification will dent his appeal, particularly considering Raphinha’s price.

With Ezgjan Alioksi’s contract expiring at Leeds, there is also the chance that Dallas ends up at left-back in a cruel twist of Fantasy positioning fate. That situation is one to monitor ahead of August.

Jack Harrison (£6.0m) is expected to join Leeds on a permanent deal this summer. He totalled 18 FPL goal contributions for the Whites last season, two more than Raphinha in around 500 more minutes.

Both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes have remained at £7.0m this season. The Leicester City pair managed around 2,000 minutes each, with Maddison (eight goals, seven assists) just outdoing Barnes (nine goals, five assists) in terms of goal contributions. On Barnes’ form in the earlier part of the season, Maddison commented:

“He was a threat in every game. He was blowing teams away. There were some games we’d come in at half-time and it would be, ‘Get Barnesy the ball’. I remember a few games, and especially one in the Europa League, I remember the gaffer saying at half-time, ‘There’s your match-winner, just get him the ball’, because he was so direct and in that red-hot form.”

A knee injury, which required two operations, sidelined Barnes for the final three months of the season. He is one player in particular where pre-season minutes will tell us a lot ahead of the Gameweek 1 deadline.

Maddison is also in that bracket, having been plagued with his own injury issues and some off-field discrepancies over the campaign.

Youri Tielemans (£6.5m) is a much safer Leicester option in terms of minutes, having made 37 starts last season. The Belgium midfielder returned four goals and six assists over those appearances, deputising for Jamie Vardy (£10.5m, FWD) on spot-kicks. Tielemans created a chance for his team-mates every 67 minutes and was the Foxes’ chief set-piece taker by the season’s end.

The aforementioned Lingard will be key in determining the viability of West Ham assets in attacking midfield, where Jarrod Bowen (£6.5m), Said Benrahma (£6.0m), Pablo Fornals (£6.0m) and Manuel Lanzini (£6.0m) all compete for places. Andriy Yarmolenko (£5.5m) will also be seeking minutes, having proved his fitness at EURO 2020.

Tomas Soucek (£6.0m) has been given a £1.0m price hike after his goalscoring exploits from central midfield last season. While the Czech Republic player bagged 10 goals, along with two assists, just one of those strikes came in the final nine games of the season.

At Everton, now undet the management of Rafael Benitez, both Gylfi Sigurdsson and James Rodriguez come in at £7.0m. The latter began the season on fire, with three goals and four assists in the opening six Gameweeks, before tail-offs in form and fitness saw Rodriguez burn out as a Fantasy option.

Spot-kick taker Sigurdsson, meanwhile, ticked along with six goals and five assists over the season. His minutes were patchy, totaling 2,244. While we wait to see who Benitez’s preferred personnel are at Goodison, the jury remains out on Everton midfielders.

THE BEST… OF THE REST

Emiliano Buendia (£6.5m) could rival Jack Grealish (£8.0m) for a place in our FPL squads for an Aston Villa midfielder. The ex-Norwich man had a quicker chance creation rate (30 mins v 38 mins) than Grealish during the 2019/20 season.

However, Grealish did create more chances (66 v 59) and more big chances (9 v 6) than Buendia. Nonetheless, the Argentina midfielder should offer creativity in abundance if he nails down a spot in Dean Smith’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

With potential starter Jacob Murphy coming in at £5.0m, the £5.5m options at Newcastle are of little appeal and Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.5m) has been reclassified as a forward. Murphy himself has limited appeal considering Matt Ritchie (£5.0m) also plays as a wing-back but is classified as a defender.

At Wolves, a knee injury means Pedro Neto (£6.5m) will not be available for the beginning of the season. With a tough first three Gameweeks, FPL managers can probably sit back to assess Wolves and players such as Adama Traoré (£6.0m) before considering investment in Gameweek 4.

Eberechi Eze (£6.0m) is in the same boat as Neto, injury-wise.

Eze’s team-mate Wilfried Zaha is available at his usual £7.0m price tag. The Ivory Coast international had his best Premier League scoring season over the last campaign, netting 11 goals. As with several of the options on this list, Crystal Palace’s early fixtures lack appeal and the club are also yet to appoint a replacement for Roy Hodgson.

Southampton’s ever-present captain and penalty taker James Ward-Prowse (£6.5m) logged eight goals and seven assists during 2020/21, earning himself a price rise of £0.5m heading into the new season.

With players such as Raphinha in the same price bracket, Ward-Prowse may get overlooked but he is the definition of a ‘set-and-forget’ outfielder.

On the opposite side of that argument, Graham Potter’s leaning towards rotation makes Brighton midfielders a risky-pick area. Leandro Trossard (£6.5m) appears the most viable Seagulls option here, following a five-goal, six-assist season.

Over at Burnley, Dwight McNeil (£6.0m) had a paltry campaign in Fantasy terms with two goals and five assists. Only Fulham (27) and Sheffield United (20) scored fewer goals than the Clarets (33) last season, suggesting we might be better off looking elsewhere for midfield options. We hope you liked our list of best mid-price FPL midfielders! Check out the rest of our guides and FPL tips!

    What’s everyone’s front 2/3 atm

I’m on Watkins dcl Toney atm but subject to change depending on transfers and Pre season form

Feel like with the these 3 you play the stats and also get 3 talisman who aren’t injury prone like Antonio and Wilson although still considering those 2 instead of dcl

Wilson Iheanacho and Kane, although I think I'll be moving Kane to facilitate Salah for the first few games and then go back to this.

DCL, Joao Pedro, and a 7.5m hole at the moment.
I've got Buendia and think he'll do well, so will probably avoid Watkins to start. Iheanacho, Antonio on my shortlist.
      A lot will change though.

DCL and Watkins for fixtures ready to jump to Rodrigo or Toney if form appears.
Iheanacho for form with a wary eye on Daka’s arrival and Barnes’ return impacting starts.

Most drafts I'm seeing have a permutation of 3 from 5 mid-priced forwards:

DCL, Watkins, Nacho, Toney lead the way, with Antonio lagging behind.

The highest owned forwards in the game at the minute are:

      Toney - 37.5%
      Watkins - 34.8%
      DCL - 28.3%

Followed by Kane at 25%, then big drop to Nacho in fifth at 19%, then on down to Bamford, Cavani, Antonio & Pukki (everyone else is below 10%)

Im currently on those top 3 above… but keeping a fair bit ITB to allow either a swap from a 6.0 mid to Grealish, or any forward to any other 7.5-8.0 forward - there are just too many good forwards this year to guess correctly which one or two will be the winning tickets early on

Honestly - I’d love to start with Wilson, Antonio, Bamford or Nacho - those guys are all super assets.

But you don’t need to win the game in GW1 either so no harm in starting relatively sensibly with the highly owned
/good fixture guys and react accordingly

Wish I could have just one, plus 2 playing 4.5-5.0s. Watkins seems the only obvious choice to me. Then Antonio was the next to stand out when I first looked at the prices and fixtures.

Cavani is a no brainer. When he's on the pitch he's an elite goalscorer and at least 2m underpriced. Get him while he's healthy and fresh.
Antonio and Iheanacho my other picks. More upside and explosive potential than watkins and wilson. Wouldn't touch Toney

I dunno who to go with in the 7.5-8m mid position right now. I'll probably end up keeping Grealish but the transfer speculation is putting me off for now until that's settled.

No reason not to. Probably their best rightback option. Was their most attacking outlet vs Slovakia, and scored vs Croatia. If Marcos Llorente does play, he'll play elsewhere (Enrique said something to that effect before the Croatia game) and Azpilicueta plays at RB.
Unless injured, nailed on to start.

A repost from the last article.

I haven’t seen a lot of double Liverpool defence in drafts on here. Nice fixtures to start. Only 6 midfielders scored more than TAA and Robbo (Dallas was one but he was a defender), and that was in a season where Liverpool only kept 12 clean sheets.

With VVD, Konate, Gomez and more freedom to go forward with better defenders at the back as a result, it is likely TAA and Robbo will both score close to or over 200 points?

I think they will both do well... again - I guess the dilemma for most is that there is also good/great options at 5.5 like shaw/digne etc

So the dilemma is robbo + taa and 4.5’s

      Or

      Taa + shaw/digne and 4.5’s

      What do you think ?

That said, atm I don’t have double Liverpool defence and have Grealish instead. But it is tempting. They’ll get so many clean sheets. Currently on TAA, Fofana, Lamptey, Ayling and Doherty (could be gold at 5m under Nuno). All rotate very well.

Could be a very good call. Personally I like to try have as few double-ups as I can particularly at the beginning of the season especially in defence so it's not for me and I'll stick with TAA, Shaw and a few 4.5s but it might only take a week or two for that to be broken.

      My only issues are that:

      1) It prohibits getting in Jota, should he nail down a spot.

      2) Should Vvd come back weaker, clean sheets won’t come

      3) Should Vvd come back stronger, he could score more points through goals than Robbo through assists, and be 0.5m cheaper.

I dropped Fernandes and have a lot of balance throughout the team. Now my concern is bench points.

    Sanchez
    Trent, VVD, Cresswell
    Salah, Grealish, Barnes, Saka
    Dcl, Watkins, Antonio

    Foster, Digne, Lamptey, Bissouma .5itb

Why are bench points a concern?
It's makes no difference whether your benched player scores 15 or 0 until you have a no show and then you'd prefer the 15.
Surely on balance you want points on your bench?

I'd look at Torres like I would at Foden after his first season of getting into the City team. He'll get more time but still wouldn't be enough and will be too erratic to plan for

Torres will get more gametime. He'll share the right wing 50/50 with Mahrez. Left wing split between Sterling and Foden. Then there's Jack. All need to be avoided imo.

Haaland got half a season and 16 goals in 14 games in a brief stop in the Austrian Bundesliga (what the hell is this “prem” you refer to by the way?!)

Daka has played nearly 100 games and was very prolific last season, yes, and has 57 goals in that league

Two posters who watch him last week said he’s overrated, basically shite and avoid

There is no world of life where I start second guessing opinions of people who’ve allegedly watched him, and go for a striker who has to first of all actually get into a forward line of Vardy, Nacho, Barnes, Perez etc before he can then start thinking about scoring his first premier league goal…

Especially when there about 8-9 other, proven strikers who will start, for the same price or 0.5 more

Yes we get it - you like Liverpool, you love them, you even have your own Liverpool WhatsApp group where you discuss all their games after watching them with your Liverpool mates, yes Liverpool were linked with Daka, yes you’ve somehow heard that he (allegedly) turned down Liverpool because he wasn’t going to start, and therefore is guaranteed to start for Leicester, yes Haaland played in the Austrian Bundesliga for a couple of months as an 18 year old and therefore Daka is going to be great

Perfect logic imo - why didn’t anyone else think of it?!!

Do I have to spell out premier league? Everyone avoided haaland because red bull Salzburg who have unearthed many players for liverpool, mane keita minamino, are not good enough. United could have done with him for 17 mil but Salzburg are crap. Chelsea let's get Werner instead. City kane for 100 please. They all stuffed up when they needed a striker.

                        Do proper research man.

He has been outstanding for two seasons. All of his goals have come in last 2 seasons. Nothing before that. I wonder why? Could it be that he has matured as a footballer and is ready for bigger things?

Liverpool are in the market but have little money. They like Salzburg. They buy from them. Daka cost 23 million. Of course he fits te bill.

                        Too good to be rotated.

                        Wont come to us

                        Our loss

                          😆

Enjoy - I fully expect to see him in your team GW1 after this now, and that you’ll give him at least 5-6 weeks for his inner Haaland to channel through 😉

Meanwhile anyone with half a brain will realise they can easily sign him if/when he ever firstly nails down a slot, and secondly then starts to deliver on that place he’s won

                          You’ll never walk alone!! 😆

What kind of output would justify that price? How many points should he get to make it worth it?

He is on a goal a game for 2 years straight. Will that regress in the premier league? Most likely. Will it regress to the point where 7.5 is fair, I would say that is laughable

Why not sign for liverpool in that case?

            Must have assurances

More chance of gametime at Leicester with Vardy in the twilight of his career.

Were Liverpool really in for him? No way he chooses Leicester over Liverpool if they actually bid.

This is my point. If we were in for him and I think we were for reasons already stated. We need a forward. We can only afford his price range. We like his club. We like the way their players are coached. We have signed 3 players who played for them. So if we were in for him and he said no, then he said no over playing time. Then he is happy with what leicster have said to him.

Then you look at his form for 2 years. He did nothing before. Think about that. Same league but suddenly explodes and does it for 2 seasons. Carries on form at international level last season. Again not much before against same opposition. Then consider his price. No brainer for me. But he could be a Werner and i will be wrong. He could also be a Salah. Difference is 7.5 is easier to swallow if he flops

Could also be delusions of grandeur put Liverpool off and Leicester were happy to tell him a few porky pies.

I love how “he turned down Liverpool because he was told he wouldn’t start” has now turned into “ if we were in for him and I think we were” 😆

One of the statements is speculative and has no proof

                      The other is reasonable

Can you guess which is which?

I can hold both of those statements and I do.

One may be more speculative than the other but I have not changed my mind

You may not have changed your mind but (thankfully), your mind doesn’t influence the objectivity of the statements on which your argument is based 🙂

I.e. one statement is speculative (and thus could be utter bullshite) the other is perfectly reasonable… but undermines the narrative that Daka is a sensible GW1 pick and quote-unquote “a joke” at 7.5m 😆

I dont think either do that.

He is a good gw1 pick based on form over last 2 seasons.

Is there wisdom in waiting to see if he is a first team player? That's not a bad idea. It's also not the only idea.

I am influenced by my liverpool knowledge and maybe I am wrong.

But if I am right, then we need not worry about rotation, which makes his selection at 7.5 based on last 2 seasons a lock for me.

The original comment says 0.6%. That's where I think the fpl community is missing a trick. I have researched this player for months anticipating an approach from us. When it cooled, I assumed he was too expensive. His price raises eyebrows. I dont think we dont go for him at that price. It has been alleged it was about playing time. That makes sense.

Either he is crap and liverpool were not interested (your version)

Or we were interested but couldn't get him. (My version)

If I am right, how does he not start for leicster?

                            OP:

“Oh and didn't want liverpool because of rotation just for those who think leicster are rotating this guy.”

                            Several posts later:

“ If we were in for him and I think we were.”

You’re all over the place mate - you don’t even know for sure that Liverpool definitely tried to sign him, let alone started talks, let alone had things break down due to a lack of certainty over his start. You’ve never even watched him play.

That should tell you all you need to know

And we’ll be eagerly anticipating this (again quote-unquote) 7.5 joke’s presence in your team come GW1 😉

He is a lock in my team from the moment the price was released. If he starts he will stay for at least 3 games. If he blanks but looks threatening then I will back myself and keep him.

I did the same with Salah and Werner to be fair. Many did not start with Salah in his first season due to failing at Chelsea. They were wrong and they never caught those points back up from me as the best they could do was match me after correcting their error.

I did the exact same research on Salah as I did o daka. I have seen enough, and I am telling you he is a starter, not a squad player. Will his form translate to premier league? Who knows. But at that price he is a mistake in the game. He has been priced as a rotational player. I have always used my liverpool knowledge to advance my game. Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does. This guy is a bloody good player. If we whiffed on him that is very unlike Michael Edward's track record. I have given Good reasons why we would be interested. We need another forward. We like Salzburg players. We only have 20 to 30 million to spend on said forward. Who the hell is 20 million and better than this guy? Are you believing we missed this guy? I am not. Something has gone wrong. I wonder what that may be?

Dude - you’ve already been told - knock yourself out, break a leg, have at it - no one is stopping you

Begin GW1 with a player who we don’t know will even start ahead of Vardy, Nacho, Barnes, Perez etc, let alone adapt to the premier league

And as you’ve also already been told - in parallel with this anyone with half a brain will know by now in FPL that - if in doubt (like Pepe, like Pulisic, like Werner, like Ziyech, like Havertz… even Sadio Mane got 1 goal and 1 assist in his first 10 premier league appearances) it’s better to be a week late than 5/10/20 weeks early - and can easily sign him if/when the form comes….so all those early points will be all yours

I lurk here all the time and already saw this.

                            Not interested.

Did not get involved because I dont need to be convinced or dissuaded.

I know I am playing daka from week 1. Only one guy can change my mind and his name is Brendan.

My post was about his price, which is clearly impacted by the assumption that he is a squad player and must earn his spot. If this is true then 7.5 is fine. However as a liverpool fan who loves this time of year and is good at picking future liverpool players out. Daka fits the bill. His price is right for us. We need legs in our aging front 3. We scout this team. We played them last year twice. We know this player. We knew he was on the move. If he is happy to be rotated why not come to us?

You dont like my narrative. You dont think its plausible. It's the most sense I can make of how this guy ended up at leicster given our financial situation and the season we just had. Bobby is done, mane is a yard slower. Salah wants to leave. Edward's is a genius.
You think the "he is crap"narrative, or the "we dont want him" narrative makes more sense?

I think the “players new to the league are risky - Pepe, Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Mane” narrative makes more sense

I think the “there are many forwards at 7.5-ish we can go to before picking an unproven player” narrative makes sense

I think the “he is so easy to jump onto at 7.5 if by some chance (and there is always a chance) he does (a) win a regular start ahead of Vardy, Nacho, Barnes, Perez and (b) delivers FPL returns at a greater rate than the other excellent (and proven) 5,6,7 7.5m-ish striker options with that start” narrative makes sense

I think the “people from Zambia posted on here to avoid him” narrative makes sense (if they’re “lying” as you put it, then shame on them, not on me or you)

But best of luck with picking him GW1 and sticking with him for the first month or two to let all this Haaland-esque class from the Austrian League shine through 😉

I have no problem with your approach.

In fact I freely admit I have a weakness for new players and usually they take time to adapt. You are probably wiser than me on this matter.

But I find anyone claiming to be zambian and not liking daka highly suspicious. I think you should forget you ever read that rubbish.

I am south African. Our best player in my life time was Benedict McCarthy.

Do you want to know what I thought of him?

Daka is playing amazing football. His move to the premier league is good for his country.

A normal response is to be supportive and excited. Saying the guy is crap

                            😆 Let’s try again

Here is what I believe - for the record:

I believe players new to the league are risky - for example - Pepe, Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Mane

I believe there are many forwards at 7.5-ish we can go to before picking an unproven player - for example Nacho (who already starts for Dhaka’s club, and has done amazingly with his start), Wilson, Watkins, Antonio, DCL, Bamford… the list goes on

I believe Daka is so easy to jump onto at 7.5 if by some chance (and there is always a chance) he does (a) win a regular start ahead of Vardy, Nacho, Barnes, Perez and (b) delivers FPL returns at a greater rate than those other excellent (and proven) 5,6,7 7.5m-ish striker options above with that start that he may/may not win

I believe people (at least claiming to be) from Zambia posted on here to avoid him, and I believe if they’re “lying” as you put it, then shame on them, not on me or you

And I also now believe you will start with him in GW1 as you promised, and you will stick with him for the first month or two to let all this Haaland-esque class from the Austrian League shine through

So after a complete character assassination 5 minutes ago you believe him now 😆

Very reminiscent of the rollback from “he turned down Liverpool over security of start” all the way to “I think Liverpool might have tried to sign him” within the space of a few posts

I can’t keep up with these changes 😆

What I can keep up with is what I believe though - and here you go again, for the record:

I believe players new to the league are risky - for example - Pepe, Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, Ziyech, Mane

I believe there are many forwards at 7.5-ish we can go to before picking an unproven player - for example Nacho (who already starts for Dhaka’s club, and has done amazingly with his start), Wilson, Watkins, Antonio, DCL, Bamford… the list goes on

And I also now believe you will start with him in GW1 as you promised, and you will stick with him for the first month or two to let all this Haaland-esque class from the Austrian League shine through

                            Oh shame,

Are you still trying to prove points I have said are valid?

                            Why?

Let me quote myself from earlier:
"I have no problem with your approach.

In fact I freely admit I have a weakness for new players and usually they take time to adapt. You are probably wiser than me on this matter."

Geez if this is not enough for you, not sure what else you want from me.

Repeatedly ramming the same points down my throat after an attempt at an olive branch.

Time to step away from the computer.

Exactly mate - you could have stepped away 24 hours (and about a hundred posts) ago when you were told

Dude - knock yourself out, break a leg, have at it - no one is stopping you

You'll never walk alone after all 😆

Think somewhere between Bruno & Rashford - 10m or possibly even 10.5m - though unsure if they'd actually price him a whole 1m higher than Rashford. His goal involvements past two seasons suggest its possible, though.

Villa and Leeds - not top 4 but both will be damn good fun to watch this season. FPL-wise, lack of rotation and sheer quality will make their assets prized indeed.

I think it’s the depth of squad of the Top 4 that keeps them there. i.e. if their ‘Grealish’ gets injured, they have another one ready on the bench.

Don't get all the Morata love myself. Tidy finish the other night yes but he's been pretty bad all tournament up till then, plus the missed penalty. Think it's a disaster waiting to happen. Much prefer Seferovic myself on a WC and two Spanish mids, especially when there's options like Schick, Lukaku, Seferovic as mentioned and Immobile.

it feels like a case of a striker just needing to find the goal at the right time to open the floodgates. He had loads of chances that he didnt score, but was close. I'm betting he scores those for the rest of the tournament.

I understand that but I just can't do it to myself. The torture! Rather have the likes of Torres and Sarabia in my midfield who have a couple of goals each already and look far more clinical for less money. Those extra millions go a long way. Of course if it bites me then there you go but I can deal with that. I'd be more annoyed if I went against my gut and got him in for a blank.

Think it's more the opposition just recently conceding 3 and playing 120 minutes, he gets plenty of opportunities and hsi goal might spark some confidence/form. I'm taking the gamble.

I'm going big on Spain (activated my WC) with 3-4 players. Mostly just because I back them to progress to the next round. Got Azpi &Simón as they're kindly priced, Morata and maybe F.Torres but undecided on that one.

I'm trying to limit myself to a max of 3 players from each team because I don't want another Netherlands situation. Currently on an attacking Spanish defender (Laporte/Azpi/Alba - can't decide) and F.Torres and Sarabia in midfield. If I added Morata to that it could be overkill. Croatia proved that Spanish defence can be got at so I'm backing Seferovic for a goal.

True but then my argument would be:
                  1) More free transfers now, so less risk
                  2) A lot of people have already used WC, so getting players/teams with low % provides a good oportunity for jumping ranks. I think Spain right now present a good opportunity with what I would describe as the second easiest fixture to play and not many with their players.

You should consider that they scored 3 goals vs France & Spain conceded 3 goals vs Non Perisic Croatia

Only 8 teams to pick a defence from though. Odds would favour Spain I imagine over most.

Odds also favour the Netherlands & France.

I think I'll play safe, got players from all teams to avoid any unexpected results.

Sure but it depends how do you do it. For example, for France I had Benzema and Lloris, didn't matter they went out. In the case of Simón he's cheap and playing the first day, and azpi is cheap plus the benefit of attacking returns. For me, this is playing safe and allowing for best opportunity for returns.

If you remove Swiss and Ukraine there's only 6 teams to pick 7 defenders (inc. GK) from.

There really aren’t many strikers to chose from and people are scared to chose Swiss and Czech players because they think they’ll lose.

I’m going for Schick. I think the Czechs will win.
Probably go with Morata over Kane due to Spain creating more chances. (Already have Immobile).

Kane off the mark though versus a shattered Ukraine who just played a gruelling extra 30 minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if Kane got a brace and tossed his hat into the golden boot ring.

That would be quite a turn of form - he'd need 4 goals from the last 3 games to draw level with Ronaldo at this point.

You might be right - but nothing we've seen in the tournament, from his form, England's set up and attacking attitude makes me think that will happen. Would be great for England if he did!

Similar form, except Spain have created WAAAAAY more chances than England - and clearly they are set up to outscore opponents rather than defend for a 1-0.

Also price is a big difference - all the Spanish attackers are cheaper than England. Plus we'll know their line up.

Morata for me will likely be the fallback because I don't have the guts to go with Seferovic and Schick both...

            2x 4.5 defenders and a 5.5 mid / 6 fwd is too much?

5.5 is on the expensive side for a fifth mid, was what I was referring to.

Aye. I was think Gilmour if he moves too. ESR and Welbeck don’t feel great to me.
Maybe ESR to Gilmour let’s me upgrade the 4.0 def.

Coufal is a machine. If there’s anyone I expect to play every minute it’s him. I’m biased as a hammers fan but think he’s a season keeper if WH are even 75% as hood as last year.

Yeah I had him for a long while last year loved him. Good player, great signing by Moyes that.

Not when you've got Welbeck in there! I don't see the point of him - how many games will he start? I'd downgrade him to a starter, like J Pedro or a 4. like Obafemi. Then you can have a decent 5th 4.5 defender.
Alternatively, upgrade Welbex 0,5 to Toney and downgrade ERS

Yeah the extra 1.0 from Gilmour could do the 4.0 defender and get Welbeck to Toney - that might be the way to go.

I would love to get him up to Wilson at 7.5 - but I'd have to find another 0.5 other than ESR > Gilmour...are there multiple 4.0 defenders to go for? Seems risky.

No. I'd keep an eye on BWilliams who may get a move/loan to Saints. He's the only 4m worth a thought.
Gilmour is a terrific player but not for FPL. You'll get more chance of a goal or assist from Bissouma or Brownhill for 4.5

Did Raphinha not justify more than 6.5?

Silliest price I can ever remember seeing in FPL. At the price you just can't not have him, can you?

What are ppl without a WC doing for quarterfinals; can get 11 out with no hit, but is it worth a hit or two to give some cover? KDB and Berardi are part of that 11

In tempted to get cover for KDB & Berardi for an extra -4.

I'm getting Sterling and have Damsgaard already.

I'm struggling to think of fun day 2 punts - Schick is my best idea.
Have Damsgaard and Maehle like most.
I don't see England scoring heaps but will likely add Sterling.

Maybe there's an exciting Czech mid? Holes, Soucek...not really doing it for me.

Yeah I don't think I'd have anyone except Sterling & Damsgaard from Day 2 mids.

Think there are better options from Day 1 like Sarabia, Ferran, Shaqiri, Insigne, Chiesa.

Am I missing a big hitter????
        Sanchez l 4.0
        TAA l Robbo l Shaw l Fofana l 4.0
Salah l Rashford l Grealish l Raphina Barnes
        Antonio l Watkins

Salah will be captain most weeks so do t feel the need for KDB. Bruno is certainly tempting but prefer Rashford + Robbo over Bruno + 4.5

Be weary of Rashy, needs surgery so I see him missing the start of the season. Go Greenwood if you want a Utd attacker.

Will Greenwood play with Sancho now at the club? A MU fan colleague says they expect he'll play CF as that's where he's best but I don't know if I go along with that from what I've seen, although if Martial leaves then I guess that might make sense as Cavani can only play so often

Non WC, how many hits are you taking? Seriously considering a -12. Or a -8. Seeing quite a few WC’s without Kane, why?

Current plan is a -4 to get to 11 starters.

An extra hit would likely be for a 4th defender, I already have Spinna & Maehle and struggling to think of someone with attacking upside that would make it worth it.

Im considering a -12. Currently only have 7 players including KDB + Berardi. Lets call that 5, a -12 will give me 11, incase Berardi and KDB dont play. I have a 9 point cushion at the top of my ML. I feel without hits the people behind me with wildcards will close in more than if i didnt bring in a few hits.

that makes sense to me with KDB and Berardi.
I'm lucky I didn't get in either so I can be pretty sure of a starting 11 - especially knowing the Spain lineup.

        Whats the fuss with Sancho?

Mkhitaryan, Kagawa, Werner and Havertz did also pretty well in bundes but failed in premier league.

I'd hardly call Havertz a failure, he's young and started off the season in a new country and a very different league and got Covid early on. He was deployed in a crazy amount of different positions too under Lampard but ended the season very well and was arguably the only German player at the Euros to impress. Werner had a poor season but he (as well as Havertz) admitted the PL is far tougher and more intense than the Bundesliga and he's only had one season so he could yet come good. The others, yeah, fair.

While I wouldn't call Havertz a failure, I do agree in that I wouldn't risk a new player from outside the prem for the first week. It does seem to take most a while to adjust. Bruno showed why it can pay off though!

        Sanchez
        Taa, VVD, Cresswell
        Salah, Rashford, Barnes, Buendia
        Dcl, Watkins, Antonio

Alli is a very streaky player so if he looks like he'll be playing through preseason then might be worth a shot, he's too hot and cold for me personally to choose him

Too many others in the same bracket who we know will grab their games by the scruff of the neck. He's just a will he/won't he performer these days, who takes up valuable room in a squad.

        Stones worth a -4, it's effectively a 2 pointer but still better than KDB/Berrardi... I think.
