Thoughts on this team? WC after gw 1

    Henderson
    TAA, White, Hall
    Saka, Son, Jota, B Fernandes
    Isak, Havertz, Solanke

    Valdi, Rodgers, Mykolenko, Barco

To bring in City players and get a better idea of how this season is going to roll out.

Playing a WC after gw1 is wild. You won’t have an idea how the season will pan out until at least 3 or so games in. Even the best players will likely be off the pace in gw1.

I like the starting 11 and made more sense to invest in the bench than to have money in the bank. Who would you upgrade?

Well there’s no way I wouldn’t have triple Liverpool and I’d be upgrading Henderson as well.

Also no guarantee Solanke definitely starts or that Havertz plays upfront. If BBing you want to be sure of these things

        form dependant you'd guess

its either going to be Son Solanke Johnson with Kulu as most advanced mid. or Son Solanke Kulu with Maddison as most advanced mid.

Am planning to WC in GW6 but looking at the fixtures in GW5, I think that could be a perfect opportunity to BB.

I could end up 14 players with home games that week plus Mykolenko away to Leicester.

Makes more sense considering the reduced number of DGWs this season and that I'll be wildcarding the following week anyway.

Don’t teams concede at home like ?

      1. The Tonberry
        • 1 Year

Of course they do. But the odds of keeping a clean sheet or getting an attacking return are greater when they are at home or/and favoured to win.

Projected BB GW5 team will look like:

        Arsenal (h) - Haaland, Gvardiol
        Man Utd (h) - Henderson
        Newcastle (h) - Smith-Rowe, Robinson
Ipswich (h) - Southampton's starting 4.5 keeper who will be on the bench most weeks.
Bournemouth (h) - Salah, Jota, Quansah
        Wolves (h) - Watkins, Rogers
        Brentford (h) - Solanke
        Forest (h) - Barco, Minteh
        Leicester (a) - Mykolenko

I think with a fixture list for your squad like that, then BB is definitely worth consideration. I should also have 2FT in the bank in case there are injuries or if any of the team lose their place in the first XI.

So you’ll transfer them in AFTER the hatty?

They’ve both had full pre seasons unlike many, both had multiple returns pre season and play Ipswich in GW1 and GW2 … what more are you looking for?

          1. Melvin Udall
            • 11 Years
            1 year, 3 months ago

Yup. 27.5 mill for 2 players is a lot of cheese. My team looks much stronger without them in it. I don't want a team full of 4.5 defenders and 5 mill midfielders.

Once they get a hatty then I will know at that point they are firlt, cooking on gas and firing on all cylinders and a fair indication more will soon follow.

As per my comment earlier - pre season suggests they are already in good shape. You never want to wait until AFTER the haul - especially with proven assets like those two.

    G: Hendo / 4.0
D: Porro, Quansah, Robinson, Myolenko, Barco
M: Saka, Son, Gordon, Jota, ESR
    F: Haaland, Isak, and 4.5

3-5-2 formation. Gordon and Jota feel more solid than Eze and Nkunku who have worries at Chelsea and Palace about where they will play and missing key players. 5.5 has ESR but that 5.5 slot feels great this year with Minteh, Jacob Murphy, and can be used for Bobb/Ramsey.

Decided on Son over Solanke. Son is just more sure thing and Solanke isn’t really coming at a discount. He is priced at 7.5 which is same as Toney from 2022-2023. At 7.5, Solanke needs to repeat the same season as last year at minimum.

For those advocating for no Salah as he is too expensive, too old, too not good value for money with decent cheaper alternatives etc. Is it not a good idea to remember that class is permanent? He hasn't all of a sudden turned into a bad player over the last few summer weeks and has an easy start to the season plus is nailed and is an easy downgrade to Son, Palmer, Saka etc. when they are all back if he does not do well. It will be easier to sell him and upgrade elsewhere if he does not start well than bring him in if he bangs them in first few GWs.

All true, but there is just so much value in the mid-price mid bracket. Mo is now expendable.

Not sure I agree but maybe. I would argue there is a reason he is priced at 12.5m and the mids I am seeing in my people's teams are priced at 5.5-6.5m. Anybody more expensive than that that people would actually want, with the exception of Diaz and Jota, are rotation risks for the first few until they are match fit (Saka, Gordon, Palmer etc.)

Good for Newcastle but not for FPL even more uncertainty over who starts, will prob go back to Pope then instead of Hall

Schar is injured so there is a slot at centre-back. Burn, Hall, Trip shd be safe

Do you think Burn will move to Left Back if this happens or will Hall continue playing?

Burn and Guehi CB. Schar has to win the place back when fit.

i expect Hall to start GW1 with minutes in pre-season and easy fixture.

        beyond that, no clue tbh

Nah. All they've done is make another bid which is still short of Palace's valuation

They are edging much closer and haven't spent much in the market this summer. It should happen.

Maybe, but it's not happening yet

this looks final. palace want 70, Newcastle bid 50, we'll meet in the middle. doubt Newcastle go over 60 and/or Palace walk away from an offer like that

Palace don't really need to sell, they've sold Olise for big money. I wouldn't be surprised if they hold firm on their valuation

They may do, but I think Newcastle can afford to meet it

hmm maybe. but when you're a midtable PL side you sell your best assets a the right time, this is the right time to sell Guehi. Puts them in the green (with Olise sale) for a long time. Gives the Glasner project legs and lets him almost have a blank cheque (relatively speaking) to bring players he wants to really put his stamp on the team.

biggest fear for midtable PL clubs is not selling well, a few dud signings and relegation becomes a real possibility. happened with Leicester, currently happening with Everton.

A for GW1 not sure why but Watkins hasn't played any pre-season. I am on Solanke/Son/Porro for the same price 🙂

My main weakness in FPL are my blind spots. These are popular picks I for some reason write off early doors, and often I don’t understand why.

This year, my blind spots are Gvardiol, Eze, Solanke.

If you were to sell me these players, what would you say to convince me?

I appreciate answers of the other side of the coin too, for balance!

Thanks everyone. More than happy to do the same for any players you’d like me to comment on 🙂
