About that Pickford stat: what could make a GK's form dip so badly? Has he looked as bad at making saves for England over this international break?

The stat is misleading, they are comparing 3 game weeks to an entire season.

Everton started very baldy last season. Everton only became a defensive powerhouse in the second half of the season after their points deduction and they had to stave off relegation, ie, they had something to play for. They also had Branthwaite, so the quality of shots Pickford maybe was facing was lower quality.

I expect largely the same from Everton again this season. Just as everyone starts to shift Myko and Pickford out, they will become strong defensively. Given their extremely nice fixture run that is on the horizon, I guess it will be a lot sooner than the second half of the season this time, you'd assume so anyway..

I will be seriously considering Pickford or at least Myko from GW5 onwards, just when everyone is selling them. Myko will maybe be 4.3/4.2 by then.

All those goals from within the six yard box suggests to me that it's the defence that's shot. Branthwaite shaped hole atm

Love the big numbers article. Slight disappointment that Neale is taking this one as usual. He always unearths some amazing stats out of the members area.

Muniz is the dictionary definition of what Zoph calls "all fart and no poo" and what Neale calls "all sizzle and no steak":

"1 goal scored by Rodrigo Muniz (£6.1m) from his last 34 shots in the Premier League, a conversion rate of just 2.94%."

      Benteke-esque!!

I'd settle for a few 3 point GWs given his price. Anything else would be a bonus. I may keep him as a 8th attacker when I come to WC, but depends on whether he maintains starts and actually gets some FPL points.

Isak has wolves followed by Fulham. Any ideas why he's been sold by 500,000?

Presumably to enable an upgrade to Salah in midfield?

Yes for Salah also Newcastle look terrible and have history of not being great away and Wolves defence not bad xG wise and Ait-Nouri moved out of defence after Chelsea debacle

Let’s be honest, he is so highly owned because of the GW1 captaincy, he’s an obvious sell to fund other upgrades.

I left it late to make game 1 team and going Isak was influenced by content creators saying must have. I could've started with Salah over Saka and cheaper forward but if I'm being honest I wasn't sure how Salah would do under new manager so went with some safety in numbers picks

Same, Salah was too expensive for me at the start, wanted to see how they looked under Slot, now it’s clear he’s looking as good as ever, he has to come in.

Took him on with Saka & a more rounded team & didn’t suffer but I don’t want to continue to go against him now, Isak was one of the fall guys.

        Don’t agree with that

27 starts last season and 25 FPL returns, 21 of those being goals, at £8.5m

Newcastle with no Europe as well. It’s not an obvious sell, people are just panicking to get Salah in

He’s an obvious sell because there are forwards at 6m who will contribute so you can see why many don’t want to spend 8.5 on a forward when they have 15m on Haaland & 12.5 on Salah.

I had both him & Wood, Wood was the harder sell for me.

            • 9 Years

These forwards being Brighton attackers, but it’s a small sample size and there’s a lot of options in that team

Good example, Pedro, 3m cheaper, 2 returns in ‘harder’ fixs with an ‘easier’ next 2.

People aren’t waiting for 10 weeks so they can get more comforting data to get the structure they want with prices moving.

yeah most did that. Saka was a solid pick. RC didn't help although Newcastle has been poo, but so has Southampton XG.

Most went Jota, the luckier (so far) got Diaz.

Nobody expected for Salah and Haaland to get 41 points each. At that rate, Haaland will get 88 goals this season lol

If I was WC, I would punt on the Salah Palmer Eze Mbuemo Semenyo midfield I think.

Combination of shiny new toys to go to, potentially cheaper options, people unhappy that he hasn't got mega hauls, and those who just copy content creators then don't really know why a player is in their team.

Another thing about selling Isak to get Salah. Was short term play as I'll want Havertz GW6 so Isak going 2 weeks earlier based on Toon form. If I held Isak next 2 weeks he's probably going for Havertz unless he kills it(hope not now)

Newcastle have been underwhelming, I get GW1 was unlucky with the red card but otherwise, not impressed. I did have Gordon & Isak as my first picks in my team at the start of the season (prior to Haaland/Salah too)

This I don't get though. How could they justify that? Lost Trippier, arguably one of their best players in their UCL qualifying season. Haven't replaced their LB with any significant signing (Kelly, meh - Hall couldn't get buy a start last year). Tonali will be like a new signing again, haven't managed to land a decent CB and Schar has more grey hairs than my Grandad.

Picked up Barnes who plays in Gordon's position and shifted Gordon to the RW because they haven't filled this position either. Whilst they were fantastic two years ago, what have they really done other than Isak + Tonali?

Some believe that they can do better than last year given no European games and hopefully no injury crisis. I could see them finishing anywhere between 4th and 10th this season.

    Mazraoui, Konsa, Dunk

thinking of doing Bruno, Iwobi, Robertson ➡ Diaz, Gordon and Munoz for -4. would give:

    Pope
    TAA Porro Munoz
    Diaz Jota Gordon Eze
    (H)aaland Isak Havertz

worth it? will depend on whether Diaz looks likely to start still though

Different from previous seasons in the sense that you can carry up to 5ft’s instead of 2. In your example, if you currently have 3FT and use just 1ft, you will have 3FT again the following gw.

Its potentially very bad if he is benched. They have 2 great immediate fixtures, then average ones. If he is benched for that first one, the best fixture, then his appeal is massively diminished. Chelsea and Spurs aren't bad fixtures, but not ideal.

I understand why people got him, and the late call up was a surprise, but there's still many still getting him in on WC with this information. That said, there aren't other great options, Wood has Pool next for example. If it was me, I guess I would either risk Wood, go with a punt on DCL, or go Welbeck.

I don't think it's 'weird' getting Pedro at all. A WC is for multiple weeks. Brighton look good from an attacking perspective and with their new manager it seems they won't be rotating all the time so at that price Pedro is great value even if this week he just gets 1 point off the bench.
          Fwiw I'm on a WC a

All those comments are total BS speculation like all the content creators saying Rogers minutes are probably limited when they have no clue and just hedging their bets. I got Lewis at 4.5 on aggressive FT last week so free-rolling so it's harder for someone to get him now at higher price

The first question would be is he defender #3 or #4? Is it a 4.0 coming in if he doesn't play, or someone better?

I'm a City fan with a better than average record when predicting Pep roulette. But its still roulette, and it burns us all if we play it enough. I've stated the case against Lewis before - Walker being eased in, Pep's "pre-season is over" comment the other day etc. But here's some data if it helps.

Lewis started 8 PL games last season. 4 consecutively when Walker was injured, the season opener at LB when Gvardiol wasn't up to speed yet, two in midfield when Rodri was unavailable, and one midweek vs Burnley when Walker was rested. Walker was clearly the PL pick at RB.

In Champions League it was a bit different. Lewis started most group games, but often as an 8 and sometimes with Walker in the lineup too. Some of these domestically would be great - OOP minutes! But this happened while KDB was injured, and Gundogan wasn't around. It has yet to be tried in the Premier League.

City's CL opener is Inter, one of their tougher ones. This makes the Pep roulette harder to pre-empt than normal.

Now, Walker is 34, and Lewis is 19. At some point he takes over. Some people think that time is now. I personally don't, but that's not necessarily important. For us its the rotation risk that matters, and a fit and firing Walker clearly provides that risk.

Robinson is the main other option at the price point. There's a lot of meat and potatoes players at 4.5. Dunk, Colwill and so on. Do you prefer the attacking upside of Lewis with the minutes risk, the nailed minutes attacking upside of Robinson in a worse team, or a safer but low ceiling option?

    GW3 - Kamada > Minteh
    GW4 - Save

When are you planning on WC? Given the planned FTs, I'd maybe hold on the Kamada to Minteh move to give some flexibility. The later FTs look good, but maybe some wiggle room of another FT might help.

      1. have you seen cyan
        • 6 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

Not sure when, maybe around 10.

The Minteh move is a bit out of worry of having no Brighton, and Kamada having done nothing yet. Originally it was gonna be Mitoma until I realised it blocked Saka. If it was Mitoma, I would say it is worth it, but for Minteh who is also a minutes risk, I am not sure its worth it any more. So I kind of agree with what you said.

Maybe I should just hope Kamada returns vs Leicester.

        1. Hairy Potter
          • 10 Years

I think if you're set on a Brighton attacker then maybe go for it. If you have a urgent transfer need then you could take a hit, go Isak to Havertz instead or delay getting Mbeumo. All the planned moves look sound at the minute, but a lot can change.

I have crunched some numbers. I think you are right. The Minteh move is not worth it.

If I don't do that Minteh move, I will have 3 transfers after GW5 so I can not only get Saka in and Isak out, but also get Raya in at the same time. Which is important as I have no Arsenal defence at all. Plus I currently have Onana who is gonna concede in 6, 7, 8 and 9.

            Thanks.

What's with all the Content Creator bashing? Is it just jealousy? Start making your own content then! If you don't think they are anything special surely YOU could do as well or match their achievements so far?

Should you be influenced by people? Sometimes. All the time like a sheep? No.

Some people don't have time to do research in order to make a reasonable team. I wonder how many copied Andy Lets Talk FPL picks? He's a great FPL manager no question but we all can get stuff wrong.

I honestly think if I hadn't been on BB GW1 I'd of started with Quansah, Barco and Nkunku. It was just lucky I didn't. The logic was there for those picks. Don't worry, still early days, plenty of time. You can still win FPL right now even if you're at 5m, anything is possible!

    Let's all be friends eh?

I think if its constructive criticism of the content then that's fair game. I'd imagine a lot of it is personal though, not on X/Twitter so I don't know but I know having been on it once upon a time its not a nice place most of the time.

Some folk place far too much faith in what the creators say and perhaps that is what drives the hate? Its the same sort of thing that tipsters get with betting. If you give an opinion (or a tip) you are going to be wrong a lot but this is quite an alien concept in most fields where you wouldn't give advice publicly if you weren't something of an expert and even then you'd heavily caveat that advice. Look at the way Martin Lewis talks about things, very cautious with a lot of his advice.

On another note a gripe I have is some of the managers are dining off very historic achievements when the game was very different.

Its a very crowded marketplace and I'd be surprised if half the creators currently around will be here in a few years.

    Thoughts on this WC team?

I was called out in my previous post for trying to claim this was “a bit different,” referring to my double double defence so I’m now asking for collective opinions on this VERY TEMPLATE team:

    0.1 ITB

    Starting XI:

    • GK: Raya
    • DEF: Robertson, Saliba, Alexander-Arnold
    • MID: Semenyo, Mitoma, Smith Rowe, Salah [Vice-Captain]
    • FWD: Haaland [Captain], João Pedro, Havertz

    Bench:

    • GK: Fabianski
    • DEF: Greaves, Taylor
    • MID: Winks

Personally i think too much money is spent on defense. I'd drop Robertson and/or Raya to upgrade one of your mids to someone like Eze/Jota/Diaz.

Looks fine, main problems is the weak bench and flexibility , will need to use FT's to replace enablers if they no longer perform or get injured and then also need atleast 2FT to bring in a Foden/Palmer/Saka unless planning to drop Salah/Haaland at some point

Thanks all for the feedback - taken on board, I’ll think about it.
I should add that I’m stockpiling FTs; I have 3 so far and, all being well with injuries etc, would hold to get to 5 so if I want to downgrade defence then upgrade mid, I have the transfers to do it.

    6. _Freddo

I like it, I’m not sure id keep Smith Rowe on a WC though, us owners got away with it in the first 3 weeks but his early subs & lack of real shots on goal has to be a concern.

Banking transfers is a good tactic too, people say you lack flexibility but you have the ultimate flexibility with FTs in the bank, I’m planning to keep 2 in the bank as a minimum once I get to 5 (also on 3)

Double double defence could be genius but not sure these are the two weeks to do this.

My plan is to not have haaland in my wildcard, keep the funds and bring him in GW7. Obviously worried but just seeing what people think.

So instead of pedro and haaland I'm going with watkins and isak. I won't be captaining haaland anyway so I might as well take a punt, is what I'm thinking. Watkins will score big sometime, and isak is 42% owned and could bite me if pedro comes back late too. Tonali is back and he helps them. I'm worried by haaland but he doesn't do too well against brentford, they have inter soon and he flew to kazakhstan and back.

The thing with haaland is that, people say his minutes are assured because they have nobody else. Perhaps that makes it worse. Then luke said they players who can play the false 9 like silva, foden and more importantly gundogan. That could be one reason to bring gundogan back. So I think haaland coming off soon against brentford is a real possibility. Arsenal also has his number. Newcastle to me is the worry because pep's teams take so many shots in their matches, but howe has found a way to only lose 1-0 now.

I just think watkins for 3 games, 2 for isak then get rid for haaland and pedro respectively could work out.

My plan for gameweek 6 is to downgrade salah to saka, bring in havertz for isak keep watkins for 1 week then bring Haaland for gw7 against fulham. If I had pedro and haaland to start I could have pedro not playing, haaland coming off early for a false 9. Then Haaland has arsenal then newcastle. What do you think?

I’m not sure if Haaland’s hat-tricks care about all that other stuff you wrote.

This was my plan at the start of the season (Without using my WC), but Haaland's form has put me off it now.

I need the transfers for other things, for example, I need to get Raya and Saka for GW6, then Mbeumo for GW7.

On a WC this might be ok, if you don't need to make those transfers I mentioned around GW6. But Watkins is a punt right now given his lack of form.

Is this all really worth it? I know it’s the trendy thing to do but the man’s just scored back to back hatricks, who would bet against him getting the record of 3 in a row?

I do agree that Gabriel & Saliba have his number, in 3 games last year he didn’t have a kick BUT you have to balance that out with the season before where he got double digits in both, could go either way.

It just feels like such a big bravado move & im not sure it’s worth it.

Its only one transfer though. I keep the money in the bank. Isak and watkins are going to score well at some point.

I get what you are saying. I mean haaland might be trying to go for 3 hattricks in a row, if he did that ballon d'or would be within reach after only 4 games. But then pep might sub him off to show him who is boss. Never really know.

If watkins and isak score, they will get bonus so that would 'cover' a haaland hattrick. Haha, its probably wrong but gonna do it anyway

Good luck, better to play it your way then be too scared to play freely.
