If other Man City players don’t start to share the goals and share the defenders attention a bit does it make it easier to defend against Haaland ?

Best CB duo in the league got absolutely mugged off by him, there's not really an 'easy' way to defend against him

I know it’s not as easy to just stop him but some of the ways he’s scored this season can be stopped if teams don’t try and play out from the back. Once everyone is behind the ball his threat drastically reduces . He’s hit a level where you have to think let’s make it harder for Haaland to score as I see no team wants to give him any special attention. Maybe Dan Burn

Basically playing a higher line against him and then also not marking him tightly even when city are out of possession is what I’d be telling a team facing him. Again he’s brilliant so not so easy to do but gifting him opportunities guarantees a hiding

Must be joking if you think teams don't try to neutralise Haaland, especially ones who just sit back. This is his third year in the league and he's on course to score 25 goals again - he's not some unknown quantity.

I absolutely am suggesting teams aren’t doing enough to stop him. Managers now are so bothered about their style of play and how they are perceived that they aren’t showing someone like Haaland enough respect. One of the reasons he scores a lot is he’s a world class/generational talent the another is teams don’t set up now to neutralise a big number 9 .

I’m not suggesting he isn’t brilliant as he is or suggesting it’s hard. But if week after week I see him scoring goals from a team being dispossessed playing out from the back I will retain my belief that managers aren’t showing him enough respect

This reads like something Roy Keane would say on Soccer Saturday after seeing a team give the ball away. City aren't a one-man team, they've got world class talent all over the park. Suggesting teams don't respect him enough is just bonkers.

I don’t see teams doing anything differently when they play against city . Maybe there is just no point but I would prefer to see that space between the keeper and the defenders reduce drastically when teams play city

You're clutching I'm afraid. He's a monster. You don't think teams have tried to come up with ways to stop him? This is his 3rd season in the league.

He scored a hat-trick last season against Marco Silva's Fulham.

When arsenal dropped deep and camped on their 18 yard box Haaland was neutralised so it can be done . Ok no one wants to watch that type of football but it is how to neutralise Haaland (to some extent.

I guess my wider point weaker side aren’t doing what they used to which was to frustrate and make it hard to score. They are replicating how Man City play with inferior players . Surely if you go like for like on tactics against a drastically better side you know what will happen. I am not sure what Roy Keane was on about with his league 2 comment. The fact he scores hattricks if you try and play pretty football at the back tells you everything , he sensational

The fact that Sean Dyche's prime Burnley got destroyed on the regular by Pep Guardiola's City really doesn't support your argument...

If anyone knows how to park the bus most effectively it would be him. If that was all that was required to stop Haaland and City they wouldn't be the best team in the world and Haaland wouldn't score so many goals.

It is actually quite arrogant of you to think that you know better and that the teams are making obvious tactically naive mistakes. I assure you at the big clubs they have analysts and people that work many hours to try and figure out how to stop Haaland and City and it is not as simple as park the bus and he will be neutralized.

Carmzy I’m not trying to be arrogant. It’s an opinion I have based on what I see. I also realise as a fan it has zero weight which is why I’m on this sort of site discussing it). You can pick individual games like Burnley of course and I accept what you say and it does add weight to what you are saying. However I still stand by my own opinion. Technically unless you’ve played or managed at the top level any opinion is arrogant on here. You obviously understand how pep does it and the intricate details to know how he makes it impossible to stop Haaland. Of course you probably know as little or as much as me. Keep the word arrogant away from any comments , it’s a forum for fantasy football fans . Not cutting edge analysis

You're right - I don't know the details behind what makes Pep's tactics and Haaland so good. If I did, I'd apply to work for a PL club as an analyst.

It's just the way you phrased your opinion as if it was obvious that you just deny space between the lines and park the bus and he could be stopped. It's really not that simple.

Fair enough , I accept what you are saying in that I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes and of course Haaland will be thought about heavily. To reiterate I think he’s a brilliant footballer. If teams can’t slow his scoring from 2 a game then we are watching the best goalscorer of all time and maybe he is that .

I’m not saying it will be successful as Man City are so good but the other options of playing I believe help Haaland and city more. I don’t see what’s wrong with this opinion

Madrid / Arsenal will tell me what? Madrid 'stopped' Haaland and ended up conceding to 4 other players over the 2 legs. Arsenal literally just let Haaland score in the first 5 minutes and conceded an equaliser to Stones.

Ok x.jim.x you won’t or can’t accept on any level what I’m saying. I can accept your view point and largely agree. Arsenal shut out Man City until late on with 10 men playing very deep for an entire half.Real Madrid is a great example to prove my point. They largely sat in and let Man City have the ball and they drew with them over two legs (with in many people’s eyes an inferior team) . You see you choose to miss a very important details every time with what I’m saying . I’m not saying playing deep equals stopping Haaland or city . You have to dig deeper to understand what I’m saying. It means you have a better chance of stopping them score more. Real Madrid therefore in their performance against city proves my point. Please don’t get upset. I’m not saying it’s easier to stop Haaland that’s the bit you fail to understand. You just want to give me a lesson which you aren’t. I know he’s good as I keep saying it. Off something better please

They drew with them because they scored 4 goals in reply to City's 4 (none of which were scored by Haaland) - they sat in and scored from individual brilliance, something which teams like Southampton aren't going to be able to replicate.

Arsenal conceded loads of chances when they sat back and didn't even muster up a shot in the second half. Again, they have amazing personnel and it took a brilliant performance by a class keeper to salvage a point.

Sounds like your tactical 'analysis' doesn't really go beyond "well, just do that" forgetting that your main examples involve world class players and ignoring mine and Camzy's examples of Luton, Burnley, etc.

You make a good point about Madrid having individual players who can score in any game. I agree Southampton for example don’t possess those players. My conclusion from that is Real Madrid are better than Southampton. In reality Southampton have very little chance of stoping city scoring but considering dropping deeper to do so and somehow get some luck and a brilliant keeper perfomance has some merit. Stop interpreting that as if Southampton drop deep they will get a draw.

No, you’ll see one person (me) acknowledge two people’s points and two people I would say refuse to accept on any level my point. If there is someone who isn’t capable of considering wider thoughts on how maybe it’s possible to reduce haalands chance of scoring it’s you.

If arsenal has opened up to try and score another I firmly believe (obviously so did arteta ) they would have been picked off. Are you more knowledgeable than arteta ? You see it’s also a stupid argument.

If you asked Pep what is the way most likely to stop his side , if he was being honest he wouldn’t say to play out from the back and have a high line. He’d say stick 11 men behind the ball and hope and pray . Even though that still isn’t likely to work. But is has done before and will do again.

My final point is I’m more focused on stopping Haaland not necessarily city. In terms of fantasy football. I understand if you try and stop Haaland someone else will probably score . That wasn’t my point. No one else is chipping in that much at the moment at Man City . Therefore I asked the question are teams doing all they can to stop Haaland. Maybe they aren’t because other players will score. If that were the case then I’d try and stop Haaland (once again that isn’t easy and see if the other players start to chip in). Maybe teams would concede more against city doing this and therefore a worse tactic and for the final time maybe you just can’t stop him because he’s too good .

    Whatcha reckon?

    A) Save FT
    B) Jota -> Mbeumo
    C) Salah & Watkins -> B Johnson & Haaland(c)

    Hendo
    Trent, Gabriel, Porro
    Salah, Palmer(c), Saka, Jota, Rogers
    Watkins, Vardy

    Fabs, Johnson, Barco, Jebbison
    Bank 0.1m, 2FTs, all chips

    Thoughts? 2FT

    Raya
    TAA Gabriel Davis
    Saka Diaz Mbuemo McNeil Rogers
    Haaland Jackson

    Kepa Wood Faes Myko

    A) Save
    B) Get Palmer - Diaz, Jackson to Palmer, 4.5 fwd (And play Wood)

      B) for me as Palmer upside is there - Wood isn't a bad option this (or any) week either - on pens and CHE can't defend!

    My team

    Henderson (Fab)
    Gabriel Robbo Konate (Faes Nedelj)
    Saka Salah Rogers Mbeumo Semenyo
    DCL Haaland (4.5)

    0ft, .3itb

    G2g?

    0 in the bank.

    Flekken
    Gab TAA Robinson
    Salah mbueno ESR Saka Palmer
    Calvert Lewis Watkins

    Bench
    Ramsdale Dunk Johnson Ui+Jo

Thinking TAA and ESR out for -4 for vander berg and Diaz.

Alternatively I can bring in B Johnson or Kulu (abit more explosive) to have more CIB.

    Thoughts?

On a WildCard, 0.0 in the bank

    Raya 4.0
    Calafiori Lewis VanDeVen VandenBerg Tuanzebe
    Diaz Mbeumo Johnson Palmer Dibling
    Haaland Watkins Solanke

    Your thoughts on below transfers:

Palmer > Saka (Until we get more clarity on Chelsea ? Both of Palmer's hauls have been freakish results and Saka is great safe option with upside)

Watkins/Dibling > Havertz/Rogers (Although I feel Watkins is a potential perma pick as long as Aston Villa keep up the form irrespective of opposition but Rogers+Havertz are also guaranteed minutes and are great picks with fewer points potential)

Diaz > Stick or Twist (Liverpool cover, he seems like another potential perma pick, got him on the cheap and even if he plays 70 mins every game has a huge upside)

    Any other suggestions ?

Palmer to Saka is in reality costing 4 points with Arsenal fixtures turning too next week. Don't do it IMO.
Watkins move a little sideways but OK
Wait on Diaz. You have him so keep him if you hear he is playing from leaks in early fixture.

Palmer fixtures until GW12 arent really that great
Saka will still perform against difficult opponents with Merino fit & Odegaard expected to return GW8

What you say is true and to be honest, you are the first I have seen wanting to sell Palmer. I don't personally think the upside is that great this week. (Don't buy/Don't sell)

Sometimes I wonder about AI in Hub:
    Tells me:
Pedro to Wood (Net cost .7 mil)
Semenyo to Eze (Net cost 1.2 mil)
TAA to Gvardiol (Net save 1.1 mil)
I don't need Pedro this week and Wood playing deeper.
I would prefer Semenyo to Eze any day of the week until next week maybe.
Sell TAA to Gvardiol when I have Lewis restricts moves for Citeh mids.
    Non-sensical. Do you agree

      Have to agree.
If you have a good bench for Pedro and dont care about price drops, no move needed.
TAA good chance of a CS and Semenyo has more potential this week over Eze
