The first double Gameweek of the season may be over but already the community is readying itself for the next one. Our community writers take a look at how best to plan ahead and analyse the likely players to draft in. Meanwhile, there was an extra special guest on our live Scoutcast this week and we received an update on the health of a much-respected community veteran. Elsewhere, our latest members tables are dominated by differential options and we also catch up on the latest risers and fallers in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

While our Scoutcast guest is in prime position to win FPL, most of us can only dream of such lofty heights. Sticky Mockwell has been busy constructing some eye catching graphs to reveal just how large a mountain Fantasy managers like myself, Triggerlips, Ruth_NZ and Mark have to climb to win the competition.

For those of us with mini-league glory and overall rank to still play for Andy85wsm urges investment in the Chelsea backline, particularly with the West London side’s double Gameweek 34 looming.

Meanwhile Patch’s latest research suggests that attacking players in relegation-embattled sides are a potentially lucrative source of points for the run-in.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Although we are awaiting confirmation of fixture rescheduling, Gameweek 34 could be set to offer a bumper round of double fixtures and also be preceded with a set of blank fixtures to test Fantasy management skills to their limit.

Andy85wsm took a look at how best to navigate Gameweeks 33 and 34 with just one hit. While we also took a look at the most favourable fixtures during those weeks to see how easy it is to assemble the best squad.

With David Silva once again outscoring Sergio Aguero last time out, is it time to cash in on the Argentine’s hefty price tag and invest elsewhere, asked Ryan. With so many other strikers with potential double Gameweeks many are certainly considering such a move.

Another name on many double Gameweek squad lists is Branislav Ivanovic, with Chelsea one of two teams that definitely will have two matches in Gameweek 34. But, Sess! asks, is he worth the outlay? After reading Andy85wsm’s community article on Chelsea defenders, many are inclined to think he is.

Granville was absent from our live Scoutcast this week, but his replacement, the overall leader of FPL Simon March (aka Dufflinks), was more than able to prove his Fantasy management credentials. Among those to pose questions to Simon was Silver Surfer, who was intrigued that he had reached the summit without taking a single hit all season. Another key factor in Simon’s ascent has been avoiding too many differentials and sticking with sensible captain choices. As Beardedoldman’s discussion on tactics showed, this is advice many wish they’d taken over the last few months. Simon also revealed that he rarely gets to watch live matches, something the parents among us sympathised with in Greenwindmill‘s discussion on our viewing habits.

Finally, Beric popped by with an update on community veteran Doosra, who has been absent from the site through illness for a number of weeks. His family say they are “very moved” by your messages of support and while Doosra’s condition remains serious, they are hopeful he will soon be on the road to recovery.

The Members’ Tables

Jonesb1987 was busy constructing a raft of “moneyball” tables for those looking for the ultimate differential. These look at bargain attacking midfielders, holding midfielders and goalkeepers.

Goalscoring defenders can also offer a cheap route to points. My table on Attacking Defenders has a universal filter to allow Members to assess the best options home, away and more recently.

If you’re a member and have yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Aaron Thorburn continues at the summit of the Top 10,000 Any Season League and has rocketed up to eighth in the overall FPL standings. Meanwhile, Nick Edge’s rise from 45,896 to 5,762 since Gameweek 20 puts him at the top of the FFS January Wildcard League. Both these leagues are organised by Red Lightning.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Woy of the Wovers hit the top score in Gameweek 28 with 100. There are now 203 teams left, with 57 eliminated in Gameweek 28 after the safety score was set at 79.

Those still in contention to win LAWR’s FA Cup of Tea include Sporting, Christina and Mull.

My opinion on the captain choices (strikers):

    Aguero:

Pros: 3 goals, 3 assists in the last 5. Unlucky against Liverpool.

Cons: Won't advance your rank much if you captain him. Midweek game. Could get subbed off if City are controlling the game. Away fixture.

    Giroud:

Pros: 4 goals and 2 assists in the last 5 where he's played over 60 minutes in the league. Arsenal historically are strong against WHU at home. Differential captain.

Cons: Not the most explosive player. Arsenal are very unpredictable with their attack.

    Kane:

Pros: 6 goals, 1 assist in the last 5. Unlucky against Swansea. Won't be highly captained.
Cons: De Gea for Utd is inform. LvG will likely setup to play a defensive game after the Arsenal mishap.

    Costa:

Pros: Differential. Main goalscorer for Chelsea. Generally consistent this season.
Cons: Poor form in general. 4 goals and 1 assist in the last 5 league games however. Against a defensive Southampton.

Overall I'd captain Kane if you're looking to beat a ML rival or make a significant leap in the standings. Otherwise play it safe with Aguero if you're generally happy with your rank or ML position. If Aguero blanks not many will overtake you. If he explodes and you don't captain him you're in trouble.

Note: Not talking about Sturridge or Austin because they lack the form.

      Good post, thanks. How about:

      Sanchez:

Pros: Played his first full 90 last match after nearly two months and scored a goal. Looked more like his old self. Explosive-- 6 double-digit returns earlier in season. Arsenal should wallop WH. Not highly captained.

Cons: Hasn't yet shown a return to form after his injury. Arsenal's points could as well come from Giroud, Ozil, Caz, etc.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 29

Work is killing me off, honestly! Missing gameweeks WILL be updated by the end of this weekend without fail. Guaranteed. Expect the first tomorrow evening.

    GW26 results - http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/9851166

    ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

Gameweek winners will also be awarded a spot in the Community Roundup article.

    ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

    GK
    DEF DEF DEF
    MID MID MID MID
    FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Saturday 13th March, 11.30am.

    ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

    1st place: 3 points
    2nd place: 2 points
    3rd place 1 point

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. Essentially, if you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 3 scoring positions or not.

Welcome to the game, and good luck.

The spreadsheet used to calculate the scores and hold the rankings etc will be made publicly available at the following link:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyuz31n7ppeccuu/Scout%20Picks%20Challenge.xlsm?dl=0

Also note: Up-to-date results will be posted at the end of a matchday when bonus points have been confirmed and added by FPL HQ. I may not be able to update results immediately due to work commitments, so please bear with me.

I need to work on my reading comprehension--freeing up money means you have about Naughton money to spend, so Naugton.

Aguero is the safe option while Sanchez is likely to be a differential this week. Guess it depends whether you fancy attacking or defending your OR...

This is the whatever amount of something question. I am really looking for some reason to go Sanchez. Obviously nice to go against the grain, but also WHAM defence creaking, Man City away, Arsenal very attacking, lots of reasons. But if Aguero comes up big you get crushed.

      1. BIG TONES

        Well put. Here's my thinking.

For Sanchez - West Ham defence creaking as you said + Arsenal often beat up on the rubbish teams (See Aston Villa). Kun is likely to be subbed early as well.

For Aguero - Always explosive and playing a team who have allowed the most shots in the box at home this season. Also a defensive move in regard to OR

Think I've talked myself into Aguero (c)

It's that last bit--defensive OR move--that has me on him still.

    Fairly happy with my team:

    Foster
    PVA Bellerin Kompany
    Haz Caz Sanchez Eriksen
    Defoe Kun Kane

    Krul Zouma Bertie JWP

1.7 ITB. I have 2 FTs though and considering:

    a) PVA -> Schlupp
    b) JWP -> Cork
    c) Defoe -> Murray

Uninspiring but could set me up weel
