Versus – Dimitar Berbatov & Steven Fletcher

Signed in the transfer window, both Steven Fletcher and Dimitar Berbatov have wasted little time in acclimatising at their new clubs, turning the heads of Fantasy managers.

Placed snugly in the mid-price bracket, they both look to offer strong solutions to the third striker slot in our squads with other places reserved for expensive heavy-hitters. In that scenario, many Fantasy managers have been forced to choose from these two players – both take form, decent fixtures and almost identical price tags into the coming months.

In this latest article for our Members, we look beyond the goals and points notched so far, exploring the numbers behind their performances in an attempt to offer a solution to this particular selection dilemma.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    About to make the
Graham to Ba transfer.. any reason not to? other options are Kagawa to Hazard or Hangeland to Baines, but with the talk of hazard being rested on here and Baines playing away from home Ba seems the best transfer

Morning chaps - would really appreciate any thoughts / suggestions on this WC team..

    Foster - Jaask
    Baines - Saylor - Rafael - Gorkss - Hughes
    Hazard - Gervinho - Pienaar - Dyer - Yaya
Aguero (going with the theory of cahing in on Tevez now) - Ba - Poldi

    0.6m in the bank

Id start with Tevez and have the money handy for bringing in Aguero. With a WC team, you should have the spare transfer barring injuries for next week/the week after and id rather be slightly late on Aguero, then watch him only get a few minutes this week as id expect Tevez to start.

I don't fancy Hangelaand this week so I'd swap him with Zab, other than that it's looking good and I wouldn't recommend the hit. Graham is frustrating but I think he's the sort of pick that only pays off if you're patient.

If I change from Haz that is where it will be. Just not keen on away captains.

I don't see any huge scores this week anyway. With more CL and Europa to come and more cup games on the horizon.

Hazard the safest choice imo, good home form, underlying stats and safety in numbers.

RVP is always a consideration and has a great upside, but the nature of the game makes him a risky choice.

          Hazard to pienaar tomorrow evening,
          Graham to Berba both free

Maybe Maloney to Oscar if he gets gametime. he certainly looked the business the other day.
I'm considering something v. similar, but don't want to lose Yaya just as it looks like he may be nailing on that more advanced role for whole games.

I know some will consider it bonkers. But I've seen far worse ideas on here.

You are taking a hit to put in 2 away players for 2 home players? Including a Fulham player who are just toothless on the road. And taking out a rampant Yaya. This is probably the most absurd transfer suggestion I have seen. And I have seen plenty.

Si, your comments are appreciated because of your previous form over the years, but there is method to the madness. City have a tricky fixture, and I see Yayas role becoming more defensive over the next weeks with Agueros return. In pre season when Mancini played 3-5-2 (when he had both Aguero and Tevez Available) Yaya played the holding midfield role.
I also think Piennars form is incredible. He had 2 assists against Newcastle, but realistically it should have been 4. The 2 goals disallowed in that game (perfectly good goals) were also assisted by him, so in actualy fact 4 assists against Newcastle

First disallowed goal was assisted by Fellaini, but agree his form is good. Not urgent to get him in this week though.

Disagree on Yaya's role. The fact they are playing a tougher team with likely mean Javi and Barry holding with Yaya roaming forward. Nasri injury makes this even more likely. And beside, he is the classic big game player. Yaya was playing the holding role in pre-season whilst Barry was injured and no Javi.

No WC but two free transfers (keeping this weeks) and feel obliged to bring the great Berbs in before being priced out of the Market. Projections for Gibbs are poor. If he can keep cleanies his potential is significantly reduced

Hazard is the safe choice this week, safety in numbers and his stats so far (chances creation and home stats). Tevez is not the worst choice in the world and has being involved in allot of Man Cities goals, and you'd expect some goals.

But saying that, the fixture has ended 1-0 to Man City a few times now iirc and so id probably say Hazard is the better pick overall.

RVP is always an option, great upside but the fixture is a tricky one to predict

What do people make of bringing in Ba? Looks so tempting but there is so much discussion about him being unhappy and despite scoring he didnt actually start last week. It also appears that Pardew can never quite get the formation right for Ben Arfa unless part of a front 3 and that means Ba back on the left, where he struggles. I couldn't quite work out how they were set-up 2nd half v Everton but it clearly worked, as Ben Arfa also seemed to have a roaming role and was quite effective.

Papa Cisse (C) would be my perfect differential this week if I could raise funds.

Don't make me doubt myself Si!

I chickened out on getting Berba and turned my back on all the money to be made. I opted for Ba/kaca in for Petric/Jarvis(LOL) instead. I'm taking a two week punt, even though I am aware this is not the correct way to play the game.

I'm hoping he is a major differential in my ML, and that he outscores the other strikers my rivals own.

If it goes pear shape I'm very tempted to do Ba-->Podolski as Ars cover instead of Santi

We know he can score goals and Cisse is yet to hit form. My problem with Ba is not so much in his Newcastle situation, as he clearly can deliver even as a sub - it is more the fact that Fletcher, Graham, Berbatov, Defoe and Lambert are all in the same price bracket but have lone striker roles with decent supply. I went for HBA for attacking Newcastle cover for that reason. His brace made me tempted but right now I am leaning towards Berba.
I only watched EVE- NEW but Cisse was not convincing enough for me, but he would make a great differential indeed.

It's all about picking those big players at the right time to make a difference with so many generic band-wagons though. We know Cisse will explode anytime soon and this weekend is perfect for him. Especially, with so few obvious captain choices amongst the usual big guns.

Being a toon fan id love to but as you highlighted, its hard to know on formation. My thoughts on the weekend is Hughton likes his 4-4-2, I can see Pards doing his 4-3-2-1 formation with Ba on the left so he can outnumber their central midfield

If Cisse showed even a glimmer of form then it's definitely worth considering. Though there's every chance he'll score well soon, it would be too much of a punt right now for me.

    Vorm (Federici)
    Ivanovic, Ridgewell, Demel (Hangeland, Tierney)
Hazard (VC), Bale (C), Michu, Maloney
    RVP, Tevez, Graham

Almost all my players play away next week, against the likes of Man United, Arsenal, Man City and Stoke.

And I’m stuck with dead weight like Federici and Tierney!

    Any ideas guys? Much thanks!

If you still have your transfer save it this week and have 2 for next week to sort it out

Hate? What hate? He just hasn't looked like a great FF prospect, with several better in the same price range.

Pratik.. have you made up your mind on whether to keep or ditch RVP??

    Is the WC complete yet?

      it is logical.

RvP > cheaper = 3m-6m extra cash to bring in 2x decent MIDs

and those 2x MIDS (+ RvP replacement) will probably score more than 2x budget MIDs + RvP.

Rarely see you write such replies.....There are very few mids who are performing in the top bracket. Caz, Hazard the only ones I'd say.

What I meant was it was not just the mids, it's also the defence which can be massively upgraded if you get rid of RVP, and Aguero becomes a possibility too.

Ditching RVP 100%.....If I'm wc'ing I might as well as go the distance....
