The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Boxing Day – Part Two

Gareth Bale blasts a hat-trick to confirm his returns to fitness and heavy-hitting fantasy status, while the Potters find a cutting edge to recover from an early setback and consign Liverpool to defeat. Here’s part two of the Boxing Day Stock Check…

On the Up

Gareth Bale
A devastating hat-trick took Bale to nine goals for the season and gives the Welshman six goals in his last six league appearances. Incredibly, Bale has scored just two goals and only one of his four assists at White Hart Lane, proving to be a deadly weapon on the road. With strong fixtures to come, Bale’s form will bring him huge investment with significant FPL price rises to follow.

Jermain Defoe
His opening strike for Spurs took the England man to ten for the season and keeps Defoe bubbling in the FPL rankings, some 11 points ahead of Wayne Rooney. Bale’s form and his popularity as a midfield acquisition will doubtless dent Defoe’s appeal but Defoe shouldn’t be dismissed lightly. He has started every league match since Gameweek 11 and has never gone more than three starts without scoring.

The Spurs Defence
Their strong run continues: Andre Villas-Boas’ rearguard have now kept four clean sheets in the last five after earning their third consecutive shut-out this evening. With their fixtures remaining strong (sun RDG qpr), there’s no reason to suggest that this kind of form won’t continue in the short-term at least, with Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris justifying their current rankings in our Watchlist.

Steven Gerrard
The converted spot-kick at the Britannia gave Gerrard a third goal in three league starts and means that he’s now delivered returns in five of his last six outings. As tonight’s display demonstrated, however, consistency remains an issue in the Liverpool camp.

Jon Walters
One of the most unfashionable Fantasy assets around, Walters demonstrated what he is capable of by delivering a brace to notch his biggest returns of the season. With five goals and three assists so far, Walters has delivered strong value for his 6.4 price tag and, if Michael Kightly retains the right-wing role shifting Walters up in support of the lone striker, he could yet go on providing profit.

Kenwyne Jones
With strong and reliable budget options thin on the ground up front, Jones has quietly established a starting role in Tony Pulis’ side at the expense of Peter Crouch and is taking his opportunity. While the Potters attack is far from potent, Jones looks an effective blunt instrument and has provided two goals in three games, with an assist tonight – a good return on a 5.0 FPL price tag.

Going Down

Ryan Shawcross & Geoff Cameron
Both were teetering on the tightrope and both toppled off with bookings in the victory over Liverpool. The Stoke defensive stalwarts, with over 40% FPL ownership between them, will now miss the home league clash with Southampton this coming weekend.

The Villa Defence
Having conceded just two goals in five matches between Gameweeks 12-17, Paul Lambert’s back four have simply capitulated in the last two matches, shipping 12 goals to Chelsea and Spurs. With five conceded to City and three to United, it’s becoming clear that Villa are all too easily disposed of by the bigger sides. While fixtures are obliging in the coming weeks, confidence in the Villa rearguard has been shattered.

Steven Caulker
Caulker has, on occasions, looked a strong option within the Spurs back four, having enjoyed a run of starts from Gameweek 6-11. Since then, however, he has been subject to heavy rotation with the likes of Michael Dawson, William Gallas and Jan Vertonghen all vying for the centre-back roles. Caulker was benched again today and with Benoit Assou-Ekotto close to a return at left-back, it appears the Vertonghen/Gallas partnership could emerge as the established first choice option.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is this a decent plan for my next 3 transfers?

    A: Suarez->Berbatov
    B: YaYa->Felliani
    C: Sterling->Corzola/Mata

Problem is I have already used my FT this GW, so to do all 3 may need to take 1 or 2 hits. Can do A and B independantly, but C will have to have cash from A.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will do B for next GW and not take hits.

To do C I would need a couple of million cash (hence trying to get some from Suarez), but I will leave it for now.

    Morning All,

Obviously very happy with my Captaincy choice for a change, also qualified for a CL spot in UEFA after two wins in a row to come from nowhere...

Only issues now are Rooney, Michu, Shorey, Ridgewell, Sterling and Caulker and what to do with them.

will keep Michu as had him since GW1..
Shorey can stink up my bench
will pray Caulker is rotating game by game with Gallas and if he's not
hope Ridgewell can get 2 points against UTD.
Sterling should hopefully start the next game.

Therefore am contemplating living with the mess and just shifting out Rooney to a 9.7 million forward. leaving enough funds to upgrade Sterling to Walcott next week..

thinking right or shall I take a hit and sort the mess out a little.

I think BR will go back to 3-5-2 (5-3-2) for a few games to tighten up the def.
the goals against Villa and Stoke were just far too sloppy.

    Jafa

    My team is :

    Jask, Ming
Cameron (susp), Ridg, Shorey (dropped), Enrique, Demel ( on 75% playing)
    Walcott, Snod, Piennar, Sess, Mata
    Roon (inj), Suarez , Fletcher
1 FT and 4.4 in the bank

Should i wait till GW 21 to get Bale
Should i only do Roon - RVP this GW
Dont want to lose Sess and Fletcher as both played pretty well.
Or take a hit to fix my defence

Damn Rooney captaincy did fail and will lose in cup too

      Hey Cylus11,

I defo sort Rooney (3 weeks = 5GW's) and most obvious replacement is RVP.
Then I would probably do Piennar or Snod to Bale for a hit.
Bale will increase 0.2m more in two days (already gone up 0.1m)

Your defence might jusst be okay Enrique - Ridgewell - Demel (DGW coming up)

Cant do Snod or Piennar to Bale.

Sess to Bale wont happen as i have -0.1 short.

        Any other opinion

        Rooney - RVP
        Fletcher - Berb
        Snod - Pinnar - Bale

8 pt hit or just do Rooney to RVP and expect Bale to be quiet against Sund away and take Bale in GW 21 (WC)

Yeah do Rooney to RVP for sure, I'd suggest.

If you can take the price increase on Bale, the no big worry. Getting him for Reading (as long as no fifth yellow) is important.

            Should i do

Rooney + Fletcher - RVP + Berba for 4 pt hit

Fulham have tasty fixtures or keep him for GW 21 WC

I don't think so. Even though I have Berba, I'm not that exited about having him. Anything from him is a bonus atm.

          Yeah very tough decision.

Walcott's price is so tempting yet there's so much uncertainty with him starting and transfer rumours. Cazorla is nailed on but for more...

Sell Ivanovic or Enrique to help fund Bale purchase.

Reckon it's gotta be Enrique - qpr, SUN, man, NOR, ars, mci?

Davies look like a decent enough replacement?

You fairly okay with Davies - any attacking threat?

I should be getting anywhere between 11-13 BPs tomorrow...

    Bale 3
    RVP 0-2
    Berbatov 2-3 (4-6)
    Cuellar 2

I'll take that, thank you very much...

I've got the same bunch of players but with the C on RVP so I'm hoping for 10 (Bale 3, RVP 2, Berbatov 3, Cuellar 2)

In the next two GWs, who would score better in which order?

    A) Torres + Bale
    B) Aguero + Mata

Trying to find a replacement for Rooney. I have RVP/Suarez/Bale and rival has RVP/Aguero/Mata.
Any striker recommendations for the next two?

Depends, if you think Tottenham's defence is good enough to warrant a transfer, then go for it.

Personally I would stick with Cameron since it's only a one match ban. He has some pretty good fixtures coming up too. If you have someone who rotates with him such as a West Ham defender, you can have this from GW23 - 28:

          QPR
          WGN
          SWA
          RDG
          TOT
          WHU
