Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Pottered

Tony Pulis will need to reshuffle his defensive options after two of Stoke’s regular back-four fell foul of the referee’s wrath against Liverpool in Boxing Day. Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron will now sit out the Potters’ home clash against Southampton after accruing their fifth cautions of the campaign in Wednesday’s 3-1 win:

The duo are two of four players who are set to serve an automatic one-match ban in Gameweek 20. Villa’s Fabian Delph and Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson are also sidelined against Wigan and Arsenal respectively.

While those four are unavailable, a quartet of new protagonists appeared on the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their fourth cautions of the campaign in midweek. Yaya Toure, Bradley Johnson, Jean Beausejour and Maynor Figueroa will all need to be on their best behaviour this upcoming weekend, as will 27 other players, including the likes of Robin Van Persie, Michu, Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Nolan; once Gameweek 20 is out the way, though, the limit is then extended to 10 yellows. So far, a quartet on players lead the race for that dubious honour – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel all have seven bookings apiece.

Both Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole are available this weekend, however. The FA have overturned three-match bans handed out to the pair in West Ham’s Gameweek 18 home clash with Everton – good news for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Cole as a possible double Gameweek punt; the 4.9 priced forward has produced two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games since deputising for the injured Andy Carroll.

Elsewhere, Cheick Tiote returns for Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal after sitting out their 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final fixture of his three-match ban as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

yes of course...but is berba really the real deal this week?
because im trailing my mini league by just ONE point .really worried i will make the wrong decision..on top of that i have to -4 for the two transfers...
so meaning i will start with -5

the league ends this week..so its the final round in my league..before it resets
            whts up opinion mate?

            berba is the best option?
i have 7.2 mil to spare after getting in walcott

Well everyone was doubling up RVP/Rooney when he was fit. Depends if you think Welbeck's likely to make a showing.

          Otherwise: Berba/Benteke?

Not planning to stick myself, want Walcott + Berba(prob), so no.

Yeah I think Ian wright was the same. And as a southampton fan I'll never forget le tissier.

With the influence of agents today a player like le tissier wouldve moved to a huge club, annoyed the manager and rotted on their bench.

Evening DZ.....miss some great discussions tonight!

Noticed that there is a lot of chatter regarding the prospects of Chicarito! Does anyone think that given the fact that Rooney is injured, coupled with the fact that Kagawa is close to returning that Kagawa could play that "In-the-hole" position creatively behind RVP and Chicarito could be left on the bench!

Kagawa will need a few run-outs from the bench first so cannot see him being a threat until after Wigan by which point Hernandez will become a huge risk anyway. Hernandez is a great punt for the next 2 but not beyond (unless injuries dictate he still starts)

Azpi looks a great player and deserves to stay at RB on the back of his performances but it's hard to say he will keep his place when Terry gets back. Terry is captain so then you have Cahill, Ivanovic and Luiz fighting for the other CB place. So Ivanovic might be put back at RB so Cahill and Terry can play most games. It's hard to tell really. You might get a few games out of Azpi if you bought him now but he will likely be rotated later.

No problem, if there were a few injuries to other guys I'd be all over Azpi but as I said there's no guarantees. I actually think Ivanovic is better at CB and Azpi is way more a natural RB so I think they should leave it. In fact ideally I'd love if Terry fecked off as Cahill and Ivanovic make a good pairing. And Luiz is great in midfield 🙂

Remember Mikel is going to AFCON too, so more chance of Luiz staying DM. I took a punt on Azpi last week (thanks for the 7 pointer Azpi) because if it doesn't work, you have Jan WC to sort it out. Think you need playing sub defenders in your team though, to cover the threat of rotation

TW. Just popped out for lunch. I don't want to persuade anyone to get Marveaux again. Pardiola doesn't fancy him and he MIGHT leave in the window, so I can't guarantee he will play. But if somebody is looking to downgrade a mid, to allow them to fit more big hitters in, and won't rely on the mid they bring in to play (think ferguson), then he could be a great option. If it doesn't work out, all you will have missed out on is a couple of 1s and 2s from puncheon (with bad fixtures), but will still have an extra 0.6m in you pocket. The potential upside is huge. We have nice fixtures after this one too.

considering all the injuries to your team i think you make a very valid point.. I just don't understand why Pardew doesn't rate him.. maybe it is his work rate..

It must be either his work rate. Or something personal. But any issues must surely be put to one side now. Right? He seemed to be back defending for some of the game against man utd. So that is a good sign. I still think he should be in the starting 11, when everyone is fit.

no worries mate. I see your point and might be swayed by it. but just remember if it doesn't work you you're never allowed to mention his name again 😉

+1 support your appraisal towards Marveaux.

He is under my shopping radar after the Wigan game. He is such a talent with a great left foot. Just sad that he can't nail down a regular place even with so many injuries in Newcastle.

He may have the coming 2 to 3 games as starter to prove his ability, hope he can perform, otherwise, will be easily replaced by 1 or 2 other recovered players, then he will become an impact sub again.

Fantasy-wise, he will still be the best 5th mid option atm, if u are fielding other mid/forward positions as "must-start". Otherwise, Puncheon is a rotational player given the guarantee of his start with good attacking potential.

I put Benteke in last week and seriously considering selling him already for Hernandez. I can see Wigan totally bossing Villa in possession and restricting service to him. The Spurs game was embarrassing. Think Spurs had 15 corners in the first half alone. Villa have nobody to win the ball and only Ireland who can keep it.

SantiUnreal made an interest comment regarding Vert. At 6.3 he's not cheap but is definitely nailed on, has goal threat and TOT seem to have become consistent at the back. I reckon he could be a good shout. I lik Enrique also but those 20 mins after LIV's 1st goal were like a house on fire for the defense.

Yeah Liverpool are actually quite weak defensively and vulnerable when their gameplan doesn't work. Their defence is sort of their possession style...when teams attack them properly though they crumble. Six goals conceded versus Villa and Stoke, easily two of the worst attacking sides in the league!

I actually think we'll be more likely to get CSs against the better attacking sides. When playing the minnows our players seem to think they're playing against a League Two team so just do what they want, with no thoughts whatsoever. The midfield just wanders up the field leaving the defenders exposed to the counter. Our players need more discipline defensively as we're not good enough in attack to do this.

Yeah, it's indiscipline for sure. There's an insecurity about what the team is meant to be doing...Some of the players don't seem all that comfortable with the possession style especially the defenders...it feels forced the way they pass the ball around at the back and often the team looks like it doesn't gel properly. And there ends up being unnecessary errors and slackness.

    * Liverpool have taken more shots than any other PL club this season with 363, but only 99 have been on target. For comparison, Chelsea have had 100 shots on target from 275 attempts.
    * Liverpool have the same points total (25 from 19 games) as two seasons ago under Roy Hodgson.
    * The Reds have still not beaten a team currently in the top half of the Premier League

    😯

(sorry for giving Liverpool a hard time...I need to give it a break!)

        Sorry Berbilly 🙁

Here's one to cheer you up...

        * Of Roberto Mancini's 21 PL defeats, 14% of them have been at the hands of Sunderland.

looks good but as you have 2FT maybe just do a boring transfer McCartney to ?
Ensures you have 11 in case Hughes is out. no news on McCartney return either, so I'd like a decent nailed on defender, esp with Cameron having tough fixtures coming.

I also prefer Bale (sun RDG qpr) to Mata (eve QPR stk)

        Cheers. How about a possible Puncheon/Suarez → Bale/Ruiz-or-Cole?

could be a genius move. Cole has decent fixtures and double but Suarez could also score well next 2 weeks. You'll have a benching headache but great cover if someone is injured (Michu) or suspended.
An interesting point someone made yesterday was to try to make sure you have 2 FT for the break between GW 21 and 22 because lots can change in that period. So, lots of things to consider

Should i play Jasky or Ming. I am leaning towards to Ming due to recent form and saves.

But Jask against Reading could be a good too

To Michu. Sorry, I was at lunch. I expect us to line up as below

    Krul
    Simpson Perch Colo Santon
    Tiote Bigi
    Marveaux
    Cisse Ba Obertan

After that we just have kids, (and big shola). I expect an open game. And lots of goals for both sides! I will probably be captaining santi, and Mrs China Mag will captain Walcott. But that is partly to try to lessen the disappointment if we lose!

thanks. I have very few decent captain choices so prob stick with Santi. I can see Arsenal getting more joy down the flanks than centre though, with Cisse and Obertan unlikely to track back. Maybe good points for Ars full backs and Podolski/Ox/Walcott

    HELP!!!
    This is my team:

    Jaask (Bunn)
    Gallas Gibbs Nastasic (Demel, Gorkss)
    Michu, Bale, Silva, Mata (Sterling)
    Defoe, Ba, Tevez

I have 2.5 points in the bank and I want to bring in Walcott or Gerrard for Sterling while losing one of my forwards for Anichebe. Thoughts?!?!
