Spot the Differential – Gameweek 36

Another frantic Friday comes to a close with our pre-weekend regular. This week’s trio of overlooked alternatives all have a double Gameweek on their hands and offer Fantasy managers options right across the price brackets as the market continues to escalate ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline.

Oscar

As the season comes to a close, Chelsea’s summer signing is finally starting to make his mark domestically. Oscar’s most impressive exploits had been kept mainly for the European stage, with Juan Mata and Eden Hazard racking up the goals and assists in the Premier League, but over the last few matches he has become increasingly influential.

The Brazilian has started three of the last four Gameweeks for Rafa Benitez’s side and has produced attacking points in each of those first XI appearances. An assist in the 2-1 home win over Sunderland was followed up by a goal at Anfield in the 2-2 draw in Gameweek 34 – last week, however, Oscar went one better, finding the net and earning the maximum bonus points in the Blues’ 2-0 home win over Swansea.

Afforded a run out as a second-half sub in last night’s Europa League win over FC Basel, he’s expected to return to Rafa Benitez’s first-team for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford. With the club’s hopes of a third place still in their own hands, Chelsea can ill-afford to take it easy and Oscar looks likely to get the nod for Wednesday’s home clash with Tottenham, too. Coming in at 7.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.8 in the Sky Sports game, he’s the cheapest of Benitez’s attacking midfield trio and with an ownership of less than 2% in the former game, remains firmly under the radar ahead of Chelsea’s double.

David Silva

With Yaya Toure and Scout Pick Samir Nasri earning most of the midfield investment at City this week, the little Spaniard is another player who seems to have fallen out of favour with Fantasy managers. While Toure and Nasri have acquired 51,000+ and 27,000+ new owners, Silva has found his way into 15,000 teams – the sixth most popular player for Roberto Mancini’s side ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

With a trip to Swansea and home clash against West Brom on his agenda, though, Silva certainly has the platform to produce as Mancini attempts to pick up the points that would guarantee a second place finish behind neighbours United. Granted, Mancini’s tinkering could ultimately prove a problem but we’ve reached the stage of the season now where many are prepared to risk it – with three sets of double figures in his last five at home, Silva has hinted at the form that racked up 184 FPL points in the previous campaign. Fully-fit after a recent hamstring problem, he comes in at 9.1 in FPL (9.0 in the Sky Sports game) and will be determined to end a bitterly disappointing season with a flourish.

Jordi Gomez

Having cut a peripheral figure for Wigan over much of the season, the Spaniard has finally nailed down a regular role over the last few matches. Gomez has now started the last six in central midfield for Roberto Martinez’s side and while he hasn’t quite hit the heights that produced a 20 point haul against Reading back in Gameweek 13, he’s looking key to his side’s chances of survival.

While Shaun Maloney and Arouna Kone have received the vast majority of Wigan investment this week, Gomez – with spot-kick duties in his locker – offers an alternative option ahead of a trip to West Brom and home showdown with Swansea. Five points from safety but with a game in hand, victory in these games looks essential for the Latics’ survival bid and with everything now on the line, there’s no more margin for error. Coming in at 5.2 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Gomez has an ownership of less than 1% in both games but may be worth a gamble for those willing to throw the dice.

    49 points above my rival.

Already brought in Hazard this week, who he does not have, but he got Nasri.

    Should I:

    A.) Play Benteke

    B.) Match his Lukaku for a -4

    Cheers!

Go for Kompany -- any attack moves for a hit run big risk of being sideways.

    Hey guys, how's it going?
Took a -4 hit for this team...but still worried about my weak Defense line

    Hart
    Luiz / Davies / Nastasic / (Wilson) / (Jenkinson)
    Mata / Walcott / Hazard / Bale (C) / (Nolan)
    Kone / Tevez / Lukaku

See, the problem is If Nastasic misses both the games, which is pretty likely, I will be playing with 10 players as I will be going with two defenders. So a switch from Nasty to Zabaleta viable or not ? remember it will cost me another (-4). Cheers

Don't worry about defense, there are much more important issues...

I don't know why you worry anyway, (luiz - great, nastasic - good, davies - good)

Mata - good, walcott - good, Hazard - good, Bale - great

Kone - great, teves - good, Lukaku - great

Your team is amazing, do not make anymore changes bitch.

p.s. hart - awesome. you got the full package

It would be conceivable that walcott could score more than michu considering how little he has scored the last forever. Saying that... If I was going to choose between them, I'd choose Michu mostly because everyone else has. If he does well I have to keep up. If you are chasing you might have to think outside the box. It's not a strange event if michu doesnt score after all. Possible substitutes - Yaya, Nasri, Maloney

We picked guys during that interminable international break in March, in the spirit of March Madness. The only bummer is the blanks in gw33 left alot of teams/players impossible to pick, while the doubles that week overloaded us with Everton and their 2 pt approach to FPL.

Bunn's worked out pretty handy for me, chipping in with Norwich's borefest home CS. Do wonder if home to Villa is going to work out over DDG home to Chelsea.

If he gets dropped for Ruddy DDG should sub in anyway.

If you had Ruddy I wouldn't mind but Bunn's form has dropped drastically lately though. His handling ain't too clean and his organisational skills have always been suspect at best. I'd just start the top class keeper and be done with it 😉

nope, way out of my range because of the moves I did. I love the idea of getting in a keeper that pays off a hit and gets more than the keeper you might have played...but really it's probably the difference between 2/3 points realistically isn't it with Begovic.

I just realized my backline has limited exposure to my attack: Hart v WBA and Luiz v TOT. Making me think Baines and Sagna are definitely ahead of Davies, and maybe even worth no more hits. The last gw was terrible rooting for 0-0 Ars Eve so I could get cleanies. This will be more fun.

Still stuck on what my best XI is

    - Need to bench 1 from R Martin, Sagna, O'Brien

    - Need to bench either RVP or Walcott. Rival is 16 points behind and has RVP, otherwise i'd definitely play Walcott. Now i'm not so sure 😐

Bench Martin and RVP. Expect Rooney to steal the light on Sunday.

    I need help badly guys!!

    My team is

    Howard Robles
    Nastasic Turner Sagna O'Briend Clyne
    Walcott Sissoko Fellaini Mata Michu
    Rooney Benteke Berbatov

    My main opponents team is

    Begovic Cerny
    Rafeal Davies Clyne Nastasic Gorks
    Bale Mata Snodgrass Yaya Sissoko
    Tevez RVP Benteke

He is four points ahead of me, i think he may have slipepd up as , so far, he has made no transfers and usually he would have by now! However his team is really good!

I have one free transfer but am willing to spend points to make points! Any tips on what i should do?

I think my first move should be Rooney out Aguero in?

IS it worth splashing out for Bale, Nasri, etc etc and taking a 12 point hit?

Can you get Bale in with less than a -12pt hit?

I think he is the main difference between your teams, who did you rival captain last week?

He captained Bale, and he will again. I feel if i get bale in, im just matching his team, not beating it?

But if i dont get him in, im in trouble!

Rooney is your key to getting the funds for Bale, not sure how much cash that leaves
