Scout Scribbles – Ramsey in Fitness Race

Aaron Ramsey limps out of Wales’ win over Andorra with an ankle problem. Gylfi Sigurdsson maintains his superb start to the season with a goal in Iceland’s win over Turkey, Man United’s injury situation continues to ease, while Hull’s pair of loan signings both find the net in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

INJURY SCARE FOR RAMSEY

Arsenal face a nervous wait to find out the extent of the injury picked up by Aaron Ramsey in last night’s 2-1 win for Wales against Andorra. The Gunners midfielder hobbled off in added time after sustaining a kick to the ankle, but Wales manager Chris Coleman was optimistic that the knock was only a minor one:

“He got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle. It was coming to the end of the game and it was pointless taking a risk with him. Hopefully he’ll be okay for Arsenal at the weekend but we’ll have to see what the next 24 to 48 hours hold.”

The Scout Says: Whilst Coleman’s words will offer a degree of encouragement for Ramsey’s owners, we only have to look to last year to see the Arsenal talisman’s propensity for picking up injuries. Should his absence for this Saturday’s showdown with Man City be confirmed, Arsene Wenger will be forced to shuffle the pack in midfield, and with Mikel Arteta now fit, the Gunners boss could deploy Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez as a four behind new signing Danny Welbeck. Nonetheless, bearing in mind Ramsey is the highest owned player in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) further news on the extent of his injury will be as eagerly awaited by the Fantasy world as by Wenger himself, with a potential spell on the sidelines sparking a mass exodus.

SIGURDSSON’S FINE FORM CONTINUES

The formidable form of Gylfi Sigurdsson shows no sign of abating, as the midfielder scored his side’s second goal in Iceland’s 3-0 triumph over Turkey.

The Scout Says: A price hike of 0.5 and a present ownership of over 36% highlights how far the Sigurdsson bandwagon has come in just three Gameweeks. That’s no surprise, however, with the Swansea man having tallied a goal and four assists thus far, making him the second top scoring player in FPL. After this weekend’s tough trip to Stamford Bridge, the Swans’ fixtures improve significantly (SOU, sun, NEW, sto, LEI) and, should Sigurdsson continue his current form, the Icelandic international could be nudging the 7.0 mark before we know it. Managers who feel they’ve already missed the boat may need a rethink.

SHAW AND RAFAEL ON COURSE FOR RETURN

Man United’s injury list is beginning to lighten, as reports yesterday confirmed that defenders Luke Shaw and Rafael have returned from hamstring and groin injuries respectively. Both players are now in contention to feature for United in this weekend’s clash with QPR at Old Trafford.

The Scout Says: Another match without a win on Saturday and Louis van Gaal may begin to run out of excuses. Shaw and Rafael join Ander Herrera in making their comebacks from injury this week, whilst the fresh faces of Marcus Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao are all also available for selection against QPR, ensuring that the United boss can have no complaints over availability this time round. Shaw could well come straight into Van Gaal’s starting XI at left-back regardless of whether the Dutchman continues with a 3-4-1-2 formation or converts to having four at the back, and will be looking to impress, having not yet featured competitively for his new club since a big-money switch from Southampton. Meanwhile, should United’s new intake of signings indeed result in a change to a traditional back four from here on in, Rafael looks likely to take over from Antonio Valencia at right back, and with a price tag of just 5.4, the Brazilian could be the cheapest route into United’s defence as the schedule (QPR, lei, WHM, EVE, wba) continues to smile favourably upon the Old Trafford outfit.

NEW BOYS NOTCH FOR HULL

Hull City’s deadline day signings Hatem Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez scored a goal apiece in a behind-closed-doors friendly against West Brom yesterday afternoon which finished 2-2.

The Scout Says: After completing their last-minute moves to the North East last week, both Ben Arfa and Ramirez will be eager to reignite their careers after less-than-prominent previous seasons and the two midfielders’ performances in yesterday’s encounter should see them instantly push for starting spots when Hull welcome West Ham on Monday night. Two points from their first three fixtures suggests that Steve Bruce’s side need an injection of creativity and flair, and whilst the pair of new signings have been branded ‘hit or miss’ in the past, either could inspire the Tigers to their first victory of the season against the Hammers. Ramirez, at 5.5, is the cheaper of the two, and may be handed the role in behind the two strikers as well as a share of set piece duties, making the Uruguayan one to monitor over the coming weeks.

LESCOTT AND GAMBOA STEP UP FITNESS

Both Joleon Lescott and Cristian Gamboa were handed starts for West Brom in yesterday’s behind-closed-doors match. The former played the full 90 minutes, whilst Gamboa was withdrawn with ten minutes left on the clock, and both are now in with a chance of making their full debuts for the Baggies in Saturday’s clash with Everton.

The Scout Says: With Lescott and Gamboa now back in the frame for Alan Irvine’s side, the pitch time of Andre Wisdom, currently the Baggies’ most popular defensive asset, looks seriously under threat. The capture of Lescott in the summer could prove a crucial move by Irvine, with the former Man City centre-back sure to bring a much needed dose of experience and sturdiness to the Midland outfit’s often porous back-line. Gamboa, meanwhile, is available in FPL for just 4.5, and is likely to replace Wisdom at right-back once he’s back to full fitness, and his attacking style could make the Costa Rican a decent budget option for our defences. With Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man United to come in their next five, however, it would seem wise to hold back from any investment in the Baggies’ defence until their gruelling schedule takes a turn for the better in Gameweek 9.

    Hey guys,

Just saw a handy Guardian article there on predicted lineups for the most active teams in the transfer window for this weekend - http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/10/premier-league-new-signings-tactical?CMP=twt_gu

    The surprises for me were:

Hull - Jelavic dropped. Move to 4-4-2 meaning Chester dropped.
Man Utd - RVP not starting. Valencia ahead of Rafael (back from injury).
QPR - move back to 4-4-2. Dunne dropped. Hill at left back (!)

Mata dropped is not good, I held on to him instead of bringing in Sterling precisely for the QPR game.

I'm actually not surprised Mata will be dropped. No idea how you could fit him in as he doesn't seem to be defensive at all. Di Maria (and Rooney if RVP plays) could easily take his place.

One maybe but a double benching of 2 of your stars is highly unlikely. Agree with you I wouldnt be surprised if Mata lost out.

Palace looks off with no Ward or Zaha, can't see Doyle getting in there...

United could happen, but more likely to see Mata and Falcao on bench to come on as subs

Football - Spurs announce new stadium delay

Tottenham are to move out of White Hart Lane for a period of one season after announcing a delay in the construction of their new stadium.

A statement on tottenhamhotspur.com read: "We should like to advise supporters that it is highly unlikely we shall be able to open the new stadium at the start of the 2017/2018 season.

"The club has revised its construction programme in order to take the shortest possible time to construct.

"This now therefore involves the club moving away from the Lane during construction for a period of one season, to start at the beginning of a season in order to comply with Premier League rules.

"We are currently undertaking due diligence on alternative stadium options."

Repost. Need some help with this please.

Suppose I don't have any pressing transfers like taking out Rambo, I want to take out Kaboul for a FT. I am considering Naylor,Wilson or Toby (Soton's new boy). The reason is that Kaboul is not guaranteed to start anymore with Fazio bought. It could be argued that I should keep for this week because he has a relatively easy game but I am thinking long term. I'd want to use my FT on defense in a GW expected to deliver big points (Arsenal,Chelsea,Utd,Liverpool play at home, Tottenham with an easy game) and where many are taking hits.

    1) Does my argument seem valid?
    2) If I do take out Kaboul, should I get Naylor, Toby, Wilson or other? Clyne not an option after rooney dropped today. The extra 0.1 would ruin future plans to get Falcao for Rooney.

Have 1 FT and need some liverpool. Options are:
    A: Jovetic > Mario
B: Mata > Sterling (and play 4-4-2 if jov is out)

    Team is
    Guzan [Krul]
    Debuchy Caulker Clyne [oshea bartley]
    Ramsey fab mata siggy [ahmadi]
    Rooney Ade Jovetic

Id like both sterling and mario. But with sturridge out, Mario is the man to get the goals.

also Naismith is better than Welbeck for the next few weeks...

Lamela is still iffy imo. Welbeck not a proven goalscorer ( something similiar to Bojan, big name, people jump on a hype train that eventually crashes)

Id stick with who you av

Seriously considering dropping Ramsey for mirrallas instead of mata.

Would obviously get him or Walcott/Ozil back by GW8 but was all set for mata down to Mirallas and rivière up to balotelli. But now considering Rambo, just for a few games. With price changes as they are I shouldn't lose much (0.1 sell on guaranteed) and I would have 0.4 in the bank.

Or should I stick to the selling mata plan?

    Thoughts?

No idea. I was doing this as soon as the week started. Is there a better 7.0-7.8 mid?

Also he is going forward and fixtures start getting better (wba/CPL).

I like him as well, but I don't have Naismith or any other Everton, probably wouldn't double if I did.

I am desperate to find a way to bring in Sterling, midfield currently consits of:

    Siggy / Fab / Rambo / Erikson / Albrighton

    Whats your thoughts?

Rambo is probably my preferred option (injury / fixtures) and i will probably get wallcott / wellbeck after GW8

      not a popular idea

Which three to play this GW?

    A) Debuchy
    B) Clyne
    C) Caulker
    D ) PVA

My thoughts were benching Debuchy this week

I'd bench PVA thinking Tottenham will be far too good for Sunderland, and the others have goal threat.

Getting slaughtered in the leagues, have whipped out the WC - can someone give a critique? I'm pretty settled but unsure about the hamstring twins up top? Also the longevity behind Duff & Wisdom concerns me...

    Krul

    Clyne - Ivanovic - Moreno
    Fabregas - Tadic - Sterling - Sigurdsson
    Aguero - Welbeck - Costa

    (Elliot - Wisdom - Duff - Boyd)

    1. Reed_Rothchild

Just like mine except Naismith and Ramsey. Was thinking about Tadic and Wellbeck.

Yeah as much as I'd like to keep Naismith I think Ramsey isn't intended to have a similar season to last (wait for me to get burned this week...). Also hoping that after cashing in on Naismith's rise he's going to stop now please.

I like it, a lot of people here not liking Moreno as an option however I think he is a very good option and only 0.5 more than average 5.0 million defenders out there

Great front line as well, only concern would be tadic.

He is puntish. I'm hoping favourable fixtures will spring something. Was mooting going Schneiderlin and upgrading elsewhere.

        Damn Wildcards.

Bench is a bit weak for my liking.
Ivan is on fire but if you look in his history it never really lasts.
Clyne is a good option at 5m but I think id to a 4.5 to upgrade duff.
Welbeck isnt proven and i dont think that will change.
      Tadic is a good differential

      1. Dr Kenneth Noisewater
        • 10 Years

Definitely weak. I loathe it, but that's how I like it.

I've more chosen Ivan as the most steady option into the back line - still have rotation worries when CL really kicks in.

Clyne has some nice games coming, but can appreciate spreading the risk. PvA and Naylor here we come...

Hoping Welbeck has a stormer, not only for FF but for football as well. Sturridge Mk II. Maybe.

Would be nice to have some Stoke defensive coverage. Don't think Begovic is worth the extra .5 over Krul. Wilson is 4.5 and I could upgrade Duff easily to make that move.mi have heard that Wilson is keeping the seat warm for Huth. What do you think?

The fact Bego is nailed on over Wilson is what makes him worth the .5m.

Di Maria, Ramsey, Siggy, Silva, Sterling
    Costa, Naismith ..... (Welbeck)

So I have bego and golks in goal meaning only one playing keeper.

Coluld change that to krul mannone but that would leave me with no stoke def cover.
For 4.5 there is only wilson but he is not nailed on but shoudl play for now.

WC team looks like this atm:

    Bego gilks
    Naylor PVA clyne moreno moore
    Marney ADM fabs sterling siggy
    Kun costa welbeck
    0.1
