The Big Numbers – Gameweek 1-3 – Forwards

The final instalment in our series of Big Numbers articles focussing on Gameweeks 1-3 is rolled out this evening. After assessing the fortunes of defenders and midfielders, we now turn our attentions to the men up front – Chelsea and Southampton’s summer signings come under assessment, as do Everton’s in-form budget striker and the contrasting fortunes of a pair of Manchester-based front men.

I managed to get him last night.

My I suggest that, in your transfers page, you keep a regular eye on "transfers in - round", and "transfers out - round"?

    Wildcard strategy:
Could someone more intelligent than me explain why its a good idea to save a WC for a DGW? Obviously you could mop up the points but what about after that, surely there's more chance of a broken team from that point in having taken such a short term view?
Trying to find reasons to keep my WC and not do this:

    Bego Gilks
    Wilson Betrand Jones Taylor Moore
    Sterling Fab Siggy Mane Jones
    Rooney Costa Welbeck

with 4.2ITB potentially for Rooney > Aguero and Mane > ADM in later weeks

For some reason I want a punt on Mane. Seems like a goal/assist machine

Usually if people use it in a double gameweek they use it after the DGW itself to revamp the team as it'll be stocked up with players from the limited amount of teams that were in involved in the DGW

      1. bigbudgie
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

        I knew I was stupid.
DGWs are place randomly in the calendar or a seasoned FPL pro could tell me when they usually occur. Surely fixture piles usually start around the same time each season?

Not having ever saved my WC for a DGW, I think the strategy should be to prepare for the DGW a few weeks in advance by buying players from the DGW teams and then using he WC afterwards to clear up the mess.

      1. emperikal
        • 13 Years

        Exactly

    3. emperikal
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

Doesn't have to necessarily be for a DGW but if your team is in decent enough shape at the moment it makes sense to save it because its a terribly long season and there's going to be a ton more speed bumps along the way. I can understand wildcarding early in the efforts to raise your TV but that doesn't seem to have been an effective strategy this year with the new pricing system\

Team looks good though. I'd wait on Mane though I love the pic. Have to see how he'll fit into the system and if he'll start right away or be brought up slowly. He was playing in the Austrian league so might take him a bit to get acclimated to the EPL. Also maybe Jones > Moreno with the injury worries and Liverpool's nice run of fixtures

        Cheers

        Current team looks like

        Bego - Gilks

        Cahill-Jones-Chambers-Baird-Moore
        Siggy-Sterling-Fab-Lamela-Rambo
        Rooney Costa 4.4 bench fodder

Pretty strong 3-5-2 you have there. Chambers and Jones stand out to me as options for transfers. Rest looks good

why are you even considering a WC with that team? just some pruning required around the edges, like jones and chambers.

            • 9 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

            Jones is a IMHO
Also tempted to hang on to Chambers, he's one Arsenal injury away from regular football
Pissed off everyone when he came on for KOS the other and got 8 points. They didn't realise it was CS for the player not the team 🙂

    Current team:

    Begovic (Gilks)

Terry - Chester - Hutton - Duff (Chambers)

Fabregas - Ramsey - Sterling - Siggy (Marney)

    Costa - Adebayor - Dzeko

... this after knee-jerking Mata + Rooney -> Costa + Sterling after last GW.
Don't feel happy with my defence and front line though.
Should I activate the WC - yay or nay?

  10. A Defender's Nightmare

Lost at the bottom of last page. A repost it is. 🙂

On my WC. I had Welbeck @ 6.9 so now reluctant to leave him as he's a terrific value. These are my 2 options for Front 8.

    Team A:
    Hazard, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Tadic, Mirallas
    Costa, Welbeck, Balotelli

    Team B:
    Hazard, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Tadic, Zaha
    Costa, Welbeck, kun Aguero

So basically it's Balotelli+Mirallas vs Aguero+Zaha. Option A is strong but worth noting that in that set up I'll have to bench more expensive player every GW. Would you say still it's the better one?

    Cheers in advance. 🙂

      Jeez.

Sorry, but I think that you have got yourself in muddle, here.

I think that your defence must be too weak.

Can I propose instead Mirallas and Naismith, both of whom are very high in my tables?

I've Mirallas in option A. Don't think Naismith can keep this up.

I have Lovren and have come to accept that he might drop. He's underpriced at 5.5 imo and will rise back up once he scores anyways. He's a long-term option in my defense. Those who don't have him should snap him up at 5.4 if he falls.

in hindsight prob moore to ivanovic should have been jones out but that's the risk with early transfers. no harm done though mate. you should be fine

i think this year Siggy and Welbeck allow for a good 8th player rather than a benchwarmer.. by good i mean 5.5 and below instead of a 4.5er. swap Tadic for Zaha and it looks good and frees up 2.1

So did Jovetic to Welbeck last night.. barring injuries(expect Ramsey and Costa to play) no hit required right?

    Krul
    Terry Caulker Chester
    Eriksen Sterling(c) Ramsey Siggy
    Rooney Welbeck Costa

    Elliott Debuchy Albrighton Hutton
    2.1 in the bank

Eriksen to Fabs/Hazard OR Debuchy to Bertrand/Baines(play ahead of Caulker) seem like good punts but a hit seems a bit too much for either

Only two mids worth having are Mirallas and Schneiderlin at the mo.

IF Ramsey/Costa are set to miss just the one week i'll prob swap Albrighton for a 5.5 and below mid. right now i've got Zaha ahead of Schneiderlin in my estimations though.. gonna go have a gander at schneiderlin in the members area now.
There's a nice safe feeling bout owning Fabregas ahead of Eriksen i must say 🙂 .. think i'll wait till GW 6 though for that swap. hopefully eriksen repays my faith over the next 2

At his price he does not seem much of a goal threat. i agree with that. he is a baps magnet even with an assist though.. and he should get plenty of those. that being said i can afford hazard instead. and if i do make a swap it'll prob be for him

As we stagger back from the break is there anything to suggest that Azpil is nailed / Luis is about to get his chance? Could do with freeing up som cash from Ivanovic

Also, why no Dzecko love ATM? CL starting soon, Jovetic has glass legs, never even mind Aguero .........

Looks great, but you have a benching dilemma every week. Downgrade either Welbeck or Tadic and then get Ivanovic for PVA.

      • 9 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

I'm impressed that you managed to squeeze Welbeck in there. I have a similar team but with Naismith the only difference in the front 8. I have a 5.0 keeper and another 5.0 def (now 4.9) so would need to squeeze those areas to find funds for welbeck atm, unless i were to downgrade rooney or tadic.

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years

That said, I think one of Welbeck/Tadic/Siggy will be wasted on the bench and you might find that the value may be better spent in defense instead.

    5. RideMyPony
      • 9 Years

looks great, but you will get a benching problem with welbeck, tadic and siggy. love that you are trying tadic, but there will be no room for him in that team imo. downgrade tadic and upgrade defence

If Mcgregor gets the nod at QPR they rotate great with stoke , although bego ok on his own , didnt trust wilson to keep spot.
Kept a newcastle connection in Janmaat , very attacking Moore has good fixtures soon and nailed
